Chandrahasa is a 1933 Hindi mythological costume drama film directed by Sarvottam Badami. It was the first Hindi film directed by Badami bringing him into prominence, even though he did not know Hindi. It was also one of the first Talkie versions of the film which was remade several times. Produced by Sagar Movietone, it had music composed by S. P. Rane.

A social-reformist costume drama film, written by Tagore in 1887, it was set in the fictional kingdom of Tippera, and involved clashes between a progressive-minded King and a "tradition-bound priest". The film was stated to be commercially successful.

Stealing Heaven is a 1988 film directed by Clive Donner and starring Derek de Lint, Kim Thomson and Denholm Elliott. It is a costume drama based on the French 12th century medieval romance (a true story) of Peter Abelard and Héloïse and on a historical novel by Marion Meade. This was Donner's final theatrical film, before his death on 7 September 2010.

Lamiel is a 1967 French historical drama film. It was directed by Jean Aurel and stars Anna Karina, Michel Bouquet, and Jean-Claude Brialy. The film is based on Stendhal's unfinished last novel, Lamiel. A costume drama set in the 19th century, it centers on the young orphan Lamiel (Karina) as she rises from poverty into high society under the guidance of a doctor (Bouquet), who lives vicariously through her.

Consisting of 20 episodes it was first aired from May 5, 2003 to May 30, 2003 in the peak 8:00 to 9:00 pm weekday slot, and was repeated in 2005 in the late afternoon (18.00-18.30) slot and again in 2009 in the late night (22.00-2300) slot.

Watan (English: Country) is a 1938 Hindustani costume drama film directed by Mehboob Khan. Produced by Sagar Films (Sagar Movietone), the film had story by Mehboob Khan and Wajahat Mirza. The cinematographer, as for most Sagar films was Faredoon Irani. Following the successful music of Manmohan (1936), Sagar Movietone retained Anil Biswas as the in-house music director, scoring music for Watan along with other releases of the time from the studio.

The film, presenting libertine and pagan Lully as a natural ally of the early Enlightenment figure Louis XIV of France in his conflicts with the Catholic establishment, focuses on Lully's personal relationship with the King, as well as his camaraderie with Molière and rivalry with Robert Cambert.

A. C. Tirulokchandar earlier wrote the screenplay for the hit film, Vijayapuri Veeran, an adaptation of The Three Musketeers. He was introduced by actor S.A. Asokan to AVM Saravanan, and became very close to the AVM clan, he made his directorial debut with Veerathirumagan. Former child artist Sachu made her debut as lead actress with this film. While AVM was generally known for producing drama films with contemporary settings, Veerathirumagan differed from them by being an "action oriented costume drama".

Estudios San Miguel (San Miguel Studios) was an Argentine film studio that was active in the 1940s and early 1950s. It flourished during the golden age of Cinema of Argentina, and at its peak was one of the major studios in Buenos Aires. Genres ranged from musical comedy to costume drama and gaucho thriller. Films included La guerra gaucha (The Gaucho War 1942), co-produced with Artistas Argentinos Asociados, and the comedy Juvenilia (1943), both of which won several major awards.

Her newest production is the television series Il Processo, where she played one of the main roles.

Griffith's Birth of a Nation and Buster Keaton's The General being an example of two early American works bus set during the U.S. Civil War. In different eras different subgenres have risen to popularity such as the westerns and sword and sandal films that dominated North American cinema in the 1950s. The costume drama is often separated as a genre of historical dramas.

After that, he decided to become an actor and starred in his first television series, KO One Re-member, in 2016 and officially entered the entertainment industry. On July 14 of the same year, Zhao became a member of the Taiwanese boyband SpeXial and participated in the recording of their 4th album, Boyz on Fire. Henry VIII is a two-part British television serial produced principally by Granada Television for ITV from 12 to 19 October 2003. It chronicles the life of Henry VIII of England from the disintegration of his first marriage to an aging Spanish princess until his death following a stroke in 1547, by which time he had married for the sixth time. Additional production funding was provided by WGBH Boston, Powercorp and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. It stars Ray Winstone in his first role in a costume drama.

Review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes gives the film a score of 90% based on 110 reviews, with an average rating of 7.25/10 and the summary, "A Royal Affair is a lavish and sumptuous costume drama with a juicy story to back it up." Saradindu Bandyopadhyay, a famous writer known also for creating Byomkesh Bakshi, replaced Pal in the story department, writing for films like Nirmala and Vachan in 1938 and Durga in 1939. The screenplay was by Agha Jani Kashmiri, with dialogues and lyrics by J. S. Kashyap.

She won the Critics' Circle Theatre Award and Evening Standard Theatre Award for her performance in the play Suddenly, Last Summer, held in 2004 at the Lyceum Theatre. Hamilton has often worked in the costume drama genre. During the 1990s, she had supporting roles in three Jane Austen adaptations: the 1995 serial Pride and Prejudice, the 1995 film Persuasion, and the 1999 film Mansfield Park. Hamilton won the role of Queen Victoria in the 2001 television production, Victoria & Albert, portraying the monarch in her early years.

Lady J (French: Mademoiselle de Joncquières) is a 2018 French period drama film directed by Emmanuel Mouret and inspired by a story in Denis Diderot's novel Jacques the Fatalist."Indie Sales boards Emmanuel Mouret’s costume drama ‘Mademoiselle de Joncquières’". The film stars Cécile de France as Madame de la Pommeraye, a woman who is spurned by her lover, the Marquis des Arcis (Édouard Baer), and enacts a complex revenge plot with the help of the titular Mademoiselle de Joncquières (Alice Isaaz).

The author of the Poldark books Winston Graham gave permission to use the title as the name of the mine. He launched some of his books at Poldark Mine, including the last Poldark book in 2002, a year before his death. Actress Angharad Rees, who had the leading role of Demelza in the 1970s BBC TV costume drama Poldark was a regular visitor to the mine and gardens up to the time of her death in 2012. There is a memorial to her at Poldark Mine which was dedicated by her son.

In 2013, he was cast in the costume drama Karma Rider as the frail scholar Pak Hok-yee. In 2014, Cheung gained popularity after his appearance on the variety show Walk The Walk, Talk The Talk in which he impersonates Chilam Cheung in his role as Captain Cool in Triumph in the Skies II. In 2015, Cheung starred in the sitcom Come Home Love 2. In 2017, Cheung stars in Legal Mavericks alongside Vincent Wong, Ali Lee, and Sisley Choi. His portrayal of private investigator Kuk Yat-ha earned critical acclaim.

Along with several of his bandmates, he participated in the 2016 costume drama series Men with Sword. On November 4, 2016, he dropped his studies at the National Taiwan University of Arts in order to prepare for his mandatory military service. Lian continued working with the group until December 11, after a press conference for the series High 5 Basketball. On January 25, 2017, he announced on his personal Facebook account that he had requested the termination of his contract with Comic International Productions due to "unclear accounts", and that he intended to leave SpeXial.

Diao Chan is a 1938 Chinese sound film directed by Bu Wancang and produced by Zhang Shankun's Xinhua Film Company. The film is a portrayal of one of the "Four Beauties" of ancient China, in this case the titular Diaochan, from the late Eastern Han Dynasty era. Like Diaochan, the film is also known by the literal translation of her name, the Sable Cicada. The film, a lavish historical costume drama, represented something of a revival of Chinese filmmaking in Shanghai following the occupation of the city by Japanese forces.

In 1997, he also had a cameo in the Spice Girls film Spice World. A year later, Fry starred in David Yates' small independent film The Tichborne Claimant, and in 2001, he played the detective in Robert Altman's period costume drama, Gosford Park. At the time of shooting the film, Garbo was 28, the same age as her character. Queen Christina is a historical costume drama, loosely based on the life of 17th-century Queen Christina of Sweden and still more loosely on Strindberg's history play Kristina. A number of historical characters appear in the film, including Charles X Gustav of Sweden and Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie.

McShera's acting career started after university in 2007, with roles in the soap operas Emmerdale and Doctors and the drama Survivors in 2008. In 2009, she joined the regular cast of BBC One school-based drama series Waterloo Road, playing A-level student Ros McCain for the entirety of the fifth series. Ros' storylines revolved around her trying to fulfil her academic potential and also questioning her sexuality. After the handover of Taiwan to the Republic of China (ROC) in 1945, the ROC Ministry of Foreign Affairs took over the building and converted it into a dormitory. Women's Wear Daily, noting that the series would be broadcast in the same time slot as the very popular costume drama Downton Abbey, suggested James was poised to be the next "Lady Mary," the beautiful and glamorous character central to much of the drama of the earlier series. James's costumes required her to wear a corset, and she described how she almost fainted on one particularly long day on set. On November 12, 2016, producers announced that she had been cast in a single episode role (3.4) for the third season of Outlander.

Kindle's director, Anne Brogan, who was formerly controller of ITV Kids, formed the company with her colleague Melanie Stokes, who was formerly Head of Development at ITV Kids. Kindle's first productions were Harry Potter: Behind the Magic and Harry Potter: The Costume Drama, shown in July 2009 on ITV1. Harry Potter: Behind the Magic was a one-off one hour documentary presented by Ben Shephard.

Najam also called Najam-Ul-Hasain or Najmul Hussain had left Bombay Talkies following his affair and elopement with Devika Rani, had now joined New Theatres Ltd, where he was cast in films like Anath Ashram (1937), Dushman (1939), Kapal Kundala (1939), and Nartaki. The rest of the main cast included Jagdish Sethi, Wasti and Pankaj Mullick in the Hindi version. The story was a sixteenth century period costume drama about a courtesan who with the help of the king tries to avenge her insult against the priest of a temple monastery.

In 1953 in the English village of St Mary Mead, home of Miss Jane Marple, a big Hollywood production company arrives to film a costume drama about Mary, Queen of Scots and Elizabeth I with two famous movie stars, Marina Rudd and Lola Brewster. The two actresses are old rivals. Marina is making a much heralded comeback after a prolonged "illness" and retirement (due to what was really a nervous breakdown when her son was born with severe brain damage). She and her husband, Jason Rudd, who is directing the film, arrive with their entourage.

The TV series Teachers was partly filmed in Clifton, as was teen drama Skins and Being Human. Costume drama The House of Eliott was also largely filmed in Clifton, including at Goldney Hall and Berkeley Square. Aranda completed his costume drama trilogy with Tirant lo Blanc (2006) (The Maidens' Conspiracy), an adaptation of a seminal Catalan chivalry novel, written in the 15th century by Joanot Martorell. The plot follows the adventures of Tirante, a knight from humble origins in the Byzantine Empire, who gains the favor of the ailing Emperor by his triumphs in fighting the incursion into Constantinople by the Turks. Tirante later seduces the royal family's only surviving child, a young, fanciful, and impressionable princess. This is Aranda's most expensive work and was made with a large budget.

Lady Sour (; literally 'Vinegar Wife') is a 2014 Hong Kong costume drama, comedy, romance produced and developed by Hong Kong's Television Broadcasts Limited, starring Myolie Wu, Ron Ng, Him Law, Eliza Sam, and Jade Leung as the main cast. Filming took place from November 2013 to January 2014. The drama was broadcast on Hong Kong's TVB Jade and HD Jade channels between December 1 and December 28, 2014 every Monday through Friday during its 8:30-9:30 pm time slot with a total of 20 episodes. Julia Sawalha (; born 9 September 1968) is an English actress and voice artist known mainly for her role as Saffron Monsoon in the BBC sitcom Absolutely Fabulous. She is also known for portraying Lynda Day, editor of the Junior Gazette, in Press Gang, Lydia Bennet in the 1995 television miniseries of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, and voicing Ginger in Chicken Run. Additionally, she played Dorcas Lane in the BBC's costume drama Lark Rise to Candleford, Carla Borrego in Jonathan Creek, and Jan Ward in the 2014 BBC One mystery Remember Me.

Two Weeks in Another Town is a 1962 American drama film directed by Vincente Minnelli and starring Kirk Douglas, Edward G. Robinson, Cyd Charisse, Claire Trevor, Daliah Lavi, George Hamilton, and Rosanna Schiaffino. It was based on a novel by Irwin Shaw. The film depicts the shooting of a romantic costume drama in Rome by a team of decadent Hollywood stars, during the Hollywood on the Tiber era. It contains several references to The Bad and the Beautiful, a previous successful movie directed by Minnelli, also starring Douglas.

My Fair Princess, also known as Return of the Pearl Princess or Princess Returning Pearl (), is a 1998–1999 television costume drama jointly produced by Yi Ren Communications Co. Written by creator Chiung Yao, the story is set in 18th-century Qing dynasty during the Qianlong Emperor's reign.

Lark Rise to Candleford is a British television costume drama series, adapted by the BBC from Flora Thompson's trilogy of semi-autobiographical novels about the English countryside, published between 1939 and 1943. The first episode aired on 13 January 2008 on BBC One and BBC HD in the UK. In the U.S., the series began airing on select PBS stations in the spring of 2009. A third series began airing in the UK on 10 January 2010. The fourth and final series began on 9 January 2011 on BBC One and BBC One HD, and was filmed during August 2010.

Aherne, "A Proper Job" Cornell decided to take The Barretts of Wimpole Street to the troops in Europe as a touring production with the USO and the Special Services Division. However, the USO and the Division stated that no G.I. would sit for a three-hour costume drama about two middle-aged Victorian poets. They suggested an alternate, some sort of "ribald farce" in case Barretts proved a failure. Cornell prepared Blithe Spirit, but nonetheless insisted upon Barretts, saying that if she was going to entertain the soldiers, she must take them her very best, and her very best was Barretts.

With the company's support, she obtained an Hong Kong identity card through the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme, and began Cantonese acting classes at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. In 2011, Lan starred in 3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy, which became the highest grossing Hong Kong film of the year, with a box office record of HK$41 million. In 2012, Lan starred in the Hunan Satellite TV costume drama Heroes of Sui and Tang Dynasties 1 & 2, which topped viewership numbers. Her 2013 thriller movie Ecstasy Room Escape was nominated for the Chinese American Film Festival Golden Angel Award.

Earlier in her career, Hunter acted in film and television. She had supporting roles in the television series Midsomer Murders (2004), Keen Eddie (2004), Mumbai Calling (2007) and Torchwood (2009). It had already been a success in America and ran at the St James's through most of the remainder of the season, which concluded with a costume drama, Moliere, by Walter Frith. When Alexander took over the St James's he had only eleven years' professional experience in the theatre, but the historians J. P. Wearing and A. E. W. Mason both note that he had already reached a firm and enduring managerial policy.

She also appeared in four episodes of the 2001 series of The Armstrong and Miller Show and one episode of the acclaimed and original entry of the Messiah TV series. In autumn 2007 she appeared with Judi Dench, Imelda Staunton and Francesca Annis in the BBC1 costume drama series Cranford, playing the role of the spinster Miss Augusta Tomkinson, as well as in Wilfred Owen: A Remembrance Tale. Struggling to get support for his work, in 1992 Wong formed his own production company, Jet Tone Films, with Jeff Lau. In need of further backing, Wong accepted a studio's offer that he make a wuxia (ancient martial arts) film based on the popular novel The Legend of the Condor Heroes by Jin Yong. Wong was enthusiastic about the idea, claiming he had long wanted to make a costume drama. He eventually took little from the book other than three characters, and in 1992 began experimenting with several different narrative structures to weave what he called "a very complex tapestry".

The Third Wife () is a 2018 Vietnamese costume drama film written and directed by Ash Mayfair, in her feature debut. Set in the 19th century, it follows a 14-year-old girl who becomes the third wife to a landowner in rural northern Vietnam. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2018, where it won the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) Award. It also won the TVE-Another Look Award at the San Sebastian International Film Festival and the Gold Hugo for New Directors at the Chicago International Film Festival in October 2018.

To mark their fifth anniversary in September 2005, the studio released the fantasy costume drama, A Queendom of Eros, directed by KINGDOM and starring Chihiro Hara, Azusa Ayano, Jun Seto, Miki Komori, Shuri Himesaki and Yuna Takizawa. The work's elaborate sets and props made it one of the most expensive adult videos produced. Moodyz is part of the large AV conglomerate Hokuto Corporation, which distributes Moodyz produced videos through retail sales and via mail order and digital download from its portal DMM.com. The Moodyz company manager and representative is Hitomi Niwa (丹羽ひとみ).

In 1993, Koo signed as a contract artist with TVB (Television Broadcasts Limited). Koo started gaining wide recognition in 1995 with his leading role in a costume drama The Condor Heroes 95, a popular series based on a classic wuxia novel. In 1997, Koo began sporting an extreme tan (for which he is well known for), which apparently enabled him to take on more contemporary roles. In 1999, Koo received TVB's Most Popular Actor Award for Detective Investigation Files IV. In 2000, Koo received TVB's Most Favorite Character Award for At the Threshold of an Era ll.

Griffiths has appeared in many television programmes, including Dr. Finlay and Drop the Dead Donkey and playing Janet in The Smoking Room. In Autumn 2007 she co-starred with Deborah Findlay in the BBC1 costume drama series Cranford playing Miss Caroline Tomkinson. In January 2011 she appeared as a frightened passenger in the BBC1 comedy series Come Fly With Me, which is written by Matt Lucas and David Walliams. In February 2011, she appeared as Pauline in Benidorm, reprising the role in the 2016 & 2018 series and through March–April appeared in the Jeremy Dyson play adaption of Roald Dahl's Twisted Tales.

After Michael Tse's successful and popular portrayal of the undercover cop Laughing Gor in Wong's 2009 crime drama The Academy III: E.U., TVB had notions of creating a fourth installment of The Academy that would potentially continue with the character's story. After several negotiations with the company, Wong decided to drop the idea and instead went to produce a costume drama version of the series. The working title of the drama was changed from "The Turbulence of Jingnan" () to "Hongwu 32". A costume fitting and press conference was held on April 9, 2010 in the TVB studios in Tseung Kwan O with a total of 48 cast members.

When the new AV studio Max-A started up in May 1992, Hasegawa directed the first video on their Samansa label, , starring AV Idol Hitomi Shiraishi. Throughout the 1990s, Hasegawa continued to direct for Alice Japan, VIP and Max-A as well as Shy Plan, Media Station, and VIP's successor Atlas21. Hasegawa had begun directing softcore V-Cinema works as early as September 1996 with for TMC but he completed more than 20 V-Cinema productions in the 2005-2006 period. Also in 2006, Hasegawa directed the historical costume drama set in the Edo period, The Inner Palace: Indecent War, released by Max-A under the DoraMax label in July 2006.

Returning to the United Kingdom in early 1963, Taylor worked on the long-running medical drama Emergency Ward 10. This led to plenty of work in character roles, from Anglia TV's soap opera Weavers Green (where Taylor had a regular part) and several Lew Grade-backed projects, including The Avengers, The Champions and The Troubleshooters. He also appeared in a British TV adaptation of Summer of the Seventeenth Doll (1964). He appeared in a production of Twelve Angry Men on the West End and had a regular role in the TV series Weaver's Green (1966) He was a Scots border chieftain in the BBC's 1968 colour costume drama The Borderers.

The Paradise is a British television costume drama series co-produced by BBC Studios and Masterpiece. The Paradise premiered in the United Kingdom on BBC One on 25 September 2012 and premiered in the United States on PBS on 6 October 2013. The series is an adaptation of Émile Zola's 1883 novel Au Bonheur des Dames that relocates the story to North East England. (Zola's novel itself is a retelling of the story of Aristide Boucicaut, the Bellême- born founder of Le Bon Marché.) A second series was commissioned by BBC One in late October 2012 and was broadcast on 20 October 2013 on BBC One.

The television series is a romantic comedy costume drama, featuring lavish costumes and sets intended to capture the luxury and grandeur of the Tang dynasty, and makes parodies out of other Hong Kong television shows, including dramas and varieties. The show regularly utilizes numerous original poems throughout the series for comedic effect, the poems being a hybrid between classical Chinese compositions and modern rap in terms of both structure and word choice. This dialogue further cemented the series as one of the most memorable and popular TVB series of its era. The drama is set to have 32 episodes, with a definitive beginning and ending to the story.

Kim Dae-woo's The Servant subverted the classic folktale Chunhyangjeon with the premise that the heroine Chunhyang is ambitious instead of virtuous, and that she falls in love with Bang-ja, the servant of Lee Mong-ryong (while Lee, played by Ryoo, is far from heroic). Co- starring Kim Joo-hyuk and Jo Yeo-jeong, the costume drama depicted the Joseon era's sexual mores and class system with sly humor and cynicism. Ensemble comedy Foxy Festival explored unconventional sexual preferences in a light- hearted and non-judgmental manner, and in it Ryoo played a fish sausage ("odeng") hawker with a RealDoll fetish. His most significant film in 2010 was The Unjust.

Nixon's career began in autumn 2007, when she starred as the motherless Sophy Hutton in the BBC One costume drama series Cranford, opposite Dame Judi Dench. In 2008, she had supporting roles in the films Wild Child and Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging. Nixon appeared in Easy Virtue and played one of the leads in Cherrybomb opposite Rupert Grint and Robert Sheehan, before starring in Black Death. In 2011, Nixon played Josie in the Channel 4 TV comedy-drama series Fresh Meat, and starred alongside Michael Sheen, Andrea Riseborough and Iwan Rheon in Resistance, an adaptation of an Owen Sheers novel, which was released in the UK in November 2011.

Titanic is a four-part television costume drama created by producer Nigel Stafford-Clark and written by Julian Fellowes to mark the 100th anniversary of the maritime disaster on 15 April 1912. It sets out to paint a portrait of a whole society, telling the stories of a wide range of characters, both real and imagined, from every social level. Their narratives are developed and gradually interwoven over the first three episodes, each of which ends in a cliffhanger as the ship begins to founder. The fourth and final episode draws all of the different stories together and reveals to the audience who survives.

He entered the group three months in advance to receive sword training and physical training. The shooting began in 2018, in order to present the most perfect shot, he often shoots it over and over again. There is a 360-degree rollover lens in Weihua.

Eventually screened in 1985, Edge of Darkness was another award- winner, and cemented Wearing's reputation. In 1989, he was made Head of Serials at the BBC, the Series and Serials departments now having been separated as they had originally been. In 1993, after Head of Series Peter Cregeen's departure from the Corporation, Wearing was briefly Head of Series & Serials, before his role was reduced to simply overseeing Serials again the following year. In his time as Head of Serials he oversaw the production of a great number of productions, among the most famous being the new era of costume drama literary adaptations such as Middlemarch (1993) and Pride and Prejudice (1995).

Columbia Tristar's head of UK marketing noted that "if there was any territory this film was going to work, it was in the UK." After receiving positive responses at previews, marketing strategies focused on selling it as both a costume drama and as a film attractive to mainstream audiences. Attention was also paid to marketing Sense and Sensibility internationally. Because the entire production cycle had consistently emphasised it as being "bigger" than a normal British period drama literary film, distributors avoided labelling it as "just another English period film." Instead, marketing materials featured quotations from populist newspapers such as the Daily Mail, which compared the film to Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994).

Shiraishi also appeared in a number of softcore V-Cinema productions and some mainstream films. She had a role in the April 1996 film Lady Ninja: Reflections of Darkness, a female ninja (kunoichi) costume drama, and a month later appeared in the Rashomon drama In a Thicket directed by pink film director Hisayasu Satō known as one of the "Four Heavenly Kings of Pink". V-Cinema films include Tokyo Decameron which was released in Japan in July 1996 and in an English subtitled version by Asian Pulp Cinema in November 2001, and the erotic bondage thriller The Bondage Master which was issued in Japan in April 1996 and in an English subtitled version from Asian Pulp Cinema in 2000.

Kitty is a 1945 film, a costume drama set in London during the 1780s, directed by Mitchell Leisen, based on the novel of the same name by Rosamond Marshall (published in 1943), with a screenplay by Karl Tunberg. It stars Paulette Goddard, Ray Milland, Constance Collier, Patric Knowles, Reginald Owen, and Cecil Kellaway as the English painter Thomas Gainsborough. In a broad interpretation of George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, the film tells the rags-to- riches story of a beautiful young cockney guttersnipe who is given a complete makeover by an impoverished aristocrat (Milland) and his aunt (Collier) in hopes of arranging her marriage to a peer, thereby repairing their fortunes and their social status.

" Gerard Gilbert of The Arts Desk dubbed Strike Back as "thin and lightweight next to [Armitage's other gig] Spooks", and although "not unexciting", Gilbert did not find the series interesting. Andrea Mullaney of The Scotsman was positive about the casting, and the changes in storyline from the original novel, though the series was aimed "squarely at the blokey viewer who'd rather watch paint dry than a costume drama." Whilst also reviewing Luther and Lewis, John Lloyd of The Financial Times called it "fine for tension," "good on sub-Bond dialogue" and that the story lines make Spooks look true to life. Lloyd also called Richard Armitage "one of the best action men on television.

Pattinson had supporting roles in the German made-for-television film Ring of the Nibelungs in 2004, and in director Mira Nair's costume drama Vanity Fair, although his scenes in the latter were deleted and only appear on the DVD version. In May 2005, he was scheduled to appear in the UK premiere of The Woman Before at the Royal Court Theatre, but was fired shortly before the opening night and was replaced by Tom Riley. Later that year he played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. For this role he was named that year's "British Star of Tomorrow" by The Times and had more than once been hailed as "the next Jude Law".

Dozens more appearances in film and on television followed, often as a character actress, such as her role as a society reporter in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004).

The film, now lost, showed stylistic influences from the Italian neo-realists and was the first Korean film to employ synchronous sound. Yangsan Province (1955). With the success of this first film, Kim was able to direct his second feature, the historical costume drama Yangsan Province (also 1955), again using primitive equipment obtained from the U.S.I.S. Although Kim claimed to have based the film on a traditional song he learned from his mother, no exact source for the story has been found. It is suspected that the director made up the story himself, modeling it on traditional stories such as Chunhyangjeon, Lee Kyu- hwan's remake of which had recently become a major success, stimulating a rebirth in Korean cinema.

After the huge success of Beyond the Realm of Conscience, the filming of a similarly set costume drama comedy was announced. Can't Buy Me Love was featured in the TVB 2010 sales presentation clip, which was released shortly after the TVB Awards Presentation, and became a highly anticipated drama of 2010 in Hong Kong. The drama became popularly compared to Beyond the Realm of Conscience due to its extremely similar lavish costumes and sets, cast members, and close time period (both set during the Tang dynasty of China). They were also compared to since Can't Buy Me Love also had links with the Tang imperial palace, though it had far more scenes out of the palace.

Conway in Rupert Goold's National Theatre revival of J. B. Priestley's Time and the Conways. She has appeared in television productions in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, appearing in series such as Edward the Seventh (1975) as Lillie Langtry, a role she reprised in Lillie (1978); Madame Bovary (1975); and Parnell and the Englishwoman (1991), in which she played Kitty O'Shea; as well as the miniseries Reckless (1998) and its 2000 sequel. Annis co-starred with Michael Gambon and Dame Judi Dench as Lady Ludlow (an aristocrat opposed to the education of the lower classes) in the BBC1 costume- drama series Cranford (2007). More recently, Annis played a leading role in the ITV drama Home Fires.

She is best known nationally for playing Dr. Erica Matthews in the ITV television drama series Peak Practice between 1996 and 1998. Other major roles include Gunvor, the love interest of the main character, in Prince of Jutland, who is tragically murdered when pregnant, Clarissa Harlowe in the BBC costume drama mini series Clarissa (1991), Alex Wilton in the ITV series Boon and Claudia Seabrook MP in the BBC drama Our Friends in the North (1996). The actress was cast as a prospective wife for one of the title characters in the one-off The Fast Show spinoff Ted & Ralph. Wickham also appeared in an episode of Midsomer Murders entitled "Last Year's Model".

Spy in Vanity Fair, 1908 Aynesworth began the 1900s playing Lieutenant B. F. Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly, David Belasco's play, which was five years away from becoming much better known in Giacomo Puccini's operatic version. In 1903 he made one of his few appearances in a costume drama, playing Sir John Melville in the 18th-century comedy The Clandestine Marriage."'The Clandestine Marriage' at the Haymarket Theatre", The Manchester Guardian, 18 March 1903, p. 6 From 1903 to 1907 he established a fruitful stage partnership with Marie Tempest in a series of long-running plays, mostly at the Comedy Theatre, but with one excursion to New York to play The Freedom of Suzanne at the Empire Theatre.

She credits the greatcoat with helping to fashion the character's masculinity, and argues that Jack's costume creates its own discourse "through which costume drama and Post Heritage cinema's escapism flows". During Jack's initial appearances in Doctor Who, Russell T Davies held a "half-hearted" theory that Jack would dress specific to the time period he was in, to contrast the Doctor who dresses the same wherever and whenever he goes. He is introduced wearing a greatcoat in World War II-set episodes, but changes to modern day jeans in contemporary episode "Boom Town" and black leather in futuristic episodes. Davies admits that this was a "bit of a lame idea" and decided that Jack "never looked better than when he was in his World War II outfit".

Using a Korean crew for the scenes set in Seoul, and a Japanese crew for the shooting in Japan, the film starred Lee Jung-jae as the protagonist (he was also the lead actor of An Affair).
