Jones joined The Australian Ballet in 2002. She was named to coryphée in 2005, and principal artist in 2005. During her time at the company, she has danced Princess Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty, the title role in Cinderella and the title role in The Firebird. Born in Cuckfield, Sussex, McMillan passed all his examinations for the Royal Academy of Dance, and at 13 received a scholarship to Saddler's Wells. At 17, he entered the Saddler's Wells Ballet Company, which became The Royal Ballet. He danced at Saddler's Wells and Covent Garden, where the principal was Dame Ninette de Valois. He was a coryphée with the Ballet from 1955 to 1966, having been the first boy given a scholarship to attend The Saddler's Wells College at Barons Court.

François Alu (born 1993 in Fussy, Cher, France) is a French "Premier Danseur" (first soloist), of the Paris Opera Ballet. He entered the Paris Opera Ballet School in 2004, and the Paris Opera Ballet in 2010. At his first promotion competition, he was promoted to Coryphée, dancing as a free variation the act II solo of Solor, from La Bayadère by Rudolf Nureyev. The next year, he was promoted to "Sujet" (soloist), dancing as a free variation the act III solo of Solor, from La Bayadère by Rudolf Nureyev.

She decided to start ballet when she saw her first ballet on TV (Swan Lake). Then she had the opportunity to start ballet as a hobby, and her teacher, Mr. Bertin, persuaded her to audition for the Opéra Ballet School which she joined when she was 10. She was a shy but graceful pupil and was destined to be at the top of the company. Agnes entered the Paris Opera Ballet company in 1987 at the age of 16, became Coryphée in 1988, Sujet in 1989 and première danseuse in 1993.

Mathieu Ganio (born 16 March 1984) is a French danseur étoile of the Paris Opera Ballet. Mathieu Ganio was born in Marseille, France, the son of Ballet National de Marseille principal dancers Dominique Khalfouni and Denys Ganio. He began dance lessons at the age of seven and studied at the École Nationale Supérieure de Danse de Marseille from 1992 to 1999, before completing his training at the Paris Opera Ballet School. In 2001 he joined the corps de ballet of the Paris Opera Ballet and won promotion to the rank of coryphée in 2002 and sujet in 2003.

Nijinsky was introduced to dance by his parents, who were senior dancers with the travelling Setov opera company, and his early childhood was spent touring with the company. His older brother Stanislav and younger sister Bronislava "Bronia" Nijinska also became dancers; Bronia also became a choreographer, working closely with him for much of his career. At age nine Nijinsky was accepted at the Imperial Ballet School (now known as the Vaganova Academy of Ballet since 1957) in St. Petersburg, the pre-eminent ballet school in the world. In 1907, he graduated and became a member of the Imperial Ballet, starting at the rank of coryphée instead of in the corps de ballet, already taking starring roles.

He then came to the attention of conductors such as Jean-Claude Malgoire, Christophe Rousset, Jonathan Darlington, and Marc Minkowski. Under Minkowski he has sung the title role in Alessandro Stradella's oratorio San Giovanni Battista, performed in Handel's Dixit Dominus and Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea as well as singing the role of Coryphée in Minkowski's 1999 recording of Gluck's Armide. Amongst the music festivals where he has appeared are the Aix-en-Provence Festival, Festival de Beaune, Festival d'Ile de France (Paris), Festival d’Art Sacré de la Ville de Paris, and the Wiener Festwochen (Vienna). He also appeared on the international stage in productions in New York City, Vienna, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Paris as well as in concerts in Europe, Morocco, India, and Australia.

The term étoile had been used to designate the best soloists of the Paris Opera Ballet since the 19th century, but it was only in 1940 that ballet master Serge Lifar decided to codify the title at the top of the company's hierarchy. Unlike all lower ranks in the Ballet (quadrille, coryphée, sujet, premier danseur), promotion to étoile does not depend on success in the annual competitive examinations.
