It serves commuters heading to Manchester, particularly those from the wider Cheshire area, and gives access to Manchester Airport from the national motorway network.
The road M52 passes through Berdsk connecting Novosibirsk with Altai Krai, Altai Republic and Mongolia. Thanks to it, 15–20 minutes are enough to reach Akademgorodok and about 1 hour to main part of Novosibirsk. The daily commuter traffic to workplaces in the latter two places is significant. Inside of the town there is a network of municipal and private buses routes, including intercity routes to Novosibirsk and Iskitim.
Flagstaff Road is an arterial road in the southern suburbs of Adelaide in South Australia, Australia. It is one of the roads that carries commuter traffic between the city on the coastal plain and residential suburbs in the Adelaide Hills. The northern end branches off of South Road at Darlington at a traffic light intersection with Marion Road opposite. Most of the road is in the suburb of Flagstaff Hill.
Services on the Merseburg–Schafstädt railway were numbered 588 in the timetable issued in 1992. In the end, trains only consisted of a class 143 electric locomotive and a double-deck driving trailer. They were used only for commuter traffic from Monday to Friday in the morning and the afternoon. The journey time for the six train pairs a day between Merseburg and Halle- Nietleben was 22 minutes.
Interstate 684 (I-684) is a north–south Interstate Highway in the state of New York in the United States. There is also a short portion in Connecticut with no junctions. The highway connects I-84 with I-287 and the Hutchinson River Parkway, primarily serving commuter traffic to and from the northern suburbs of the New York metropolitan area. Most of the route is in northern Westchester County.
In 1950, Porsche KG, which had re-established itself after the war in Gmünd, Austria, returned to Stuttgart by establishing its headquarters in Zuffenhausen. As a result, commuter traffic volumes rose at the station. The residents of Neuwirtshaus preferred to use buses after Stuttgarter Straßenbahnen (the Stuttgart tram and bus company) added a bus stop to its route network in the district at Nordseestraße. On 10 June 2001, Porscheplatz was added to the station's name.
The Oslo Tramway's Skøyen Line was extended to Skøyen Station in 1903. The suburban Lilleaker Line extension was completed in 1919. Skøyen and Sjølyst have since the 1980s developed into a major office site Commuter traffic on the Drammen Line increased substantially and Parliament decided in 1911 to modernize the line from Oslo West Station to Sandvika Station. The entire line was elevated so that roads could pass naturally below the tracks.
Right-of-way acquisition began for the freeway but was stopped in 1971 due to lack of funds. The freeway was officially cancelled in 1975 when NJDOT did not include it in the five-year highway program. Despite the cancellation of the proposed freeway, several large corporations in Morris County pushed for the freeway to be built as it would reduce commuter traffic on Route 53 and US 202 in the area.
Weitzer railmotor of the ACsEV End of 1910 the company owned 41 petrol–electric Weitzer railmotors and 37 adequate trailers, furthermore 38 steam engines, 41 conventional passenger cars, 30 luggage cars, 30 luggage cars with a conductors' compartment, 9 mailcars, and 2069 freightcars. The railmotors allowed quite a dense frequency of trains for local commuter traffic as well as for longer distances. They ran as ordinary trains, as express trains, and as mail trains.
The bridge connects at its southern terminus with Interstate 295 and the Suitland Parkway and thus provides access to downtown from those routes as well as from South Capitol Street and roads connecting to it. As a result, the bridge carries commuter traffic from Prince George's County, Maryland, and from Southern Maryland. The bridge is part of the National Highway System, as are South Capitol Street north of the bridge and the Suitland Parkway.
The West Trenton Railroad Bridge across the Delaware River. The West Trenton Station is at the terminus of SEPTA's West Trenton Line. This commuter rail facility mainly serves commuter traffic to and from Philadelphia. NJ Transit has proposed a new West Trenton Line of its own, that would stretch for from the West Trenton Station to a connection with the Raritan Valley Line at Bridgewater Township, and from there to Newark Penn Station in Newark.
The A11 motorway () is an incomplete motorway in Croatia, long. It connects the Jakuševec interchange of the Zagreb bypass, to the south of Zagreb, to Velika Gorica and onwards to Sisak, but currently reaches only the Lekenik exit, as of the planned route, are completed. The motorway is planned as a north-south transportation corridor for commuter traffic between the cities. The A11 motorway tender procedures and construction works were initiated in 2006.
With the creation of this line, ABQ Ride began to give Rapid Ride routes color designations (Red for 766, Blue for 790). On August 16, 2008, the Blue Line was extended to Cottonwood Mall and weekday frequency changed to 20 minutes. When the new Northwest Transit Center opened on September 2, 2008, all buses serving Cottonwood Mall moved there, although a stop at Cottonwood Mall on 7 Bar Loop still remains for mall commuter traffic.
To maximize the operational efficiency, the lanes will have tolls at varying rates throughout the day to optimize traffic flow, and access to and from the lanes will only be allowed west of 136th Avenue, east of U.S. 441/State Road 7, and through a direct connection to the median of Florida's Turnpike, removing long distance commuter traffic from the general purpose lanes. FDOT will retain control of the toll revenue and toll rates.
In the 1960s, the Rhaetian Railway was exposed to steadily rising passenger numbers and therefore increasing demands on its rolling stock. In particular, passenger expectations of rolling stock had altered. These changes led the Rhaetian Railway to carry out detailed studies as to what new rolling stock should be acquired. The studies revealed, amongst other things, that there was a need for a contemporary vehicle concept to serve commuter traffic around Chur.
South Brent is next to the Devon Expressway which connects Exeter to the north-east and Plymouth to the west. Brent railway station was opened on the South Devon Railway on 15 June 1848. It served as the junction for the branch line to Kingsbridge from 19 December 1893. The station closed in 1964, though for some years there has been a movement to reopen it in order to reduce commuter traffic on the roads.
Wildlife, including beavers, deer, turtles, and different species of birds, can be observed in its natural environment. Although the park is surrounded by routes used by commuter traffic, smaller species can still find habitats large enough to survive. Shelby Farms park is home to a bison herd on of pasture land. Former Shelby County Mayor Bill Morris was instrumental, along with park superintendent Tom Hill, in introducing the bison, which now number about 45.
On the Zillertalbahn, there are not only regional trains but also regular steam- hauled special trains, which represent a great attraction, especially for tourists. The Achensee Railway is a pure tourist railway and has no significance for commuter traffic. The roughly long rack railway leads, via two stops, to the Seespitz railway station on the Achensee, and is operated by steam locomotives. In Seespitz, passengers can transfer directly to one of the Achensee ships.
Charing Cross before it was built over with offices with the Southern Railway (SR) initials retained. Inner London suburban services were fully electrified by 1929 and worked by electric multiple units of varying lengths according to demand, which had the advantage of rapid acceleration and braking. The railway then began a successful programme to electrify its most heavily used main lines, building up a substantial commuter traffic from towns such as Guildford, Brighton and Eastbourne.
In the Netherlands the bicycle highway is not defined in the RVV (). However, there is a guideline for developing bicycle highways. The Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management describes the bicycle highway as a long cycle path without crossings, on which cyclists can travel long distances. By building bicycle highways, the government hopes, among other things, to promote the use of bicycles for commuter traffic and thus prevent traffic jams.
To encourage commuter traffic the B&A; offered reduced-fare commutation tickets. The introduction of frequent service to Boston led a population boom in Newton. Three new stations on the extension opened as they were completed: Waban on August 16, 1886; Woodland soon afterwards; and Eliot in December 1888. Between 1905–1907 the Boston and Albany undertook a project to remove grade crossings along the branch, following a similar project a decade earlier on the main line through Newton.

The branch was closed in 1884, but reopened in 1888 by state commission order. In 1890 a short leg allowing Dedham-Islington travel for the Old Colony Railroad's Wrentham Branch was opened; trains using this route skipped Dedham Junction station. By 1898, the New Haven Railroad had acquired the Old Colony, NY≠, and the Boston & Providence.
Old station building at Weiskirchen Initially, four pairs of trains operated daily. After the connection of the Dreieich Railway, there were only two pairs of through trains between Offenbach and Dieburg. The first trains were steam hauled; after the Second World War trains were increasingly hauled by diesel locomotives. The importance of the connection lay in the growing commuter traffic from the district of Offenbach, especially for those working in the leather goods industry in Offenbach.
14WE is an electric multiple unit (EMU) produced by Newag in Nowy Sącz, Poland. It is a heavily modified version of the PKP class EN57 EMU, of early-1960s vintage. The trainset consists of driver car (type 410B), motor car (type 309B) and driver car (410B), with four passenger doors per car (two on each side). The 14WE is designed for suburban commuter traffic, with the carrying capacity of 192 seats and (nominally) 255 standing places.
Unlike those sections further south, which are used as bypass road of the city of Rijeka, therefore carrying substantial suburban and commuter traffic, the tolled section carries almost exclusively transit traffic. The Rupa toll plaza, located on the section reported 240,975 kuna (€ 32,400) collected during a single, peak season, weekend in July. Even though motorway traffic volume and thus toll revenue, decreased slightly elsewhere in the country, this particular tolled section reported virtually no change in income by 2010.
Currey Road Bridge, officially known as Mahadev Palav Marg, is a stone bridge built in 1915 that connects the neighbourhoods of Parel and Lower Parel in Mumbai, India. The road and bridge see heavy commuter traffic, as they connect Lalbaug and Parel with NM Joshi Marg. Three sections of the bridge wall had to be removed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) in 2014 to make room construction of pillars for Line 1 of the Mumbai Monorail.

Kentucky Route 2903 is a former state highway that stretched from KY 418 (Athens-Boonesboro Road) to US 60 (Winchester Road) east of Man o' War Boulevard. It was also named the Walnut Hill-Chilesburg Road. Most of the route was a narrow two-lane rural route with no shoulders and featured numerous curves. With increased suburban development and commuter traffic, especially those wishing to bypass the Hamburg Pavilion shopping complex, the road was literally cut in half.
The line is planned travel in a long tunnel under the airport and allow direct access from long-distance trains, as well as free the rail capacity taken up by long-distance traffic in the current main corridor (the Helsinki–Riihimäki railway) for the increasing local commuter traffic. The line would then continue northward to Tampere as either an upgraded Riihimäki–Tampere railway or a brand new parallel line; and eastward to Kouvola using the planned new Itärata railway.
The recommissioning of the line was initially slow and it only regained a certain importance, this time touristic, with the opening of the Oberdorf–Weissenstein chairlift in 1952, the terminal station of which is located in the Oberdorf station area. The further significance of the line at this time was limited to its function as a feeder to the regional centres of Solothurn and Moutier. As a result, operations have focused on commuter traffic since the 1960s.
The RABDe 8/16 are a consequential further development of the RABDe 12/12 multiple units used by the SBB-CFF-FFS. They were, like the RABDe 12/12, designed for quick acceleration in commuter traffic. But in contrast to the RABDe 12/12, they didn't reach this goal with a lot of motor power, but rather by having a lightweight aluminium construction. Four ordered prototypes were built, but already retired from service in 1997 and later scrapped.

The ALe 582 project was developed in the mid-eighties in order to replace old rolling stock used for commuter traffic and medium-distance (regional and local services) on secondary lines of Sicily and southern Italy. It is a strict derivative of the ALe 724 Class, which was introduced in 1983 for commuter services around Naples, Milan and Turin.
It was part of master planner Robert Moses' extensive road-building campaign and was built as a sister road to the Southern State Parkway. In recent years its design has quickly become dated due to an increase in commuter traffic using the roadway, and numerous improvements have been made (including the widening from four to six lanes in Central Nassau west to the Nassau-Queens line where it becomes the Grand Central) or are still on paper.
Sm4 on the Kerava-Lahti railway line The Sm4 is designed for longer-distance trips than typical metro-like local services. The Sm4 units have largely replaced the older Sm1 and Sm2 units on commuter services from Helsinki to Riihimäki and Lahti. The units are also used in commuter traffic on the Tampere–Riihimäki and Riihimäki–Kouvola routes. The Sm4s were also used for the shorter, frequently-stopping services because of the lack of more suitable low floor trains.
Three days later, the first scheduled trains traversed the tunnel. According to the operator, its completion shortened the journey time through the mountain to roughly 18 minutes, improving the route's attractiveness for commuter traffic, as well as better facilitating tourist access to and from the Engadin. In the first year alone, roughly 280,000 vehicles were recorded as having used the new tunnel. By 2019, the RhB were reporting that an average of just above 480,000 vehicles were traversing the Vereina Tunnel per year.
To the east of Chiba, electrification reached Chōshi in 1974, and Limited Express Shiosai has been operated from the underground Tokyo Station since 1975. Freight services from Chōshi ceased in 1986, just before the privatization of JNR, and regular passenger trains stopped using the Ryōgoku terminal platforms in 1988. JR East started a new airport train, the Narita Express in 1991. Rapid urbanization around Chiba Station made this section important for commuter traffic, for the city of Chiba, and for Greater Tokyo.
West Malling station, situated on the outskirts of the town, provides a regular service, operated by Southeastern Trains, up to Victoria, and down to Maidstone and Ashford. Journeys into London take around one hour. Direct services to London Bridge and Cannon Street were withdrawn in December 2009. With the recent development of Kings Hill, the station was renamed "West Malling for Kings Hill", and in 2007 road access was provided from the West Malling bypass, taking commuter traffic away from the High Street.
In 1876 the Ulster Railway became part of the Great Northern Railway (GNR), making Great Victoria Street the terminus for a network that extended south to Dublin and west to Derry and Bundoran. Express passenger traffic to and from Dublin Connolly station was always Great Victoria Street's most prestigious traffic. The GNR upgraded its expresses over the decades and in 1947 introduced the Enterprise non-stop service between the two capitals. As Belfast suburbs grew, commuter traffic also grew in volume.
The park has had a bad reputation of being a place for prostitutes, most of whom are not Spanish and imported for the sex trade. However, Madrid's chief prosecutor has denied the police authority to enforce a more modest dress code, despite complaints about sex workers wearing little clothing. Due to the park's size, there are still problems but the volume is a lot less with different enforcement measures in place and the rerouting of commuter traffic outside of the park.
Separate proposals exist to extend the Helsinki Metro to the airport, and to move long-distance services from the current main North-South corridor to a new railway between Pasila and Kerava, passing through the airport. This new route, known as Lentorata, would travel in a long tunnel under the airport and allow direct access from long-distance trains, as well as free the rail capacity taken up by long-distance traffic in the current main corridor for the increasing local commuter traffic.
It is now officially chartered for this purpose: from the junction of I-515 in Las Vegas to the Canadian border, I-15 forms part of the CANAMEX Corridor, a High Priority Corridor, as a result of the North American Free Trade Agreement. Since the construction of I-15, California, Nevada, and Utah have consistently ranked in the fastest-growing areas of the United States. As a result, the route of I-15 has substantially increased in population and commuter traffic.
The FL lines, formerly Lazio regional railways (, also Ferrovie Laziali) consist of 8 commuter rail lines operated by Trenitalia, converging on the city of Rome. Lines FL1, FL2 and FL3, particularly in areas closer to Rome, function like a rapid transit service, integrated with the Rome Metro and surface transportation. The other lines (numbered from FL4 to FL8) are served by traditional regional trains, and used almost exclusively for commuter traffic. All eight lines are considered regional trains by Trenitalia.
The Rhaetian Railway therefore decided, at the end of October 1968, to order four modern three car commuter trains. These could be used not only for Chur's commuter traffic, but also for special sports trains. In 1971, the three manufacturers of the power cars, FFA (railcar bodies), SIG (bogies), and SAAS (electrical equipment), delivered the first four power cars (numbers 511–514) to the Rhaetian Railway. These vehicles were Switzerland's first series production units with continuous electronic power control (phase control thyristors).
Each Sm1 unit consists of two cars: the Sm1 is the motored car of the multiple unit, while the other car, the driving trailer, is a part of the Eio class. There is a driver's cabin at either end of the unit, which enables the train to be driven in both directions without turning it around. This is a major advantage compared to locomotive-pulled trains in commuter traffic. The two-car unit has 191 seats combined, including fourteen foldable seats.
In order to accommodate increasingly heavy commercial and commuter traffic to and from the Quonset Business Park, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation constructed the Quonset Freeway as an upgraded Route 403. The relocation of the route began in 2000 and was constructed in two phases; Phase 1, a freeway from Quonset to Davisville, opened in June 2006. Phase 2 of the relocation project, which connected the freeway with Route 4, was completed one year ahead of schedule in December 2008.
Some local politicians and organisations have been campaigning to have the remaining repaired and a new station constructed at Portishead. A campaign group advocates reopening the station and the short stretch of unopened line. The coastal town largely serves as a dormitory town for Bristol workers, and the main route into the city, a single carriageway, the A369, is often unable to cope with the volume of commuter traffic. The 2006–2011 Joint Local Transport Plan reserved £1 million for the project.
In addition, numerous skyscrapers were built in downtown Ottawa increasing the amount of commuter traffic towards central Ottawa from both sides of the river. The controversial decision was then made to demolish a long line of houses in order to make room for the new arterial boulevard, thus making commuter travel towards Ottawa much easier. At the same time the Portage Bridge was built at the southern end of Maisonneuve towards Wellington Street and the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway in Ottawa.
Along with the floods, the shutting down of the mill and eventual construction of highways for automobile traffic would mean the end of Rockdale as a crossroads. The highways built all bypassed the Rockdale area. The Rockdale area was annexed by the city of Dubuque, and is now entirely within the city. While some local commuter traffic passes through the area due to Kelly Lane being nearby, most traffic uses U.S. Highway 151 and 61 and completely bypasses the area.
Location of the station in the city The station is the only long distance station in Jena, since the abandonment of long distance passenger operations on the Mid-German Connection and its associated stops at Jena West and Jena- Göschwitz, which was the only place in Jena where it was previously possible to transfer between long-distance trains. Jena Paradies station is used on an average day by about 3,500 passengers, second only to Jena West station, which has more commuter traffic.
A second track from Boston to Roxbury was added in 1839 and extended to Readville in 1845. Commuter traffic on the B&P; – which had numbered just 320 daily passengers from the eight stations north of Readville in 1849 – rapidly expanded thereafter. The railroad cut sharply into the profits of the private turnpike; it became a free public road (Washington Street) south of Dedham in 1843, and north of Dedham in 1857. A third track from Boston to Readville was added in 1873-74.
The street is considered by traffic engineers as an important artery to carry commuter traffic before and after work hours. To this end, a reversible lane was built in the mid-20th century along much of its length to allocate lanes. As well, Mount Pleasant Road was extended south to Jarvis and an intersection to the Gardiner Expressway was constructed. The City of Toronto initiated a redevelopment of the street in the early 2000s that widened sidewalks, added cycling lanes and removed the reversible lane.
After repairs to war damage the line recovered its importance for handling commuter traffic to Frankfurt. On 23 May 1954 a regular interval half-hourly timetable was introduced, initially hauled by class 78 steam locomotives and class V 80 and later V 100 diesel locomotives. The extension to Friedberg was downgraded to a single-track branch line due to war damage and a loss of profitability. Following the completion of electrification on 26 September 1970 services were usually operated by trains hauled by class 141 electric locomotives.
Already numerous wealthy citizens of Frankfurt had established their residence (or second residence) there, leading to steadily growing commuter traffic. Soon through trains began running from Frankfurt to Kronberg. On 1 January 1914, the company was taken over by the Prussian government and the line became part of the Prussian state railways. German Federal Railways established a regular interval timetable in 1954, with services every 30 minutes on the line (as well as on the Homburg line), long before the opening of the Rhine-Main S-Bahn.
Public transportation is very limited, so the principal roads leading into the city are very congested with commuter traffic. No freeways served Brentwood directly until February 2008, when the John Marsh Heritage Highway (also known as the California State Route 4 Bypass or Bypass Road, now California State Route 4) was built to connect the western side of Brentwood directly with Antioch. State Route 4 passes by the western edge of Brentwood. The freeway portion of SR 4 ends just south of the Balfour Road exit.
Cartsdyke railway station serves part of the town of Greenock, Scotland. The station is on the Inverclyde Line, west of . The station is situated between Bawhirley Road and McDougall Street and it serves passengers going to and from Gourock and Glasgow. It is the nearest station to Cappielow, home of Greenock Morton F.C.. Aside from the daily commuter traffic, some Saturday afternoons consequently are the busiest period of time for this station, which is manned for a few hours a day but is otherwise unstaffed.
On December 1, 2008, the bridge carrying NY 270 over Tonawanda Creek (also the Erie Canal) was closed to traffic to allow construction to begin on a replacement bridge over the creek. The existing bridge was built in 1941 and considered to be structurally deficient. During construction, commuter traffic was detoured onto Tonawanda Creek and Bear Ridge Roads while trucks were instructed to follow NY 263, NY 78, and NY 93 around the closed bridge. The new bridge was opened to traffic in July 2009.
Stockholm–Roslagens Järnvägar (SRJ) was a private railway company in Sweden 1885–1951, running a vast network of narrow gauge railways in Roslagen north of Stockholm. The company was taken over by Swedish State Railways in 1951, formally combined into Swedish State Railways in 1959. Parts of the SRJ network closest to Stockholm is now used for commuter traffic and called Roslagsbanan, owned by Storstockholms lokaltrafik. The line between Hargshamn and Dannemora has been converted to standard gauge and made part of the national, government owned network.
As a result, traffic on the Brooker Highway is expected to increase. When announcing the construction of the Brighton Transport Hub, Premier Paul Lennon stated that when complete the Southern Railway Line - south of the Intermodal facility - would no longer be used on a permanent basis. He spoke of the possibility of the railway line opening up to commuter traffic. In 2008, The Australian Institute of Architects and the Planning Institute identified the South Line as an ideal route for an express O-Bahn Style Bus.
In November 2007 the CEPA plan was put into effect and the service to Apopa was restarted with two return trips each morning and evening aimed at commuter traffic. The fare is on 10¢ US for the 12 km trip, and to ensure safety four police officers ride each train (service suspended from 2013). The plan is to reopen the whole route to the provincial capital of Sonsonate in stages over the next 12 months with the next stage to Nejapa due to reopen in March.
NM 502 was formally continuous with NM 501, which continues from Los Alamos west to another junction with NM 4 in the foothills of the Jemez Mountains. The route is paved for its entire length, in contrast to some other state highways in northern New Mexico. It is 4-lane road from Pojoaque to the junction with NM 30, then adds a fifth lane west-bound to accommodate the heavy commuter traffic going from Pojoaque, Española, etc., to LANL in the morning, and back in the evening.
Roads in areas with urban consolidation policies are often overburdened with increased intercity traffic in addition to the preexisting suburban commuter traffic, and this problem is not always easily solved with transit-oriented development. Drainage systems are severely impacted by higher populations, potentially leading to increased flooding and pollutant runoff. Open spaces in high-density urban areas often conflict with urban consolidation policies; residents of high-density areas require a significantly higher amount of open space, but this would limit development of consolidation-oriented housing and transportation.
Four new narrow gauge locomotives were built for the line by Neilson Reid in Glasgow. Upon rebuilding to narrow gauge, the section between Cork and Blackrock was converted to double track - unique on an Irish narrow gauge railway. The CB≺ had a busy commuter traffic (to and from Cork). The southern extension from Passage West to Monkstown opened on 1 August 1902 and the final section to Crosshaven opened in 1904; the extension included a tunnel at Passage and large lattice viaduct near Crosshaven.
Eight strikers were arrested by the Ontario Provincial Police. Like with many electric street and interurban railways, the system's swan song occurred during the Second World War, which stimulated freight and commuter traffic and reversed much of the industrial slump caused by the Great Depression. Industrial production had begun to gradually consolidate, and factories became larger and more suburban, forcing workers to commute to them. In Cornwall, the then-secret mustard gas plant on Wallrich Avenue led to the final extension of the system's lines.
Though it was not the first bus services initiated in Nigeria, Charlotte Obasa, daughter of Richard Blaize had earlier ran a non-profit oriented service after the Lagos tram closed. Zarpas service created the nucleus of a regular public transportation in Lagos. In 1933, more companies bidded to operate bus services from Lagos Island to Ebute Metta. By 1940, commuter traffic was on the increase, Zarpas' inability to source for new vehicles as a result of the war led to over-crowded buses especially during peak hours.
By 2018, glass and steel platform barriers were installed at all 43 LRT stations to prevent people from falling onto the tracks. Unlike the ones in overground MRT stations, the LRT structures will not have sliding doors but fixed openings. The barriers have been erected at Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Panjang LRT stations in anticipation of higher commuter traffic with the opening of Downtown Line 2. This was followed by the rest of the stations on the Bukit Panjang and Sengkang-Punggol LRT lines in 2018.
The freeway was designed to solve a longstanding traffic issue in Eugene, the inadequacy of West 11th Avenue (a neighborhood arterial) to handle long-haul and commuter traffic. Many commuters, as well as state transportation officials, strongly desired to build the freeway. Plans for the freeway were completed in the mid-1970s, and the state of Oregon had begun buying up property for the right-of-way. A ramp stub currently exists on I-105, where the interchange with the Roosevelt Freeway would have been.
Because of increasing road construction the trolleys became difficult to operate in an environment increasingly dominated by personal automobiles and taxis. The year that US 99 was completed commuter traffic between Tacoma and Seattle via the electric Interurban fell off nearly 40%, signaling the end of the trolley era. The last streetcars in Tacoma ran on June 11, 1938. The day was marked by a citywide public holiday, with excursions over part of the route and a "Gay Nineties" dance at the Winthrop Hotel.
Station at night Euskirchen station is a major railway junction, and its lines have had to cope with a high volume of commuter traffic with heavy overcrowding of trains. In order to handle traffic a new central railway station signal box was built for the equivalent of about €2.9 million. This was put into operation on 12 December 1973, after three years of planning and construction. Since the 90s, large central bus station, which was built by the city, has been located directly on the station forecourt.
This new tunnel, known as Stockholm City Line (Citybanan; lit. ‘the city line’), is intended for the exclusive use of the Pendeltåg system, and will split commuter traffic onto separate tracks from long-distance trains while travelling through the city. This would ease the rail systems' congestion problems, and permit Stockholm Transport to schedule more frequent service. It will also allow more frequent service for other trains, increasing the capacity for large parts of the Swedish rail network since many trains go to and from Stockholm.
The railway opened in 1918 to serve a paper mill and was opened to passengers and general goods traffic in 1926. Apart from local commuter traffic the railway also served tourist groups as a feeder for the , the first cable car in Austria which also opened in 1926. At the beginning of the 1960s large scale investment was needed, so in 1963 passenger traffic was stopped and replaced by post office buses. The goods traffic, in particular to the paper mill in Hirschwang, continued until 1982.
Lahell is located on RV23 between Dagslett and Gullaug Lahell is a village in the municipality of Lier in Buskerud, Norway. Located in the south of the municipality of Lier, southwest of Spikkestad in Røyken, it is neighbouring to the urban area Drammen which bordering to Lier. Norwegian National Road 23 (Rv23) carries heavy volume of transport and commuter traffic through the neighborhood connecting it with the municipalities of Lier, Røyken, Hurum and Frogn. Large parts of the population settled in Lahelle in connection with explosives producer Dyno Industrier ASA (now Dyno Nobel).
With the increase of internal commuter traffic demand, an LRT spur was built north of Hung Shui Kiu Stop that opened in 1993, with four stops serving the initial housing areas of the town. The area was further developed in the next few years and the line was extended by two stops: Chestwood and Tin Shui Wai Terminus in 1995 (Tin Shui Wai Terminus was renamed Tin Wing after the opening of West Rail Line). Two LRT routes were established, route 720(now 751) to Yau Oi and route 721(now 761P) to Yuen Long.
In 1968 commuter services were dieselised and operated by the DJ class, or sometimes the DI class and DSC class. The Port Chalmers services lasted 11 more years and were cancelled in late 1979, followed by the Mosgiel services in December 1982. Between 1908 and 1914, the line to Mosgiel was double-tracked because of the commuter traffic, but it has been converted back to single track since the end of commuter services. On 10 February 2002, the Southerner was withdrawn as it was claimed to no longer be economic to operate.
New bike lanes were installed in 2010, and removed again in 2012 On May 25, 2009, Toronto City Council voted 28–16 to remove the reversible centre commuter traffic lane and improve the streetscape by widening sidewalks, planting trees, installing heritage plaques, and implementing bicycle lanes. In 2011, after the election of new mayor Rob Ford, a new Council voted to remove the bicycle lanes and reinstate the previous configuration. The Council opted for a new bicycle route along the parallel Sherbourne Street."City hall moves to tear up Jarvis Street bike lanes".
The Rail Loop will be long. The extension is estimated to cost about €956 million and is planned to be completed in the 2020s. The Kerava–Porvoo rail line (fi; sv), which is still operated from Kerava to Kilpilahti oil refinery as a freight line and from Olli to Porvoo as a museum railway (fi:Porvoon museorautatie), is currently not in use for passenger traffic, however there are proposals to reinstate commuter traffic up to Nikkilä using this line. A branch from Petas on the Ring Rail Line to Klaukkala is also proposed.
This company initiated consistent services from early morning to late evening and introduced Gleisradio (track radio), a special passenger information system using GPS. Some of the rail services operate via Husum, Schleswig and Rendsburg to Kiel. Since 2011 services on the line have been operated by DB Regio Schleswig-Holstein (formerly called Regionalbahn Schleswig-Holstein), a subsidiary of DB Regio. The line is particularly important for tourism and is an important access to the North Sea resort of Bad St. Peter-Ording, but is also important for student and commuter traffic.
The line was opened on 1 July 1889 by the Società per le Ferrovie Napoletane;Francesco Capezza: Napoli: avanti con la SEPSA. In: ″I Treni″ Nr. 95 (July–August 1989), p. 14. the route follows the coast for about 20 km from the main terminal in the populous downtown area of Montesanto to Torregaveta via the stations of Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Fuorigrotta, Mostra, Bagnoli, Pozzuoli, Arco Felice, Baia and Fusaro. In 1927 the railway, because of the increasing commuter traffic, was electrified with a 1,2 kV DC overhead line.
Service on what is now the Northeast Corridor dates to the 1830s, with trains originating and terminating at the PRR's terminal at Exchange Place in Jersey City, which was the terminus of the PRR's network for most of the 19th century. Penn Station opened in 1910, but was originally designed for long distance passenger trains. As a result, steam-hauled commuter traffic continued to use the older Jersey City station. However, after the overhead catenary was completed between Trenton and Penn Station, it was possible to run trains of electric multiple units direct to Manhattan.
Guildford - Horsham auto-train in 1957 Opening in 1865 as "Cranley", its name was changed in 1867 to "Cranleigh" at the request of the Postmaster General as imperfectly addressed letters to "Cranley" were often mistaken for "Crawley" and vice versa. A passing loop and second platform were installed at the station in 1880. Cranleigh was the busiest station on the line with regular commuter traffic to and from London via Guildford. It also handled regular custom for nearby Cranleigh School, and Southern Railway Class V 4-4-0 "Schools Class" express passenger locomotive no.
On 26 October 1986 as a result of the Transport Act 1985, bus services were deregulated and restrictions which prevented regular bus services through the Mersey Tunnels were abolished. As a result, many buses which formerly stopped at the Birkenhead Woodside Bus/Ferry terminal were extended into Liverpool. This was another blow to the Mersey Ferries and the ferry service had to be re-focussed away from commuter traffic, which had declined, to tourist needs. From 1990 a commuter shuttle has operated Monday-Friday peak period with an hourly River Explorer Cruise.
Attempts by government planners to revive the project from the 1920s through the 1940s did not succeed. The Pennsylvania Tunnel and Terminal Railroad tunnels through New York Penn Station, generally used only for passenger trains, were used briefly for freight during World War I to relieve congestion at the barge transport docks, but today's passenger and commuter traffic frequencies are at capacity and preclude freight movements. The Warsaw − Terespol Railway (, ) is a long railway in Poland, opened in 1866 between Warsaw and Terespol, as a part of the railway between Warsaw and Moscow. Today the line is designated by the Polish State Railways (PKP) as Rail Line 2. Along with Line 3 it forms Rail Line E20 which is the Polish part of the Pan-European Corridor II, linking Berlin with Moscow. In addition to international passenger and freight traffic the line also carries significant regional commuter traffic in the Masovian Voivodeship between Warsaw and Siedlce.
Breland Station () is a railway station on the Sørlandet Line situated in the village of Breland in Lindesnes municipality in Agder county, Norway. Located from Oslo Central Station, it is served by a single long-distance train in each direction, operated by Go-Ahead Norge, to serve commuter traffic to and from the town of Kristiansand. The station has two platforms and a passing loop, although the main platform is only long. The station was opened on 17 December 1943 as part of the segment of the Sørlandet Line between Kristiansand and Sira.
Cranleigh railway station was opened in 1865 as "Cranley" as part of the Cranleigh Line, its name was changed in 1867 to "Cranleigh" at the request of the Postmaster General as badly addressed letters to "Cranley" were often mistaken for "Crawley" and vice versa. Cranleigh was the busiest station on the line with regular commuter traffic to and from London via Guildford. Cranleigh had a substantial goods yard equipped with a large loading gantry. Inward freight consisted mainly of coal which was required, in particular, by the local gasworks, whilst goods outward were mainly timber.
65 1033 on a line in the Thuringian Forest The 65.10s were stationed all over East Germany, except in the DR's northern locomotive depots (Bahnbetriebswerke or Bw), and in the 1960s were preferred as the motive power for commuter traffic with double- decker trains as well as on push-pull services. For the latter, engines 65 1009; 1015; 1017; 1025; 1026; 1034; 1058; 1063 and 1081 were fitted with push- pull equipment. The picture changed with the widespread appearance of the DR Class 118 diesels. The 65.10 was also used for goods train duties.
Approximately of railroads stop at six rail stations. Currently, there is no express train service between Sitakunda and Chittagong, though intercity expresses (Sylhet–Chittagong, Chandpur–Chittagong, and Dhaka–Chittagong) stop at Sitakunda station and carry a small share of the commuter traffic load. By 2003, there were a total of of paved roads in the upazila, along with of mud roads, as well as five ferry- gauts or river docks for the use of barge-type ferryboats. The traditional bullock carts are now rarely seen in the upazila.
From the 1920s London was surrounded by a number of large freight Marshalling yards, where long-distance freight trains were brought and re-organised into new trains for onward transmission to their destinations. Three of these yards, at Feltham, Norwood and Hither Green, were operated by the Southern Railway. The requirement for a fast freight transfer locomotive between these yards, and across London to other railway yards, provided a challenge for Richard Maunsell. The electrified suburban lines were busy with commuter traffic which took priority over freight workings, and the London network abounded with junctions and signal stops.
A wooden station similar to those at Lynn and East Boston was soon constructed near Norman Street, with bells imported from Spanish churches. The two-story station had three pairs of columns mimicking a Greek temple, a common style for the earliest stations in the northeast United States. Within days of opening, the line was already seeing commuter traffic from Salem, and it has been a heavily used commuter stop since. With the railroad receiving more traffic than expected, a branch line from Salem to Marblehead opened on December 10, 1839, replacing a stagecoach connection from Marblehead station on the mainline.
Smith Lands is an island platformed METRORail light rail station in Houston, Texas, United States. The station was opened on January 1, 2004 and is operated by the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas (METRO). The station is located south of the Texas Medical Center at the intersection of Greenbriar Drive and Colonnade Drive; Old Spanish Trail crosses Greenbriar Drive approximately one block south of the station. Smith Lands Station feeds commuter traffic into the Texas Medical Center area, and services the adjacent Smith Lands commuter parking facility as well as several nearby apartment and condominium complexes.
In 1935, the 4.1200s essentially provide commuter services at the head of push-pull trains composed of five to nine cars, up to 420 tons gross. They are assigned in part to depots of , Mitry, Beaumont ... They are found between Paris on the one hand and Ermont, Creil and Pontoise on the other. In addition to the commuter traffic, 4.1200's also take charge of the freight service between Persian-Beaumont and Luzarches with reversal at Montsoult. The beginning of the end began in 1969 and the last two trains to have been powered by 2-141.
The former Bundesstraße runs through the village, which is now Bielefelder Straße; this now runs through to the northerly-lying village of Hövelhof. The B68 has since been replaced by the north–south A33, which can be accessed at the Paderborn-Sennelager junction. Sennelager train station is served by a regular train service operated by Veolia Transport-owned NordWestBahn that runs between the Paderborn main station and Bielefeld. The service operates on an hourly basis, although train times are different on Monday to Friday mornings to allow a higher number of services to run to allow for the considerable commuter traffic.
Jamaica is a major hub station of the Long Island Rail Road and is located in Jamaica, Queens, New York City. With weekday ridership exceeding 200,000 passengers, it is the largest transit hub on Long Island, the fourth-busiest rail station in North America, and the second-busiest station that exclusively serves commuter traffic. It is the third-busiest rail hub in the New York area, behind Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal. Over 1,000 trains pass through each day, the forth-most in the New York area behind Penn Station, Grand Central Terminal and Secaucus Junction.
Even before Marin Supervisors approved the Marincello plan in November 1965, legal red tape started to slowly encompass the project. In June 1965, Frouge was sued for misappropriation and false representation of a proposed street entrance to Marincello that trespassed upon private property of existing homeowners. This entrance was off Wolfback Ridge Road (from the Spencer Avenue exit), and was very important to the value of the city since it allowed easy access to Highway 101 and the Golden Gate Bridge from Marincello. Obviously, this small residential street that served fewer than ten houses would be deluged with commuter traffic.
The Woodleigh MRT station which was constructed close to the western end of former Malay and Christian sections along the Upper Serangoon Road, was completed and operational in 2003 but remained closed due to low commuter traffic in the vicinity. The Woodleigh MRT Station was opened eight years later in 19 June 2011. In late 2011, the Ministry of National Development (MND), developed a blueprint for a new housing estate with HDB flats and private housing on several parts of the former cemetery. Works began in 2012, with the first batch of built-to-order HDB flats expected to be ready in 2018.
Auckland is the country's largest radio market. Surveys of 3000 people are conducted twice a year to garner the listener habits of more than 1.2 million people who live in Auckland's urban centres. Due in part to high levels of peak hour commuter traffic congestion, 74.6 percent listen to the radio on a weekly basis. Newstalk ZB has maintained a long-running first place in the ratings under successive breakfast hosts Paul Holmes and Mike Hosking, with a 13.4 percent station share and a weekly cumulative audience of 178 thousand listeners in the latest Q2-14 survey for August to September 2014.
On 23 November 2008, DB Netz put in operation an electronic interlocking bases in Coesfeld. The electronic interlocking currently controls traffic on the Münster–Enschede line, including the branch to Coesfeld. The line speed on the Münster Zentrum Nord–Burgsteinfurt section was increased to 100 km/h from 80 km/h or 90 km/h. As the use of the trains has been on the rise in recent years, which is attributed to commuter traffic to the university located in Steinfurt and the attractiveness of the modernisation of the line, services are approaching the limits of their capacity.
Until then, Haslemere was just a standard wayside station, but it became steadily busier as commuter traffic from the surrounding countryside grew. There are now four trains an hour to London Waterloo station and three to Portsmouth The adjoining bridge (Foster's Bridge) over Lower Street was originally built as a two-track brick arch, but was widened later with a metal girder section. Since June 2008, a new footbridge with lifts provides disabled access to platforms 2 and 3. In December 2016, the station received a new decked car park, which added significant parking space at the station.
Due to heavy commuter traffic, I-66 features a variety of high- occupancy vehicle (HOV) restrictions. Between US 15 in Haymarket, Virginia and the Capital Beltway, the left lane on eastbound I-66 is reserved for vehicles with two or more occupants (HOV-2 traffic) from 5:30 to 9:30 a.m. on weekdays, and the left lane on westbound I-66 is reserved for HOV-2 traffic from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m on weekdays. Between the Beltway and the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge, the eastbound (inbound) roadway is a HOT road from 5:30 to 9:30 a.m.
The Jubilee line's first section opened in 1932, when the Metropolitan Railway built a branch from its main line at Wembley Park to Stanmore. The line, as with many others in the northwest London area, was designed to absorb commuter traffic from the new and rapidly expanding suburbs. The line presented the Metropolitan with a problem. The suburban traffic had been so successful that, by the early 1930s, the lines into Baker Street were becoming overloaded, a problem which was exacerbated by the post-war flight from the City of London to the West End of London.
The line first reached Exmouth from Exeter in 1861. In the first five days 10,000 people travelled on the line and property prices increased overnight. By the 1880s commuter traffic to Exeter was considerable. In 1903 a link to Budleigh Salterton was opened the line going eastward over a viaduct which went from Exeter Road to Park Road where it entered a cutting continuing onto Littleham Cross where there was also a station (now a private residence), and from there to Budleigh Salterton, there turning north to rejoin the main London and South Western Railway line.
The design also included a two-level road in front of the terminal to separate arrival and departure traffic and a federally owned limited access highway connecting the terminal to the Capital Beltway (I-495) about to the east. (Eventually, the highway system grew to include a parallel toll road to handle commuter traffic and an extension to connect to I-66). The access road had a wide median strip to allow the construction of a passenger rail line, which will be in the form of an extension of the Washington Metro's Silver Line and is expected to be completed in 2021.
This allows a 2+3 seating configuration in the commuter trains without a too cramped seating. The Sm5 series is planned to replace the two oldest electric multiple unit series in the Helsinki commuter traffic, the Sm1 and Sm2. The Sm5 are also used for the airport rail service, the Ring Rail Line connecting the Helsinki-Vantaa airport to the rail network, operated since July 2015. Before the beginning of service of the Ring Rail Line, HSL has started to repaint the trains to a distinctive purple, to further set the Helsinki commuter trains apart from the long-haul ones.
Tolls vary by distance driven in the lanes and current traffic congestion. State Route 201, known locally as the "21st South Freeway" or the "201", is a freeway that heads westward from the southern I-80/I-15 junction, known as the "Spaghetti Bowl", along the border of Salt Lake City and West Valley City. This is a largely congested route that serves much of the west side commuter traffic. As it dips southward into Magna, it is downgraded to an expressway, although it is eventually planned to be upgraded to a freeway as traffic from Tooele County increases.
The Lagos Urban Rail Network (LURN) is a network of urban rail-based systems covering seven major corridors of high commuter traffic demand within and beyond the metropolitan Lagos extending to border areas with States like Ogun and Oyo. The Urban Rail Network consists of seven railway lines planned along priority and high commuter demand corridors within the Lagos metropolis and farther. The seven lines link the major population and activity centers in the state, as well as taking advantage, where possible, of existing transport corridors. The network is fully integrated with planned and existing water transport and BRT routes.
It was not only important for tourists, but also for student and commuter traffic. The ruined track in Schlottwitz after the 2002 flood As early as 1897, during the floods in the Eastern Ore Mountains of 1927 as well as in 1954, 1957, 1958 and 1966, serious flood damage occurred along the line, but this was by no means as great as the 2002 floods. Between 12 and 14 August 2002 enormous masses of water were discharged above the crest of the Eastern Ore Mountains. In Zinnwald-Georgenfeld, 406 mm of rain fell in this time, almost half of the annual average precipitation.
Grant McConachie Way is the primary east-west artery leading to the main airport terminal, while a significant amount of commuter traffic from Vancouver to Richmond crosses Sea Island north-south via Russ Baker Way. Sea Island is connected to Vancouver to the north via the Arthur Laing Bridge, and to Richmond via the No. 2 Road Bridge, Dinsmore Bridge, Moray Bridge and the Sea Island Bridge. Sea Island is also served by three stations on the Canada Line, part of the SkyTrain rapid transit network, which connects the airport to Downtown Vancouver and Downtown Richmond.
The Flemish Government wishes to improve access to the city of Antwerp as well as to the port, to relieve traffic congestion on the Antwerp Ring Road and to reduce "rat running" commuter traffic in the larger urban area. The Oosterweel Link is one element, the largest by cost, of a general Antwerp Masterplan for transport. The Masterplan consists of sixteen infrastructure projects for roads, waterways and inland shipping, public transport, docks and solutions for pedestrians and cyclists. These Masterplan projects are intended to improve quality of life, traffic safety and mobility throughout the urban area, the port and surrounding towns and districts.
During this period, Lambert Field was ranked as the eighth-busiest U.S. airport by flights (not by total passengers), largely due to TWA's hub operations, Southwest Airlines' growing traffic, and commuter traffic to smaller cities in the region. Congestion caused delays during peak hours and was exacerbated when bad weather reduced the number of usable runways from three to one. To cope, Lambert officials briefly redesignated the taxiway immediately north of runway 12L–30R as runway 13–31 and used it for commuter and general aviation traffic. Traffic projections made in the 1980s and 1990s predicted yet more growth, however: enough to strain the airport and the national air traffic system.
On June 3, 1850, the B&P; opened a second branch to Dedham – this one from Tollgate via West Roxbury. Commuter traffic on the B&P; – which had numbered just 320 daily passengers from the eight stations north of Readville in 1849 – was rapidly expanding. The railroad cut sharply into the profits of the private turnpike; it became a free public road south of Dedham in 1843, and north of Dedham in 1857. Although the station and surrounding village retained the name "Tollgate" for some time, by the 1870s they were called Forest Hills after the Forest Hills Cemetery, which was founded nearby in 1848.
H1387 To cope with the increase in commuter traffic, the station was rebuilt in 1935, and Station Approach became the main shopping area, including a Post Office, petrol station, two mini-supermarkets and numerous small shops. It also contains a public house called The New Inn. During the Second World War an anti-aircraft gun battery was locally based on Hayes Common, and the soldiers of the 1st Canadian Division who manned it were barracked in local homes. Grandfields Nursery on West Common Road was hit by a V-2 rocket in the late afternoon of 9 February 1945, killing four people, including three members of the Grandfield family.
The cutting is a geological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) listed by English Nature.English Nature site with details of Roade cutting Roade railway station was situated at the southern end of the village and the cutting, but closed in 1964. The four lines split at the north end of the cutting, with the two 'slow' lines forming the slower Northampton loop via and , and the other two 'fast' lines heading directly north via . There was a campaign in the 1990s to have the station re- opened for commuter traffic to London, Milton Keynes and Northampton but there are no current plans to do so.
St Philip's railway station was a small terminus station in Bristol built by the Midland Railway to relieve pressure on the main station at Bristol Temple Meads, which it shared with the Great Western Railway. The station had a single platform and was used principally by the local services between Bristol and Bath Green Park, via Mangotsfield. St Philip's was created by the Midland in part of its extensive goods yard in Bristol and opened in 1870, the company having opened the line from Mangotsfield into Bath the previous year. The station was sited close to the Old Market shopping area and also attracted commuter traffic.
This cost tends to increase over time because the regional councils have steadily expanded the number of services. The low profitability of the TER system is primarily due to the way that the services are used by the travelling public, with commuter traffic in the morning and evening but significant under-utilisation during the rest of the day. In addition, passenger numbers are not particularly high; the trains have an average ridership of only about 66 travellers per train. TER trains consist of single or multiple-unit diesel, electric or dual-mode rail cars, as well as some Corail carriages previously used on intercity routes.
Throughout the 1960s and well into the Amtrak era, the number of train passengers declined to such a trickle that in cities in which rail stations did not serve commuter traffic, most were allowed to physically decline to a point where many were closed and some demolished. Indianapolis's Union Station almost suffered that fate. By the late 1970s, vagrants and vandals had taken over much of the facility and numerous police and fire runs were made to the cavernous building. Local business and political leaders began looking for some way to preserve Union Station and transform it into a vital part of the city again.

The Veterans Expressway was built to accommodate the increasing commuter traffic in the Tampa-St. Petersburg metropolitan area, with the Suncoast Parkway opening in 2001, extending from near the northern terminus of the Veterans Expressway to U.S. Route 98, with a possible northern extension to U.S. Route 19/U.
By 1900, parts of the line had been rebuilt for two-track operations. Between Hartenstein and Aue the old single-track line was abandoned completely and replaced by a new straightened realignment. The second track was dismantled in 1946 for reparations to the Soviet Union as a result of World War II. In 1946, the Soviet Wismut company started uranium mining in the Ore Mountain and the line quickly achieved a prominent role for the removal of milled uranium ores and in carrying commuter traffic to the newly established mine shafts. The line was a single-track until 1948, when the second track was restored.
The Network Rail Business Plan (2007) says the heaviest traffic flows are on the section through Newbury, from where there is large commuter traffic to London. The main pinch-point is between Reading West and Southcote Junction where the route is shared with trains to and from Basingstoke and south-coast ports. It was forecast in the report that demand for journeys towards London can be met up to 2016 by increased service levels; three trains each hour will be needed to the west of England. By 2026 seating demand was forecast to be in excess of capacity from as far west as Westbury, and by as much as 14%.
On 25 August 1885, the first section of the standard gauge line was opened from Ettlingen West station to Erbprinz and this was followed on 15 July 1887 by the opening of the remaining section to the current Ettlingen Stadt station. The management of this line was transferred to the Grand Duchy of Baden State Railways, which began operating 17 daily passenger trains in each direction. The timetable included both shuttle trains running to Ettlingen West station and through trains running from Ettlingen to Karlsruhe. In addition to connecting Ettlingen to the railway network, the line served the growing commuter traffic between Karlsruhe and Ettlingen.
After the WMR was acquired, most of NZR's long-distance trains used the WMR's Thorndon station as their Wellington terminus. The Wairarapa Mail was the only long-distance train to run out of NZR's Lambton Quay station, which primarily served commuter traffic from the Hutt Valley. Between the Hutt Valley and the Wairarapa, the train had to travel over the Rimutaka Incline over the Rimutaka Range, and at its terminus in Woodville, its carriages were attached to a slow mixed train from Dannevirke that continued through the Manawatu Gorge to terminate in Palmerston North. Passengers could also connect with the northbound Napier Express in Woodville.
The concept for Nebuta Museum Wa Rasse was part of the "Basic Plan for the Rejuvenation of the Aomori Station area" in 2004. The plan was devised to keep tourism and businesses present in central Aomori after the 2010 opening of the Tōhoku Shinkansen and Shin-Aomori Station that would supplant the Tōhoku Main Line and Aomori Station, leading to a potential shift in commuter traffic away from the city's central district. The plan called for a public cultural facility near Aomori Station that focused on the Aomori Nebuta Matsuri summer festival that takes place annually on the waterfront of Aomori Bay. The name was decided on in 2009.
In December 1948, construction was announced on the piece of the Northern State between Plainview Road and Deer Park Avenue, with a proposed extension through Commack to the Sagtikos State Parkway and a spur road to Sunken Meadow State Park. The new contract was announced at a total of $1,372,538 (1948 USD) with a slated completion date of December 31, 1949. In April 1949, it was announced that the first piece of the Northern State Parkway extension would open to commuter traffic on April 11, 1949. The section started in 1947, extending the road from Union Avenue to Plainview Road in the Woodbury area.
The Stockade line (later known as the Northfield railway line), running from Dry Creek through to Stockade railway station, was first opened in 1857. Cavan station was probably opened along this line in 1914, and was located at the corner of Port Wakefield Road and Goldsborough Road. The station was named after the suburb of Cavan, a namesake of a local hotel first licensed in 1855, which itself was named after Cavan in County Cavan, Republic of Ireland. Cavan station was closed to commuter traffic on 29 May 1987, but some cattle trains still used the stock ramp sidings near Cavan and Pooraka stations until the mid 1990s.
The consequent increase of commuter traffic volume, overall increase of the motorway transit traffic and plans for construction of a Sava River port in Rugvica warranted construction of the additional interchanges. The A3 section of Zagreb bypass is currently the busiest section of the Croatian motorway network, with annual average daily traffic (AADT) volume exceeding 40,000 vehicles, leading to congestion of the six-lane bypass at peak hours, especially during the summer, when tourist traffic adds to the congestion. The mainline toll plazas at Bobovica and Ivanja Reka can both become bottlenecks at such times. The alternative to the bypass is going through the city via Ljubljanska, Zagrebačka and Slavonska avenues.
Velika Gorica jug interchange The A11 motorway is an incomplete north–south motorway in Croatia, spanning D30 and D31 state roads south of Velika Gorica. The designed motorway route is of regional importance as it is planned to gradually take over traffic from state road network in the area, especially the D30 which carries a significant commuter traffic volume between Zagreb, Velika Gorica and Sisak. As of January 2016, of the route are open to traffic, connecting the D31 and the D30 roads at Velika Gorica and Poljana Lekenička exits respectively. The D30 and the D31 have a shared intersection in Velika Gorica itself, providing an alternative route to the motorway section.
Map of the plans for the Cross-Harbor Rail Tunnel The nearby Cross- Harbor Rail Tunnel is being planned to connect northeastern New Jersey and Long Island, with portals in Brooklyn and in Jersey City, New Jersey. The tunnel is being planned as a result of passenger and commuter traffic frequencies being at capacity and precluding freight movements. As early as the 1920s, this tunnel had been planned to cross the entire New York Harbor rather than just the Narrows. As a precursor to the planned project, which could cost up to $11 billion to build, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) compiled a Tier 1 Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) in November 2014.
At the same time, in order to cope with the increasing commuter traffic, tracks were built connecting the Berlin Stadtbahn with the new Spandau West suburban station west of the Havel, which was opened in 1910. In 1911 the Spandau suburban line was completed, branching off the connection between the Hamburg line and the Stadtbahn at Heerstraße station and passing through Rennbahn (opened in 1909) and Pichelsberg. With the relocation of the Stadtbahn link between Heerstraße and Charlottenburg in 1928 to the southwest to make room for the new Exhibition Ground separate tracks were built for long-distance and suburban services between Heerstraße and the Stadtbahn. From August 1928, the electrified S-Bahn services were extended to Spandau.
While there were talks to construct a proposed automobile and rail tunnel under Santiago Peak to connect Interstate 15 in Corona with Interstate 5 and SR 55 in Orange County to reduce commuter traffic on the crowded 91 freeway, this concept has been shelved indefinitely. In 2002, the city government considered an initiative to secede from Riverside County and form an autonomous Corona County because the city government and some residents were dissatisfied with how services were handled in nearby areas. The effort was also considered by areas in other cities in the western part of the county as far south as Murrieta. Whether nearby cities such as Norco would have been included in the new county are unknown.
Highway 16 was redesignated to follow Stony Plain Road, 170 Street, and Yellowhead Trail through Edmonton. By 1988, Highway 16X was twinned and transitioned to being the preferred western entrance into Edmonton, while the Stony Plain Road section of Highway 16 was more focused on commuter traffic. In 1990, in conjunction with Highway 16 assuming the Trans- Canada Highway route shield, Highway 16X also assumed the shield, an exception to the general practice in Alberta where suffixed routes are signed only with a standard Alberta highway shield. For consistency, the main business and commuter route was renumbered to Highway 16A in 1997 and renamed as the Parkland Highway while the main tourist route became Highway 16.
Like the Sm1, each Sm2 unit consists of two cars: the Sm2 is the motored car of the multiple unit, while the other car, the driving trailer, is a part of the Eioc class. The units are numbered from 6051 to 6100 for the Sm2 motored car and 6251 to 6300 for the Eioc driving trailer. The train can be driven from both ends, which is a major advantage compared to locomotive-pulled trains in commuter traffic. Sm2's can be coupled together with Sm1's forming trains of at most six units (12 cars), but the length of the commuter train platforms limits the maximum length to five in commercial traffic.
The routing was somewhat of a surprise to residents, who had expected the new bypass to pass east of the city. The previous route had been carrying 5,000 vehicles per day. The bypass opened on November 21, 1962. The previous segment of two-lane highway to the east, which had been carrying 5,000 vehicles per day prior to the opening of the expressway, was renamed Highway 2A and now carries commuter traffic over the Blindman River between Blackfalds and Red Deer. In northern Alberta, 1966 saw work begin on initial grading for Highway 2 in the vicinity of Peace River. The section from Hondo to Slave Lake was completed and opened to traffic on October 18, 1966.
In the mid-1980s, GO Transit first proposed reintroducing passenger service for commuters through North Toronto station in the form of a ‘Midtown’ line allowing commuter traffic to run between the existing Kipling and Agincourt stations without travelling through the city centre. A new transit plan announced by Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty in 2007 included a proposal to institute a Midtown corridor, and this was repeated by Metrolinx in their regional transportation plan, The Big Move. In addition, it has been suggested that the station could be used for some Via Rail and Ontario Northland trains in order to relieve congestion at Union Station, or as a branch of a future city-airport rail link.
Gilbert would later incorporate glazed terra cotta details into his design for the Woolworth Building, which was completed in 1913. The line became very active with intercity train service, and remains presently as part of the Northeast Corridor between Boston, Massachusetts and Washington, D.C. The line failed to attract local commuter traffic, however, particularly once the New York City Subway with its five-cent fare was extended to much of the area beginning in 1920, and the local stations along the route became uneconomical to maintain. New Haven trains stopped serving Westchester Avenue and other local stations in 1931, and all the stations were finally abandoned when the New York, Westchester and Boston ceased operations in 1937.
These waves of light illustrate the "ebb and flow" commuter traffic and allow the interaction of passengers in transit with the art piece. The four artists – Alvin Tan, Melvin Chee, Jackson Tan and William Chan – decided to make use of the skylight such that the artwork becomes a key feature of the station, instead of creating a mural on the station wall. Initially, it was planned to hang a chandelier made up silhouettes of human figures representing how "People illuminates Life", but was considered by the Art-in-Transit panel as "too literal". Inspired by the station's proximity to the Marina Bay Reservoir and Kallang Basin, the artists decided on using the water droplets for the artwork.
Given the opportunity for accelerating services provided by the opening of the Greenisland Loop Lines and the availability of the new powerful Class W 2-6-0 locomotives, a new express service known as the "North Atlantic Express" was introduced between Portrush on the north coast of County Antrim and Belfast. The "North Atlantic Express" began operation on 1 June 1934 and was intended to exploit the market in prestigious long-distance commuter traffic. A set of three luxurious new coaches with large picture windows, including a buffet car, was built for the service. Initially, 80 minutes was allowed for the journey with a stop of one minute at Ballymena but this was progressively reduced to 73 minutes by 1938.
The Main North Line railway travels northwards via Kaikoura to Picton and is served by the Coastal Pacific passenger train, while the Main South Line heads to Invercargill via Dunedin and was used by the Southerner until its cancellation in 2002. The most famous train to depart Christchurch is the TranzAlpine, which travels along the Main South Line to Rolleston and then turns onto the Midland Line, passes through the Southern Alps via the Otira Tunnel, and terminates in Greymouth on the West Coast. This trip is often regarded as one of the ten great train journeys in the world for the amazing scenery through which it passes. The TranzAlpine service is primarily a tourist service and carries no significant commuter traffic.
A class 65.10 locomotive in service of Leunawerke Like the DB Class 65 built for the Deutsche Bundesbahn in West Germany, the DR Class 65.10 was intended by the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) in East Germany for commuter traffic on suburban railways. The DR procured a total of 88 examples of this class, and 7 more went to the Leuna chemical works. The Class 65.10 was developed after the Second World War as a powerful tank locomotive that would replace engines of classes 74, 75, 78, 86, 93 and 94. Numbers 1001 and 1002 were built at VEB Lokomotivbau Elektrotechnische Werke (LEW), formerly Borsig Lokomotiv Werke (AEG), Hennigsdorf, and the production models at VEB Lokomotivbau Karl Marx, (LKM, formerly Orenstein & Koppel) Babelsberg.
Initially, there was no bridge directly connecting the new segment to the existing segment on the opposite side of the creek. Traffic had to exit the parkway and climb out of the valley to city streets, use the high- level P Street Bridge, and then descend back into the valley. The low-level bridge directly connecting the parkway segments and bypassing the high-level bridge was completed in 1936, and was the last original bridge constructed on the parkway. This completed the final link, allowing motorists to drive from Virginia Avenue to Rock Creek Park without any stoplights, leading to a rapid increase in commuter traffic that soon necessitated measures such as operating the entire parkway one-way during rush hour.
124 Street begins at Jasper Avenue and travels north, forming the boundary between the neighbourhoods of Oliver and Westmount. It functions as the connection between Jasper Avenue and 102 Avenue, the east- west corridor between downtown and west Edmonton; formerly part of Highway 16 (pre-1950s) and Highway 16A (1950s-1980s). 124 Street continues north through mixed commercial and residential and at 109 Avenue it transitions to medium density residential, entering the neighbourhood of Inglewood north of 111 Avenue. At 118 Avenue, 124 Street downgrades to a residential street through the neighbourhood of Prince Charles with various traffic calming measures in place including barrier at 125 Avenue preventing through traffic; north-south commuter traffic is directed west to 127 Street.
Walter Kidde, who was the trustee-in-bankruptcy for the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railroad after filing for bankruptcy reorganization in 1937, noticed that most commuter traffic was heading to Midtown Manhattan, and that the major railroads in the area had or little or no service to Midtown. The Lincoln Tunnel had been completed in 1937, and Kidde offered the idea that it might be faster for commuters to head to Midtown by connecting with bus companies that used State Highway Route S-3. A couple years later, Railway Age noted that it was common to backtrack from the Erie Railroad's Pavonia Ferry terminal at Chambers Street to midtown. This new connection would save money for commuters from Paterson, Hackensack and Butler to get service to Times Square.
The station has a “home” platform (next to the station building) and an island platform. The line between Wolfgang and Gelnhausen is cleared for operations at 200 km/h, so that long-distance trains run through the station at high speed. Langenselbold station is now only served by local and regional services and has significance for commuter traffic to and from the Rhine-Main area. From 1904 to 1963, Langenselbold station was served by the standard gauge Freigericht Light Railway of the Gelnhausen District Railway. The Gelnhausen District Railway had its own entrance building and separate facilities east of the "state” station. The Hanau Light Railway (Hanauer Kleinbahn) also ran between Hanau and Langenselbold, but operated from its own station in Langenselbold, which was significantly closer to central Langenselbold than the "state” station.
Akihabara Station was opened in November 1890 as a freight terminal linked to Ueno Station via tracks following the course of the modern day Yamanote Line. It was opened to passenger traffic in 1925 following the construction of the section of track linking Ueno with Shinbashi via Tokyo Station and the completion of the Yamanote Line. The upper level platforms were added in 1932 with the opening of an extension to the Sōbu Line from its old terminal at Ryōgoku to Ochanomizu, making Akihabara an important transfer station for passengers from the east of Tokyo and Chiba Prefecture. The huge growth in commuter traffic following the Second World War caused considerable congestion and was only relieved with the construction of the Sōbu line tunnel linking Kinshichō with Tokyo, bypassing Akihabara.
Only Riverside Drive, Wyandotte Street, Tecumseh Road, County Road 42/Cabana Road and the E.C. Row Expressway serve the almost from the west end of Windsor eastward. All of these roads, especially the E.C. Row Expressway are burdened with east–west commuter traffic from the development in the city's east end and suburbs further east. There are eight north–south roads interchanging with the expressway: Huron Church Road, Dominion Boulevard, Dougall Avenue, Howard Avenue, Walker Road, Central Avenue, Jefferson Boulevard, and Lauzon Parkway. Traffic backups on some of these north–south roads at the E.C. Row Expressway are common, mainly at Dominion, Dougall, Howard, and Walker as the land south of the expressway and east of Walker is occupied by Windsor airport and there has been little development.
Around the turn of the 20th century, the eastern side of Judiciary Square became an enclave of Italian immigrants in Washington; the equivalent of a Little Italy, although it was never called that. The Italian neighborhood rested on the eastern edge of the square proper, stretching eastward to about 2nd Street NW. The heart of the community was Holy Rosary Church, a chapel built at 3rd and F Streets NW. The neighborhood grew throughout the 20th century, with a particular surge of Italian immigrants in the 1950s and 60s. However, the construction of Interstate 395 through the city in the 1970s razed about half of the neighborhood and forced its remaining residents to move away from the heavy commuter traffic. Today, the former Italian enclave is dominated by Federal office buildings and law offices.
1941 Farm Security Administration mural to promote the sales of war bonds During World War II, the terminal became heavily used by troops moving across the United States, and thus additional ticket offices were opened. Mary Lee Read, an organist playing in the terminal from 1928 to the late 1950s, brought commuter traffic to a standstill during the war while playing the U.S. national anthem, and was subsequently asked by the stationmaster not to play the anthem and delay commuters. Also during the war, retired employees rejoined the terminal's staff, and women first began being trained as ticket agents, both to make up for the lack of younger men. Due to Grand Central's importance in civilian and military transit, the terminal's windows were covered with blackout paint, which would prevent aerial bombers from easily detecting the building.
Despite substantial differences that resulted in his dismissal shortly afterwards, Ritter convinced the council to reverse an earlier resolution supporting the Government Freeway Plan and instead to oppose it. This is now considered Ritter's greatest legacy, for the plan would have run a freeway down the Swan River foreshore to surround the city with what architect Theodore Osmundson described as an "iron collar [which] can only eventually choke the central city to death". Ritter successfully argued that a freeway along the foreshore would cut the city off from the waterfront and was unnecessary in terms of traffic volumes, and that the proposed northern freeway leg would be sufficient to carry commuter traffic. Ritter claimed that this challenge to Carr's authority was not lightly forgiven, but in spite of this the two individuals "cooperated on virtually all other issues".
Access for BUR officers to the line was made difficult and Scottish Region staff were dismantling equipment even as negotiations progressed. An amount of £75,000 per year was demanded to connect with the main line at Portobello. A lower price was asked of the section between Riddings and Carlisle - £100,000 for the track and £68,000 for the land - but the sale would come with the obligation to ensure that of fencing be kept sheep-proof. The BUR decided that the Melrose to Edinburgh section offered scope for regular commuter traffic and chose Melrose as its headquarters. Things began to go wrong in 1970 when a number of potential backers pulled out and the 1970 general election saw the appointment of a new Minister of Transport, John Peyton, who was unable or unwilling to understand the BUR's plans.
A year later, El 11.2092 was also taken into use after a similar rebuild. El 9 remained in sporadic use until 1989. Class 69 electric multiple units were taken into use starting on 10 August 1982. These had been allocated to Bergen District for use on the Bergen Commuter Rail, and were also used on the direct trains between Bergen and Flåm.Gubberud & Sunde (1992): 84 The main disadvantage with the class was the small windows, as the trains were designed for commuter traffic rather than sight-seeing. In 1990, a fast ferry service was introduced in Sogn with direct services to Bergen. In 1991, the Gudvangen Tunnel opened, giving Flåm a road connection to Gudvangen and terminating the ferry service. NSB was losing money on the line, in part because of very low revenue per rider.
Lack of upkeep means that the line is restricted to a maximum speed of 64 km/h and the existing trains are poorly timetabled for commuters. A committee (the Nenagh Rail Steering Committee) working in conjunction with Irish Railway News, had a meeting with the national railway company Iarnród Éireann (IÉ) on 1 September 2005 to present the results of a traffic study funded by Nenagh Town Council and North Tipperary County Council, and to seek a morning and evening service between Nenagh and Limerick which would increase commuter traffic. IÉ agreed to delay an afternoon service from the December 2005 timetable and to work towards an early service when equipment permitted from 2007. A January 2012 national newspaper article suggested that Irish Rail was expected to seek permission from the National Transport Authority to close the line.
The G&SWR; had historically favoured small tender locomotives for almost all duties other than light shunting, and prior to the delivery of the Baltics its only passenger tank engines were 14 small 0-4-4Ts built for suburban services. However, Robert Whitelegg had previously served as Locomotive Superintendent of the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway which made almost exclusive use of tank engines on its heavy commuter traffic, and he brought this experience with him when he joined the G&SWR; as Chief Mechanical Engineer in 1919. During his time at the LT&SR; Whitelegg had designed the first 4-6-4T locomotives to operate in Great Britain; the LT&SR; 2100 Class. Some of the G&SWR;'s passenger traffic resembled the LT&SR; express services, so Whitelegg again opted for a 4-6-4T.
A receiver was appointed and the independent company had no choice but to be absorbed by the Great Northern, this being formalised by an Act of Parliament in 1883. A 1902 Railway Clearing House Junction Diagram showing (lower left) the western end of the Hatfield and St Albans Railway (orange) in GNR days The Great Northern tried to counter the effect of the Midland, by running a few through coaches from St Albans to King's Cross but this did not last. It tried instead to foster local commuter traffic by timing the connections at Hatfield, so that services from St Albans, Luton and Hertford arrived within a few minutes of each other, whilst leaving a few minutes for the King's Cross connection. This was not competitive with the Midland's Main Line, but St Albans and Hatfield as well as surrounding villages prospered as local traffic developed.
The Glendale Freeway (SR 2) was originally planned and constructed in 1959 to connect with the Hollywood Freeway (US-101) through the neighborhoods of Silver Lake and Echo Park, but terminates roughly northeast of its intended terminus at the Hollywood Freeway due to opposition from residents living and developers building on a hill that is now a private gated community called Hathaway Estates. In 1962, as a result of this local community opposition, the full build-out plan was rescinded and construction was terminated at the present SR-2 terminus near Glendale Bl and Duane Street. Since then, commuter traffic exiting and entering on to SR-2 has passed through the community, primarily along Glendale Bl and Alvarado Street, which has contributed to congestion. Since that plan has been scrapped, the freeway is somewhat isolated from the remainder of the Los Angeles freeway system.
The A556 is a road in England which extends from the village of Delamere in Cheshire West and Chester to the Bowdon Interchange in Cheshire East, bordering Greater Manchester. The road contains a mixture of single and dual carriageway sections and forms a large part of the route between Manchester and Chester. It also acts as a major access route to Chester/North Wales to the west & to Manchester to the east for the conurbation of towns and villages around the Dane Valley centering on Winsford and Northwich, the central part which forms the Northwich Bypass Between Davenham and Lostock Gralam suffers because of the sheer amount of commuter traffic from this area. The part of the route between the M6 motorway junction 19 and the M56 motorway junction 7 is a major route into Manchester and has been recently upgraded to a four-lane dual carriageway.
The original M77 was a short spur route which took traffic from the M8 motorway in the Kinning Park area of Glasgow, ending at a roundabout on Dumbreck Road close to Bellahouston Park, although prior to this there had been an unused spur running to roughly Ibrox telephone exchange on Gower Street. A large number of accidents and pollution problems caused in the Giffnock and Newton Mearns districts by commuter traffic and heavy lorries (the A77 is the main route for ferry-bound traffic sailing to Northern Ireland), saw an extension being built to the motorway in 1994 to bypass these areas, which was opened in 1997. This was fiercely opposed by environmentalists, who set up a road protest camp, as it meant that the motorway would cut through the historic Pollok Country Park. Approval for the extension was granted and construction went ahead.
Since the western link roads were built, a number of major developments have been built, such as the Cardiff Bay Retail Park, IKEA, Celtic Gateway, Cardiff International Sports Village that includes the Cardiff International Pool, Cardiff International White Water and Cardiff Arena, which have all generated additional traffic at the Ferry Road Interchange. In addition, the Leckwith development, which includes Cardiff City Stadium, Cardiff International Sports Stadium and the Capital Retail Park with a new Asda supermarket, have also significantly increased traffic on the Leckwith Interchange. At the Culverhouse Cross Interchange, older developments such as the Brooklands Retail Park, Wenvoe Retail Park and Valegate Retail Park, including Tesco and Marks & Spencer have also significantly increased congestion along with commuter traffic from the Vale of Glamorgan. From 1989 to 1997 there had been an increase in traffic of 78% and a further increase of 35% by 2016 is predicted by the Assembly.
Amtrak's passenger figures have shown a decline in boardings and alightings at Santa Fe Depot over the last two years. In Fiscal Year 2011, there were 753,739 boardings and alightings at Santa Fe Depot; in Fiscal Year 2012, boardings and alightings at the station declined to 708,934 (a 5.94% decrease over FY2011). As of Fiscal Year 2013, the Amtrak ridership figure further declined, to 686,953 boardings and alightings, a 3.10% decline over FY2012. (There has been a corresponding increase in Amtrak boardings at the Old Town Transit Center in San Diego over this same period, possibly indicating that some Amtrak boardings have been relocating from Santa Fe Depot to Old Town over the past two years.) Daily freight trains, operated by BNSF, run through the station often at night (usually 4 trains or more during the late hours) due to less commuter traffic at that time.
Meols Cop railway station opened on 1 November 1887, originally as part of the Liverpool, Southport and Preston Junction Railway from to . It is the only part of that line still in use, having replaced a section of the Manchester and Southport Railway. The LP&SJR; struggled financially from opening and was absorbed by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway in July 1897. Within four years, the new owners of the line had diverted services to their established terminus at Chapel Street along with those of the West Lancashire Railway from , with Central being relegated to use as a goods depot. The line through Meols Cop was electrified in February 1909 by the L&YR; to exploit the area's potential for commuter traffic, with the popular electric service between Southport & being diverted there over the north to east side of the triangular junction with WLR, which was sited immediately to the west.
Still, in 1938 the CPR funded a new "union" station at Galt's Main Street in contemporary art deco-style, a sign of the gradual shift of the centre of the combined lines toward Preston and Galt, rather than Brantford. As the Dolphin Expressway (SR 836) has become increasingly congested with commuter traffic, SR 948—a much older road—has become (with LeJeune Road) a primary access route to the passenger terminals of the airport, and, as a result, is reaching its carrying capacity on a regular basis.
