Concerned about the growing drug trade in his local area, and learning of a large crop of marijuana in nearby Coleambally, New South Wales, Mackay told Sydney police of the information he had obtained regarding the crop, which resulted in several arrests, and four men of Italian descent being convicted on Mackay's information.

In December 2010, Dwyer met Joe Hunter, a pizza chef hailing from South Carolina interested in opening a community-minded pizzeria in his adopted home of Philadelphia. The following month in January 2011, businessman Michael Carter and master carpenter Ryan Anderson teamed up with Brian and Joe. Hunter immediately set to work on Pizza Brain’s unique pie concepts and flavor profiles. Carter provided curatorial direction to Dwyer’s collection and developed the business’ strategic model, including its emphasis on content-rich social media. Anderson applied his considerable carpentry talents to the design of Pizza Brain’s physical space, making creative use of reclaimed and found materials.

When WUCO moved its studios to Columbus in July 2007 as part of St. Gabriel Radio, Gene Kirby, a community-minded local citizen, stepped up to help fill the void for local community radio when he started up WMHO, a micropower AM broadcaster at 1620 kHz. This Part 15-compliant broadcast first aired classic country and later an oldies format. WMHO was on the air until the summer of 2011 until its tower was irreparably damaged by a lightning strike. In July 2017, she launched the UCLA Center for Diverse Leadership in Science, which focuses on the intersection between race and environmental science. When Westphall became too demanding in his efforts to establish an AIDS clinic at St. Eligius (which sharply conflicted with the business-minded approach of both Gideon and Weigert), Gideon orchestrated a showdown between Westphall and his superiors at Weigert, which resulted in Westphall being fired. Gideon did offer to go to bat for Westphall and get him reinstated ... if he agreed to abandon his efforts regarding the AIDS clinic. Frustrated by the way both Gideon and Weigert were trying to manipulate him, Westphall angrily rejected Gideon's offer by mooning him. Though Gideon was well-meaning and sincere in his desire to improve St. Eligius, his approach to medicine contrasted sharply with the community minded, Catholic social justice traditions of the hospital.

Unfolding over three acts, the play centers on the life of one of three Chicano lawyer brothers initially struggling with maintaining his morals and ethics, and eventually succumbing to the needs of family as well his own desires. Recruited by a federal judge, Tomas becomes an undercover informer tasked with spying on his brothers’ illegal drug trafficking business, foolishly thinking he’ll be able to save the family.

In 2001 Wynick/Tuck Gallery moved to the large former industrial building at 401 Richmond Street West, which was being developed by the community minded Margie Zeidler in a similar way to the development of 80 Spadina. Wynick and Tuck renovated a new space at 401 that combined the best of their previous spaces, particularly the combination of a larger space with smaller spaces for more intimate viewing and a ground floor location. In 1975, it was extended again after another arrest, this time on charges of securities fraud and mail fraud in connection with a phony "medical consulting" company he had formed in Kansas City. Ronald Daniel Stewart, OC, Member of the Order of Nova Scotia, Member of the Executive Council of Nova Scotia (hon), former Minister of Health for the Province of Nova Scotia and member of the provincial parliament, was born in North Sydney, on the island of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and was raised in the neighbouring town of Sydney Mines. The son of a community-minded homemaking mother and a coal-miner father who entered the mines at the age of 14, his early education was obtained in local schools in which he was steeped in the classics and from an early age was expected to excel in his studies. He led his 18-member class at graduation and was awarded several scholarships to university.1 He was the first of his family to graduate from high school and the only member of his graduating class to enter university.

The island was one of the first British regions to get a community television station, with TV 12. In October 2002 the Restricted Service Licence (RSL) for the Isle of Wight (Rowridge transmitter) was awarded to a new not-for-profit local television station, Solent TV, which was the first not-for-profit community television station in the UK. It went into receivership in 2007. Upon leaving Pepsi, Bello formed JoNa Ventures, a family investment vehicle that included among other endeavors investment and active involvement in Firefighter Brands, Soup Kitchen International, Eye and PresbyopiaTherapies and Beso Del Sol Sangria. With former NFL associates Bruce Burke and Peter French, Bello formed Firefighter Brands, a social enterprise intended to benefit local firefighting units with revenues generated from the sale of Firefighter Branded coffee, chips, chili's, trail mixes and energy drinks. The project was supported by a group of well to do and high-profile community minded investors but ultimately failed due to lack of cohesive co-operation among various firefighting entities. In 2005, Bello invested in and became chairman of Soup Kitchen International, a company he helped found that markets soups created by Al Yeganeh, the New York-based soup chef made famous as the "Soup Nazi" on the popular Seinfeld TV show, for retail stores, and developed franchised restaurants.
