When the mill ceased to operate in 1904 he invited some of the Islanders who worked on the plantation to work for him on his newly purchased acreage. Another land owner, Alexander Charles Huth sold them some of his land. They worked for him in his gardens and with their earnings paid for their land. A Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE), in the United Kingdom, is an independent body which considers the provision of religious education in the area under the jurisdiction of its Local Authority, advising it and empowered to require a review of the locally agreed syllabus for Religious Education (RE). A SACRE is made up of representatives of the Local Authority, the Church of England, Association of Teachers and representatives of other faith or other Christian groups, as well as, increasingly, humanists and other interested non-religious groups. The latter found that there is "no evidence to suggest that there is a problem with governance generally" nor any "evidence of terrorism, radicalisation or violent extremism in the schools of concern in Birmingham," but said that there was "evidence that there are a number of people, associated with each other and in positions of influence in schools and governing bodies, who espouse, sympathise with or fail to challenge extremist views," and that there had been "co-ordinated, deliberate and sustained" attempts "by a number of associated individuals, to introduce an intolerant and aggressive Islamic ethos" into "a few schools in Birmingham." Peter Clarke appeared unaware the schools had a Duty to Promote Community Cohesion, which was assessed as part of Ofsted Inspections.

He resigned from the Conservative Party on 23 July 2019 when Johnson was announced as the new leader. The CPA campaigned against the building of the Abbey Mills Mosque in West Ham, planned to have been built by a sect of Islam which the CPA claimed was a "radical sect". The party's broadcast in relation to the planning was censored on both the BBC and on ITV, leading to the CPA taking unsuccessful legal action. A 23-year-old man from Stevenage posted a death threat on YouTube in response to the group's opposition to the mosque's construction. The party claimed the planned mosque was an "unwanted landmark", stating its belief that the construction would "undermine community cohesion".

The government commissioned Henley Review of Music Education (2011) reported that "there is no doubt that they (the In Harmony projects) have delivered life-changing experiences". Independent evaluations published in 2011 reported that the programme has a significant impact on educational attainment and community cohesion. Pendle Community Radio is a community radio station based in Nelson, Lancashire. Starting broadcasts on 103.1 MHz FM in September 2007, it aims to provide dedicated programming to the Asian Muslim population that live in Pendle, east Lancashire, during times of Muslim holy festivals. As common with many of the UK's new community radio stations, it will also have a wider remit to promote wider "social gain", for all local communities, through on-air access via voluntary opportunities. The station also aims to help with community cohesion and integration, economic regeneration and development and political wellbeing.

Multicultural policies were adopted by local administrations from the 1970s and 1980s onwards. In 1997, the newly elected Labour government committed to a multiculturalist approach at a national level, but after 2001, there was something of a backlash, led by centre-left commentators such as David Goodhart and Trevor Phillips. The Government then embraced a policy of community cohesion instead. In 2011, Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron said in a speech that "state multiculturalism has failed". This led McCormack and the team to begin establishing links with a number of European universities, including Roma Tre University in Italy, Sheffield Hallam University in United Kingdom, the University of Ostrava in the Czech Republic and most recently the International University of Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Yesterday/Today/Tomorrow has further plans to build academic connections, to develop community cohesion projects on the subject of the European refugee crisis. It also plans to create an educational app to be used across global education systems, as a resource to support learning for teachers and students on the migrant and refugee crisis.

'Lessons from Srebrenica' is a flagship education programme established to help strengthen British society, with over 1,450 people taking part from the UK since 2013. These individuals come from all walks of life, all ethnicities, and all faiths or none, but have one thing in common: the desire to promote positive change within their local community by agreeing to undertake a pledge to promote community cohesion and integration. The participants play an important role in arranging memorial events and other activities across the country, working together with Remembering Srebrenica’s eight English regional boards and three country boards.

The British government has made attempts to improve community cohesion by nurturing a sense of shared or collective national identity. One programme designed to encourage greater social mixing includes the busing of students of Pakistani origin to "white schools" in an attempt to bridge the divide between the British Pakistani and white British ethnic groups. The Mirpuri community has made significant economic progress over the years. In almost all the major UK cities there is a sizeable Mirpuri business community which owns take aways, restaurants, shops and taxi bases to small and medium- sized manufacturing units, legal and financial firms.

There are several ways that people may form a community, which subsequently influence the way a community may be strengthened: # Locus, a sense of place, referred to a geographic entity ranging from neighborhood to city size, or a particular milieu around which people gathered (such as a church or recreation center). # Sharing common interests and perspectives, referred to common interests and values that could cross-geographic boundaries. # Joint action, a sense of coherence and identity, included informal common activities such as sharing tasks and helping neighbors, but these were not necessarily intentionally designed to create community cohesion. # Social ties involved relationships that created the ongoing sense of cohesion.

The British authorities also encouraged Ramgarhias to migrate within India during the first quarter of the 20th century. Their inventiveness and skills at construction, repair and maintenance were of much use at, for example, the tea plantations in Assam. Now distant from their landlords in Punjab, who were mostly Jat Sikhs, the Ramgarhia diaspora in the Brahmaputra Valley of Assam were able to enhance their social status even higher. The lessons learned in Punjab, where they had established a few gurdwaras to aid community cohesion and had been loyal to the British and generally unwilling to support the Jat-led Akali movement, assisted their improved status in Assam.

Because of the shared outlook on and use of the gardens, the precinct has developed a sense of community cohesion unusual in the Melbourne context. The gardens are also socially important as a focus of community life for the surrounding district with the maintenance of their amenity a priority of municipal government since their inception. The existence of the tennis and bowls clubs in the gardens for over a century is a further manifestation of this social importance.

The Lake City Community Memorial Building is a historic structure located in Lake City, Iowa, United States. The building was built as a memorial to those who served in the American Civil War, the Spanish–American War, and World War I. It was a project of the women in the Lake City Civic Improvement Society, a Progressive Era organization that exemplified civic involvement and community cohesion. They provided the funding while the city council was responsible for its development. The two-story, brick Neoclassical structure was designed by the Des Moines architectural firm of Proudfoot, Bird & Rawson, and it was built by Arthur H. Neumann & Co., also of Des Moines.

In 2015, the Yellow Boat of Hope USA, a 501 (c)(3), was formed, with Dr. Lim named as Co-founder/President. A strong believer in empowerment, education, community cohesion, and sustainability, Dr. Lim, Jay Jaboneta, Ofelia M. Samar-Sy and their fellow Yellow Boat associates offers transportation, medical help, economic involvement, and educational support. Among the projects: Dormitories adjacent to schools for those children with long distances to travel; school room additions; schools; and Yellow Boats designed to support ALS needs throughout the islands, in conjunction with the Department of Education. The goal is that by giving these communities the necessary tools to succeed, these communities will, in time, no longer need the Yellow Boat Foundation.

Ripples Foundation has run several youth projects in Gravesend with local schools to encourage community cohesion through cultural awareness. Ripples has furthermore, in partnership with Promasidor, provided materials needed for playing sports to Cowbell Football Academy in Nigeria. The items, which include leather balls, jerseys, boots, keeper gloves, water bottles, and sports pumps, were presented to the Academy at the Main Bowl of the National Stadium SurulereLinagos on Saturday, February 21, 2015. Twenty-four secondary schools of over 500 students benefited from the donation, supporting children who were interested in the game but could not afford equipment, and keeping them off the streets by engaging them in a meaningful sporting activity with the potential to develop their character.

The Burst Pipe Dream was a 7-day installation that took place in 2008 at Brighton's Jubilee Square, under the guise of a subsidiary company called 'Big Oriental Squid Inc'. The purpose of the event is described by BOSI as > The story that Brighton would be welcoming Europe’s first Giant Squid Farm > in newly developed, Jubilee Square. Created with two core aims in mind, the > primary being community cohesion - the building of Jubilee Square had > overrun and as such caused a discourse in the relationship between > construction, public space and community. The second was to respond to the > overfishing of our oceans by highlighting the role of corporations, who put > profit before the planet.

Many of the social effects of gentrification have been based on extensive theories about how socioeconomic status of an individual's neighborhood will shape one's behavior and future. These studies have prompted "social mix policies" to be widely adopted by governments to promote the process and its positive effects, such as lessening the strain on public resources that are associated with de- concentrating poverty. However, more specific research has shown that gentrification does not necessarily correlate with "social mixing," and that the effects of the new composition of a gentrified neighborhood can both weaken as well as strengthen community cohesion. Housing confers social status, and the changing norms that accompany gentrification translate to a changing social hierarchy.

His Parliamentary career commenced when he became the Member of Parliament (MP) for Dewsbury in 2005. The BNP also polled their highest number of votes in the country in Dewsbury, receiving over 5,000 votes. In 2007 he became Britain's first Muslim Minister as International Development Minister, and subsequently served as a Justice Minister, Home Office Minister and in his last Ministerial role at the Department for Communities and Local Government he led the UK Government's efforts in fighting Extremism, overseeing Race, Faith, Community Cohesion, developing The Tames Gateway (the largest development area in Europe) and managing the Fire and Rescue Service Department for Communities and Local Government.

OTI utilizes both "soft" (community-leadership shuras, District Governor outreach visits) and "hard" (small-scale infrastructure) activities to strengthen linkages between communities vulnerable to insurgent exploitation and positive GIRoA influencers.

He said that the efforts to instil fundamentalist practices into Birmingham classrooms were based on a "warped and abusive view of the religion". Michael Gove, Secretary of State for Education, announced after the investigation that schools must promote "British values" Michael Gove, the Education secretary, announced that all of England's schools would have to promote "British values" of tolerance and fairness and that teachers would be banned from the profession if they allowed extremists into schools. This would be so despite the fact that the previous duty on schools to promote community cohesion had included an emphasis on 'shared values' which were exactly the same values espoused in the new duty. New clauses were added into funding agreements for academies, stating that the Secretary for Education could close schools whose governors do not comply with "fundamental British values".

Prior to this, she was a research fellow at the Institute of Public Policy Research (IPPR) focussing on anti-discrimination issues from 1999–2002. From 2002–2005, she worked in the community cohesion unit at the Communities Directorate of the Home Office, leading a work programme to mobilise local and national agencies in the aftermath of the 2001 riots in Burnley, Bradford and Oldham, to prevent further conflict and unrest, challenging central Government to provide appropriate support to these areas. He has supervised 40 PhD students, 50 MSc students and numerous post-doctoral fellows from all parts of the world and holds patents on engineering. Over the past 25 years Al-Hassani’s interest has turned to promoting the cultural roots of science as a platform for community cohesion, intercultural appreciation and world peace. In order to do this, he has created a global movement aspiring to fill the 1000 years amnesia in our knowledge during the period commonly known as the Dark Ages, the Golden Age of the Muslim Civilisation, and to show their connectivity to present society. Now an Emeritus Professor of Mechanical Engineering and an Honorary Professorial Fellow at the School of languages, Linguistics and Cultures, Faculty of Humanities at the University of Manchester, Al-Hassani’s work on the history of science and technology has earned him worldwide reputation.

Stechford Baptist Church is a small Baptist church in the Stechford area of Birmingham, England and is notable for a 40-year history of combating racism and promoting community cohesion in a British urban-deprived setting. In the vanguard of attempts from the 1960s to engage immigrant Caribbean communities within mainstream indigenous churches, it played a key role in opposing the National Front during the 1970s. By the 1980s and 1990s it achieved a 50%/50% balance of indigenous and non-indigenous membership and leadership, thereby contrasting sharply with a UK tendency towards majority-white and majority- black churches, where splits are typically in the 90/10 ratio. During the 1990s the church developed relationships with a number of black-led community groups which had grown out of the 1985 Handsworth riots (which also included Stechford), and from 2000 the church worked to support asylum-seeker rights.

Ramesh Kallidai is the former Secretary General of the Hindu Forum of Britain which is the largest umbrella body representing British Hindus., 11 Apr 2015, Report in the Sunday Guardian referring to HFB as the largest and fastest growing Hindu organisation in the UK Kallidai was the first Secretary General of the organisation. He has also served as a Commissioner of Integration and Cohesion to the British Government, appointed by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government., 25 Aug 2006, The Information Daily.com which brought out a white paper called 'Our shared future', which laid out a new agenda for community cohesion in the UK 14 July 2007, Final report of the Commission of Integration and Cohesion He has acted as a formal advisor to the British Government on various platforms such as the London Criminal Justice Board, the Race Hate Crime Forum.

Although Sacred Heart Parish was one of the poorest parishes during its active tenure, Father Al committed the church to the community by having its two most active parishioners, Ramon Arvizu and Pete Avila, graduate from St. Vincent De Paul Society's charity training school to help the local residents with food insecurity and inadequate housing. Ramon Arvizu was the father of the late Abraham F. Arvizu, a pioneering community activist from Phoenix, AZ. Abraham J. Arvizu, son of Abraham F. Arvizu, is one of the last surviving members of the Sacred Heart Church Parish Council. Understanding the importance of community cohesion, Father Al and his parishioners continued to address non-religious needs such as lighting, pavements, and sewage systems. A local juvenile court worker stated that after Father Al's arrival, "the number of juvenile cases dropped sharply as those persons under his influence began working together as family units and as a community".

"West Midlands Police has taken account of this advice and explored options available to them and has now referred the matter to the broadcasting regulators Ofcom as a formal complaint. West Midlands Police has also informed Channel 4 of this course of action." West Midlands Police then complained to Ofcom that the programme had been subject to such an intensity of editing that those who had been featured in the programme had been misrepresented (creating an unfair, unjust and inaccurate perception of both some speakers and sections of the Muslim community within the West Midlands); the footage had been edited in a way that resulted in material being broadcast in a form so altered from the form originally delivered that it was "sufficient to undermine community cohesion"; and the programme was "likely to undermine feelings of public reassurance and safety of those communities in the West Midlands for which the Chief Constable has a responsibility". The resulting complaints to Ofcom were rejected by Ofcom on 19 November 2007.

Dempster, harmonica player for the Brunswick Blues Shooters, stated during the rally, while alongside Kelly: > As far as I’m concerned, the small venue is a centre of community cohesion, > people know each other, and they’re drawn together.

Popat is an advocate of community cohesion and the importance of reconciling and uniting different cultures under the UK’s central democratic process. Before his elevation to the House of Lords, he was an active supporter of the Conservative Party, acting as a party adviser to help engagement with the British Indian community to the Thatcher and Major governments. Popat has advocated that the Conservative Party is a union where enterprise, hard work and social responsibility are respected and encouraged, and that these are values which the British Indians naturally share. He has worked to bridge the gap between the Conservative Party and the British Indian community and believes that the Party and the community will mutually benefit from a deeper and sustained engagement and understanding. In 2009 Lord Popat was honoured with an award at the Asian Political and Public Life Awards at the House of Commons by the Conservative Party’s then Chairman, Eric Pickles MP, for promoting the Conservative Party in the community. In May, 2010 it was announced that he would be ennobled on the recommendation of David Cameron, for his services to small and medium-sized businesses and to the wider community.
