Current facilities include the HTHS gymnasium, baseball stadium, softball field, soccer field and Hewitt-Trussville stadium.

In 1826, at the age of 16 he entered Harvard and graduated among the top of his class in 1829. He was one of the "Class of 1829", made famous by Oliver Wendell Holmes. WVSC Dimensions was born to inspire the students of the demands of developmental communication in 1978. Ramon G. Zarceno was its first editor. WVSC Dimensions was first produced as a graduation issue at the end of the academic year to cover stories about graduates and the commencement exercises. The 1980s chronicled changes that happened in society – reforms and the advent of clashing ideologies that led to a level of critical thinking.

On May 19, 2019, Hinton spoke at St. Bonaventure University's commencement exercises and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Human Letters degree. Across Hamilton Street is the block called Old Queens, the seat of the university. The mall bisecting the block was formed when Bleecker Place, a city street, was closed. After several generous donations to Rutgers, including the first building dedicated to housing the institution's library (now known as Voorhees Hall), the grassy mall was named for Ralph and Elizabeth Rodman Voorhees. On August 24, 1898, the seminary was solemnly dedicated by Riordan, joined by Bishops George Montgomery of Los Angeles and Thomas Grace of Sacramento, along with more than 100 clergy. On September 20, 1898 the seminary received 31 high school students and 3 college-level students. The first annual commencement exercises took place on May 31, 1899 and were presided over by Riordan. As the seminary continued to develop, a Department of Philosophy was established with six students.

After his work on Crisler Arena, Dworsky was commissioned by UCLA to design a track and field stadium on the university's central campus. Dworsky designed the stadium, known as Drake Stadium. Since its inaugural meet on February 22, 1969, the stadium has been the site of numerous championship meets, including the National AAU track & field championships in 1976, 1977, and 1978. It sits across the street from the Ivory Tower and Townhouse Row residences. Behind Townhouse Row, between F and G Streets, is the Charles E. Smith Athletic Center, on 22nd Street. The 'Smith Center' is a 5,000 seat multipurpose arena that is home to Colonials basketball games, commencement exercises, orientation exercises, and entertainment events.

ISUST was established on 16 June 1947 as Barotac Nuevo Junior High School, which was opened for the first and second year. It held its first commencement exercises on 25 March 1949. On 22 June 1957, it was converted into Central Iloilo National School of Fisheries (CINSOF) by virtue of RA 1925. More and more states were blocking non-accredited colleges and universities from offering classes within their borders, so it was decided to close Living University. The Smith Center's last concert was in 2008, when Boys II Men performed. The facility is used each year for various local high schools' graduations, as well as the December commencement and various May Commencement exercises.

The District is fortunate that members of the Holland Springfield Spencer Historical Society have maintained a wealth of information about the Springfield/Holland community. From them we know that in 1898, Springfield Schools held its first commencement exercises for a class consisting of two graduates - Mabel Hovey and Eathel M. Wood. Ms. Hovey later became Holland's first Mayor and believed “...what Holland had been was nothing compared to what it could be.” When elected mayor, Ms. Hovey was one of only two women mayors ever elected in Ohio.

Hilo High School's commencement exercises are normally held during the end of May. Hilo High school has several commencement traditions that stretch back to the school's first graduation in 1909. The graduating class recites a variation of Gaudeamus Igitur with lyrics directly referencing Hilo High, and members of the Hilo High School Alumni Association pass out a lei to every graduate. This latter tradition is attributed to the patriarch of the Tong family, who was among the school's first graduates and supposedly gave a lei to a fellow graduate who was without one during their commencement ceremony.

Savage Arena (formerly John F. Savage Hall and Centennial Hall) is a multi- purpose arena located in Toledo, Ohio, on the campus of the University of Toledo. The arena opened in 1976 and originally seated 9,000 for basketball and up to 10,000 for concerts. As part of a $30 million renovation and addition to the arena, completed in 2008, the seating capacity was reduced to 7,300 for basketball and up to 8,300 for concerts. It primarily serves as the home venue for the Toledo Rockets men's and women's basketball teams and women's volleyball team, and also hosts concerts, commencement exercises, and other events.

Chelmsford, Massachusetts and Dracut, Massachusetts Vital records Barzillai, Dinah, and several of their sons and daughters sang and played wind and stringed instruments all over New England. They were noted throughout the 19th and 20th centuries as well- educated, skilled, and talented musicians. It was said "no family in Middlesex County from Lowell to Cambridge could produce so much good music." They formed a complete band in their family and were employed to play at assemblies in Portland, Maine, Boston, Massachusetts, other large cities and towns, as well as commencement exercises at several New England colleges.

The Kirkland Archives are housed in the Burke Library at Hamilton College. In 2007 a display case, containing a rotating exhibit of items from the Archives, was installed in the lobby of McEwen Hall, near an iconic sculpture, the "rock swing" that dates from Kirkland's early years. To make way for the construction of Morrill Hall during 1906, the barn and a line fence on the property were demolished, while the original "Johnson House" was moved to 590 Main Street (i.e. the current location of the Dudley H. Davis Student Center). In 2005, the Johnson House was again moved to the opposite side of the street, on the southwestern corner of University Heights and Main Street. The Association subdivided the latter parcel and started selling lots with the hope it could raise enough money to repay its lenders and also create a new college town. But sales of new homesteads fell short. Governor Frederick Low favored the establishment of a state university based upon the University of Michigan plan, and thus in one sense may be regarded as the founder of the University of California. At the College of California's 1867 commencement exercises, where Low was present, Benjamin Silliman, Jr. criticized Californians for creating a state polytechnic school instead of a real university.

Pinn received a Candace Award from the National Coalition of 100 Black Women in 1990. The Commonwealth Fund named Pinn the recipient of its 2000 Margaret E. The respective colleges of UP Mindanao then later found their homes during this year: the School of Management began its occupancy of the Terraza Milesa Building at F. Iñigo Street (Anda Street), while the College of Science and Mathematics and College of Humanities and Social Sciences used the Academic Building I left by the University of Southeastern Philippines. Some classes were still held in the PCA Building, as the Administration Building was being constructed during this period. It was eventually used and occupied in 2000 by the university administration, then later by CHSS in 2009. The pioneering batch of graduates celebrated their commencement exercises later that year.

Excited about the pending move to Durham, the Class of 1892 held commencement exercises in an unfinished barn on the Durham campus. Over 115 businesses, buildings and homes were completely demolished or partially destroyed and the entire African-American section of town was wiped out. The Purvis High School graduating Class of 1908's commencement exercises were due to start the night the tornado hit and part of the exercises had been previously performed the morning of the tornado. The morning exercises were completed at the two story brick schoolhouse on Mitchell Street just one hour before the storm hit and had it lasted one hour longer, the death toll would have been far greater for the entire second floor of the schoolhouse was removed by the twister.

The Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center, often referred to as the MAC Center and the MACC, is a multi-purpose arena on the campus of Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, United States. The building is primarily used as an athletic venue that is home to five Kent State Golden Flashes varsity athletic teams, including the men's basketball and women's basketball teams. The arena also hosts women's volleyball, women's gymnastics, and wrestling as well as commencement exercises, speakers, and concerts throughout the year. Morgan State University in Baltimore announced that it would be suspending face-to-face instruction for the remainder of the semester on March 17. The school began in March 1919, with the purchase of the estate of William Knauth by Reverend Mother M. Kostka Bauer. In May of that year, the Daughters of Divine Charity arrived on Staten Island and in the fall inaugurated tutoring classes for a group of twenty-five children who had come to them during the summer. These classes led to the institution of the Academy. During the school's early years, it was also a boarding school. The first secondary level classes of the Academy were begun in 1930, and the first official Commencement Exercises were held for six high school graduates in June 1934.

In 2008, as part of the university's Centennial Capital Campaign, it was announced that an $8 million fundraising goal was set to endow the office as the "Peg Dolan, RSHM Campus Ministry Center" in honor of Dolan's contributions to the university. The Alumni Association of Texas Technological College, more commonly known as the Texas Tech Alumni Association, was founded on May 30, 1927 after the first commencement exercises were held by Texas Technological College. All 26 graduates joined the organization, marking the first and last time that all graduates of the school belonged to the organization. In April 1935, the organization changed its name to "Alumni and Ex-Students Association" to include both graduates, and non-graduates. Silas Albertson Underhill (1840-1906) was born the son of Alexander Underhill (1810–1891) and Phebe W. Albertson (1818–1847) in a frame house on the north-east corner of Park and Bedford Avenues in Brooklyn, New York, that is no longer extant. His father Alexander Underhill was born in house Major John Andre was captured on the highway from Peekskill to Somerstown. When Alexander was a young man he came to Brooklyn and engage in the mil business with Delmonico Farm—the largest dairy in and around Brooklyn. He was one of twelve students to receive the degree of Bachelor of Arts from Haverford College during commencement exercises in 1860.

The Nursing Capping and Candle Lighting Ceremony is a unique tradition pioneered College of Nursing has pioneered which was later followed by some nursing school in the Philippines. The tradition dates back in the early years when the college was founded in 1906 as the Union Mission Hospital Training School for Nurses. Held at the end during the junior year of the nursing students at Rose Memorial Auditorium, the tradition involves involves students don their CPU-Iloilo Mission Hospital nursing uniforms, the lighting up of candles and the placement of a nursing cap on the heads of women nursing students. The Pinning ceremony on the other hand happens before the commencement exercises of a graduating nursing students.

March 1973 was the last commencement exercises under the Religious Missionaries of St. Dominic. From then on, the new congregation of Daughters of St. Dominic took over the reign of the school this time under a diocesan congregation with Bishop Jesus J. Sison at the helm. 1980 marked a milestone in its history when Sr. Carmen Tiamzon, principal of DS then, envisioned that the school could be of better service to the community of Capas and neighboring towns if it could offer tertiary education. What started as simple typing classes, the "mustard seed" grew slowly into a college department that now boasts of courses like Computer Secretarial, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Elementary Education, and Bachelor of Secondary Education.

A number of concurrent degree programs and certificates are offered between the schools. ESF receives an annual appropriation as part of the SUNY budget and the state builds and maintains all of the college's educational facilities. The state has somewhat similar financial and working relationships with five statutory colleges that are at Alfred University and Cornell University, although unlike ESF, these statutory institutions are legally and technically part of their respective host institutions and are administered by them as well. ESF faculty, students, and students' families join those from Syracuse University (SU) in a joint convocation ceremony at the beginning of the academic year in August and combined commencement exercises in May.

The following school year, the school admitted students for the Second Year level until 2 years later, the First Commencement Exercises was held at the grounds of Bagumbong Elementary School together with the elementary students. In 1985, BBHS was turned into an independent high school and became Bagumbong High School, which was the present name of the school. Mrs. Adelaida Gagarra, then Officer-in-Charge of the school, with the help of her brother, then Councilor Leonardo Clamor, found a larger land space for the school, which was in Rainbow Village 5 Subdivision, Bagumbong, Caloocan City (the present location of the school). On 1 June 1988, the construction of the school's new location was started.

In an effort to acknowledge the merger of the two high schools, the school board voted prior to the 1993-1994 school to name the new school Forest Hills High School. The new high school opened during the Fall of 1993 and held commencement exercises during June 1994 for what would become the only graduating class of Forest Hills High School. Following the 1993-1994 school year, several new school board members were elected to the Randolph County Board of Education with support from the Elkins High School Alumni Association. During the summer of 1994, these new board members voted to change the name of the school back to Elkins High School.

Inspired with the three years of successful operation, the members of the Board of Trustees conceived the opening of a tertiary education to cater higher educational needs of its high school graduates. This marked the birth of its college department offering initially the courses Bachelor of Science in Education, Commerce and General Associate in Arts with Mr. Vicente P. Salvador as the first college dean. The opening of the normal course necessitated the opening of a complete elementary education which served as the training ground of its teacher trainees. On April 25, 1949, the first commencement exercises of the Normal Department of the college was held followed by another one on December 17, 1949.

While he was valedictorian of UC Berkeley's class of 1942, he was unable to attend commencement exercises due to internment. Narendra Karmarkar (PhD 1983) is known for the interior point method, a polynomial algorithm for linear programming known as Karmarkar's algorithm.

MSU-IIT's Research Building The Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) is one of the few autonomous external campuses of the Mindanao State University and "the light-bearer of the several campuses of the MSU System."Macapado A. It is considered as one of the best universities in Philippines with a standing of being within the top ten (10) best universities in the country with excellence in Science and Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Technology, and Natural Sciences. The institution has also produced many topnotchers and rankers in multiple board exams.

With the brother hospitalized, the children are taken to the Brooklyn Hebrew Orphan Asylum, where they are well cared-for until the brother is released from the hospital. Several years later, the Board of Directors of the Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charities assemble at the orphan asylum to attend the commencement exercises of this institution, where they hear a valedictorian address delivered by the little orphan boy who was left there by his uncle years before. His passionate address, “Charity, or How the Jews Care for Their Poor,” deeply moves the audience, particularly affecting one philanthropist who donates a large sum of money to the Federation in the hope that his act will serve as an example to all Jews to further the Federation's charity work.

In August 2012, the Huntsville City Schools announced plans to build a new school, and retain the name JO Johnson. In 2013, it was announced the school would receive a new building, but retain its name in 2016. The latest statement is that the Johnson name will not transfer to the new school (unlike the 4 other high schools rebuilt over the years) The school name will close and be changed to Mae Jemison High School and for the middle school that will share the campus, Ronald McNair Junior High School. These school names are named after the NASA Astronaut Mae Jemison On Thursday May 26, 2016, Johnson held its 44th and final Commencement Exercises at the Von Braun Center Arena.

John Lesslie Hall (March 2, 1856 – February 23, 1928), also known as J. Lesslie Hall, was an American literary scholar and poet known for his translation of Beowulf. Born in Richmond, Virginia, the son of Jacob Hall, Jr., Hall attended Randolph–Macon College and received a PhD from Johns Hopkins University. He taught English history and literature at the College of William & Mary from 1888 to 1928 (becoming head of the English department and dean of the faculty, and receiving an honorary LLD in 1921); he "was one of the original members of the faculty which reopened the college in 1888".Shirley Spain, "Vice-Admiral Hall Will Deliver Address at Commencement Exercises on June 12," The Flat Hat, May 24, 1949.

However, the assassination attempt on President Garfield in July 1881 and the ensuing illness before Garfield's death in September upset Walker's transition and delayed his formal introduction to the faculty of MIT until November 5, 1881. On May 30, 1882, during Walker's first Commencement exercises, Rogers died mid-speech where his last words were famously "bituminous coal". A 1905 map of MIT's Boston campus MIT's inability to secure a more stable financial footing during this era can largely be attributed to the existence of the Lawrence Scientific School at Harvard. The opening of the Robins Center returning Spider basketball to an on-campus facility for the first time since the mid-1940s when it outgrew Millhiser Gymnasium. In the intervening decades, the Spiders played home games in numerous locations around the Richmond area, including the Richmond Coliseum (1971–1972), the Richmond Arena (1954–1971), the Benedictine High School gymnasium (1951–1954), Grays' Armory (1950–1951) and Blues' Armory (1947–1950). In 1998, graduate school dean Keith D. McFarland was named the 10th president in the history of A&M;–Commerce. The formal dedication of the Barron County Campus of Stout State University in Rice Lake, Wisconsin was held in September 1968. In 1983, Lewis was hired as chairman and CEO of Warner-Amex Cable Communications (WACCI), the joint venture between the then Warner Communications and American Express, succeeding Gustave M. Hauser. In this role, he was also chairman of the WACCI subsidiary, Warner-Amex Satellite Entertainment Company (WASEC), which eventually became known as MTV Networks after a public offering in 1984. In April 1986, about the time Warner Communications sold its interest in MTV Networks, and purchased American Express's share of Warner Amex Cable (renaming it Warner Cable), Drew Lewis left WACCI to become Chairman and CEO of the Union Pacific Corporation and its subsidiary, the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1986, Lewis appeared at the commencement exercises of his alma mater, Haverford College, to be awarded an honorary doctorate degree.

Ramona Convent Secondary School's first building was dedicated at Ramona Acres, on January 29, 1890 on the expansive property that was later called Shorb, and is now part of the City of Alhambra. The Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary came from Oakland, California at the request of several prominent San Gabriel Valley families interested in the Catholic education of their daughters. The James de Barth Shorb family donated of the of the original property. The first building to be built was a four-story red brick building on the knoll that dominated the Convent grounds. The dedication ceremony was presided over by the Right Reverend Bishop Mora of Los Angeles on January 29, 1890. The first commencement exercises were held on June 23, 1891.

The audience at the gala was so impressed by EWF's performance that the band was bestowed with the Gaviota de Plata (The Silver Seagull), which is the highest award that can be presented to an artist performing at the festival. EWF's song "In the Stone" has also been used for several years as the introductory theme for the festival's broadcasts. During May 2008 EW&F; performed at the Apollo Theater's fourth annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Maurice White, Ralph Johnson, Philip Bailey, and Verdine White each received an honorary degree from the Arts and Media College at Columbia College Chicago's 2008 commencement exercises.

The University of Southern California (USC) School of Dramatic Arts announced the first annual Robert Redford Award for Engaged Artists in 2009. According to the school's web site, the award was created "to honor those who have distinguished themselves not only in the exemplary quality, skill and innovation of their work, but also in their public commitment to social responsibility, to increasing awareness of global issues and events, and to inspiring and empowering young people." Redford received an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts from Brown University at the 240th Commencement exercises on May 25, 2008.

That year, Kellogg published her only surviving poem, "A Tribute to the Future of My Race", which she recited during the commencement exercises at Sherman Institute. "Peabody Prizes" are awarded to top high school graduates beginning the following year at commencement exercises and continued for 122 years as an honored annual tradition with public announcements to city's media. During the 1285th Board of Regents meeting on January 24, 2013, the UP Board of Regents selected Dr. Sylvia B. Concepcion as the fourth Chancellor of the UP Mindanao. Her term started on March 1, 2013, and will last until February 28, 2016. The turn-over ceremony (and also the testimonial ceremony for Chancellor Rivero) was held on February 22, 2013, and the Investiture Ceremony for the new chancellor was conducted on April 19, 2013, simultaneous with the 16th Commencement Exercises.

On May 9, 2000, the Orangeburg County Consolidated School District Three Board of Trustees approved a referendum to build a new high school, and the district voters passed the referendum on September 9, 2000. After two years of preparation, the official groundbreaking ceremony was held on November 12, 2002, and actual construction began on November 21 and continued for the next two and a half years. Lake Marion High School and Technology Center was created for the 2004-2005 school year by consolidating Elloree High School and Holly Hill-Roberts High School. Since the building was not completed until the summer of 2005, Lake Marion High School and Technology Center’s first year was actually split between two locations: a Holly Hill campus and an Elloree campus. However, the Class of 2005, the school’s first graduation class, held their commencement exercises at the football field on the new campus.

St. Benedict Belmont Abbey College was founded in 1876 as St. Mary's College by Benedictine monks from Saint Vincent Archabbey in Pennsylvania. Father Jeremiah O'Connell purchased Caldwell farm and donated the land to the Benedictines, hoping the community would found a Catholic educational institution in the Carolinas. On April 21, 1876, Father Herman Wolfe, from Saint Vincent, arrived with two students to take possession of the property and begin classes. In 1878, the college held its first commencement exercises. Katharine Drexel, a benefactor of the monastery and college, visited Belmont Abbey in 1904. The present name of the college was adopted in 1913. In 1967 John Oetgen, college president and Benedictine priest, conferred an honorary degree on the Protestant evangelist Billy Graham, marking what was at the time seen as a bold ecumenical gesture. Originally a college for young men, Belmont Abbey became a coeducational institution in 1972.

Antonio, business tycoon, billionaire and entrepreneur Robet Coyiuto, Philippine basketball legend Carlos Loyzaga, actor Eddie Gutierrez, and 2004 Philippine presidential candidate & actor, Fernando Poe, Jr., and people that have been recognized as one of the top 10 students in the Philippines.

The school was immediately popular among Catholic families and was well enough known in its early years to attract the attention of President John Quincy Adams, who visited the school to test the boys' Latin and Greek. However, there were financial problems that caused the Jesuits to withdraw in 1827: their order prohibited the charging of tuition at a day school for youth. It continued to be run by laity until the Jesuits returned some twenty years later (with the ordinance regarding tuition changed); President Zachary Taylor presided at the commencement exercises in 1849. In 1858, Gonzaga was granted its own charter by Congress as a college empowered to confer degrees in the arts and sciences, which accounts for its name (Gonzaga College) to this day. Although some students did receive bachelor's degrees in the 19th century, Gonzaga no longer confers degrees, other than honorary doctorates presented to commencement speakers or other notable guests.

Laurentian's students came from two distinct areas: to the west, the middle-class neighbourhoods of Bel-Air Heights and Copeland Park, bounded by the Queensway, Woodroffe Ave, Baseline Rd and Clyde Ave; and to the north and east, the blue-collar and social housing neighbourhoods of Carlington: Caldwell, Morrisset, Trenton and surrounding streets. As the thousand-odd houses in the Bel-Air Park and Bel- Air Heights and Copeland Park neighbourhoods had been built by Robert Campeau within the space of about five years from approximately 1957 through 1962, the population of children at first steadily increased as the young couples bought houses and had children, then steadily declined as the initial home-buyers' children graduated. LHS had its first Grade 13 class in 1961 out of an enrollment of 728. Marion B Daley, Miss Rough Riders 1960, was a student at LHS. The first 182 LHS graduates were advised during the first commencement exercises in November 1961 to "Get going, get hitched and get lost".

A physician by training, Carrington decided to switch from curative to preventive medicine in order to more effectively deal with the public health problems facing the developing world. In 2000 she received a Masters of Public Health degree from the Harvard School of Public Health, where she specialized in International Public Health. She was elected by her classmates there as a Class Marshal and was selected by Harvard to represent all of its graduate schools as the graduate orator at the university's commencement exercises. Dr. Carrington delivered an oration summoning that year's graduates to make the problems of the developing world a high priority in their lives. Recalling the injunction her father had given her during the Nigerian Civil War she called upon the audience of over 6000 people to “Defend the Defenseless.” Carrington previously worked as an Associate Director of the Harvard School of Public Health's AIDS Prevention Initiative in Nigeria (APIN).

On August 18, 1855, the last examination for admission was held and the opening of the college was announced on the August 22. In February 1855, an association was formed whose main job was to raise funds for the college. It consisted of parishes, auxiliary, and religious societies, and was known as the "Tufts College Educational Association." The first matriculation exercise occurred from 9:00-11:00 in the morning on August 16, 1855. Opening prayers and four toasts were made with the total amount subscribed at the dinner to be $4,000. Under President Ballou, 21 students entered the Freshman class including four who had been studying there the previous years. Additionally, there were three Sophomores, three juniors, for a total of 30 students. The Class of 1856 had 15 students but by 1859 it had risen to 50. The first commencement exercises occurred on July 8, 1857 with three students receiving their degrees.

Steven Chu in 2014 Steven Chu is a co-winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1997 for the "development of methods to cool and trap atoms with laser light", shared with Claude Cohen-Tannoudji and William Daniel Phillips. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Philosophical Society, the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the Academia Sinica of Taiwan, and is a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Korean Academy of Science and Engineering. He was also awarded the Humboldt Prize by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in 1995. In 1998, Chu received the Golden Plate Award of the American Academy of Achievement. Steven Chu with his medal as a Pontifical Academician, 12 November 2018 Chu received an honorary doctorate from Boston University when he was the keynote speaker at the 2007 commencement exercises.

Sto. Tomas Integrated High School was first known as Calauan Stand-alone Senior High School and later Calauan Senior High School, established in school year 2016–2017. It initially offered three Technical- Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) Tracks in Grade 11 and 12, to wit: Home Economics Combo 1 (Front Office Services NC II, Attractions and Theme Parks NC II, Tourism Promotion Services NC II, and Local Guiding Services NC II), Home Economics Combo 2 (Cookery NC II, Bread and Pastry Production NC II, and Food and Beverage Services NC II), and Information Communications Technology (Computer Systems Servicing NC II). The following school year 2017–2018, it was integrated and became known as Sto. Tomas Integrated High School and offered complete basic secondary education by adding Junior High School (Grade 7 to 10). Thereby, it held its first Moving-Up Ceremonies in Grade 10 and its first Commencement Exercises in Grade 12 this year.

Former President's house, now adjoined to the Hintz Alumni Center Established in 1870, nine years after the university's first commencement exercises, the Penn State Alumni Association has the stated mission "to connect alumni to the University and to each other, provide valuable benefits to members and support the University's mission of teaching, research, and service." The Alumni Association supports a number of educational and extracurricular missions of Penn State through financial support and is the network that connects alumni through over 280 "alumni groups", many of which are designated based on geographical, academic, or professional affiliation. , the Alumni Association counts 496,969 members within the United States, with an additional 16,180 in countries around the globe.. About half the United States alumni reside in Pennsylvania, primarily in the urban areas of Philadelphia (and the surrounding counties), the Pittsburgh Area and in the Centre County region surrounding State College, although alumni can be found in every region of the country and abroad. About 34 percent of United States alumni and 21 percent of international alumni are members of the Alumni Association.

News of the land swap, and especially the fact that it was done behind closed doors, sparked outrage. Also in 1986, Virginia Tech became embroiled in an athletic scandal sparked by allegations of illegal recruiting, the bitter departure of two athletic directors in less than a year and millions of dollars of debt run up by the university's sports program due to mismanagement of financial resources, million dollar coaching contracts, and lavish expense accounts for athletics officials that led to a rebuke from Governor of Virginia, Gerald Baliles in 1987. Baliles, the featured speaker at the Virginia Tech's 115th annual commencement exercises, scolded the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors for the scandal and warned other state-supported institutions in Virginia not to put athletics ahead of academics. Lavery developed a reorganization plan for the troubled Athletic Department, and Frank Beamer was hired to replace Bill Dooley as head football coach, but with negative publicity continuing to swirl within and around the university, he announced his resignation on October 16, 1987, effective December 31, 1987, to prevent polarization of the campus.

Growing budgetary problems at Radcliffe encouraged this insistence. The Radcliffe Graduate School merged with Harvard's in 1963, and from that year onward Radcliffe undergraduates received Harvard University diplomas signed by the presidents of Radcliffe and Harvard. (Harvard students' diplomas were signed only by the president of Harvard.) Many Radcliffe and Harvard student groups combined during the decade and joint commencement exercises between the two institutions began in 1970. Harvard president Derek Bok reduced the admissions ratio of Harvard students to Radcliffe students from 4:1 to 5:2.

Although he made his first attempts at composition when he was six years old, Witt began serious composition while in high school, and was one of the first two male graduates of Ursuline School of Music’s music department, presenting a graduation recital of three compositions: Prelude, Lorelei- Reverie, and Syncaprice. In 1951 and 1952, Witt represented Juilliard in the Symposia of the International Federation of Music Students. In March 1951, his Divertimento for Three Woodwinds was presented at Yale University, and presented again a year later in New York under the auspices of the League of Composers. His Te Deum for Chorus and Brass Quintet was performed at the Symposia in 1952, and later that year was enthusiastically received at Carnegie Hall when performed by the New York Concert Choir, directed by Margaret Hillis. Commissioned by the Youngstown Philharmonic and premiered by them in February 1953, his Concerto Grosso (Concertato for Orchestra) was selected by the Juilliard faculty as the best composition by a graduate student composer, and was played at Juilliard’s commencement exercises in 1953"'Concerto Grosso' by Witt Played at Juilliard Exercises," Youngstown Vindicator, June 1, 1952.

New building for Spears School of Business In 1995, Gary Trennepohl becomes dean of the College of Business Administration, serving until 1999 when he was asked to become president of the newly created OSU-Tulsa campus. Finally, in 2004, The College of Business Administration is renamed the Williams S. Spears School of Business. Today, the college is known as the Spears School of Business. A record 1,031 diplomas are granted at commencement exercises in 2012. Four students were in the first graduating class of the School of Commerce and Marketing in 1916, and the school has graduated students every year since. On May 5, 2014, Ken Eastman is named Dean of the Spears School of Business following a national search. Eastman has taught at the business school since 1989, serving as an assistant professor (1989-1995), associate professor (1995-2014), director of the MBA program (1999-2003), acting department head (2002-2003), and as the head of the Department of Management (2003-2014). On September 5, in addition to celebrating 100 years of business education at OSU, the Spears School holds a groundbreaking ceremony for a new business building to be constructed just north of the current building.

The first building to bear the name of Theodore Roosevelt now serves as Davey Elementary School. Increases in enrollment throughout the 1910s led the school board to request funds to build a new high school building along with additions to other district buildings to ease overcrowding and prepare for expected growth in enrollment. A bond issue for the various construction projects was approved by voters June 24, 1919. Initially, the school board had planned to build the school on property along South Water Street adjacent to downtown, but decided against this citing the need for a larger lot and building to accommodate expected growth. Eventually, a site at the intersection of Park Avenue and North Prospect Street was purchased and construction began May 31, 1921. It was completed less than a year later, on May 22, 1922, and hosted commencement exercises for the graduating class in June. The four-story building cost $400,000 (approximately $ present-day) and contained a gymnasium with seating for 300, an 833-seat auditorium, and 27 classrooms. Later that year, in August, the Kent School Board adopted a resolution to name the building after former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt. The first classes were held in the building September 6, 1922 and it was dedicated September 22.
