Mixed up in all that are easily a dozen other recognizable human characters, including military toughs, comic relief, and assorted nerds, not to mention a roughly equal number of Transformers – the most important of which are Optimus Prime (voiced as before by Peter Cullen), who's come to Cybertron to seek out his maker, and Megatron (voiced by Frank Welker), the ultimate evil Transformer.
Not only are best friends Lopez and Leah Remini a joy to see on screen — especially when Remini dares to repeatedly slap a true megastar like J.Lo, something only a beloved old friend could get away with — but so are other pairings like Charlyne Yi's surprisingly kinky comic relief Ariana and the very game Chase (Orange Is The New Black's Alan Aisenberg).
Instead of instantly useful RPG archetypes, the Ravens have an old bard, a growing assortment of dubiously effective magicians, a giant who was as dangerous to his friend as his enemies, and some… guy named Dytch, who is perhaps the first Rando-class character in a tactical RPG (and who provides some of the most welcome and charming comic relief in this game).
By digging into these weightier character issues without skimping on the comic relief, Waititi's topsy-turvy ride into Thor's homeworld of Asgard and the discontents it holds yields the best Thor movie in the series so far, and arguably the funniest Marvel movie in the studio's cinematic universe too (at least until the next Guardians of the Galaxy comes out).
