Huge crowds gathered at the Colosseum to watch events such as events involving gladiators, combats between men, or fights between men and wild animals.

The complete excavation was carried out in 1975-76 under the direction of Lawrence Keppie. The bath house was made up of: a Vestibule, a Frigidarium (cold room with cold plunge bath), a first and second Tepidarium (warm rooms), a Caldarium (hot room with nearby hot bath), and a Praefurnium (furnace room). Perhaps around 20 soldiers at a time could use the bath house. Hundreds of artifacts were taken from the excavations on the site to the Hunterian Museum at Glasgow University.

The timber framed roof is unlined and accommodates a narrow ridge vent with fixed glazed windows and timber louvres. The place is important in demonstrating the principal characteristics of a particular class of cultural places. The layout of the factory, with its large internal space, loading bays, cold room, engine room, exterior water tanks, office building and other secondary structures demonstrates the principle characteristics of an early twentieth century butter factory.

A photon of ultraviolet light delivers a high amount of energy—enough to contribute to cellular damage such as occurs in a sunburn. A photon of infrared light delivers less energy—only enough to warm one's skin. So, an infrared lamp can warm a large surface, perhaps large enough to keep people comfortable in a cold room, but it cannot give anyone a sunburn.

A steer that weighs when alive makes a carcass weighing approximately , once the blood, head, feet, skin, offal and guts are removed. The Corps of Engineers' St. Paul (Minnesota) District established its Permafrost Division in 1944 to determine design methods and construction procedures for the construction of airfields on permafrost.

The Baños del Cenizal are an Islamic baths located in the city of Toledo, in Castile-La Mancha, Spain. These Islamic baths, preserved in the cellars under the building of the calle Bajada del Colegio de Infantes nº 14 street, have had as purpose its conversion into a visitable space, by means of its putting in value with an appropriate approach of recovery of its most remarkable elements. It has focused on two rooms that make up the Bath or Hammam: the main hall and cold room, since all other rooms (hot and warm rooms) are conserved under the adjacent buildings. They are declared of Bien de Interés Cultural.

The early part of Morris's confinement were the most trying. Danish miner Svend Viltorft digs up a section of a giant reptile's tail from the frozen grounds in Lapland, where he and other miners are drilling. The section is flown to the Denmark's Aquarium in Copenhagen, where it is preserved in a cold room for scientific study. In 1873 he prepared the sailing ship Norfolk for an experimental beef shipment to the United Kingdom, which used a cold room system instead of a refrigeration system.

In the 2014–2016 excavations carried out in the west side of the Castle, a crenellated corridor belonging to a second defense system adjacent to the wall of the Castle (between the polygonal and rectangular towers) was uncovered. The excavations in 2017–2018 in the southern part of the Castle located its bathhouse on the second storey. The bathhouse is well preserved, with a cold room (frigidarium), dressing room, warm room (tepidarium), hot room (caldarium), hypocaust and furnace (praefurnium). Excavations were also carried out on the north-west of the mound at the centre of the site, where houses of the Zengid and Ayyubid periods, pottery, coins etc.

The first major room visitors entered was the undressing room (mashlah in Arabic or goulsa in the local Moroccan Arabic dialect), equivalent to the Roman apodyterium. From the undressing room visitors proceeded to the bathing/washing area which consisted of three rooms: the cold room (el-barrani in the local Arabic dialect; equivalent to the frigidarium), the middle room or warm room (el-wasti in Arabic; equivalent to the tepidarium), and the hot room (ad-dakhli in Arabic; equivalent to the caldarium). Hussain Jawad allegedly "confessed" to a number of charges when he appeared before the Public Prosecution again on 21 February. Later, on 23 February, he told the Public Prosecution that he had been tortured at the CID, including by being beaten, deprived of sleep, forced to stand for a prolonged period in a cold room, insulted, humiliated and threatened with rape and sexual assault, and forced to "confess". He was questioned by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), the body mandated to investigate and bring to court allegations of torture and other violations by the security forces, and told them he was tortured and threatened with further torture if he withdrew his confession. In Islamic cultures the significance of the hammam was both religious and civic: it provided for the needs of ritual ablutions but also provided general hygiene and served other social functions in the community such as a gendered meeting place for men and for women. Archeological remains attest to the existence of bathhouses in the Islamic world as early as the Umayyad period (7th-8th centuries) and their importance has persisted up to modern times. Their architecture evolved from the layout of Roman and Greek bathhouses and featured a regular sequence of rooms: an undressing room, a cold room, a warm room, and a hot room. Heat is produced by furnaces which provided hot water and steam, while smoke and hot air was channeled through conduits under the floor.

Kayne Griffin Corcoran opened its new South La Brea gallery in May 2013 with a historical survey of James Turrell’s work related to Roden Crater, including drawings, photographs, models, as well as notes, tools, and architectural plans. The gallery has also featured exhibitions of Turrell’s Glass works, which are wall installations each unique in shape and size incorporating a distinct timed composition of color transitions. The gallery’s first exhibition of works by Mary Corse included The Cold Room, an immersive environment in which a wireless light box hangs in near-freezing temperatures.

Blatteis later recalled that his introduction by Horvath to his later field of research was "trying to maintain my own body temperature as a test subject in the cold room." Immediately following his graduation, he was drafted into the US Army and assigned as a First Lieutenant, Medical Service Corps, to the US Army Medical Research Laboratory at Fort Knox, Kentucky, where he served until 1961. From 1961 to 1962 he was a NIH postdoctoral fellow under Dr. Alberto Hurtado at the Institute of Andean Biology, San Marcos University in Lima, Peru, and from 1962 to 1963, under Dr. Geoffrey S. Dawes at the Nuffield Institute, University of Oxford. in Oxford, UK. Upon his return to the US in 1963, Blatteis joined the US Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine in Natick, Massachusetts, as a civilian researcher and Branch Chief.

The film was created and produced by the digital effects shop at Threshold, located in Santa Monica, California in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. In late 2002/early 2003, Kasanoff reported that hard drives containing most unfinished assets from the film had been stolen in what he called an act of "industrial espionage" and "an incredibly complex crime", saying "They got into the cold room, a room within a room within a room." An investigation, which included the United States Secret Service, was unable to find the thief. The film was supposed to be computer-animated, with an exaggerated use of "squash and stretch" to resemble the Looney Tunes shorts, but after production resumed in 2004, Kasanoff changed it to a style more centered in motion capture, with the result being that "he and animators were speaking two different languages".
