Because of that, Colas thinks they have a good chance to beat those expectations.

Still, they're facing the same seemingly insurmountable cost problems as Colas and the French.

"That really limits the amount of interest that investors and shareholders have," Colas said.

Nonetheless, Colas sees more room to run, given strength across many S&P sectors.
|

A 2006 study found an association between drinking colas and low bone mineral density.
|

"That's the beginning of the economy rolling over, and with that stocks," Colas said.
|
|
Colas doesn't see any shortcuts around the hefty price to pay for the cryptocurrencies.
|

"You'll see a central bank cryptocurrency before you'll see a bitcoin ETF," Colas said.
|

For Colas, the catalysts may not even be on the market's radar screen now.
|
|
"Anything over 0003% is very bad," said Nicholas Colas, co-founder of DataTrek Research.

Some are going to work, and some aren't," Colas said Thursday on CNBC's "Trading Nation.

This January, the restaurant is introducing $2 Captain Morgan rum-and-Coke or other colas.
|

"There's enough of an analogy to hang your hat on," Colas said in an interview.

"They are basically fiddling with the dials," said Nicholas Colas, co-founder of DataTrek Research.

"Demand as a store of value far exceeds the demand for transactional cash," Colas said.

Even though Colas is confident there's no bubble, he acknowledges investors could face big disappointments.

Health care is one natural alternative, but that move already may have begun, Colas said.

Colas is one of the earliest Wall Street market strategists to begin writing about bitcoin.

"Public equity markets are packed with successful and highly profitable old-line companies," Colas wrote.

"Not yet," Colas said when asked if bitcoin had achieved legitimacy as a system of payment or currency.

Colas said he believes online bookmakers are right in saying there is a roughly 30 percent chance Britain will vote to leave.

To Convergex chief market strategist Nick Colas, this is indicative of a market that has more than just oil on its mind.

While COLAs have boosted retirement benefits by 50% over those years, the goods and services retirees typically buy went up by 100%.

"Purchasing a new vehicle is entirely discretionary; they can always fix the old one and keep it running another year if they are worried about business conditions," Nicholas Colas, co-founder of DataTrek Research said.

"When that happens, you get the classic risk-off-everything sell-off," said Nick Colas, co-founder of DataTrek Research, who has been on top of ETF trends since the industry was in its infancy.

Even with the country's equity market down by 373 percent in dollar terms since the start of 2018, that alone has little impact on diversified equity investors, Colas wrote in a research note on Monday.

"When you have trouble holding even 2 percent on the 10-year Treasury, logically valuations would be higher, because the discount rate is lower, so it is consistent there, " Colas said, referring to the negative correlations between interest rates and valuations, as well as between the VIX and stock prices.

"The overwhelming driver is that, despite moderately increasing our media on trademark Pepsi over the past three years, our share ... has fallen dramatically relative to our key competitor, who has substantially stepped up their media spending on colas over the past two years," said Nooyi, according to an initial FactSet transcript.

Finally, Colas noted that the allocation of household wealth to stocks in China is relatively minuscule: 4 percent versus 23 percent in the U.S. In China, households have far more of their wealth in cash (20 percent versus 4 percent in the U.S.) and real estate (65 percent versus 45 percent).
