Jones gained his first professional experience playing the clarinet in his father's band and orchestra. He also gave piano lessons. In 1882, he was hired as a conductor for tours of operettas and other musical theatre pieces, such as Robert Planquette's Les Cloches de Corneville and a popular American musical show, Fun on the Bristol. He next toured with the Vokes family and also composed incidental music and songs for their farcical entertainment.

A cloche (bell) was a fixed and non-retractable firing position made of a thick iron casting which shielded its occupant. By comparison, turrets could be rotated and sometimes lowered so that only the top shell was exposed. VDP cloches were used for observation of the surrounding area for artillery direction.

In 1978 Aldo Donati and Edoardo De Angelis decided to leave the group and started successful solo careers. Following a long period on hiatus, Schola Cantorum reformed in 1995 with a different line-up, first renaming themselves as Nova Schola Cantorum and later reprising their original name.
234 Mont des Welches and Michelsberg suffered the only significant German assaults during the campaign. The German 95th Infantry Division under von Amim advanced on Michelsberg and Mont des Welches on 21 June, with advance patrols taking fire the same day. An assault using 8.8cm guns was mounted against Blocks 2 and 3, but was disrupted by fire from the entry block's cloches. Artillery fire from blocks 4 and 6 and fire from the personnel entry destroyed a German battery.

Born in Madrid, Gélabert entered the Conservatoire de Paris in 1873 and obtained a first run off in opéra comique in 1876. In 1877, she was hired at the Théâtre des Folies-Dramatiques where she created Les Cloches de Corneville, then at the Théâtre de la Gaîté, ', Le Voyage de Suzette,Le Voyage de Suzette on Gallica La Fille du tambour-major. Because of an unfortunate love story, she abandoned the theatre in 1890, and lived in retirement since then. She died alone and forgotten in Paris.

Forms of comic opera first developed in late 17th-century Italy. By the 1730s, a new operatic genre, opera buffa, emerged as an alternative to opera seria. It quickly made its way to France, where it became opéra comique, and eventually, in the following century, French operetta, with Jacques Offenbach as its most accomplished practitioner.

He wrote many successful musical burlesques, comic operas, farces and adaptations from the French, including the English-language adaptation of the operetta Les cloches de Corneville, which became the longest-running piece of musical theatre in history up to that time. He sometimes collaborated with Henry Brougham Farnie or others.
With Farnie, for the Folly Theatre in London, he wrote Up the River, or the Strict Kew-Tea (1877);Information from the Operetta Research Center Stars and Garters (1878); his biggest success, Les cloches de Corneville (1878); and The Creole. For the Comedy Theatre, he wrote Boccaccio, with music by Franz von Suppé (1882). He also wrote the successful burlesque, Carmen; or Sold for a Song (1879) for the Folly Theatre. Joan Crawford in a cloche, 1927 Cloche hats were usually made of felt so that they conformed to the head, and were typically designed to be worn low on the forehead, with the wearer's eyes only slightly below the brim. In later years, a summer cloche might be made from sisal or straw. Cloches could also be made of beads or lace for evening wear, for cocktails, dancing or even for bridal wear. The contemporaneous Art Deco style often influenced the outline of the brim or the style of seams.
There are conflicting accounts of the genesis of the piece. According to the Académie Nationale de l'Opérette, Gabet and Clairville had Planquette set their libretto, which they then offered, unsuccessfully, to various managements; it was initially rejected because of its similarity to Boieldieu's La dame blanche and Flotow's Martha. During Exercise Turenne at Grand- Hohékirkel in 1953, firing exercises cast doubt on the combat viability of the exposed cloches, which had proved vulnerable to German fire in the war. A follow-up exercise (Hoche) did, however, confirm that casemate positions remained secure against 90mm-equivalent gunfire, using AMX-13 and M47 Patton tanks to fire on embrasures.Mary, Tome 5, p. 169 After the establishment of the French nuclear strike force, the importance of the Line declined, and maintenance ceased in the 1970s, with most of the casemates sold.
Despite the fierceness of the fighting around Maubeuge, casualties on both sides were light. The delay allowed a significant portion of the 84th RIF to escape to the Dunkirk pocket to be evacuated to England, while the 87th RIF escaped to Normandy to be captured weeks later. The Germans stripped the Maubeuge fortifications during the Occupation, removing weapons for re-use and salvaging the massive steel cloches for scrap. While Maginot fortifications in other sectors were restored for further use during the Cold War, the SF Maubeuge was not reactivated.

Born in Pertuis, Vaucluse, Torr won her first singing contest at age fifteen, in 1962, winning the first year's On Chante dans mon Quartier contest in Avignon. Michèle was a tall beautiful woman with actress-like expression, and easily wins the audience over by singing the Édith Piaf song Exodus. Mireille Mathieu was runner-up that year with Les cloches de Lisbonne by Maria Candido. Then in 1963, at age sixteen, Michèle won a recording contract with the Mercury label, and opened for Jacques Brel at the Paris Olympia.

There is also a sculpture depicting Saint Yves between a rich man and a poor man. The stained glass window lighting the south transept recounts the story of the Vine, a symbol of the Church, the vine passing around depictions of Brittany's seven founding saints.
His vocal type became known as "baryton-martin", most often found in French operetta. Modern example of this voice type were French baritone Michel Dens, or closer to us Bernard Sinclair, who can be heard in a few operetta recordings such as La fille de Madame Angot, Les cloches de Corneville, and Valses de Vienne. In the operatic repertoire, the most famous role for baryton-martin is Pelléas in Claude Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande. Camille Maurane and Jacques Jansen are widely recognized as having been the best exponents of the role.
In 1947 he was appointed head gardener at the Chilton Estate, near Chilton Foliat, growing flowers and vegetables for the household in an extensive walled garden, with heated greenhouses and 200 yards of cloches. By 1981 the cost of maintaining the garden had become too high for its owner. He made it over to Dodson, who ran it as a commercial nursery. Doguereau had been working at the time for Duo-Art, a recording technology developed by the Aeolian Company. Duo-Art had invited Ravel to New York to record piano rolls ("Vallée des cloches" is the only one with sure dates from those sessions). According to Korevaar, Doguereau subsequently accompanied Ravel on part of the tour that followed, spending long hours together on the train discussing Ravel's piano music.

They could be single (with a firing room in one direction) or double (two firing rooms, in opposite directions). Alexander Henderson engaged St. John in 1878 to sing Germaine in the hit operetta, Les Cloches de Corneville by Robert Planquette with an English libretto by H. B. Farnie, in the provincial touring company (Alfred was cast opposite her as Henri, Marquis of Corneville). Towards the end of the record- setting London run, she took over the role in London, against her husband's wishes.Sharp, p. 7 The first London role that she created was the title role in Farnie's English-language version of Offenbach's Madame Favart, at the Strand Theatre in 1879.
He played Gaspard in Robert Planquette's comic opera Les cloches de Corneville (The Chimes of Normandy), with the Société Canadienne d'Opérette. In the early 1920s, Gauthier was a pioneer in radio and in the recording of Quebec folk music, making 78 speed phonograph records for Victor Talking Machine Company and Columbia Records. He recorded more than 100 songs and monologues, often with Elzéar Hamel. Gauthier created the Veillées du bon vieux temps concert presentations, which he produced from 1921 until 1941 at the Monument-National theatre in Montreal.
"Frère Jacques" ("Brother John") was the Luxembourgish entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1977, performed in French by French singer Anne-Marie Besse. As the title suggests, the disco-influenced song contains several references to the nursery rhyme of the same name; "Frère Jacques, dormez-vous?" ("Brother John, are you sleeping?") "J'entends les cloches qui sonnent" ("I can hear the bells ringing") and "Tu aurais bien mieux à faire que de jouer au grand frère..." ("There are so much better things for you to do than pretending to be my big brother....").

Mesplé retired from the stage in 1985 and turned to teaching at the École Normale de Musique de Paris and at the Music Conservatory of Lyon. After her retirement, she continued to perform recitals until the early 1990s. Mesplé left a discography encompassing opera, operetta, and mélodies, including complete opera and operetta recordings of rarely performed works such as Auber's Fra Diavolo and Manon Lescaut, Lecocq's La fille de Madame Angot, Planquette's Les cloches de Corneville, Ganne's Les saltimbanques, Messager's Véronique, and Hahn's Ciboulette. She recorded Lakmé, alongside Charles Burles and Roger Soyer, conducted by Alain Lombard.
The longest-running piece of musical theatre was the operetta Les Cloches de Corneville, which held the title until Dorothy opened in 1886, which pushed The Mikado down to third place. By the end of 1885, it was estimated that, in Europe and America, at least 150 companies were producing the opera.Mencken, H. L. A modern day decorative glass bell jar containing a succulent Purely decorative bell jars were commonly used in the Victorian period to display and serve as transparent dust covers and display cases for a wide variety of items, including clocks, taxidermy, shells, and wax flowers and fruit. Decorative bell jars were made of thin glass, with more care being taken regarding their optical clarity, and they did not have a thickened base flange. For this reason, they are not suitable for vacuum use and would usually fail if pumped down. Similar glass domes were used as cheese domes or garden cloches.
For a short time he was a medical student. Between 1861 and 1863, he was an extra clerk in the office of the ecclesiastical commissioners, and from 1864 to 1868 an extra temporary clerk to the emigration commissioners. From the 1860s to the 1880s, Reece wrote comic pieces for the stage with fair success, often adapting three-act European operettas into two-act English-language pieces. Thomas A. Bell who became Rector of the Vale in 1859, and continued in that post until his death in 1914, by which time he was the oldest active clergyman in the Anglican Church. His son Arthur was born in 1852 and became a surgeon, but died at Digby's, near Exeter in 1889, and the present bells were given in his memory by his parents. The inscription reads: Eglise de S. The son of a singer, Planquette was born in Paris and educated at the Paris Conservatoire. He did not finish his studies, lacking the funds to do so, and worked as a café pianist and composer and singing (he was a tenor). A few romances that he composed brought less fame than did his song, "Sambre et Meuse", first sung in 1867 by Lucien Fugère, who went on to be one of the foremost French opera singers of his day. In 1876, the director of the Théâtre des Folies-Dramatiques gave Planquette a commission to compose his first operetta, Les cloches de Corneville.
The company played the Knights of Columbus hall in Quebec city starting March 27, and in April the performances took place at the Palais Montcalm. He joined the Société canadienne d'opérette run by Honoré Vaillancourt, where he performed in Le Carillon de Saint-Arlon (1924), Rêve de valse (1924), La Cocarde de Mimi Pinson (1925), Ordre de l'empereur (1925), Les Cloches de Corneville (1926), Le Beau Voyage (1926), Le Jongleur de Notre-Dame (1928) and La Dernière Valse (1929). In the 1930s Belleval retired from the music business, opening a retail shop in Contrecœur. There he created the Association des marchands détaillants.

There have been two recordings of the complete score. The first, a mono set in 1955, featured Huguette Boulangeot (Germaine), Ernest Blanc (Henri); Jean Giraudeau (Grenicheux); Colette Riedinger (Serpolette), André Balbon (bailiff) and Louis Musy (Gaspard), with an unnamed chorus and orchestra conducted by Pierre Dervaux. A stereo set from 1973 featured Mady Mesplé (Germaine), Bernard Sinclair (Henri), Charles Burles (Grenicheux), Christiane Stutzmann (Serpolette), Jean Giraudeau (bailiff), and Jean- Christophe Benoît (Gaspard), with the chorus and orchestra of the Théâtre national de l'opéra de Paris, conducted by Jean Doussard. The first experiment in synchronising sound and motion pictures in 1894 featured one of the songs from Les cloches de Corneville.
She reprised her role in Evangeline in Philadelphia, where she was engaged by John T. Ford to play in a six-month touring season in cities along the East coast: Miss Hardcastle She Stoops to Conquer, Lady Wagstaff in The Pink Dominos, Miss Zulu in Forbidden Fruit, Lydia Languish in The Rivals and a role in Camille. She then returned to Boston to reprise Evangeline. In November 1878, she was Germaine in Les Cloches de Corneville. Bell played Buttercup in H. M. S. Pinafore in 1879 with the Grand English Opera Company at Haverly's Lyceum Theatre in New York and also played the role elsewhere.
"La Venoge" is a poem written by Jean Villard Gilles who also wrote the popular song Les trois cloches. It refers to the River Venoge that flows in the Canton of Vaud, Switzerland to Lake Léman. The poem, which is a vibrant and humorous homage to the author's canton, inspired Jacques Brel for his famous song Le Plat Pays (see underneath Quote). Many French Swiss, jokingly consider it as a kind of national anthem representing best their "minority entity" feelings towards the German Swiss vast majority, (see and Röstigraben): "La Venoge" being the only significant river in canton of Vaud contributing to the "French" Rhône basin, all others flowing through the German Swiss Area into the Rhine River.
