He soon was offered a job at KGO, the San Francisco outlet of NBC's Blue Network, and began his radio career scripting House of Myths. Morse began work on NBC Mystery Serial, which included such episodes as "Captain Post: Crime Specialist" and "Case of the One-eyed Parrot". The chairman is the main antagonist in book four, Necropolis, in which he appears more frequently than in Nightrise. In Necropolis, he turns Hong Kong into a necropolis, a city of the dead, using poisonous gases that smother Hong Kong's streets and suffocate the residents. The chairman oversees the murder of Scarlett's father, Paul Adams, when he demands he give Scarlett back to him after selling Matt to the chairman in exchange. He is next seen talking to Father Gregory about the Old Ones future goals and how they have finished with Hong Kong.

Leon is featured in the 1998-1999 manhua Shēnghuà Wēijī 2 ("Biological Crisis 2"). A romantic comedy retelling of the story of Resident Evil 2, centered on Leon, Claire and Ada, was released in the Taiwanese two-issue comic Èlíng Gǔbǎo II in 1999. Leon is also a character in the Image Comics comic book Resident Evil, and in the novels Resident Evil: City of the Dead and Resident Evil: Underworld by S. D. Perry. He appears in the crossover video game Project X Zone 2 as a solo unit.

Hamunaptra (also known as City of the Dead) is a fictional Egyptian city that first made its appearance in the 1999 film The Mummy. According to the films, Hamunaptra is a hidden city in the desert which is the resting place of Imhotep, the 3,000-year-old mummy that will revisit the Earth as a curse if released. He, and the city of Hamunaptra, are guarded by the Medjay, who do not want "the beast" to be awakened and have guarded it for centuries. It served as the resting place for Pharaohs and their wealth.

Imhotep attempts to resurrect Anck-su-namun, but is captured at Hamunaptra (the City of the Dead) by the Medjay (the Pharaoh's sacred bodyguards). His priests are mummified and buried alive. Imhotep, meanwhile, is condemned to endure the Curse of the Hom Dai: the ritual involves cutting out his tongue, mummifying him alive, and sealing him in a sarcophagus filled with carnivorous scarab beetles. The curse transforms Imhotep into an undead fiend kept in a state of living death, with the intention that he would suffer being eaten alive by the scarabs for all time.

City of the Dead was set on a fictional island called "Ningún Futuro" ("No Future" in Spanish). A zombie outbreak occurs on the island after a series of secret military tests on cadavers backfires. Reports had said there would be no reference in the game to Dawn of the Dead (because the 2004 version ends with the survivors winding up in a zombie- ridden island), one of the more popular films in the Dead Series due to copyright issues with the MKR Group who hold the rights to the film.

The songs "Sat'day Night in the City of the Dead" and "Dangerous Rhythm", alongside other songs from the album, were written while the band were named Tiger Lily. The former song pre-dated punk music, written over a year before the emergence of punk. The latter, a reggae influenced song, was released as the first Ultravox single in February 1977 to positive reviews. The band's early ambition to combine 1950s and 1960s pop music with the intensity of raw rock music and glam rock developed into writing longer and more intricate songs like "I Want to Be a Machine".

In the game's backstory, Mullonde's territory was once connected to the mainland, but was mostly submerged by a disaster involving the Zodiac Stones and which occurred soon after Saint Ajora's execution, with its city made into a Necrohol, a city of the dead. The city of Bervenia, Ajora's birthplace, is governed by the Church although it is enclosed in the province of Lesalia. Prior to the events of Final Fantasy Tactics, the Fara church dominated the kingdom of Ivalice.Germonik Scriptures The remake of Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, refers to the Fara Church as Pharism.

A stereotypical American cowboy, Isaac Henderson (Stephen Dunham) was one of the treasure hunters that made his way to the City of the Dead in search of treasure. His appearance was further emphasized by wielding a Colt Single Action Army revolver, and the habit of quick-drawing the weapon. Henderson was one of those present when the chest containing the Book of the Dead was opened, and because of this was a victim of the curse that sealed it. He escaped Hamunaptra with the others to Cairo, but later while guarding Evelyn's room, was attacked and drained of body fluids by Imhotep.

Bruce Kellogg and his friend Alex are off to Africa on an expedition to the "City of the Dead" that is actually footage of Angkor Wat. Bruce's fiancée Betty and her father decide to go along to visit her father's brother James who is a missionary in the same part of Africa. Arriving at the Rev Graham's home they meet Dr Hammond who has spent five years developing a serum to a deadly fever that rages in the area. The results of his work are placed on a freighter to America that has been sunk by a submarine.

The film received generally positive reviews. Some critics have seen social commentary in much of Romero's work. They view Night of the Living Dead as a film made in reaction to the turbulent 1960s, Dawn of the Dead as a satire on consumerism, Day of the Dead as a study of the conflict between science and the military, and Land of the Dead as an examination of class conflict. Romero collaborated with the game company Hip Interactive to create a game called City of the Dead, but the project was canceled midway due to the company's financial problems.

During the late 1890s, a committee recommended that the Punchbowl become the site for a new cemetery to accommodate the growing population of Honolulu. The idea was rejected for fear of polluting the water supply and the emotional aversion to creating a city of the dead above a city of the living. Fifty years later, Congress authorized a small appropriation to establish a national cemetery in Honolulu with two provisions: that the location be acceptable to the War Department, and that the site would be donated rather than purchased. In 1943, the governor of Hawaii offered the Punchbowl for a national cemetery.

Aerenal is the ancient island kingdom of the Aereni elves, who take their name from Aeren, a mythical hero said to have freed the elves from the giants of Xen'drik. It is also home to the deathless Undying Court. With the closure of the Town Hall and Devonshire Cemeteries by the mid-19th century and an ever-increasing population, a decision was made to purchase a huge area of land (250 acres) in 1862 to establish the Necropolis at Haslem's Creek in 1867.Ochert, M.S. (1998) The Mortuary Station to Rookwood in Locality, 9 (2) pp.23-26. The term "necropolis" comes from the Greek "nekropolis" or "city of the dead". As this location was some distance from the centre of Sydney and from the main-line train station at Haslem's Creek, now Lidcombe Station, it was considered necessary to establish a railway station at the centre of the cemetery.

The cemeteries are located in what were arid desert areas outside the main city and just outside the traditional floodplains of the Nile. These lands were not normally suitable for habitation but their dry desert soil promoted the natural desiccation of bodies, thus preserving them for longer and ensuring a more hygienic interment of bodies overall. In modern times, the City of the Dead has been surrounded by the urban fabric of greater Cairo, which has long since outgrown its historic core. Some areas of dense urban housing have developed at several sites within the boundaries of the historic necropolis, forming their own city neighborhoods.

The band released one album, Twenty Twenty Sound in 1999 before splitting in 2001. Following the demise of Dark Star, Francolini returned to Bristol and set up recording studio Ohm Studios, where he began working on the debut album with his new band Dragons, as well as the "City Of The Dead" project. The tomb of Sayyida Aisha remained until around the 14th Century as a simple shrine consists of a square chamber topped by a dome based on two rows of the muqarnas. In the Ayyubid era, a school was established next to the dome. When Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi surrounded the four Islamic capitals of Egypt, Fustat, al-Askar, Qataim and Cairo with one wall during the siege by the Crusaders, the wall had separated the dome from the rest of the large scale cemetery area, City of the Dead. Thus Salah al-Din established a gate in the wall and called it a Gate of Aisha.

Hip Interactive announced on December 15, 2004 that they had made an agreement with Living Dead Productions to produce a series of games based on Romero's films, with City of the Dead being the first to be developed and released. The company also expected to develop games based directly on the movies Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead. Before the cancellation, it was announced that Tom Savini, make-up artist and regular actor in the Dead Series, would be providing the voice and likeness of a character in the game. The character would have been William "Red" McLean, a supporting character that later becomes playable himself.

In 1956, Lotis toured with a production of the musical Harmony Close, and first worked as an actor in 1959 in John Osborne's The World of Paul Slickey. He also appeared in several British films, including The Extra Day (1956), The City of the Dead (also known as Horror Hotel, 1960), Sword of Sherwood Forest (1960), What Every Woman Wants (1962) and She'll Have to Go (1962). He also appeared on stage as Lucio in John Neville's production of Shakespeare's Measure for Measure. He continued his career as a singer, appearing on Six-Five Special and Thank Your Lucky Stars, and in the 1960s recorded for the King and Polydor labels.

One of the most historic and largest African American cemeteries in Baltimore, Mt. Auburn Cemetery was formed in 1872, by the Reverend James Peck in protest to segregation against the White Methodist Church. Its grounds encompass and holds more than 55,000 interred. Designated on the local and national historic registers, the cemetery was once known as "The City of the Dead for Colored People" since it was the only place a person of color could be buried. Once part of a farm, the land was given to the Methodist Church and assigned to the Sharp Street Memorial United Methodist Church to oversee its grounds.

She also told him that, once Hope started doing magic, Dahlia would sense it and come for what was hers. Sometime afterwards, once Finn was strong enough, Freya asked him to take her to Mikael, their father, who Finn had been using as a sacrificial power source in his battle with their brothers. Tensions came to a head on 24 September 1604, only a few months after Ibrahim Pasha had assumed office. The pasha, along with many armed companions, left the governor's citadel in Cairo in order to open a dyke or a waterwheel in either the Shubra or the Bulaq district of the city. Around this time, a number of soldiers in his army gathered at the City of the Dead necropolis and took an oath on the saints' tombs to assassinate the pasha. Although warned of the rebels' intentions, Ibrahim Pasha refused to move away or escape from the project to which he was attending.

From Ostegoth, he learns that he must find the Well of Souls in order to bring back Mankind, and to that end he must speak with the Lord of Bones. After completing an array of trials to gain an audience with the Lord of Bones, Death is transported to the City of the Dead to find a soul capable of telling Death what he needs to know about the Well. After facing off against a creature housing all of mankind's souls, Death meets the soul the Lord of Bones alluded to: the Crowfather's. The Crowfather tells Death that the souls of humanity are no longer bound in a host, but have been transported to the Well.

The Mummy is a 1999 American action horror film written and directed by Stephen Sommers. It is a remake of the 1932 film of the same title and stars Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, and Kevin J. O'Connor, with Arnold Vosloo in the title role as the reanimated mummy. The film follows adventurer Rick O'Connell as he travels to Hamunaptra, the City of the Dead, with a librarian and her older brother, where they accidentally awaken Imhotep, a cursed high priest from the reign of the Pharaoh Seti I of 1290 B.C. Filming began in Marrakech, Morocco, on May 4, 1998, and lasted seventeen weeks. The crew endured dehydration, sandstorms, and snakes during work in the Sahara desert.

In Thebes, Egypt, 1290 BC, high priest Imhotep has a love affair with Anck-su-namun, the mistress of Pharaoh Seti I. Imhotep and Anck-su-namun kill the Pharaoh after he discovers their affair. Imhotep flees, while Anck-su-namun kills herself, believing that Imhotep would be able to resurrect her. Imhotep and his priests steal her corpse and travel to Hamunaptra, the city of the dead, but the resurrection ritual is stopped by Seti's bodyguards, the Medjai. Imhotep's priests are all mummified alive, while Imhotep is sentenced to suffer the Hom Dai; the worst of Egyptian curses: his tongue is cut out, and he is buried alive with flesh-eating scarab beetles.

Finn McCool's Football Club - The Birth, Death and Resurrection of a Pub Soccer Team in the City of the Dead is the title of a nonfiction memoir book written by Belfast author Stephen Rea and released in February 2009 by Pelican Publishing Company. The bulk of the book's time-line stretches from 2004 until 2006. It humorously relates how Rea and his American wife emigrate from Northern Ireland to New Orleans, and the difficulties they encounter in adapting to their new life. Soon he becomes a regular at Finn McCool's, an Irish pub in Mid-City, New Orleans, and the book introduces the eccentric, international crowd that gathers there to watch European football games.

According to al-Jabarti, upon arrival in Egypt as governor, Recep Pasha was ordered by the sultan Ahmed III to audit the accounts of his predecessor, Dellak Ali Pasha, and then kill him, as well as plan the assassination of a local bey named Ismail Bey ibn Iwaz and his partisans. Recep Pasha indeed proceeded to audit Dellak Ali Pasha and had him executed by decapitation, allegedly sending his skinned head to the sultan in Constantinople. Ali Pasha's body was buried in the City of the Dead necropolis, reportedly under the name "Ali Pasha al-Mazlum" (Ali Pasha the Oppressed). Next, Recep Pasha asked a man named Mehmed Çerkes how to go about assassinating ibn Iwaz and his partisans.

A brief afterword to the novel acknowledges a debt to Apsley Cherry- Garrard's Antarctic memoir, The Worst Journey in the World. Laura Byrd's surname also recalls another Antarctic explorer, Admiral Richard E. Byrd, whose memoir Alone has a similar setting and theme to the book's even-numbered chapters. The City of the dead bears a similarity to the city described by C. S. Lewis in his novel The Great Divorce. However, while the City which Lewis describes is a sort of purgatory where souls not ready to accept heaven await the return of Jesus Christ, The City in this novel is a form of limbo dependent on the memories of the living.

City of the Dead, the Northern Cemetery, in 1904 by 250x250pxalt=By the end of the 19th century, however, the housing problems of Cairo began to be felt. Modernization efforts led to the demolition of many old buildings in the historic districts of the city, displacing much of the poor and working class towards the outskirts of the city. Moreover, rural migration towards the cities began to rise significantly (and would only increase over the 20th century). In 1897 the census put the population of the districts which included the cemeteries at 30,969 (though this may have included some regular neighbourhoods too, given the difficulty in defining the boundaries of the cemeteries).

It is divided into two parts by the Citadel of Cairo: the "Southern" Cemetery and "Northern" Cemetery, referring to the regions south and north of the Citadel. East of the cemeteries rise the Mokattam hills, which historically blocked their expansion in that direction. North of the historic city is also the Bab al-Nasr Cemetery, named after the northern city gate, which covers a much smaller area than the other two.

In 1887, Frank Hamilton Cushing, leader of the Hemenway Southwestern Archaeological Expedition, explored the ruins of an early people, a place he called "El Pueblo de los Muertos"—"The City of the Dead"— in the center of which he uncovered many large communal houses, and beyond them found the remains of more sparsely-settled suburbs extending for . The largest of these houses was bigger than Casa Grande. It was surrounded by smaller edifices, and the entire group was enclosed by an adobe wall, which was built as protection against enemies as well as to insure privacy to its occupants. There were windows and portholes in the outer walls of the houses, but there were no doors.

Scientists Eitienne and Lyra Redowl come to the planet Horseye to study the entire length of the immense Skar River and its spectacular river chasm, the largest in the whole Humanx Commonwealth. On Horseye there are three separate sentient species, which all have different concerns about their planet. The Mai, traders from the river delta, are prepared to help the Redowls, but have their own agenda for doing so, for it is rumoured that at the head of the river is the City of the Dead and a great treasure. This treasure is eventually revealed to not be material wealth, but an ancient artifact that is used to monitor the depths of space for an approaching evil.

Islamic Cairo is also the location of several important religious shrines such as the al-Hussein Mosque (whose shrine is believed to hold the head of Husayn ibn Ali), the Mausoleum of Imam al-Shafi'i (founder of the Shafi'i madhhab, one of the primary schools of thought in Sunni Islamic jurisprudence), the Tomb of Sayyida Ruqayya, the Mosque of Sayyida Nafisa, and others. Some of these shrines are located within the vast cemetery areas known as the City of the Dead or al-Qarafa in Arabic, which adjoin the historic city. The cemeteries date back to the foundation of Fustat, but many of the most prominent and famous mausoleum structures are from the Mamluk era.

While the "City of the Dead" is a designation frequently used in English, the Arabic name is "al-Qarafa" (). The name is a toponym derived from the Banu Qarafa ibn Ghusn ibn Wali clan, a Yemeni clan descended from the Banu Ma'afir tribe, which once had a plot of land in the city of Fustat (the predecessor of Cairo). The land became abandoned and disused following a famine in the 11th century and was probably then used as a burial ground, which led to the name Qarafa being used to denote Cairo's urban cemeteries in general. The term appears to be specific to this context, and is not used to denote cemeteries in other places like the countryside, nor is it necessarily used in other Arabic dialects.

Estimating the population of the "City of the Dead" is problematic due to difficulties in defining it precisely. It does not correspond to one administrative district (qism) in the Egyptian census but stretches across several, with some cemeteries blending into the main urban fabric of Cairo without presenting a clear border between city and necropolis. The Southern Cemetery is located within the "al-Khalifa" district and most of the Northern Cemetery (except the Bab al-Wazir Cemetery) is in the "Manshiyat Naser" district, but both of those administrative districts cover denser urban areas outside the necropolis zone. Estimates based on scholarly studies and the 1986 census put the population of all the cemetery zones at nearly 180,000 during that time.

Older locations depicted in the film, such as Warrior Falls, the City of the Dead, and the Hall of Kings, were juxtaposed with the more modern Afro- punk style of the Golden City, the capital. Rondavels were incorporated into the tops of Wakanda's skyscrapers, inspired by the appearance of mountains at Blyde River Canyon in South Africa. Beachler created different sigils and architecture for each of the Wakandan tribes, with the Border Tribe inspired by Lesotho, the Merchant Tribe having a sigil based on Nigerian writing, and the Golden Tribe using a sun symbol found throughout Africa. Gorilla City, home to the Jabari Tribe, was originally set in a rain forest, but Coogler suggested that it be found up a mountain in snow.

Matt, Jamie and Richard arrived in Macau where they meet Han Shan-tung, who reveals himself as "The Master of the Mountain", the leader of the White Lotus Society, a Triad based in Macau and Hong Kong. Shang-tung explains that Scarlett has been taken prisoner by the Old Ones who plan to turn Hong Kong into a necropolis, a city of the dead, by using poisonous gases mixed with the pollution from mainland China that will suffocate and kill the residents there. Shang-Tung believes Scarlett is a reincarnate of the Chinese weather goddess, Lin Mo, and has had his people watch over her all her life. He agrees to help them after affirming that Matt and Jamie are indeed part of the Five with a test: climbing a sword ladder.

A history of the "Temple of Heaven" follows along with their then- popular name "City of the Dead"; the epic recites the story of a Brahmin named Shankalan enters the mound by mistake at night and is confronted by a sorceress with a skull in her hand accompanied by screaming jackal-like noises, the Brahmin flees in terror, then dies in shock in front of his mother Gotami. The mother goes to the Champapati temple and prays, "take my life, let my son live".

The Dolmen of Santa Marta, one of the pre-historic tombs that dot the landscape The region was occupied since pre-history, as evidenced by the proliferation of megalithic monuments, stone settlements and castros. This includes the Menhir of Luzim, a tall stone dating to an occupation of 3–4000 years B.C. Similarly, in the civil parish of Luzim, are the rock engravings that have existed for 3000 years. In addition, there are various rock forts (castros), subject of archaeological studies, such as the archaeological "city of the dead" in Citânia de Monte Mozinho. One of the largest in the Iberian Peninsula, it was the precursor to the Galician organized community of Cividade Gallaeci; the hill fort is dotted with traces of various cultures: Galician-Lusitanian, Roman, Visigoth and Moorish.

The mighty mage Ahghairon then overthrew the last of the War Lords and established a government based on wisdom instead of armed might, and he ruled the city with a group of masked Lords who were secretly selected to govern. When Ahghairon died 200 years later, his rule was followed by a brief period of anarchy, as powerful guildmasters attempted to gain sole control of the city, until Ahghairon's surviving fellow lords took steps to reestablish the rule of the Lords. The city grew rapidly, such that by 1248 DR both the City of the Dead—a sprawling cemetery complex—and the various trade guilds had been developed. The guildmasters seized control of the city soon afterward, ushering in a period of unrest and bitter conflict known as the Guildwars.

Rose wrote the season seven story Zen and the Art of Murder for the series Homicide: Life on the Street in 1993 and was one of the writers for the 2003 mini-series Kingpin. After becoming a fan of the Virgin New Adventures, Lloyd sent a proposal for an Eighth Doctor Adventure to BBC Books which eventually became the story The City of the Dead (BBC Books, 2001). This novel was highly regarded by both the readership and her contemporaries, and led to two further novels — Camera Obscura (BBC Books, 2002; winner of the 2002 Doctor Who Magazine Award) and The Algebra of Ice (BBC Books, 2004) — being published, the latter as part of the BBC's Past Doctor Adventures range. Following the popular reception for her novels, Rose also wrote an audio adventure for Big Finish Productions, Caerdroia (Big Finish, November 2004).

The site of Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery was a 440-acre farm located in rural Jefferson County between Denver and Golden which as purchased in the 1860’s by Bishop Joseph Projectus Machebeuf, Denver’s first resident bishop. Bishop Machebeuf later donated the land to the Catholic Diocese of Denver. Mt. Olivet Cemetery now includes 393 acres. Mt. Olivet Cemetery was consecrated on September 25, 1892 by Bishop Nicholas Chrysostom Matz. On that day, a special Union Pacific train left Denver Union Station carrying 1,500 people to Mt. Olivet for the cemetery consecration. Bishop Matz officiated at the dedication and described Mt. Olivet as the “new City of the Dead.”Monsignor Harley Schmitt (Mt. Gary Barnacle was born in Dover, England in 1959. He started playing in bands in and around the Dover area, with his father Bill Barnacle, his brothers Steve Barnacle and Pete Barnacle and their friend (Nick) Topper Headon. Then he moved, with his two brothers, to London in 1976 and began a career as a session musician. Barnacle performed the saxophone part in many songs and albums by The Clash. Early examples are "City of the Dead", B-side of "Complete Control", "1-2 Crush On You", the B-side of "Tommy Gun" released as a single on 24 November 1978, and their version of Booker T. & the M.G.'s' classic "Time Is Tight", released on the 1980 extended play Black Market Clash. Both songs can also be heard on the 1993 compilation album, Super Black Market Clash.

The very earliest beginnings of Diabolic started in 1996, when drummer Aantar Coates (Exmortis, Horror of Horrors, Unholy Ghost, Blastmasters) teamed up with guitarist Kelly McLauchlin (Pessimist, Unholy Ghost, Possessed) to record the very first 4-song Diabolic Demo. Although this demo was never officially released, and sent only to select contacts in the underground, it marked the beginning of success to follow for the band. By January 1997, Diabolic drummer/founder Aantar Coates had relocated to Tampa, Florida and after forming the first complete lineup, recorded and released the successful demo "City of the Dead". This demo immediately got the band noticed in the worldwide underground press and was later released as MCD on Fadeless Records. By 1998, Diabolic made their debut live appearance opening for Vader in Tampa, Florida followed by Milwaukee Metalfest XII.

The Barque of Dante (), also Dante and Virgil in Hell (Dante et Virgile aux enfers), is the first major painting by the French artist Eugène Delacroix, and is a work signalling the shift in the character of narrative painting, from Neo-Classicism towards Romanticism. The painting loosely depicts events narrated in canto eight of Dante's Inferno; a leaden, smoky mist and the blazing City of the Dead form the backdrop against which the poet Dante fearfully endures his crossing of the River Styx. As his barque ploughs through waters heaving with tormented souls, Dante is steadied by Virgil, the learned poet of Classical antiquity. Pictorially, the arrangement of a group of central, upright figures, and the rational arrangement of subsidiary figures in studied poses, all in horizontal planes, complies with the tenets of the cool and reflective Neo-Classicism that had dominated French painting for nearly four decades.

Jones was born in Manchester and began his music career as a studio arranger for Norrie Paramor, there he worked arranging music for The Zombies, Jim Dale, and Jonathan King. In the 1960s he established his own orchestra and began a career in film and television. He had earlier collaborated with Douglas Gamley on several film scores including Fire Down Below, Tom Thumb and The City of the Dead, and later wrote complete scores for films such as Two-Way Stretch, Dentist in the Chair and its sequel Dentist on the Job and in 1964 he was hired by the BBC to compose the music for Steptoe and Son, where he replaced Ron Grainer (who had left the series to concentrate on Doctor Who). For BBC Television, Jones composed and arranged the themes for It's Marty, and the sitcom Sykes which ran from 1972 until 1979.

Matt, Jamie and Richard arrived in Macau where they meet Han Shan-tung, who reveals himself as "The Master of the Mountain", the leader of the White Lotus Society, a Triad based in Macau and Hong Kong. Shan- tung explains that Scarlett has been taken prisoner by the Old Ones who plan to turn Hong Kong into a necropolis, a city of the dead, by using poisonous gases mixed with the pollution from mainland China that will suffocate and kill the residents there. Shan-Tung believes Scarlett is a reincarnate of a goddess, Lin Mo, and has had his people watch over her all her life, including sending her to England. He agrees to help them after affirming that Matt and Jamie are indeed part of the Five with a test, having Matt climb a sword ladder, which he survives, despite cutting his hand open.

William Edward Charles Wootton Abney (7 January 1921 – 9 August 1997) played Reverend Copley on Coronation Street in 1977, and Jim Lorimer in 1980. His other television credits include The Adventures of William Tell, Crossroads, Special Branch, Play for Today, All Creatures Great and Small, Robin's Nest and The Return of Sherlock Holmes. The son of Henry Charles Wootton Abney, of the landed gentry family of Abney of Measham Hall, Derbyshire, by his wife, Janet Bentley Littlejohn, Abney was educated at Cranleigh School and the Central School of Speech and Drama. As a film actor, Abney appeared in Horrors of the Black Museum (1959), Never Take Sweets from a Stranger (1960), Two-Way Stretch, (1960), Cone of Silence (1960), The City of the Dead (1960), Hitler: The Last Ten Days (1973), The Legacy (1979), North Sea Hijack (1980) and Curse of the Pink Panther (1983).

The Matabele tribe had banned trespass on the sacred ground of the city of the dead, but they had long since been driven from the area as men of greed and power swept through the continent without conscience. They find and claim Harkness mine and go on to be part of the installation of railways, telegraph lines and pave the way to civilization. However, the Matabele tribe, who have been conquered by British settlers, and remaining natives in Africa have not forgotten their heritage or their pride. They rise up again to battle the white man and his incessant greed, kill Mungo St John as he tries to save Robyn Ballantyne and murder Cathy, the pregnant wife of Ralph Ballantyne; but are driven back once more to the wilderness by Ralph and a group of men that become known as the Ballantyne Scouts in exploits similar to those of Frederick Russell Burnham's assassination of Mlimo.

He has also contributed to Cahiers du Cinema, Video Watchdog, CineAction, The Dark Side (magazine), The Movie Book of the Western, the 2008 edition of The International Film Guide, the Senses of Cinema website and Defining Moments in Movies. He has worked on DVD and Blu-ray releases in various capacities, recording commentary tracks for the Masters of Cinema discs of Nosferatu and Tabu, and (in collaboration with Abel Ferrara) the Arrow discs of The Driller Killer and The Addiction, as well as writing sleeve notes for many films, including The Complete Buster Keaton Short Films, Ms. 45, La Notte, Obsession (1976 film), Thief, White of the Eye, The Long Goodbye, Blue Collar, Hardcore, Castle Keep, Wolf, Knightriders and Les Diaboliques. Stevens has appeared in several documentaries and can be seen interviewing Christopher Lee on VCI's DVD of The City of the Dead. He co- authored the English subtitles for F. J. Ossang's Dharma Guns (2010), and was on the jury at the Oldenburg International Film Festival in 2007.

Between 1840 and 1910, the area of Istanbul stretching northward from Taksim to Şişli was transformed from open countryside to densely inhabited residential settlement. Early 19th century maps of Istanbul show much of the area in this direction taken up by the non-Muslim burial grounds of the Grand Champs des Morts, with the Frankish section directly in the path of the main route of expansion. The urban development in the Ottoman capital, influenced by Western models, led to the closure of the Grand Champs des Morts - Istanbul's `City of the Dead', a world-renowned necropolis, which had provided inspiration, as well as an ideal, for the cemetery reformers of Europe. Already by 1842, this burial ground was being whittled down, as a contemporary account by Reverend William Goodell attests. One of the founders of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions to the Armenians at Istanbul, Goodell had lost his nine-year-old son, Constantine Washington, to typhoid fever in 1841 and buried him in the Frankish section of the Grand Champs des Morts.

The United States India Political Action Committee said in a statement that "[w]ith multiple reports of hate-fueled attacks against people of Indian origin from across the U.S., the show characterizes Hinduism as cannibalistic, which is a bizarre way of looking at the third largest religion in the world." Vamsee Juluri, professor of media studies at the University of San Francisco, described the episode as "reckless, racist, and anti-immigrant", while Aseem Shukla of the Hindu American Foundation accused Aslan of being "poorly informed", circulating "common stereotypical misconceptions" about Hinduism and indulging in "religion porn" "to grab ratings", with the "most clichéd, spurious conflations of the Hindu religion with the caste system". US Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard compared the show to "touring a zoo". The show has also been criticized for saying that Varanasi was called "the city of the dead", calling the immersion of ashes "dumping", presenting the Aghors as an exception in their struggle against the caste system, and claims he misunderstood the distinction between Varna and Jāti, and the notion of God in Hinduism.

A romantic comedy retelling of the story of Resident Evil 2, centered on Claire, Leon and Ada, was released by Chingwin Publishing in the two-issue Taiwanese comic Èlíng Gǔbǎo II in 1999. Claire is also prominently featured in S.D. Perry's 1999 novels Resident Evil: City of the Dead (a novelization of Resident Evil 2) and Resident Evil Code Veronica (a novelization of the game of the same title and the last book in the series), as well as in the 1998–1999 manhua Shēnghuà Wēijī 2 ("Biological Crisis 2"), and in the comic book adaptation series Resident Evil by Capcom (1998) and Resident Evil: Code Veronica by WildStorm (2002). In Perry's 1999 original-story novel Resident Evil: Underworld, Claire, Leon, Rebecca Chambers and several S.T.A.R.S. officers infiltrate an Umbrella facility in Utah to uncover their secrets. She is also one of main characters in Naoki Serizawa's manga Biohazard: heavenly island, serialized in Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine in 2015, in which she is a TerraSave investigator on an isolated South American island. Claire appeared in George A. Romero's Japanese TV commercial for Resident Evil 2Official UK PlayStation Magazine Platinum Special 1999 p. 34.

Horror Channel airs a wide range of films; aside from horror, films of mixed genres with horror themes including sci-fi, thriller, comedy, action and exploitation often screen on the channel. Originally, as The Horror Channel, it premiered a number of classic films including Carnival of Souls, The City of the Dead, The Killer Shrews, and Lady of Burlesque, while it became known for its showing of B movie classics such as Bloody Birthday, Troll 2, Brian Damage, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, Frogs, and Slugs. European cinema became notable during the early years of the channel with films including The Devil's Nightmare, Nude for Satan, Black Magic Rites, The Sinful Nuns of Saint Valentine and several films from French director Jean Rollin like Requiem for a Vampire, The Iron Rose, The Grapes of Death and The Living Dead Girl which were initially shown as part of "The Jean Rollin Season". Additional early films consisted of the Troma films Mother's Day and The Toxic Avenger film series, with others such as the Sleepaway Camp trilogy, the Hellraiser trilogy, Pumpkinhead, Flowers in the Attic and Turkey Shoot.

Bernard Doe of Metal Forces magazine referred to them as "the fastest band around". Straight Ahead (specifically their output as N.Y.C. Mayhem) was a significant influence on Stormtroopers of Death, as well as the genres of death metal, grindcore and black metal due to early use of death growls and heavy riffing on tracks from 1985's "We Stand" such as "Necropolis (City Of The Dead)" and "Deathwish". Jeffrey Walker of English band Carcass has cited N.Y.C. Mayhem as a major influence on the band's early grindcore sound, Shane Embury (later of Napalm Death) and Mitch Dickinson (later of Heresy)'s band Warhammer were heavily influenced by N.Y.C. Mayhem's early demo tapes, according to Matt Olivo of grindcore band Repulsion, N.Y.C. Mayhem were one the bands that inspired them to play at the speed they did and American grindcore band Brutal Truth covered Straight Ahead's song "White Clam Sauce" on their 2011 album "End Time". Charlie Benante of Anthrax has said that the first time that he ever heard blast beats was from one of N.Y.C. Mayhem's demo tapes, inspiring him to learn the technique himself.
