The deal was contingent on full approval by the CRTC of the CTVglobemedia takeover of CHUM. With CRTC approval being contingent on the sale of the Citytv stations instead, Rogers bought the Citytv stations and CTV kept the A-Channel stations. The takeover transaction was completed on June 22. With the CHUM acquisition, CTV became the only English-language private television broadcaster offering Ottawa news coverage; it owns both CHRO and CJOH-TV, which compete only with the CBC's CBOT in offering local news.

In Lisa's room, Homer sees her entry for the science fair, which is a history of nuclear physics and a scale model of the first nuclear reactor. However, Martin shows them his project, a childlike robot named CHUM. With Lisa sure to lose, Homer decides to help her by stealing some plutonium from the power plant and building a small working Class II plutonium fission reactor. After showing it to Lisa, she is horrified and alerts Marge to the danger, who tells Homer to get rid of the "irradiating whatsit".

In 1996, it became one of the three hospitals to make up the Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM), along with the Hôpital Notre-Dame du CHUM and the Hôpital Saint-Luc du CHUM. With the completion of the CHUM megahospital campus adjacent to Hôpital Saint-Luc in 2017, the Hôtel-Dieu's patients were to move to the new facility as of November 5, 2017. The Hôtel-Dieu was initially slated for closure, but will ultimately remain open as a large-scale urgent care clinic. The present site contains a museum of the hospital's long history.

Jack (Alec Baldwin) invites Liz (Tina Fey) to a Republican Party fundraiser as his "chum" with the understanding that she will keep her liberal politics to herself in exchange for access to the all-you-can-eat shrimp bar. Once at the party, Jack provokes Liz into an anti-conservative rant, which Jack uses as bait to get the attendees to contribute more to the Romney campaign. Realizing Jack has manipulated her, Liz is furious and receives a lecture from Jack about the power of money over ideas. Determined to prove him wrong, Liz decides to promote the Democratic Party through TGS, using Lutz's grand nephew Kellan Lutz as a guest star on TGS, to promote her liberal political views.
