By July 1964, Roger Miller's monster hit "Dang Me" had run its course in radio, and "Chug-a-Lug" was hitting hard and fast. Concerned about offending their core country audience, Miller and his producer Jerry Kennedy had initially resisted releasing "Chug-a-Lug" as a single, and an alternate version of the song was produced with the word "wine" edited out. But head of Smash Records Charles Fach knew that Miller's ode to forbidden liquid pleasures would be a hit. "Charles was the one who wanted 'Chug-a- Lug,'" said Kennedy.

Stephen Erlewine had a negative view and critiqued the album's attempt to sound mainstream. He singles out three tracks as exceptions: "Mister Moon", "Doodle Loop" and "Honky Tonk Women". Joe McEwen of Rolling Stones critiqued the song choices and the attempt to please the commercial market. He said two tracks are in-line with the band's style: "Doodle Loop" and "Chug-a-Lug", and had a positive view of the title track "Trick Bag".

The project was financed by Sony/ATV Music Publishing as a means of making extra money from older songs in the publishing company's catalog. Richard helped select the songs for this album, which included three other Hank Williams covers, as well as Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone," The Beatles' "I'm Down," and Patsy Cline's "Walkin' After Midnight," among others.

Flying Under the Radar is the second compilation album by the American country rock/southern rock band The Kentucky Headhunters. It was released in 2006 via the CBuJ Ent. label. The album includes seven tracks from their 2000 album Songs from the Grass String Ranch, and two each from 2003's Soul and 2005's Big Boss Man. Also included are four new tracks: the newly written "Go to Heaven" and "Ashes of Love", as well as a cover of Stoney Cooper and Wilma Lee Cooper's "Big Midnight Special" and a re-recording of the Roger Miller song "Chug-a-Lug", which the band previously covered on Big Boss Man.

The original flavors, and their names, were Goofy Grape, Rootin' Tootin' Raspberry, Freckle-Face Strawberry, Loud-Mouth Lime, Injun Orange, and Chinese Cherry. These last two, being offensive ethnic stereotypes, were soon renamed to Jolly-Olly Orange and Choo Choo Cherry. Additional flavors were added later, including Captain Black Cherry, Chilly Cherry Cola, Lefty Lemonade (and Lefty Lemon-Lime), Loud Mouth Punch, Pistol Pink Lemonade, Rah-Rah Root beer, Rudi Tutti-Frutti, Tart Lil' Imitation Lemonade, Tart 'N' Tangy Lemon, With-It Watermelon, Top Banana, and Chug-a- Lug-a Chocolate, the latter intended to be mixed with milk rather than water. The mix was sweetened with calcium cyclamate.

Roger and Out is the debut studio album of country music artist Roger Miller, which was released under the Smash Records label in 1964. The second release did not chart but the first reached #3 on country album charts and #37 on the Billboard 200, and was ultimately certified as Gold by the RIAA. Two singles were released from the album including "Chug-a-Lug" and "Dang Me." Both peaked in the top 10 on the Country, Billboard Hot 100, and Canadian charts, with the latter handing Miller the first #1 hit of his recording career. The album took only two days to record, and did not include all material cut from the session, however Roger and Out was the first release of material from this period.

One year later, CBuJ Entertainment released the compilation Flying Under the Radar, which comprised selections from Songs from the Grass String Ranch, Soul and Big Boss Man, as well as two new songs and a remix of "Chug-a-Lug." Kenney left the band around 2008 to take a job as the technical director of a theatre in Glasgow, Kentucky, and Doug has since taken over on bass guitar. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of Pickin' on Nashville, the band released a live album entitled Authorized Bootleg: Live – Agara Ballroom – Cleveland, Ohio. It was followed in October 2011 by Dixie Lullabies on the Red Dirt label, which the band recorded at the Practice House after touring with Jamey Johnson.

The Grammy Award for Best Country Album is an award presented at the Grammy Awards, a ceremony that was established in 1958 and originally called the Gramophone Awards, to recording artists for quality albums in the country music genre. Honors in several categories are presented at the ceremony annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States to "honor artistic achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence in the recording industry, without regard to album sales or chart position". The award was first presented under the name of Best Country & Western Album in 1966 to Roger Miller for Dang Me/Chug-A-Lug and was discontinued the following year. In 1995 the category was revived and received its current denomination of Best Country Album.
