It is revealed that Renji is a childhood friend of Rukia's; their relationship was strained by Rukia's adoption into the Kuchiki family and Renji had striven to prove himself as a shinigami in order to match Rukia's new social standing and to be acknowledged by Rukia's adoptive brother, Byakuya. Ichigo soon arrives in Soul Society to continue his attempted rescue of Rukia. Renji, feeling Ichigo is to blame for Rukia's sentence, goes to fight him.

Sometime later, Rachel runs off for a few days without telling anyone, leaving Rodney, Doris and Lexie all feeling worried. Lexie cancels her dinner plans with Jeremy and says she is going over to Doris's house to talk and comfort her, but when Jeremy checks up on her he finds her car at Rodney's instead. Feeling angry that Lexie had once again lied went to her house and waited outside for her to get back. When she returns he confronts her about Rodney and Lexie explains that she went over to her grandmothers like she said and then decided to console Rodney.

In the second episode, "Meet Big Data", Agent Topple checks up on how Winters is settling into her new job at "Special Projects". Topple asks Winters about her surveillance of e-mails and in turn reveals his lack of understanding with modern computing. The conversation then trails off into the secret history of how fake mustaches were involved with the United States' national security.
