"Six Charlies in Search of An Author" is an episode of the British radio comedy, The Goon Show. It was first broadcast on 26 December 1956. The title is a parody of the play Six Characters in Search of an Author, by Luigi Pirandello. While the plot revolves around the common scenario of Neddie Seagoon being blackmailed by Hercules Grytpype-Thynne and Count Jim Moriarty, its development appears to blur the lines between the writer and the characters.
In 2008, Rory released his official solo debut album "God Bless the big bang". It received a positive reaction with Hotpress magazine declaring it "a Triumphant return" giving it 4 out of 5 stars, it also received album of the week from Today FM, The Sunday World and BBC Ulster. Rory released 2 singles from the Album and did 2 short tours of Ireland. However he had since become resident musician in Charlies Bar Lanzarote and found it difficult to go and play in front of 50 people in small venues around Ireland losing all his money on Petrol and Hotels when there were already 150 Irish people coming into Charlies bar in Lanzarote every night of the week. In 2010 Rory recorded some new original material with legendary Irish trad player Sharon Shannon (also a reworking of The Pogues classic "Fiesta" with Shane MacGowan), out of these sessions Rory had recorded a comedy demo song called "Ryanair Blues", it was leaked to Irish Radio and became a surprise online hit.

Boulders litter the streambed of Porters Creek in Greenbrier The ridges surrounding Greenbrier are among the highest in the Appalachian range. To the east is the Guyot massif, which rises to over 6,000 feet (1,829 m) for long stretches. To the west is the Le Conte massif, which culminates in a 6,593-foot (2,009 m) summit. The ridge immediately to the south connecting the two massifs, known as "the Sawteeth," consists of a series of jagged, steep cliffs, the most well-known of which spans the northern face of Charlies Bunion.
The Beefsteak Charlie's restaurant chain was started in early 1976 by restaurateur Larry Ellman, whose Steak & Brew chain (part of the Longchamps organization) had filed for Chapter 11 reorganization in fall 1975: Steak & Brew, Inc., was renamed Beefsteak Charlies, Inc., many Steak & Brew locations were converted into Beefsteak Charlie's. (some locations are identical) As the chain first filed for a trademark on the "Beefsteak Charlie's" name in March 1976, and no prior trademark existed, it appears there was no direct connection to the namesake restaurant which inspired the chain.
Faroese singer Fríðbjørg Jensen (fo) has recorded the song as "Kom Og Set Teg Her". The Finnish rendering "Merimies, kotimaasi on meri" was first recorded by Ritva Mustonen (fi) in 1960 and recorded in 1961 by Laila Kinnunen. "Merimies..." has since been remade by Eino Grön for his 1983 album Merellä ja Kotisatamassa, by Lea Laven for her 1988 album Bluebird, and by the Charlies (fi) for their 1999 album Kauneimmat Hetket. In 1963 Patrick Jaque a Belgian singer, resident in Spain, recorded a Spanish-language version of "Seeman..." titled "Marinero".
"a brand-new pack of Charlies are coming at you, you can smell their rotten fish-sauce breath") "Charlie" was military slang for a Viet Cong soldier. The quoted lines from "Weapons Training" are from Dawe (1993) p. 137 makes him seem like an exaggerated cartoon-like figure. However, he goes on to say that Dawe maintained he had not completely invented them: "Many [of them] were addressed to me or other members of the squad of RAAF recruits I was part of in 1959."Bruce Dawe quoted in Haskell (2002) p.

Efforts by the New York Restoration Project are underway to revive the waterfront in an area that historically suffers from high asthma rates.
Following the end of academic instruction, API students hold a social event known as Flight Suit Friday at the Mustin Beach officers club. From that point onward, the students are authorized the wear of flight suits (with service-specific garrison cap) as their daily uniform instead of Navy service khakis/Marine service Charlies/Coast Guard tropical blue. Prior to its disestablishment, Aviation Officer Candidate School (AOCS) at NAS Pensacola incorporated the entire API syllabus into the nominally 15-week AOCS curriculum. AOCS students were commissioned only after they completed API requirements.
Members of the court are elected to six-year terms, with three justices elected in each even-numbered year in a nonpartisan election with a top-two primary. Judicial elections in Washington, including for the Supreme Court, are frequently uncontested and incumbents typically win reelection. The last time a justice lost reelection was in 2010 when Charlies Wiggins defeated Richard B. Sanders, who had previously defeated Rosselle Pekelis in 1995. When chief justice Keith M. Callow lost to Charles W. Johnson in 1990, it was the first time in 40 years an incumbent had lost.
When he received the x-rays, Charlie saw the man's toes "just doubled up" on themselves. Upon receiving the finished boots, the client said "it was the first time in his life he ever had comfort in his feet," Charlie recalled. From Deacon Proudfoot, a Hells Angels president with no toes on his left foot, to Texas literary legend J. Frank Dobie, with two club feet – the only time Charlie, in a "life of bootmaking," had seen "double Lord Byrons," in Charlie's memorable description—people walked better with "Charlies" on their feet.Billy Porterfield, Austin American-Statesman, n.d.

Thomas was converted to a relief pitcher in , and went 11-6 with a 3.16 ERA and six saves for the triple A Charleston Charlies to earn a call up to Houston that September. The only two MLB teams Thomas faced in were the last place Atlanta Braves, and the eventual National League champion Los Angeles Dodgers. In his two games against the Braves, Thomas blew a save opportunity while surrendering four hits and two earned runs in 2.1 innings pitched. In his two games against the Dodgers, he pitched four innings and gave up just one hit while striking out two.
The county's three major lakes were created in the early 20th century by Georgia Power for hydroelectric power generation. The three lakes today provide recreation as well as power generation: Lake Burton covers or 4.33 sq mi and has of shoreline, Lake Rabun covers and has of shoreline, and Lake Seed covers and has of shoreline. The county also boasts a large number of trout streams, including the Tallulah River and its tributaries, Coleman River and Charlies Creek. Charlies Sumner Bird was born on August 15, 1855 in Walpole, Massachusetts to Francis William Bird and Abby Frances. In 1877 he graduated from Harvard and Bird joined the Bird Corporation, although he had initially wanted to go into law, (then named "Bird and Son") and expanded the company's mills to Rhode Island and Canada and was one of the first to adopt the eight-hour work week. In 1880 he married Anna J. Child and later had four children with her. In 1884 he entered politics and support New York Governor Grover Cleveland for president and again in 1888 and 1892.
However, this oft-quoted statistic is a bit misleading, as the trail contains many dips and subsequent rises over its eight mile (13 km) course. Still, the high elevation provides for a much cooler hike, making the trail more attractive in summer months. The Appalachian Trail between Newfound Gap and its Boulevard Trail junction is rather gentle, providing some peeks through the brush of the surrounding mountains. At the junction, the Appalachian Trail continues east to Charlies Bunion and the eastern Smokies, whereas the Boulevard Trail heads north across the flank of Mount Kephart en route to Le Conte.
Kison credited Harvey Haddix, a coach he had in the Gulf Coast League, as his most influential mentor. While pitching for the Waterbury Pirates of the Double-A Eastern League in 1970, Kison was picked by Sports Illustrated to be the subject of an article (released the following year) on life in the minor leagues. He had a 4–4 record at the time; he would not lose another game for Waterbury in 1970. An infected tendon in his pitching hand kept him from throwing in spring training in 1971, but he won 10 of 12 starts for the Charleston Charlies of the Triple-A International League.
There are many Prince Charlies Caves in the Highlands, caves where Charles Edward Stuart was said to have sheltered when on the run from the Duke of Cumberland, after the defeat at the Battle of Culloden. There is one such cave supposedly located on Meilchan, a small green hillock, overlooking Loch nan Uamh in Druimindarroch in Inverness-shire, Scotland. However, there have been many other possible locations suggested. Another cave which Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed in with Ewen MacPherson of Cluny for two weeks in September of 1746 before his final departure for France on 20 September was located around Ben Alder, for which several actual locations have been suggested.
Portadown had no regular army presence but maintained a small Territorial Army base at Charles Street (known as "Charlies Walls") which housed HQ Company of the 4th Battalion Royal Irish Rangers. Although this did house small numbers of troops in the early part of the Troubles the main military presence was from units based outside Portadown, such as Kitchen Hill Barracks in Lurgan. The formation of the 11th Battalion, Ulster Defence Regiment saw a small barracks being built on the Southern edge of town at Mahon Road on a greenfield site. This was dubbed "Fort Mahon" by the Ulster Defence Regiment (UDR) but was officially known as the Mahon Road Barracks.
Clausen and Anderson were deliberately vague in detailing the reasons for TOFOP's hiatus, other than the fact that a particular company employing Clausen had objected to the content of the podcast. In January 2013 the hiatus was revealed to have been requested by the Seven Network after Clausen had received a starring role as Zac MacGuire in popular Australian soap opera Home and Away. The show returned in February 2013 under the name FOFOP, a reference to a previous episode and the television show Fringe. However, due to contractual obligations the show returned without Clausen, and instead with Anderson and one or more guests, nicknamed "guest-Charlies".
Lamb, however, spent most of the year in Triple-A, where he won eight games and saved 11 more for the Charleston Charlies of the International League. He was brought back to Pittsburgh in September as rosters expanded and hurled two scoreless relief appearances, but was not on the Pirates' postseason roster. Lamb then spent all of 1972 with Charleston, and struggled to a 5–9 record and a poor 4.96 ERA. But he turned things around in 1973, winning all six decisions with 12 saves and a 1.66 ERA in 31 games for Charleston, earning one last promotion to the Pirates in midsummer.
The view looking northeast from Charlies Bunion, with the Porters Creek Valley below A few days after the 1929 cloudburst, a group of mountaineers led by Horace Kephart climbed to the crest of the Central Smokies to inspect the damage. When they reached the now-barren western flank of the Sawteeth, Charlie Conner, a mountain guide from Oconaluftee, removed his shoe, revealing a badly-swollen foot. Upon seeing this, Kephart was said to have remarked, "I'm going to get this put on a Government map for you."Michael Frome, Strangers In High Places: The Story of the Great Smoky Mountains (Knoxville: University of Tennessee Press, 1994), 110-111.
He returned to the game as a manager in the farm systems of the Cardinals, Braves, Mets, Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers in the 1970s and 1980s. He managed in Triple-A with the Tidewater Tides, Richmond Braves, Oklahoma City 89ers and Charleston Charlies, and among his achievements won championships in the Appalachian League, Texas League and the California League. During his 1977 campaign with the Mets, he was the third-base coach on the staff of Joe Frazier and Joe Torre and, the following year, served under Bobby Cox in Atlanta. He was named to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, the London (Ontario) Sports Hall of Fame, and the Rochester Red Wings Hall of Fame.
Susana Polo of The Mary Sue referred to the character as "one of the radder characters" in the series. Cam Shea of IGN named Marceline's introduction in "Evicted!" as the fourth best moment in the series' first season. He wrote that "sure, in this episode she evicts Finn and Jake from their home ... but hey, this is the first time we meet her and she's awesome." io9 writer Charlies Jane Anders wrote that Marceline's—as well as the Ice King's—appearance in "I Remember You" was "one of the most intense things I've seen in ages." She praised Marceline's development from a "pretty one-note villain" to a type of person that "we sort of knew". CartoonNetwork.co.
He was replaced with Wilhelm Unverzagt, director of the Berlin's Museum for Prehistory and Early History. Joined by Sievers and Herbert Jankuhn, Heinrich Himmler's close associate, Unverzagt began targeted digging, searching for the material proof to confirm the German idea of transforming Belgrade into Prinzeugenstadt. He specifically searched for the monumental gate at the entry into the Lower Town, built during the Nicolas Doxat's rebuilding of Belgrade under the orders of Prince Eugene of Savoy in the 1720s and 1730s. The gate was named after the Holy Roman Emperor from that period, Charlies VI. Already on 15 July 1941, secretary in the Reich Ministry of the Interior Wilhelm Stuckart sent memo, asking for Belgrade to be transformed into the "Reich's Fortress".
Greg Irons (September 29, 1947 - November 14, 1984) was a poster artist, underground cartoonist, animator and tattoo artist. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he moved to San Francisco, California, in 1967, where he soon found work doing posters for Bill Graham at The Fillmore Auditorium. After working on the film Yellow Submarine, he returned to work for Graham Productions and soon branched out into album covers and comix work for the Print Mint, Last Gasp Eco-Funnies, and other local underground publishers. Irons' collaborations with writer Tom Veitch in the early 1970s (the creative team known as "GI/TV") included such titles as Deviant Slice Funnies, Legion of Charlies, and contributions to many other underground comix, including Skull Comix and Slow Death.
The Cavalier was initially offered at 30 ft long by 8 ft wide to fit any suitable underfloor engined chassis. As was normal with Harrington the previous Wayfarer Mark 4 coach remained available (if requested) for the next couple of years, but it was clear the advantage was with the Cavalier. By the time Lloyds of Nuneaton's 3857UE was shown at the 1960 Commercial Motor Show at Earls Court 68 Cavaliers had been sold to seven BET fleets, ten independents and local charity St Dunstan's Home for the Blind. These were mainly on AEC Reliance, but Charlies Cars of Bournemouth took six Albion Aberdonian, East Yorkshire Motor Services took five on Leyland Tiger Cub and Ellen Smith of Rochdale took the sole Leyland Leopard.
Inspired by the success of reruns of shows such as Full House and George Lopez with young audiences, Vaupen and Baker turned to family sitcoms. "We wanted to do a show about a family, to bring back a family sitcom and make it about a real family, not wizards, nobody's a pop star, nobody has a TV show", said Vaupen, referring to Wizards of Waverly Place, Hannah Montana, and Sonny with a Chance. Veteran writer-producer Dan Staley (Cheers) later joined the show as executive producer. Disney's Gary Marsh said "because most network television abandoned the traditional sitcom, Disney has been able to snatch up a lot of experienced talent for behind the camera, including executive producer Dan Staley..." Good Luck Charlies central family, the Duncans from Denver, Colorado, was carefully crafted for broad appeal.
Initially Goalen worked as a couture model and accepted every modelling commission, but later was to make her fee four times that of other models and restrict her appearances in order to be more 'exclusive'. Her elegant wasp- waisted shape was the perfect fit for the post-war 'New Look' fashions and she had what Vogue has described as the "mink and diamonds" look, thanks in part to her gamine short haircut (later more bouffant), arched and elongated eyebrows and high cheekbones. She said: "I was seven and a half stone and my measurements were: charlies 33, waist 18 – yes really – and hips 31". Early on in her career, she became a favourite of Vogue photographer Clifford Coffin and was also to work with leading fashion names such as Norman Parkinson and Anthony Denney.
Rose worked for CBS News from 1984 to 1990 as the anchor of CBS News Nightwatch, the network's first late-night news broadcast, which often featured Rose doing one-on-one interviews with notable people in a format similar to that of his later PBS show. The Nightwatch broadcast of Rose's interview with Charles Manson won a News & Documentary Emmy Award in 1987. Two winners: "Charles Manson" segment, The CBS News Nightwatch (March 7, 1986, CBS), Carol Ross Joynt, producer, Charlies [sic] Rose, reporter/correspondent; A Promise (1986, NBC), Mike Mosher, producer, Lucky Severson, correspondent. In 1990, Rose left CBS to serve as anchor of Personalities, a Fox TV-produced syndicated program, but six weeks into production and unhappy with the show's soundbite-driven populist tabloid- journalism approach to stories, Rose left.

A Nash & Thompson FN-20 turret fitted to an Avro Lancaster, Imperial War Museum Duxford (2006) The purpose of the tail gunner was principally to act as a lookout for attacking enemy fighters, particularly upon British bombers operating at nighttime. As these aircraft operated individually instead of being part of a bombing formation, the bombers' first reaction to an attacking night fighter was to engage in radical evasive maneuvers such as a corkscrew roll; firing guns in defense was of secondary importance. The British slang term for tail gunners was "Tail-end Charlies",In the USAAF, the term was adopted as the last bomber in a unit formation, or the last unit formation in a larger bomber stream, both considered highly vulnerable. while in the Luftwaffe they were called Heckschwein ("tail-end pigs").
