In her distinguished career Bruzek-Kohler has served as Charge Nurse, National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland; Staff Nurse, U.S. Naval Regional Medical Center, Naples, Italy; Ambulatory Care Coordinator, Naval Hospital Newport, R.I.; Director of Academic Support Department, Naval School of Health Sciences, Bethesda; Head of Enlisted Training Programs, Naval Health Sciences Education and Training Center; Director of Nursing/Acting Executive Officer, Naval Hospital Great Lakes, Illinois; Director of Nursing, U.S. Naval Hospital, Guam; Executive Officer, Naval Hospital, Pensacola, Florida; Commanding Officer, Naval Hospital, Lemoore, California; and Assistant Deputy Chief for Medical Operations Support, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Washington, D.C.

While there, she joined a ready naval reserve unit in Detroit, Michigan, in 1948. Ordered to return to active naval service, she reported in June 1951, as a ward nurse at the Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Virginia. Transferred in September 1951 to the Naval Hospital Corps School, Portsmouth, she was a Nursing Instructor there until October 1956, when she became Interservice Education Coordinatorat the Naval Horpital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. From June 1958 to May 1961 she served as Nurse Programs Officer at the Naval Recruiting Station, Chicago, Illinois, after which she had duty as Charge Nurse at the U. S. Naval Station Hospital, Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines.

In some settings, LPNs/LVNs have opportunities for advancement, including the possibility of becoming credentialed in a certain area (such as IV therapy, gerontology, long-term care and pharmacology) or of becoming a charge nurse, responsible for overseeing the work of other LPNs and various unlicensed assistive personnel, such as nursing assistants. Some LPNs/LVNs choose to undergo further education and become registered nurses. LPN-to-RN training programs ("bridge programs") exist for this purpose. These include further classroom study to obtain at least an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) and clinical practice followed by another exam, the National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN).

During his first shift, David managed to impress consultants Connie Beauchamp and Dylan Keogh (Amanda Mealing and William Beck), despite having previously concerned Dylan by his lack of speech. David dislikes people calling him 'Dave' and is frustrated when consultant Elle Gardner repeatedly does this, but charge nurse Charlie Fairhead (Derek Thompson) reassures him that she is only messing with him. David worked with Robyn Miller (Amanda Henderson) on various patients and begins to warm to her and so, he is devastated when he overhears Robyn saying how hard he is to work with. They worked together and brought a couple together, leading them to create a mortality café.

George Rainsford portrays specialty registrar Ethan Hardy, who is later promoted to consultant and acting clinical lead, while Crystal Yu plays speciality registrar Lily Chao. Chelsea Halfpenny appears as Alicia Munroe, a doctor undergoing the second year of foundation training and later a specialty registrar in emergency medicine. Charles Venn portrays clinical nurse manager Jacob Masters, who later resigns to become a senior staff nurse, whilst Derek Thompson stars as senior charge nurse and emergency nurse practitioner Charlie Fairhead, who later becomes clinical nurse manager. Cathy Shipton appears as sister, who later becomes senior sister, and senior midwife Lisa "Duffy" Duffin, while Amanda Henderson, Azuka Oforka and Jason Durr play staff nurses Robyn Miller, Louise Tyler and David Hide.

Sir Jonathan Elliott Asbridge is an English nurse who was the first president of the UK's Nursing and Midwifery Council and a registrant member for England (Nursing). His first introduction to the caring profession was as a St John Ambulance Cadet at Cardiff Castle Division, Cardiff, South Wales. He studied to be a state registered nurse at the Nightingale School, St Thomas' Hospital, London, and gained a diploma in nursing at Swansea University. He began his career as a staff nurse and charge nurse in critical care, then senior nurse an in-patient manager at Singleton Hospital in 1983 before moving to Addenbrooke's Hospital where, after a period as general manager, he moved into a role of corporate responsibility as director of clinical care service.

Most of the cast from series 25 carried over to the new series. These were senior charge nurse Charlie Fairhead, played by Derek Thompson, consultants Nick Jordan, Zoe Hanna and Dylan Keogh (Michael French, Sunetra Sarker and William Beck), trust grade doctor Ruth Winters (Georgia Taylor), Core Training 2 doctor Lenny Lyons (Steven Miller), clinical nurse manager Tess Bateman (Suzanne Packer), staff nurses Jay Faldren and Linda Andrews (Ben Turner and Christine Tremarco), paramedics Kathleen "Dixie" Dixon and Jeff Collier (Jane Hazlegrove and Matt Bardock), porter Mackenzie "Big Mac" Chalker (Charles Dale) and receptionist Noel Garcia (Tony Marshall). Series 26 saw the brief addition to the cast of Gemma Atkinson (formerly Lisa Hunter in Hollyoaks) and Dhaffer L'Abidine (previously Marcel Sabatier in Dream Team). as paramedics Tamzin Bayle and Omar Nasri; their characters were written out early in the series, but Atkinson made two further brief returns, one in series 27 and one that stretched from late series 28 until early series 29.

Timmy was one of the many special County General ER staff members that was in the show's 2-hour pilot episode. Halfway into the show's first season he disappeared without any explanation. Years later in season 13 he was brought back into the show and resumed his position as a desk clerk on the staff of County General's ER. It was explained in his return to the show in season 13 as to why he left County he said it was because he had felt trapped in Chicago and needed to do something new, so he left to travel the world. Later in the season he went on a cruise with Charge Nurse Samantha Taggart's grandmother Gracie and even though the cruise was only supposed to last 1 week they ended up gone for 2 months which he explained was because they went to Singapore and they also later got stuck at the Cambodian border.
