William Joseph McMurray (February 26, 1882 - January 26, 1945) was an American baseball catcher in the pre-Negro leagues. He played most of his seasons for the St. Paul Colored Gophers and the West Baden Sprudels. He played with many popular players of the day, including George Shively, Candy Jim Taylor, Chappie Johnson, Dick Wallace, and William Binga.

George Hopkins (born 1858) was an American baseball pitcher and second baseman in the pre-Negro leagues. He played many seasons for the Chicago Unions, and for Iowa's Algona Brownies and Minnesota's Minneapolis Keystones. Hopkins played with many popular players of the day, including Dangerfield Talbert, Henry W. Moore, Chappie Johnson, Albert Toney, and Harry Hyde.

Albert Toney (March 3, 1879 - October 26, 1931) was an American baseball shortstop in the pre-Negro leagues. He played most seasons for Chicago teams such as Chicago Union Giants, Leland Giants, and Chicago Giants. Toney played with many popular players of the day, including Rube Foster, Dangerfield Talbert, Henry W. Moore, Chappie Johnson, William Binga, Walter Ball.

Watkin Tudor Jones (born 26 September 1974), better known by his stage name Ninja, is a South African rapper, songwriter, record producer, and director. Jones is part of the rap-rave group Die Antwoord. Jones also has had a number of acting roles, including a self-styled role as Ninja in the 2015 Neill Blomkamp film Chappie.

Daniel "Chappie" James Jr. started his career in the early 1940s at Tuskegee, joining the Army Air Corps in July 1943. After the war ended, James stayed in what became the Air Force and flew missions in both Korea and Vietnam. In 1969, James was put in command of Wheelus Air Base outside of Tripoli. Four Tuskegee airmen went on to become generals.

Thomas Henry Sargent (21 November 1894 – 7 May 1963), known by his stage names Max Miller and The Cheeky Chappie, was an English comedian who was widely regarded as the greatest stand-up of his generation. He came from humble beginnings. He left school at the age of 12. At the outbreak of the First World War, he volunteered for the army.

Al procures an arrest warrant for Brennan but fails to catch him at the airport. He returns to the DA's office to find Brennan waiting. Ryder's career as an Australia team selector was unusual. As Test captain, he was on the selection panel for the 1930 Ashes tour of England, but was out-voted for a place on the team, and the captaincy passed to Bill Woodfull. In 1946, he was made a selector again and held the post for 23 years, forming a long association with Sir Donald Bradman and Chappie Dwyer.

In a rotary near the original main gate to the base, is a Lockheed F-94 Starfire (tail number 51-4335) which was, presumably, flown by future General Daniel "Chappie" James, Jr. when he was a squadron commander at Otis AFB in the 1950s. Archie Pate (born July 15, 1886 - April 16, 1936) was an American baseball pitcher and outfielder in the Negro leagues. In 1909, at the age of 22, he was pitching for the St. Paul Colored Gophers. He was playing with many notable players, including Dick Wallace, Chappie Johnson, Will McMurray, William Binga, and Bobby Marshall. He would move across town in 1910 to play two seasons for the Minneapolis Keystones where he would also play with future Kansas City Monarchs pitcher Hurley McNair.

Trent Opaloch is a Canadian cinematographer best known for his work with directors Neill Blomkamp and the Russo brothers. His major works include District 9 (2009), Elysium (2013), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Chappie (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). In 2010, Opaloch was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Cinematography for his work on District 9. In 2020, Opaloch starred in the music video for Pearl Jam's single "Retrograde".

His son Larry, who was once keen on Sybil, treats her husband Tom with rudeness and disrespect. He drugs Tom's drink so that he appears drunk. When Anthony Strallan reveals what Larry had done, Lord Merton asks his son if it was true. He was posthumously elected to the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1982, and the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990.

George H. Taylor (born September 1869) was an American baseball first baseman and manager in the pre-Negro leagues. While with the Page Fence Giants, Taylor played with many of the popular players of the day, including Charlie Grant, John W. Patterson, Chappie Johnson, George Wilson, William Binga, Home Run Johnson, Sherman Barton, and Peter Burns. In 1892 Taylor played in the Nebraska State League for Beatrice. He continued to play for Chicago teams Chicago Union Giants and Leland Giants, working with many of those same players.

After a few hours, medical help arrived and Johnston was hospitalised. The team manager Chappie Dwyer was mistakenly informed that Johnston had died, and the bowler later described his injury as a "nine-iron divot in the top of my skull". Johnston started coughing up blood, and he and Dwyer sought to have the accident private. However, news was leaked back to Australia, and Johnston's mother fainted; her husband and other son had already died and she was fearful that her lone remaining relative had joined them.

Anderson was the first African-American man to have a private pilot license in 1929. Mr. Crenchaw taught many pilots and cadets known as the Tuskegee Airmen. Some of the notables were William T. Mattison, Charles Debow, Daniel “Chappie” James, Lieutenant Colonel Charles “Chuck” Dryden, and fellow Arkansan Woodrow Crockett. Not only did Crenchaw serve at Tuskegee but he also served at Fort Sill in Oklahoma from 1953 to 1954, Camp Rucker (now Fort Rucker) in Alabama from 1954 to 1966, and Fort Stewart in Georgia from 1966 until 1972.

George "Chappie" Johnson Jr. (May 8, 1877 - August 17, 1949) was an American baseball catcher and field manager in the Negro leagues. He played for many successful teams from 1895 to 1920 and he crossed racial boundaries as a teacher and coach. Johnson was born and raised in the village of Bellaire, Ohio, on the upper Ohio River. In 1895, he debuted at the age of 17 with the Page Fence Giants, where he played short stop, left field, then first base, then moved to catcher where he stayed for most of his career.

He was made a creative consultant and suggested that Murphy keep one undercover role for a full series, instead of changing into a new guise every episode. This new dramatic element to the series was intended to make it a closer representation of real-life undercover work. Alongside his research with former undercover officer Peter Bleksley, Nesbitt hired a personal trainer and grew a handlebar moustache to change Murphy's physical characteristics and tone down the "cheeky chappie" persona that the audience had become accustomed to from his roles.Wylie, Ian (26 September 2007).

He played with several of the big players of the day, such as Chappie Johnson, Charlie Grant, Sherman Barton, and he caught for the famous pitcher of the day George Wilson. During his time with the Page Fence Giants, Burns often caught for Bill Holland.

Review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reported a 32% approval rating, based on 221 reviews, and a rating average of 4.88/10. The website's critical consensus reads, "Chappie boasts more of the big ideas and visual panache that director Neill Blomkamp has become known for — and, sadly, more of the narrative shortcomings." On Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating, the film has a score of 41 out of 100, based on 39 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews". According to CinemaScore, audiences gave the film a grade of "B" on an A+ to F scale.

He was a proponent of the Auburn Dam on the American River, however the project never came to fruition. He was known as a stubborn negotiator and resisted efforts to transfer control of Washington Union Station from the Interior Department to the Transportation Department. Founded in 1995, the studio specializes in character/creature design and animation, digital environments, VFX supervision, and concept art among other services. In 2010, the company was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for their work on District 9. Since then they have contributed to feature films and television series including Jurassic World, Straight Outta Compton, Game of Thrones, Chappie, Logan, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Pokémon Detective Pikachu.

Charles Philip "Chappie" Fox (May 27, 1913 - September 12, 2003) was a circus historian and philanthropist born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who greatly expanded the Circus World Museum and helped found the Great Circus Parade in Milwaukee. Fox took over the tiny museum, in Baraboo, Wisconsin, in 1960, and began to collect and restore antique circus wagons. These wooden wagons had been built in the late 19th and early 20th century, and lay in disrepair across the United States and Europe. Today, the museum owns over 200 of these wagons.

In science fiction, movies and novels have played with the idea of sentience in robots and machines. Neil Blomkamp's Chappie (2015) enacted a scenario of being able to transfer one's consciousness into a computer. The film, Ex Machina (2014) by Alex Garland, followed an android with artificial intelligence undergoing a variation of the Turing Test, a test administered to a machine to see if its behavior can be distinguishable to that of a human's. Works such as Terminator (1984) and The Matrix (1999) incorporate the concept of machines turning on their human masters (See Artificial Intelligence).

Olds next became commander of the 81st Tactical Fighter Wing at RAF Bentwaters, England, an F-101 Voodoo fighter- bomber wing, on September 8, 1963. The 81st TFW was a major combat unit in United States Air Forces Europe, having both a tactical nuclear and conventional bombing role supporting NATO. Olds commanded the wing until July 26, 1965. As his Deputy Commander of Operations Olds brought with him Colonel Daniel "Chappie" James Jr., whom he had met during his Pentagon assignment and who would go on to become the first African-American 4-star Air Force general.

In March 2019, Australian musician Zheani Sparkes released a diss track titled "The Question" detailing an alleged sexual assault on her by Jones in South Africa in 2013. Sparkes claimed that Jones drugged her, as well as human traffick[ed] her to Africa, and sent sexually explicit photos of her to cast members of Chappie. He also expressed having an active interest in her because of her resemblance to his now teenage daughter, Sixteen Jones, who in 2013, was only 8 years old. A conflict between Die Antwoord and Sparkes ensued on social media afterwards, where Jones accused Sparkes of catfishing him.

Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle rated it three out of four stars and wrote of Blomkamp, "It's hard to say how much he's doing consciously and how much he's doing through intuition, but he's doing really interesting things in Chappie, and right from the beginning." Tom Huddleston of Time Out London rated it four out of five stars and wrote that "this hugely entertaining oddity could never be mistaken for the work of any other filmmaker". The Chappie is published six times during the academic year, or twice per quarter. There are a number of traditional issues, such as the Freshman Number published at the beginning of the school year, and the Big Game Number published on the week of the longstanding football matchup between Stanford and The University of California, Berkeley. In the early Spring, the Chaparral traditionally publishes an annual satire of The Stanford Daily, popularly termed the "Fake Daily." During the annual elections for student government, two of the magazine's writers traditionally run for president and vice-president of the student body.

The Slocums perform their show with songs by Harold and Ruby ("Once in a Blue Moon"), Joy and Clarrie ("Dark Handsome Chappie") and the Slocum family ("At The End of the Parade"). After very positive reception from most of the town's residents, Harold agrees on behalf of the whole family to stay in the town to celebrate New Years. Ruby laments how she misses the man Harold used to be ("Abracadabra Man"), as Peg is torn between her husband and Johnny ("Dark Handsome Stranger"). Barry sees the yellow dress Peg plans on wearing to New Years and is suddenly reminded of his dead wife ("Casuarina Tree").

He refused to compromise by playing "swing" versions of the classics, and even turned down a Hollywood contract because he would not have control over the musical selections he would play. In 1932 and 1933, still led by Phil Edwards but managed by Frank Fairfax, the Collegians made an extensive tour of the southeastern United States. According to Cleophas "Chico Hicks, who played banjo and guitar for the band beginning in 1932, Fairfax took a large role in the booking and business management of the Collegians. Dev Patel (; born 23 April 1990) is a British actor. Patel made his screen debut as Anwar Kharral in the first two series of the British television teen drama Skins (2007–2008), landing the role with no prior professional acting experience. His breakthrough came in 2008 with the leading role of Jamal Malik in Danny Boyle's drama Slumdog Millionaire, for which he was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor. Patel starred in the commercially successful romantic comedy The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2012) and its 2015 sequel, the science fiction film Chappie (2015), and the HBO drama series The Newsroom (2012–2014).

Sharlto Copley (born 27 November 1973) is a South African actor. He has played Wikus van der Merwe in the Academy Award-nominated science fiction film District 9, Howling Mad Murdock in the 2010 adaptation of The A-Team, Agent C.M. Kruger in the science fiction film Elysium, James Corrigan in the science fiction horror film Europa Report and King Stefan in the dark fantasy adventure film Maleficent. He also played the title character in the science fiction film Chappie, as Jimmy in Hardcore Henry, and starred in two seasons as Christian Walker of the TV series Powers. Sharlto is married to fellow South African actress and fashion model Tanit Phoenix.

Ford flight, led by 8th TFW Vice Commander Colonel Daniel "Chappie" James, Jr. entered the target area at 1505, just as the MiGs began to engage, and James radioed a warning to Olds. Though he did not score a victory himself, James witnessed the victory made by his wingman, Captain Everett T. Mary From the Dairy is a comic song made famous by British comedian Max Miller, The Cheeky Chappie, in the 1930s and 1940s. With words by Max Miller, Sam Kern & James Walsh and music by Sam Kern, it became Miller's signature tune, played by the orchestra when he walked on stage. It was a mildly risqué song about Max Miller falling for Mary from the dairy and includes the lines "I don't do things by halves / I'll let you see my calves / and they're not the same shaped calves as Nellie Dean's." Sam Kern, the composer, said that the idea for the song came to him as he was sitting in the Express Dairies in Charing Cross Road.

Lynford has also written a 1970s musical called Disco Crazee, which was produced by Bruce James in 2005, at the Edinburgh Festival and subsequently toured Britain. More recently, Lynford directed The Cheeky Chappie, a play about the comedian Max Miller, Side By Side By Sondheim and Ken Hill's The Curse of the Werewolf at the Union Theatre in London. In 2006/7/8 he directed the comedy Dirty Dusting at the Gaiety Theatre, Dublin and on tour in Ireland and Scotland, and in 2008, Menopause the Musical at the Tivoli Theatre, Dublin and on tour. In 2009, he directed Menopause the Musical on tour in the UK. He has worked as a theatre producer for Paul Holman Associates.

Jake Zim joined Sony Pictures Entertainment Worldwide Marketing and Distribution as Senior Vice President of Digital Marketing in 2011. Projects undertaken during his tenure in this position include Angry Birds (film), The Walk, Chappie, No Good Deed, The Monuments Men, Captain Phillips, RoboCop, Skyfall, Men in Black 3, Moneyball, 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street Zim and his team received a 2014 Webby Award for Telekinetic Coffee Shop Surprise. Zim partnered with hyper-reality pioneers The Void and Madame Tussauds New York to create a virtual reality experience called Ghostbusters: Dimension. The experience was engineered by The Void in collaboration with the film's director Paul Feig and Ghostbusters creator Ivan Reitman.

In February 2015, while promoting his newest film, Chappie, director Neill Blomkamp expressed some regrets regarding Elysium, commenting: > I feel like I fucked it up, I feel like ultimately the story is not the > right story... I still think the satirical idea of a ring, filled with rich > people, hovering above the impoverished Earth, is an awesome idea. I love it > so much, I almost want to go back and do it correctly. But I just think the > script wasn't... I just didn't make a good enough film is ultimately what it > is. I feel like I executed all of the stuff that could be executed, like > costume and set design and special effects very well.

Further indiscretions follow for Archie: he upsets Lucille by apparently paying too much attention to an actress; he bets $1000 on the Giants (then a New York baseball team), but gets into a fight with their star pitcher and injures his arm. He advises Lucille's brother, Bill, who has a habit of getting into relationships with girls of whom his father disapproves, and lends a hand to an old comrade from the war, “The Sausage Chappie”, who's lost his memory and forgotten his own name. He upsets Mrs Cora Bates McCall, a vegetarian and healthy food campaigner, by persuading her son to take part in a pie-eating contest. Then there's an incident with a painting which further upsets Brewster.

The digital art was hand drawn on a digital pad by Gautham Raj. One of the posters depicted a mutated Minion, reminiscent of Chitti's "villain robot" look in Enthiran. In March 2015, Kamath, in his review of the science fiction film Chappie, compared its eponymous lead character to Chitti in terms of learning human emotions. Joe Russo, who co-directed Avengers: Infinity War (2018), said the sequence in Enthiran where numerous clones of Chitti come together to form a giant snake inspired a similar scene in Infinity Wars predecessor Age of Ultron (2015) where the titular antagonist, Ultron and his clones come together to form a gigantic version of himself, but that the scene was cut from the final version of the film to accommodate its runtime.

It shows an amateur recording of two young men who find a dead mutated creature in a puddle of mud while driving down a countryside road. The creature, a dog-sized mix between a pig and a lizard, presents a tattooed seal on its side that reads "18.12 AGM Heartland Pat. Pend. USA". "AGM Heartland" was trademarked for its use in an entertainment-oriented website. On 20 February 2012, a 23-second video clip titled "IS IT DEAD?" appeared on YouTube, featuring Yolandi Visser, of the South African group Die Antwoord, crouching over the creature. Blomkamp admitted that he was still interested in making a Halo film in April 2013. After Elysium, he started work on his next sci-fi film, Chappie, in April 2013.

Machines have been another popular theme in science fiction works, appearing in works like I, Robot (film), Ex Machina (film), Chappie (film), 2001: A Space Odyssey, and even much older works such as The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert A. Heinlein. In such works, machines are portrayed with the ability to speak just as well or even better than humans. This ability is almost always explained from the perspective of computer programming as was done in The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, although it has just as much to do with linguistics, especially in order to sound natural enough to be indistinguishable from a regular human. Speech synthesis occurring in science fiction works can be categorised into two forms.

Rule of the Bone received mixed reviews. In one article, Ed Peaco gave praise to the novel by saying, “Like Huck Finn, Bone’s slyly unsophisticated voice explores big questions like love, sex, crime, sin, race, class, and the fate of children in a fractured society.” Critics admired Banks’ style with one quoting: “...When it inhabits the cooly wised-up consciousness of Chappie, aka “Bone”, it’s harder to get away from than a Big Issue ambush...It features a wandering street urchin whom critics have likened to Huck Finn and Holden Caulfield.” Most praised Banks’ for his likeness to Mark Twain’s infamous tale, Huckleberry Finn, comparing one of the characters in Huck Finn, Jim, to I-man, a middle aged rastafarian who resembles Huck's companion.

Though founded to address funding inequities in education resources for African Americans, UNCF- administered scholarships are open to all ethnicities; the great majority of recipients are still African-American. It provides scholarships to students attending its member colleges as well as to those going elsewhere. Graduates of UNCF member institutions and scholarships have included many Black people in the fields of business, politics, health care and the arts. Some prominent UNCF alumni include Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a Nobel Peace Prize recipient and leader in the Civil Rights Movement; Alexis Herman, former U.S. Secretary of Labor; noted movie director Spike Lee; actor Samuel L. Jackson; General Chappie James, the U.S. Air Force’s first black four-star general; and Dr. David Satcher, a former U.S. Surgeon General and director of the Centers for Disease Control.

Daniel "Chappie" James and Garrison, provided one of the strongest and most experienced command triumvirates in Southeast Asia. Garrison flew the F-4C Phantom II on 97 missions over North Vietnam and Laos, although Olds noted that Garrison never formally "checked out" (qualified) in the type, as a result of which he always flew with an instructor pilot in the rear seat.Olds (2010), p. 308 In describing Garrison's combat experience, Olds observed that Garrison flew his "52nd combat mission on his 52nd birthday" while at Ubon.Oliver (1999), p. 64 Olds misspoke, as the mission was Garrison's 51st on his 51st birthday, October 29, 1966. The first Queensland goldrush did not occur until late 1858, however, after the discovery of what was rumoured to be payable gold for a large number of men at Canoona near what was to become the town of Rockhampton. According to legendBird, Early History of Rockhampton, pp. 9–10 this gold was found at Canoona near Rockhampton by a man named Chappie (or Chapel) in July or August 1858.Report on the Canoona Goldfields, 1858 – "The Fitzroy Diggings", 1 November 1858, The Argus (Melbourne) The gold in the area, however, had first been found north of the Fitzroy river on 17 November 1857 by Captain (later Sir) Maurice Charles O'Connell, a grandson of William Bligh the former governor of New South Wales, who was Government Resident at Gladstone. Initially worried that his find would be exaggerated O'Connell wrote to the Chief Commissioner of Crown Lands on 25 November 1857 to inform him that he had found "very promising prospects of gold" after having some pans of earth washed. Chapel was a flamboyant and extrovert character who in 1858 at the height of the goldrush claimed to have first found the gold.
