In 1864 (1831-1902), then a saddler by trade, established a little factory for the manufacture of carriages and sleighs along the Rampischen Alley (Rampischen Gasse 6), near the Frauenkirche, in Dresden. Alpha Inn, opened 1963 (date of original building unknown) Cartographer Emanuel Bowen recorded Tavernspite in 1729 as having a building on the site of the Plume of Feathers inn. From 1787, after the road through the village had been turnpiked (the Tavernspite Turnpike Trust was established in 1771), Tavernspite would have been known to travellers on the Ireland mail coach from London and Bristol which passed through the village on the way to Milford Haven. In 1798 the Tavernspite Roads Bill was passed by Parliament for the repairs of the roads running from the village. In the early 1800s there were two inns. Richard Fenton in 1811 mentions Tavernspite having an inn where the Milford mail coach could change horses and where post-chaises were kept.

St Dizier was a fiefdom, providing revenue and forced labour for both priory and seigneurie. Also, until the Revolution, the seigneurs of Villemonteix, Orgnat, Vidignat, Malleret, Haute-Faye, the religious communities of Les Ternes and Bonlieu, and the vicairie of St Catherine d'Etansannes (among others), collected their dues from the two parishes. The parish of St Dizier consisted of the village of St Dizier itself plus the hamlets of Montbrenon, Busserolles, Les Chaises, Ponty and Orgnat, and two other settlements which have now disappeared – Les Olliers and Gravayoux. The seigneurie of La Tour belonged to the powerful and faraway family in Déols (~100 km), but in the actual vicinity there were 'junior' lords endowed with their own chateaux: le Mas de la Tour, and the chateaux of Orgnat and La Faye in the commune of St Dizier.

Mrs Thomas Lynch, 1755, Reynolda House Museum of American Art Theus was born in the city of Chur, in the Swiss canton of Graubünden, and was the eldest child of Simeon and Anna Walser Theüs. He was nineteen when he immigrated with his family to the Province of South Carolina, whose General Assembly had provided land grants and transport funds to encourage European Protestants to settle in the colony. Simeon Theüs was given of land along the Edisto River in what was then Orangeburgh Township, today Orangeburg County. By 1740, the younger Theus was in Charleston, advertising in the South Carolina Gazette: > Notice is hereby given, that Jeremiah Theus Limner is remov’d into the > Market Square near Mr. John Laurans Sadler, where all Gentlemen and Ladies > may have their Pictures drawn, likewise Landskips of all Sizes, Crests, and > Coats of Arms for Coaches or Chaises.

Ionesco's earliest theatrical works, considered to be his most innovative, were one-act plays or extended sketches: La Cantatrice chauve translated as The Bald Soprano or The Bald Prima Donna (written 1948), Jacques ou la soumission translated as Jack, or The Submission (1950), La Leçon translated as The Lesson (1950), Les Salutations translated as Salutations (1950), Les Chaises translated as The Chairs (1951), L'Avenir est dans les oeufs translated as The Future is in Eggs (1951), Victimes du devoir translated as Victims of Duty (1952) and, finally, Le Nouveau locataire translated as The New Tenant (1953). These absurdist sketches, to which he gave such descriptions as "anti-play" (anti-pièce in French) express modern feelings of alienation and the impossibility and futility of communication with surreal comic force, parodying the conformism of the bourgeoisie and conventional theatrical forms. In them Ionesco rejects a conventional story-line as their basis, instead taking their dramatic structure from accelerating rhythms and/or cyclical repetitions. He disregards psychology and coherent dialogue, thereby depicting a dehumanized world with mechanical, puppet-like characters who speak in non-sequiturs.
