Like Frankenstein's monster, Fuseli's demon symbolically seeks to forestall a marriage. Edgar Allan Poe may have evoked The Nightmare in his short story "The Fall of the House of Usher" (1839). His narrator compares a painting hanging in Usher's house to a Fuseli work, and reveals that an "irrepressible tremor gradually pervaded my frame; and, at length, there sat upon my heart an incubus of utterly causeless alarm". Desika on a 2019 stamp of India Sri Vaishnava books record how Goddess Lakshmi, known as Ranganayaki in the holy town of Sri Rangam, personally conferred on him the title of ‘Sarva-tantra-svatantra’ or master of all arts and crafts. It is also believed that Lord Rangantha who is the presiding Deity of Sri Rangam, awarded the title of ‘Vedanta Desika’, meaning: the supreme teacher of the conclusion of all knowledge. This was done because the Lord was immensely pleased when Desika debated with differing scholars and established the supremacy of the path of loving surrender or prapatti-marga. He received other titles such as ‘Kavitarkika-kesari’ and ‘Kavitarkika- simham’, the lion amongst poets; and ‘Ramanuja-daya-patram’, the recipient of Ramanuja's causeless mercy, given in a laudatory verse composed by the famous Brahma Tantra Svatantra Swami.

The deity of shadabhuja gauranga to commemorate Chaitanya Mahaprabhu manifesting as Vishnu at the Ganga mata math in Puri the term 'Gauranga' is relevant in Gaudiya Vaishnavism due to scriptural verses such as the following found in the Bhagavata Purana (Disciples of Swami Prabhupada translation; Sankrit in square brackets "[ ]" and emphasis added): 'Krsna' (or 'Krishna', Sanskrit कृष्ण) means 'black'; 'Akṛṣṇam' ('a-krsna-m') means 'not black' or 'golden'. 'Gauranga' refers to the golden skin complexion of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, most notable for popularising the 16 syllable "Hare Krishna" maha-mantra, also known as the Nama-Sankirtan (congregational chanting of the Holy-names of the Lord): On this kind of scriptural basis, Lord Chaitanya is considered to be an avatar of the Supreme Lord Krishna. In essence, Lord Chaitanya appeared by His causeless mercy in this age of Kali Yuga to deliver us by spreading Yuga- Dharma (dharma, or duty, relevant to a given age), in this instance via chanting of the Holy names of the Lord as the easiest means of achieving liberation (moksha). This mantra is intended to spread love for God without seeing any mundane qualification or characteristic such as color, cast, creed, or nationality.
