In 2017, Unterbuchner reached the last 48 of the World Masters. He qualified for the 2018 BDO World Darts Championship as one of the Playoff Qualifiers and played David Cameron in the preliminary round, winning 3–2. Unterbuchner became the first German player to reach a semi-final at a World Championship, as well as the first to win a last 16 match at a World Championship, when he caused an upset by beating No. 3 seed Jamie Hughes 3–2 in the first round, No. 14 seed Martin Phillips 4–2 in the second round, and No. 11 seed Richard Veenstra 5–4 in the quarter final. The 1947 Hobart Carnival was the tenth edition of the Australian National Football Carnival, an Australian rules football interstate competition. It was held from the July 30 to August 9 and was the second time (first being 1924) to be held in Hobart with North Hobart Oval once again being the host stadium throughout the carnival. The carnival was expanded to seven teams from the three that played in the previous edition which meant for the first time since 1908, the competition saw two sections. Section A being South Australia, VFL and Western Australia while Tasmania, New South Wales, Queensland and Canberra took part in Section B. Western Australia caused an upset with a 4-point win over the VFL, the first time the Victorians had lost at a carnival since 1921.

Johnson lost in the last 64 at 1993 Welsh Open to Joe Grech. In the 1993 European Open Johnson beat Anthony Davies in the last 64 and caused an upset by beating John Parrot 5–3 before losing by the same scoreline to Mick Price in the last 16 [28]. At the 1993 British Open Johnson beat Anthony O'Connor 5–2 in the last 64 before losing to Jimmy White in the last 32[29]. John Parrot avenged his earlier defeat to Johnson by beating him in the last 16 of the 1993 Asian Open after Johnson had beaten Martin Clark in the last 32 and Troy Shaw in the last 64 [30]. The penultimate event before the World Championship saw Johnson beaten 5–0 by Billy Snaddon in the last 64 of the 1993 International Open.

Seeded 29th at her first French Open, Ivanovic caused an upset in the third round when she defeated Mauresmo in three sets,Mauresmo out as French flop in Paris – ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) en route to reaching the quarter-finals in just her second appearance in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament, where she eventually lost to Nadia Petrova. After a change of ownership, in 2011, Atalanta immediately came back to Serie A, where it has been ever since. The 1962–63 Coppa Italia In terms of titles the club has won little; their sole major silverware is the 1963 Coppa Italia. The club has had a few good runs in Europe, on several occasions being eliminated by the eventual winners. Welsh club Merthyr Tydfil caused an upset in the 1987–88 European Cup Winners' Cup, beating Atalanta 2–1 in the first leg of their first round match at Penydarren Park. The club experience its first relegation at the end of the 2015–16 season finishing in twentieth position in the twenty-four-team National League South. Rivera outpointed Bleakley over ten rounds, setting up a ten-round bout against former IBF world Junior Middleweight champion "Ferocious Fernando Vargas". The Rivera-Vargas bout took place on May 5, 2001 at the Don Haskins Convention Center in El Paso, Texas. Rivera almost caused an upset when he dropped the heavily favored Vargas in round two of their bout, but Vargas rose from the canvas to win by sixth-round knockout in a fight broadcast on HBO Boxing After Dark.

Rainer Schüttler reached his first Wimbledon semi-final The men's side of the draw was notable for the performances of Marat Safin and Rainer Schüttler, ranked 75th and 94th respectively on entering the tournament. Safin caused an upset in the second round when he defeated Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets, on the way to his first ever Wimbledon semi- final, where he lost to Roger Federer. After more than five years without reaching the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament, and thirteen consecutive Grand Slam tournaments without advancing past the second round, Schüttler also reached his first Wimbledon semi-final, where he was defeated in straight sets by the eventual champion Rafael Nadal. Schüttler had earlier defeated Arnaud Clément (who had previously not advanced to the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament since reaching the final of the 2001 Australian Open) in an epic quarter-final that lasted two days.

Ridden by Chris Munce, a week later, he led turning for home before being run down finishing fourth behind Sky Heights in the Caulfield Cup. After his run in the Caulfield Cup, it was obvious that Rogan Josh had staying ability, plus he already had form at 3200 metres with his second in the Perth Cup earlier in the year, and he would be a real threat in the Melbourne Cup - particularly with his weight of 50 kg - his odds shortened to 15/1. Suddenly everyone wanted to know more about Bart's Perth horse. Once Rogan Josh was assured of a start in the Melbourne Cup, Bart Cummings entered him to run in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes on Victoria Derby as his final lead-up race. John Marshall was chosen to ride him and Rogan Josh caused an upset by winning the Mackinnon at odds of 12/1 and producing a career high rating of 115 and equaling the race record (2:00.3) which was set by Horlicks in the 1989 Mackinnon Stakes.

Lines did not give up however, and thanks to working with coach Steve Prest had a successful 2007–08 season in the PIOS, where he won one event and reached the final of another to finish second in the top 8 qualifying for the main tour. He carried his fine form into the 2008–09 season as he performed consistently to finish in the top 64 and maintain his tour place. Better was to come during the next season, as Lines reached the last 64 of the Shanghai Masters and the last 48 of the Grand Prix, before a remarkable run in the UK Championship. He defeated Xiao Guodong, Ian McCulloch and Nigel Bond to qualify for the venue stages; there he convincingly beat Marco Fu 9–3, then caused an upset by edging out Mark Williams 9–8 to reach his second career quarter-final. Despite the 5–9 loss to Stephen Maguire, this performance could've allowed Lines to return to the top 48 of the world rankings, but another drop in form resulted in three opening round defeats in the remaining tournaments of the season to leave him ranked 50.

Henman, a silver medallist in the 1996 Olympic doubles event, was the highest placed seed to lose in the first round when he lost to world number 27 Jiří Novák 6–3, 6–3 due to an inconsistent and error-prone play in a 68-minute match that took place in blustery weather.

Henderson was born in Hexham, Northumberland, later moving to nearby Allendale. As a young boy, he was unable to walk for a year because of a paralytic illness. He began his football career as a junior with Newcastle United before signing for Carlisle United in 1950. He played for Carlisle's reserves in the North-Eastern League, but never played first-team football for them, and signed for Third Division North club Darlington in 1952.
