Finally by 1914–15, Genoa had restored themselves as the top club from Northern Italy, winning the final round of the Northern section.
The striker's pace and dribbling ability, combined with a very successful partnership with Dion Dublin saw Huckerby play a key role at Coventry. Huckerby and Dublin's partnership did not go unnoticed and earned Huckerby a call up to the England B squad, whilst Dublin managed call ups to the full squad, under Glenn Hoddle. Huckerby played a major role in Coventry's Premier League survival, culminating with a final day 2–1 win at Tottenham Hotspur in 1997. His success with the Sky Blues continued throughout the following season as Coventry enjoyed a ten-game unbeaten run and reached the quarter finals of the FA Cup, narrowly losing on penalties to Sheffield United.

In 2003 Distin represented the L'équipe de l'amitié in a posthumous testimonial game for his former Manchester City teammate, Marc-Vivien Foé, versus the Cameroon national football team. In addition to France, Distin is also eligible to play for the non-FIFA affiliated nation of Guadeloupe as his father was born in Guadeloupe. Distin was approached to play in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup by the Guadeloupean Federation but rejected the advances as he didn't feel it would be beneficial for his pre-season routine with Everton. In March 2013, Distin made his 402nd English Premier League appearance, the most of any foreign outfield player, but he never received any international call-ups.

In 2012, Rajaković became the head coach of the Tulsa 66ers of the NBA Development League. Rajaković led Tulsa to a combined 51-49 record over two seasons, including a 27-23 record and NBA D-League Semifinals appearance in 2012–13. During his time with the 66ers, Tulsa was assigned seven players from Oklahoma City a total of 50 times (the most in the league during that stretch), including Oklahoma City players such as Reggie Jackson, Perry Jones, Jeremy Lamb and André Roberson. Rajaković witnessed five of his Tulsa players receive call-ups to the NBA, including four to the Oklahoma City (Grant Jerrett, Daniel Orton, Mustafa Shakur and Reggie Williams).

He became the 20th player in Major League history to hit a home run in his first two starts.
Through the 2019 season, every MLB team's roster expanded on September 1 from the 25-man active roster to the entire 40-man roster. Thus, any player on the expanded roster on September 1 or later could play for the MLB team through the end of the regular season. September call-ups were often younger players who were being given major league experience and, especially for teams in playoff contention, players who could provide positional depth, such as a third catcher or additional relief pitchers. In practice, teams usually did not have the entire 40-man roster on hand for games; typically, clubs would have about six additional players available over the usual limit of 25.
A late developer when it came to rugby union, Tristan focused on hockey at school playing at county level. Pasquato officially joined Juventus in July 2003 and instantly earned early comparisons to club legend Alessandro Del Piero, most notably due to their origins at Padova, but also due their similar field positions and free-kick abilities. In 2006, Pasquato reached the Primavera team after winning the Allievi title. Being a free kick specialist, Pasquato scored the winner against Internazionale in the Supercoppa Primavera final. After six years in the Juventus youth sector, Pasquato began to earn senior call-ups from coach Claudio Ranieri during the 2007–08 Serie A season, and made his first team debut on 11 May 2008, the final matchday of that season, as a second-half substitute.

He missed only one match in any senior team competition, a 1–0 win over Sheffield United in the First Division, due to an international call-up for Wales. Five other players made 40 or more appearances during the course of the season, including Billy Grimshaw who had made the most appearances the previous season. The change of faces did little to change the pattern of consistent inconsistency of previous seasons. Once again, the early rounds saw a false dawn as Saracens found themselves in the top three, and again the club coped badly with the international call-ups for the 2003 World Cup, once again finding themselves near the foot of the table. Only the long gap to bottom place Rotherham avoided any serious relegation danger. The victorious return of Richard Hill and Kyran Bracken from World Cup duty brought somewhat more upbeat performances for the second half of the season, but it still took a rare away victory at London Irish to claim the same 10th place of two seasons before.
2004–05 saw a bold strengthening of the squad, for once eschewing their cosmopolitan recruitment policy and securing mainly English based players, possibly with one eye on the effect that international call-ups had had in previous seasons. In came Kevin Yates, Iain Fullarton, Alex Sanderson, Dan Scarbrough and Hugh Vyvyan, while Matt Cairns returned to the club and Steve Diamond arrived at the club as forwards coach. Another signing who was to become a prominent part of the Saracens' line up was fly half Glen Jackson from New Zealand. The season got off to the best off all possible starts with Saracens scoring a victory over reigning champions Wasps at the first ever London 'Double Header' at Twickenham.
In the 2007–08 season, his second year in Stuttgart, he established himself as one of the leading players, due to his constant and solid performances and also because, at 32, he was one of the older players in the otherwise young VfB side. Therefore, he earned the nickname el comandante or el jefe in the team. On 20 August 2008, he helped Mexico to a 2–1 win over Honduras at home in their first World Cup qualifier match at Estadio Azteca, scoring a brace in the 72nd and 75th minute respectively after trailing 1–0. He was called up to play again against Honduras after missing the squad due to injury or call-ups from VfB Stuttgart.
Three games into the 1939–40 season, the Football League was cancelled due to the outbreak of World War II. Swindon Town joined the Wartime South West Regional League and, owing to military call-ups, fielded a total of 46 different players during the season. These players included staff and wartime guests (such as Danny Blanchflower), with some retired players associated with the club also taking part. At the end of the 1939–40 season, the War Department requisitioned the County Ground for use as a Prisoner-of-war camp, Swindon Town as a football club effectively ceased to be for the duration. The club's assets and players were sold or transferred until the season restarted.
Diego Maradona trading card issued by Panini for the 1986 World Cup In 1986 Panini created a museum of figurines which they donated to the city of Modena in 1992. Panini begins assembling each World Cup squad for their sticker album a few months before they are officially announced by each nation, which means surprise call ups often do not feature in their album. A notable example of this was 17-year-old Brazilian striker Ronaldo who was called up for the Brazil squad for the 1994 FIFA World Cup. In May 2006, Panini partnered with The Coca-Cola Company and Tokenzone to produce the first virtual sticker album for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Kenway cited the poor state of the then new Rose Bowl pitches for his poor form, stating that they made batting difficult.
Du Toit attended Grey College in Bloemfontein, where he earned call-ups to represent the Free State at youth tournaments. He represented them at the 2007 Under-18 Academy Week held in Pietersburg and also at the Under-18 Craven Week – the premier high school rugby union tournament in South Africa – held in Pretoria in 2008. He was then included in a South African Under-18 Elite Squad and then earned a selection to be the starting fly-half for the South African Schools team that played against a South African Schools Academy side in August 2008. He was also included in the squad that competed at the 2008 Under-19 Provincial Championship.
In contrast the Pathfinders were an isolated group in the Parachute battalion, as their war doctrine and command ethos differed radically from that of the normal Paratrooper Companies. This situation was further exacerbated with the Commanders lack of understanding of how to use specialist’s forces. This led to amongst other, airborne battle-handling courses being presented at the newly formed 44 Parachute Regiment (Downgraded from Brigade to Regiment in 1999 following a transformation of the SADF to SANDF) The issue as described is discussed and dealt with and every junior officer in the airborne attends. He pitched in 15 total games during three separate call-ups in 2006, with a 4.80 ERA in 15 innings. At the end of spring training in 2007, Moylan was again assigned to Richmond, but he was quickly called up on 14 April due to the injury of pitcher Chad Paronto.
In one of his earliest clashes with the French for example, he executed a sweeping pincer movement to recapture the gold- producing center of Bure, a gambit that threatened to cut off the French rear, and forced them to withdraw. Additional victories were won at Nfadji and Dadadugu. Flexibility was also seen in Samori's organization, from the use of Konya warrior bands, to the traditional militia call-ups centered on a force of regulars, to his later use of riflemen organized in smaller European-style units. However, although Samori inflicted heavy casualties on the French in several encounters during the 1890s, growing French resources, mobility and firepower placed his regime in ultimate jeopardy.
All-time record of 75 set by Will White in 1879; modern-era record of 48 set by Jack Chesbro in 1904. Sports Illustrated has said about this record, "Even if the bar is lowered to begin with the live-ball era (which began in 1920), the mark would still be untouchable." The most complete games recorded in a live-ball season is 33, achieved three times in all—twice at the dawn of that era by Grover Cleveland Alexander in 1920 and Burleigh Grimes in 1923, and also by Dizzy Trout in 1944, a season in which the player pool was severely depleted by military call-ups during World War II. Modern starters can expect to start about 34 games in a season.

Other drop-outs were Oliver Kahn, Iker Casillas, Paolo Maldini, Lilian Thuram, Carles Puyol, Fabio Grosso, Miguel, Juninho and Ronaldo. The last-minute nature of these withdrawals led to further call-ups, predominantly teammates of the remaining squad members and from other English clubs; these final players were Santiago Cañizares, Roberto Ayala (both Valencia), Iván Campo, Stelios Giannakopoulos, El Hadji Diouf (all Bolton Wanderers), Dejan Stefanović (Portsmouth), Philippe Christanval (Fulham), Kim Källström (Lyon), Boudewijn Zenden and Robbie Fowler (both Liverpool). Injury caused him to miss a large part of the 1910–11 season, but he returned in March at left-half, following the transfer of Bert Trueman to Sheffield United. Following Glover's departure in September 1911, Robertson made the left-back position his own and his form earned him two call-ups to the Southern League representative XI in which he played the Irish League in Belfast and the Football League XI at Stoke. This season saw his longest period of regular first-team football, when he missed only one match before he was sold to Rangers in March 1912, much to the dismay of the Saints' supporters. In his six seasons at The Dell, Robertson made a total of 164 appearances, scoring once.

Speaking of the experience, Maroon said "hugging Teemu Selanne, scoring goals, you'll never forget those moments...Those are the moments I can tell Anthony, tell my future kids, that I played with the best players in the world." He played the majority of the season in the AHL but scored two goals in 11 games with the Ducks during call ups throughout the season. On March 21, 2013, the Ducks signed Maroon to a two-year contract extension. The 2013–14 season was Maroon's first full NHL season, during which he appeared in 62 games, scoring 11 goals to go with 18 assists. Although he had a year left on his contract, the Ducks signed him to a three-year contract extension on August 2, 2014.
He came on as a substitute in two games, the knockout game with England, replacing Mesut Özil in the 83rd minute and during the "consolation" match for third place against Uruguay, where he came on as a substitute for Cacau in the 73rd minute. He later stated that he would refuse call-ups to the squad while Joachim Löw remained in charge, due to a perceived lack of respect by the German coach. With Mario Gómez and Miroslav Klose both injured, Max Kruse was nominated instead of Kießling for the decisive 2014 World Cup qualifying match against Ireland, a move that essentially ruled Kießling out as an option for the German squad for the time being, despite his continued good form during the 2013–14 season.

Tottenham faced Chelsea in the final match in March at White Hart Lane. In a thrilling London derby, Tottenham took maximum points thanks to a second-half goal from Luka Modrić and a much improved performance by goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes, putting Tottenham only three away from a European place. However, he picked up an injury in August 1999 ruling him out for the 1999–2000 season but made a comeback the following season but he again suffered a hernia injury missing another season. Griffin enjoyed something of a resurgence under Bobby Robson and made several solid performances during the 2002–03 season, including in the UEFA Champions League, when his winning goal against Juventus rekindled his side's campaign. Injuries and a failure to get a regular place in the side saw him not offered a new contract by Newcastle at the end of the 2003–04 season.

The season also marked a management change as Glen Sather took over as general manager, marking the departure of Smith, who had drafted Malhotra and regarded him as untradeable during his tenure. Fifty-six games into his 2001–02 season with the Rangers, Sather dealt Malhotra to the Dallas Stars at the trade deadline, along with winger Barrett Heisten, in exchange for forwards Martin Ručinský and Roman Lyashenko. Although he had established himself as an effective forechecker and defensive forward, Malhotra did not materialize into the offensive player the Rangers hoped he would be.

He found his work on the law-drafting committee tedious and moved to the Court of Appeal as an assistant judge in 1902, his long-term goal being the easy life of a rural judge. Svinhufvud stayed mainly in the background until 1899, when Imperial Russia initiated a Russification policy for the autonomous Grand Duchy. The Finnish answer was mainly legislative and constitutional resistance, of which Svinhufvud became a central figure as a judge in the Court of Appeals. When some inhabitants of Helsinki lodged a complaint with the Turku Court of Appeal in 1902, concerning violence employed by the Russian Governor of Uusimaa to break up a demonstration against military call-ups, the court initiated proceedings against Governor-General Bobrikov.

His international call-ups along with other internationals at Leeds resulted in games against Swindon Town and Bristol Rovers being postponed. Kisnorbo missed the games against Kettering Town, Oldham Athletic and local rivals Huddersfield Town through an injury he picked up in training. He had not recovered from injury to be able to have a part in the squad in the FA Cup replay to Kettering. Valbuena's next call-up was over two years later in May 2010, when he was named to the 30-man preliminary list by Domenech to play in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Valbuena's call up was considered surprising by the media and the player himself, despite Valbuena playing well with his parent club who won the league and league cup double in the 2009–10 season.

Some also blame Petković's few and far in between call-ups on the fact he played for Brazilian sides most of his career, and thus was not always readily available for Yugoslavian coaches to watch him perform, evidenced by the fact he was omitted by Boškov from the Euro 2000 roster after coming to Flamengo. Furthermore, Petković declared in an interview to Placar magazine that he was more likely to get a call-up had he stayed at Venezia, a club he regarded as "ten times weaker club than Flamengo". Petković was also rumoured to not have very favorable relationships with the Football Association of Yugoslavia, yet another speculation for his few caps. According to him and his family, another reason was his denial in accept bribes charged by high ranked Federation officials.

The origin of this problem is often attributed to the change in conscription term brought about by the law of 12 October 1967, causing two different groups of conscripts to be simultaneously present in the army: those who were drafted for 3-year service and those only for 2-year service. Those who date the present dedovschina system to 1967 include During the same year, a decision was reached to draft conscripts with a criminal history into the ranks, due to a demographic crisis following World War II. While oppression by older conscripts has probably always taken place in the army, after that date, with the introduction of the four-class system (created by the bi-annual call-ups) it became systematic and developed its own rules and ranks.

Following the Austria match, Diaby went without an appearance for France for three years. The midfielder experienced several call ups to the team during the three years, but either withdrew from the squad due to injury or was not preferred by Domenech for a match. Despite this, Diaby was named to Domenech's 30-man preliminary squad to participate in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He made his return to the international scene in the team's 2–1 friendly match win over Costa Rica. Diaby was later named to the 23-man team to serve as a possible backup in the holding midfield role. Snow and Rodriguez, who made the tag and held onto the ball for the final out of a 7-6 win. Bošković started his pro career in 1996 with the Budva outfit FK Mogren, which was competing in lower Yugoslav division at the time. After playing there for two-and-a-half seasons, Branko earned a dream move to Red Star Belgrade in December 1998. In his four-and-a-half seasons in Belgrade, he twice helped his team win the Serbo-Montenegrin Football League, in both 1999–2000 and 2000–01, as well as the Yugoslav Cup three times in 1999, 2000 & 2002\. Additionally, he marked himself out as a talented and creative midfielder with a nose for goal, all of which earned him a series of national team call-ups. Still, his single most famous moment while at Red Star came during the 2002–03 UEFA Cup Second Round versus Lazio when he scored a goal in the return leg.
Manager Dusty Baker disclosed that outfielder Brian Goodwin had experienced a setback while rehabbing from a groin injury suffered the previous month, rendering his status doubtful for the rest of the season. Robles pinch-hit and flied out to deep right field in his major league debut as the Nationals took the first of four from the division rival Philadelphia Phillies, coming back to win 4−3. The Nationals made one more call-up on September 8, recalling infielder Adrián Sánchez in what Baker said was the last of the team's scheduled call-ups with expanded September rosters. In that evening's game against the Phillies, the Nationals won behind big offensive games from their shortstop Turner and their center fielder Michael A. Taylor, who respectively were a triple and a double shy of hitting for the cycle.
Dunga then began reaching call-ups to Brazil's senior squad, winning the 1989 Copa América by defeating Uruguay at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. Dunga was a starter for Brazil at the 1990 FIFA World Cup, during which he was held responsible more so than his teammates for the team's worst campaign at a World Cup since 1966, after a lackluster tournament and the squad's subsequent elimination in the second round by arch rivals Argentina. In the following years, he would be consistently targeted by Brazilian press due to his supposedly "thuggish" style of playing. This period in Brazil's football history was called "Era Dunga", as according to fans and journalists, he symbolized the less-than-thrilling, slow, gritty, direct, and defensive style that the team had adopted in favour of a more exciting attacking style.
Ivković ne zna zašto Mačvan nije došao, Micov ne ide sa "orlovima" na pripreme!;Blic, 8 July 2013 Asked by the Serbian media about the reasons for Mačvan not being there, head coach Ivković said he didn't know them and revealed that the coaching staff's attempts to reach the player in order to see what's going on were unsuccessful. As a result of Mačvan's failure to show up, Ivković decided to make two subsequent call-ups, to 20-year-old Nemanja Krstić and 21-year-old Nikola Kalinić both of whom went on to make the final 12-man roster and make their competitive debuts for the national team. In early June 2014, the national team's newly appointed head coach Saša Đorđević announced Mačvan alongside 28 other individuals on the preliminary list of players he was considering for the 12 final roster spots at the 2014 FIBA World Cup.
Teenage Savićević played at Budućnost's youth setup from January 1983 until summer 1984, a period during which he recorded a few substitute appearances for the full squad as well. The club signed him to a 4-year scholarship-based agreement (stipendija), which was not a professional contract. Furthermore, he had been receiving regular call-ups to the Yugoslavia national under-20 football team as well as SR Montenegro youth select team (alongside future notable professionals such as Božidar Bandović and Refik Šabanadžović) that competed at annual tournaments against other Yugoslav republics' select squads. On 5 October 1983, week 10 of the league season, head coach Folić gave the seventeen-year-old his first full-squad starting appearance at home versus Red Star Belgrade and the youngster ended up scoring on a put-back that he chased down ahead of Red Star's defender Zoran Banković and its goalkeeper Tomislav Ivković.
Barely a few days after signing with Red Star Belgrade, twenty-one-year-old Savićević promptly got called in to serve the mandatory Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) stint that would keep him out of action for the entire 1988–89 league season. Also signing with Red Star on the same day was Darko Pančev, a twenty-two-year-old natural striker with great goalscoring pedigree from Vardar Skopje, who also got called up to the army right after signing. There was much speculation at the time that the timing of the call-ups was FK Partizan's (Yugoslav army club with many ties to top military authorities) revenge to both players for signing with their biggest rivals. Right after reporting to the military, Savićević got transferred to the barracks in Skopje with an agreement that he'll be allowed to turn up for Red Star's European ties and national team matches.

They needed all five games to put away the Detroit Pistons but then lost to the St. Louis Hawks in seven games, losing the final game 105–103. In West's second NBA season, the Lakers could only make limited use of Baylor, who was called up by the U.S. Army Reserves and could play only 48 games. On January 17, 1962, West scored a career-high 63 points in a 129-121 win over the New York Knicks. However, West seamlessly took over the role of team leader and established himself as the main Lakers scorer, averaging 30.8 points, 7.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game, winning All-NBA First Team honors.

In 1950 a secretive amendment to the service law saw the term of active service increased by one year. It is speculated that this increase was a response to America’s involvement in the Korean war, however was chosen to be kept off of official records such as the Proceedings of the Supreme Soviet (link) so that the US would not learn of the increase and suspect the Soviet Union of preparing for war themselves. Then in 1955, the service term was reduced back down to three years from four in the air forces, coast-guard and coastal defence, and to four years from five in the Navy. This decision again was kept off official records, but was presumably part of the planned cut in manpower forces, announced in August 1955 and May 1956 On 12 October 1967 a major amendment to the service law saw service periods shortened from 3 years to 2, and also saw the frequency of call-ups increase to twice per year.
Audero was first called up to the Juventus first team by manager Massimiliano Allegri on 30 November 2014, but remained on the bench in Juventus's 2–1 home win over cross-city rivals Torino; he was called up to the bench five more times throughout the 2014–15 season. The following season, he signed his first professional contract with the club once he turned 18, and was even included in the team's UEFA list; he was called up to the first team on 18 occasions in total, but once again failed to make an appearance for the club. Following the departure of Rubinho in 2016, Audero was promoted to the club's third-choice goalkeeper behind Gianluigi Buffon and Neto for the 2016–17 season. After 61 call-ups in the league, Audero made his professional debut with Juventus on 27 May 2017, at the age of 20, in the final match of the 2016–17 Serie A season, a 2–1 away victory over Bologna.
During 1976, Bijelo Dugme bass guitarist Zoran Redžić, drummer Ipe Ivandić, and keyboardist Vlado Pravdić all faced hiatus from the band due to receiving call-ups to serve their respective mandatory Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) stints. Each of them thus got temporary replacements: Formula 4 leader Ljubiša Racić came in place of Redžić, Bregović's former Kodeksi bandmate Milić Vukašinović took over Ivandić's spot, and Pravdić got replaced by Laza Ristovski whose arrival from Smak (Bijelo Dugme's main competitors at the time) received extensive coverage in the Yugoslav press. The band worked on and prepared for the recording of the album in the village Borike in Eastern Bosnia, in which they previously worked on their previous studio album, Šta bi dao da si na mom mjestu. The album's working title was Sve se dijeli na dvoje, na tvoje i moje (Everything Is Split in Two, Yours and Mine), after a poem by poet and lyricist Duško Trifunović.
Brian Jeroloman spent a month with the 2011 Toronto Blue Jays without appearing in a game. A phantom ballplayer is either a baseball player who is incorrectly listed in source materials as playing in a Major League Baseball (MLB) game, often the result of typographical or clerical errors, or a player who spent time on an MLB active roster without ever appearing in an MLB contest during his career. Most of the first form of phantom players date from the 19th or early 20th century, with at least one showing up as late as World War II. A modern-day phantom ballplayer is generally caused by the player being removed from the active roster by a subsequent action (such as being optioned to a minor league team) or the team reaching the end of their season, and the player not having later opportunity to play in a major league game. Many of these phantom players were September call-ups in backup roles.
After joining Juventus, Castiglia registered with the club's youth sector at the start of the 2005–06 season, having spent some of his formative years in the under-17 team in 2005–06 season, under-18 team in 2006–07 season and the under-20 team for the last 2 seasons of his youth career (2007–08 & 2008–09). He also played once in the Campionato Nazionale Primavera for their under-20 team in 2006–07 season.Fullsoccer Castiglia began to earn first-team call-ups during the 2007–08 Serie A campaign, by then coach, Claudio Ranieri. Lwandamina earned call-ups to the Copperbelt and Zambia Secondary Schools teams and his leadership qualities were recognized as he later became a prefect at Ndeke Secondary, where his school-mates nicknamed him "Chicken" after cock fighter Chicken George in Alex Haley's Roots. With his interest in soccer re-ignited, he joined amateur side CISB where he played with Kenneth Malitoli and Kapambwe Mulenga, and would visit his mother in Chingola during the school holidays, where he would feature for Chiwempala Leopards. During his final year in school in 1984, Lwandamina received a lot of offers from clubs within Kitwe but opted to join Mutondo Stars which was being coached by Fordson Kabole. The day after completing school, he went back to Mufulira and rather than join Wanderers, he chose to join their rivals Mufulira Blackpool as he was keen on following Kalusha Bwalya's route to stardom, and he was well received at John Yumba Kachofa Stadium.
Mirante was a member of Italy U-21 team in 2006 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship, as an unused substitute. He has not made his debut for Italy at U-20 or U-21 level, despite having been called up a total of six times; similarly, he has yet to make his senior debut with Italy, despite having received ten call-ups. On 8 August 2010, he received his first senior international call-up under manager Cesare Prandelli, to replace the injured Federico Marchetti. Mirante was not included in Prandelli's final 23-man Italy squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup; however, he was one of the two Italian reserve players alongside Andrea Ranocchia who was kept on the standby list prior to the start of the competition, as a precaution, in case of injury to any of the squad's final players, following an injury scare to back-up goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu.

McGivern signed with League One side Shrewsbury Town in June 2016, along with former Port Vale teammates A-Jay Leitch-Smith and Louis Dodds. He made his debut for the club on the opening day of the season, in a 0−1 home defeat against Milton Keynes. Featuring regularly for the club in the early part of the season saw McGivern recalled to the Northern Ireland squad for the first time in nearly two years, however subsequent call-ups limited his first-team opportunities at Shrewsbury during a period which also saw manager Micky Mellon leave the club. He was recalled to the side by new manager Paul Hurst as Shrewsbury kept back-to-back clean sheets in 0−0 draws against former club Port Vale and Fleetwood Town, but a shoulder injury picked up in the next match, a 1−0 victory away at Millwall in December, kept him out of contention for a minimum of three weeks.
In February, he received a call-up for Panama's 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification matches against Trinidad and Tobago and the United States on 24 and 28 March, respectively, but was called home from camp by San Jose due to injury issues that the club did not wish to aggravate. These injuries persisted throughout the year and prevented him from taking part in the Gold Cup and in Panama's September World Cup qualifiers as well. Cummings said in February 2018 that he hoped to make a successful comeback from his injuries and perform well for San Jose, for which he did not appear in 2017, and translate a strong club appearance into call- ups for Panama's March friendlies and eventual 2018 FIFA World Cup appearance, the first in national history. He was called up to the squad for friendlies against Denmark and Switzerland on 22 and 27 March, respectively, alongside San Jose teammate Aníbal Godoy.
On 10 July 2008, Ćiro was appointed head coach of Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team replacing Meho Kodro who had been dismissed two months earlier by the Bosnian FA (FSBiH) officials after reportedly refusing to take charge of the national team for a friendly against Iran. Since Kodro's dismissal was seen by many fans as the latest in a series of problematic decisions by the much-maligned FA leadership, Blažević was thus, by proxy, not welcomed with open arms by certain sections of the public upon his arrival. With the national team in complete disarray and many players refusing to even answer call-ups by interim head coach Denijal Pirić, the appointment of Blažević was seen by many fans as FA's desperate makeshift solution designed to appease the public in the wake of the ongoing two-month fiasco by bringing in a fairly established name. However, combining his carefully crafted showman public persona with some decent initial results on the pitch, Blažević quickly managed to charm most of the public into getting behind him.
He completed the 2008–09 season in an impressive ninth place, their best result in Serie A in almost fifteen years, which was hailed as a huge result in light of the limited resources, the lack of top-class players, and the high quality of Cagliari's attacking football style, which led the Sardinians not far from UEFA Europa League qualification. Such results led him to be awarded the Panchina d'Oro (Golden bench), a prize awarded to the best Serie A football manager according to other managers' votes, ahead of Serie A winning coach José Mourinho. In the 2009–10 season, he managed to confirm Cagliari's high footballing levels despite the loss of regular striker Robert Acquafresca, leading an impressive number of three players from his side—namely Davide Biondini, Federico Marchetti, and Andrea Cossu—to receive Italian national team call-ups during his reign at the club. On 13 April 2010, Cagliari surprisingly removed Allegri from his managerial duties despite a solid 12th place with 40 points, and youth coach Giorgio Melis—with Gianluca Festa as his assistant—was appointed as his replacement.
As a player, Shen distinguished himself as a right- footed left winger and worked his way up from the Beijing Youth Football Team to their senior team. He would become one of the key players in the Chinese national football team during his career representing them in the 1980 AFC Asian Cup, however that was the only tournament he experienced because his subsequent call-ups saw China failed to qualify for the World Cup both times when Shen was a member of the China National Football Team. The 1986 World Cup qualification personally took its toll on him when he quit briefly after losing to Hong Kong on May 19, 1985 in a vital game that saw China knocked out of the tournament. While he did return to the national team he would concentrate more on his club career and was later chosen by the Chinese Football Association to go to Japan and joined the Fujitsū Football Team first as a player, then as an assistant coach and then finally as their head coach.
After transferring to Catania, Donnarumma played for all levels of the club's youth setup and in 2008 joined the Primavera U-20 team of Catania, the highest youth level below the first team. He formed a great partnership with Alessandro Malafronte and most notably Francesco Nicastro during his time within Catania's youth program. He also scored 16 goals in his final youth season at the club. His senior playing career began in 2009, when the attacker earned first-team call-ups towards the end of the 2009–10 Serie A campaign, at the age of 18. Despite failing to make his Serie A debut with the club, the player graduated the club's youth set-up at the conclusion of the 2009–10 season. In July 2010, Donnarumma was loaned out to Lega Pro Prima Divisione side, A.S. Gubbio 1910 in order to earn regular playing experience. During his spell with the third division club, Donnarumma made 23 league appearances, scoring 5 league goals. In his 25 official matches for the Gubbio, Donnarumma was a part of the starting lineup 22 times.
With rosters expanding for the final month of the season, the Nationals made their first set of moves on September 1, recalling catcher Pedro Severino from the Class-AAA Syracuse Chiefs and selecting the contract of Chiefs reliever Austen Williams. Neither of the new call-ups played in the Nationals' first game of the month, the second in a three-game series at Nationals Park against the Milwaukee Brewers. That game began in the evening of September 1, but a lengthy mid-game rain delay meant it did not finish until the early morning on September 2. Trailing by two runs when the rain delay started in the eighth inning, the Nationals rallied behind two-out RBI singles from shortstop Trea Turner and rookie left fielder Juan Soto to take the lead, with reliever Justin Miller locking down the save to complete the come-from-behind victory. In the rubber game, played the afternoon of September 2, the Nationals jumped out to an early two-run lead but couldn't hold it.
The feud culminated on 20 November 2010 when Nasri lived up to a pledge he would not shake the hand of Gallas, who was then playing for Tottenham Hotspur, during the pre-match build-up. Sweden defender at UEFA Euro 2012. In the 2008–09 season, Nasri appeared in only three matches with the national team. After playing against Lithuania on 28 March 2009, the midfielder went uncapped for the almost a year and a half. During the 2009–10 season, Nasri grew weary of his chances of appearing with the team at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. In the end, he did not appear with the team, failing to make the 23-man squad or even the preliminary squad. Nasri returned to the national team under the reign of new coach Laurent Blanc for the team's friendly against Norway on 11 August 2010. He missed the September call-ups due to injury before returning to the team in October for Euro 2012 qualifying matches against Romania and Luxembourg.
Born in Calendário, Vila Nova de Famalicão, Braga, Paneira started playing professionally with hometown's F.C. Famalicão, joining F.C. Vizela of the second division in the 1987–88 season and also receiving his first under-21 call-ups during the Toulon Tournament. He was signed by S.L. Benfica in the summer of 1988, and remained there until the end of the 1994–95 campaign, being an undisputed starter during his seven- year stay as he helped the Lisbon club to the Primeira Liga championship three times, adding the 1993 domestic cup. He also played in the 1990 Champions Cup final, with Benfica losing 0–1 to A.C. Milan; in the 1992–93 UEFA Cup he scored twice in a 2–1 home win against Juventus FC, coached by Giovanni Trapattoni (albeit in a 4–2 aggregate defeat). Paneira moved to Vitória S.C. for 1995–96, due to problems with Benfica manager Artur Jorge which was also part of a locker room clean-up – he was team captain when this occurred – and played four seasons there.

In the following season she played instead in the 1.
In the competition, he appeared in all four matches France contested. He scored two goals; both in group stage victories over the Czech Republic and Romania. France won the competition after defeating the hosts 3–1 in the final to become the competition's two- time defending champions. Afterwards, Niang failed to earn a call-up under Gonfalone at under-16 level, which resulted in the player missing the Montaigu Tournament. At under-17 level, Niang was among Gonfalone's first call-ups and made his debut at a European tournament in Serbia in the team's opening group stage match against the hosts. In first round qualification for the 2011 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship, he appeared in all three group stage matches as France finished the round in the second place behind Italy. Despite appearing in the team's first eight matches, Gonfalone did not call Niang up again for the under-17 team. He, subsequently, missed both the UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship and 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
On 30 January 2012, it was announced that Liverpool had signed Ward for a fee of around £100,000. He was quickly promoted to the Reserve team and featured in the 2011–12 NextGen Series where he played in the semi-finals. Ward got his first call-up to the Liverpool senior squad in a League Cup game against Swansea City on 31 October 2012 as an unused substitute. Mike Hargrove, April 2007 With the exception of the 1998 and 1999 seasons, the Mariners had been annual challengers for the AL West title from 1995 through 2003. The season, however, saw the fall of the Mariners from contention. With an aging roster, the Mariners went into the All-Star Break with a 9-game losing streak, and a 32–54 season record (.372) 17 games behind the first-place Texas Rangers. After the All-Star break, unable to ignore the dreadful state of their team, the Mariners gave the team a complete overhaul, trading Freddy García to the Chicago White Sox for Miguel Olivo, Jeremy Reed, and Mike Morse and moving aging and struggling players away from center stage (most notably, releasing Gold Glover and fan favorite John Olerud) and inserting over a dozen minor league call-ups into the 25-man roster. The season's end was enlivened by Ichiro breaking George Sisler's single season record of 257 hits (finishing with 262) and by events honoring the retirement of Mariner icon Edgar Martínez.

On January 8, 2015, it was announced that Roldan had left college early to sign a Generation Adidas contract with Major League Soccer. On January 15, he was selected 16th overall in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft by Seattle Sounders FC. After making two substitute appearances the first two weeks of the season against the New England Revolution and the San Jose Earthquakes, Roldan made a substitute appearance for USL affiliate club Seattle Sounders FC 2 on March 21 and scored an 89th-minute goal in a 4–2 victory over defending USL champion Sacramento Republic FC. Due to injuries and international call-ups, he made his first MLS start the following week in a goalless draw away to FC Dallas. Roldan scored his first career MLS goal on July 13, 2016, during a 5–0 win over FC Dallas. On November 10, 2019, Roldan featured for Seattle in a 3–1 home win over Toronto FC in the 2019 MLS Cup Final; he was involved in the build-up to his team's opening goal, after colliding with Jonathan Osorio, who lost the ball, while Seattle went on to score with Kelvin Leerdam.
Conceição played 56 times with the Portugal national team and scored 12 goals, his debut being on 9 November 1996 in a 1–0 home win against Ukraine for the 1998 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. In his last international game he was on the losing end of a 0–3 friendly defeat at the hands of Spain, on 6 September 2003. Early in his international career, Conceição was not known for his scoring prowess but, at UEFA Euro 2000, Portugal reached the semi-finals with a major contribution from him: in the third and final match of the group stage, against defending champions Germany in Rotterdam, he netted a hat-trick for all of the game's goals;Conceição hat- trick ousts holders Germany; UEFA, 6 October 2003 the national side had guaranteed first place in the first two rounds, so it played mostly with substitutes, but he cemented his place in the starting XI for the rest of the tournament and subsequent call-ups. Tyler Wotherspoon made his NHL debut on March 7 after being recalled on an emergency basis following an injury to Dennis Wideman. Due to the number of call-ups, the Flames played eight rookies in the same game for the first time since December 10, 1996. Also on March 7, the Flames fêted former star Joe Nieuwendyk as he was inducted into the team's "Forever a Flame" program. A former team captain, Niewuendyk was a 1985 draft pick of the Flames and was a member of the team's 1989 Stanley Cup championship squad. The evening included a banner raising ceremony as Nieuwendyk's #25 was honoured and raised to the Saddledome rafters. The Flames ended the night with a three-goal outburst late in their contest against the New York Islanders and secure a 4–3 victory. The Flames largest win of the season came on March 22 against the Oilers; the 8–1 score represented the largest margin of victory by the Flames in Edmonton in the history of the Battle of Alberta. Curtis Glencross recorded a hat-trick in the victory that also featured an emotional goal by Matt Stajan on a penalty shot.
They went on a slump that brought their record under .500 in the beginning of September. From there, the Blue Jays finished the season 80–82 while receiving glimpses of the future from September call-ups Guillermo Quiróz, John-Ford Griffin, and Shaun Marcum. Marcum made himself noteworthy by posting an ERA of 0.00 over 5 relief appearances and 8 innings in September. Griffin hit his first career home run in the last game of the season and ended up going 4 for 13. Josh Towers also stepped up, showing largely unseen potential going 7–5 with a 2.91 ERA in the 2nd half of the year and a 13–12, 3.71 ERA season overall, making him arguably the unlikely ace of the Jays rotation with Halladay injured and Gustavo Chacín faltering somewhat after the All-Star break. The 2005 Jays inability to score with men in scoring position was a turning point in many games that ended up as losses, also contributing to the 80-82 record, although as a positive, the team did improve by 13 wins and returned to their usual 80-win plateau. On October 9, the Jays, along with their fans, mourned the loss of inaugural broadcaster Tom Cheek.
