These gradually replaced the longer surfer hair and Harry Styles haircuts popular among teenagers and young men since 2010. In the Americas and the Middle East, the military haircut and buzzcut are relatively popular among balding men, or the side parted hair with some volume on the top, inspired by footballer Cristiano Ronaldo.

For African- American and black men in general, mohawk variants of the Afro, The 360 Waves, jheri curl and The Taper were popular in the early to mid 2010s, as are shaved patterns or "steps" into variants of the buzzcut. The High Top Fade, often with a bleached blonde streak inspired by Wiz Khalifa, came back into style among African American youth on the West Coast. Starting from late 2014, variants of tapered Dreadlocks and Hair twists hair styles became widely popular amongst many black teens and young men. From 2014 some teens and young men wore their hair in a type of topknot or "man bun" reminiscent of the samurai hairstyles in wuxia movies.

When Van Driessen suggests that they stop celebrating and instead show some respect to the dead, a furious Coach Buzzcut talks down to him, saying that it took everything he had not to kill both of them and that he hoped their deaths were slow and painful. Undeterred, Van Driessen suggests that the school start a fund in Beavis and Butt-Head's memory for scholarships. McVicker agrees to the fund, but instead wants to use it to raise money for other things around the school such as a new teachers' lounge, claiming that the boys owe the school money for all the damage they caused over the years. Shortly thereafter, Beavis and Butt-Head finally find something worth watching as the local TV station has a report on dead bodies at the school.

The piece is designed by Bethany Wells, produced by Emma Beverly and the production managed by Louis Gregory who developed the piece with the support of BUZZCUT. Race Cards has been (re) staged at a number of venues and in a variety of contexts and forms around the UK: it was part of the Birmingham’s FIERCE festival, performed at the Leeds Central Library during the Yorkshire Festival and at London’s Toynbee Studios as a part of a Nation’s Theatre Festival of work from a plethora of artists and places around the UK. Originally the piece had started as a theatre performance which then evolved to become a durational piece of work and a travelling installation, which is currently (winter 2019) installed at BAM in Brooklyn, New York. Throughout the piece there are a wide variety of questions that were asked which had been numbered: “65. Are you black, or are you ‘new black’?” “170.
