LONDON, Oct 16 (Reuters) - Corporate travel bookings start-up TravelPerk has raised $44 million in new venture funding and is on track to more than triple bookings to 1 million next year as it aims to transform the business travel market.
But at that point, says CEO and co-founder Avi Meir, the startup started talking with companies it was hoping to target — and found there were a lot more problems associated with booking business travel which it could be focusing on.

Tech workers in the area have already been affected by fears of the virus spreading: Silicon Valley venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz has been asking visitors to avoid handshakes due to the coronavirus outbreak, and other tech companies are taking action by halting business travel to China, according to Recode. 
Valid excuses include being a student at a college or university out of state or out of the country, being on business travel or vacation outside of the country or your city of residence on Election Day or having an illness, injury, or disability that prevents someone from getting to a polling place.

But the wider problem with the space TravelPerk is attacking is that existing corporate travel booking platforms are outdated and unpleasant to use, argues Meir, who reckons a third phase of business travel booking systems is coming down the pipe — after the original travel agent booking model that arose in the 1950s and 60s, via companies like American Express.

"While Callender regularly used the Gearbox credit card for anticipated business expenses such as airfare and meals related to business travel, he also abused the privilege of credit card access by charging unapproved, wholly personal expenses, including family vacations, gun club memberships and firearms accessories, and trying to get six-pack abs," Gearbox attorneys alleged in their lawsuit.
