Briery Creek Wildlife Management Area is a Wildlife Management Area in Prince Edward County, Virginia. With terrain typical of Virginia's south-central Piedmont, it encompasses the Briery Creek Lake, a reservoir formed by the damming of Briery Creek and Little Briery Creek. Much of the area was historically used for tobacco farming, and more recently, timber production; today the land contains a mixture of hardwoods and loblolly pine. Briery Creek Wildlife Management Area is owned and maintained by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.

Briery Church is a historic Presbyterian Church located at Briery, Prince Edward County, Virginia. While the congregation dates as far back as 1755, the present building was designed by Rev. Robert Lewis Dabney (1820-1898) and built about 1855. It is a one-story, board-and-batten covered frame structure with a T-shaped plan.

In the 1940s, the area now known as Carolina Forest was used as a practice bombing range. Although Tuckahoe Bay was undisturbed, other Carolina bays around the area were, including Briery Bay which is located east of the Plantation Lakes neighborhood.

Hunting is not permitted on the former wildlife area. Before the ban in 2011, a special, free, annual hunting permit was required from Camp Dawson headquarters to hunt on Briery Mountain. The area had been occasionally closed when military training exercises are conducted.

US 15 enters Prince Edward County as Farmville Road and crosses over Norfolk Southern Railway's Blue Ridge District west of the hamlet of Briery. The U.S. Highway passes through the hamlets of Redd Shop and Worsham before reaching Kingsville, where the highway intersects SR 133. SR 133 heads west to the community of Hampden Sydney and its namesake college.

Coal was mined in the Briery Creek Watershed near Prince Edward Courthouse from as early as 1834 and by the Piedmont Mining Company in the 1860s. Daddow and Bannon, in 1866, described seven or eight coal seams ranging from 0.5 to 3.0 feet thick every 300 feet. They also reported that natural anthracite in some places. The individual seams were irregular and contained sulfur and other impurities.

The area is open to the public for hunting and trapping; game species include deer, turkey, quail, rabbits, and waterfowl. Fishing and boating is facilitated by two boat ramps on Briery Creek Lake. Other permissible activities include hiking, horseback riding, and primitive camping. Access for persons 17 years of age or older requires a valid hunting or fishing permit, a current Virginia boat registration, or a WMA access permit.

Briery Wood Heronry is a 5.7 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in the grounds of Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire. This is the largest heronry in the county, with up to thirty breeding pairs. The dominant trees are mature oaks and ash, with a ground flora of bracken and dog's mercury. The wood is in an area of the grounds which is not open to the public.

The choir is currently working on a variety of new material, including popular and folk music. In November 2014, Emma Manners, Duchess of Rutland appointed Timothy Grayson as the castle's poet-in-residence. Briery Wood Heronry is a biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in the grounds. Belvoir Castle was used as a stand-in for Windsor Castle in the second series of British television series The Crown.

Runners continue north to Briery Branch Gap before retracing their steps (without summiting Elliott & Reddish) back along the course to Camp Shenandoah. Runners climb a cumulative total of 23,200 feet (7,140m) and descend a total of 23,200 feet (7,140m) on mountain trails before reaching the finish. All sub-38 hour finishers receive a Grindstone 100 Belt Buckle, and a finishers shirt. First place overall male and female runners will receive the Grindstone Champion's trophy.

Forest Road 112 leading up to the summit, today paved Paved access is from U.S. Route 33/West Virginia Route 28 about south of Riverton. Briery Gap Road (County Route 33/4), Forest Road 112 and Forest Road 104 have been reconstructed and paved to provide a hard- surfaced road to the summit. Forest Roads 104 and 112 are not maintained in the winter. Impassable conditions can be expected any time from mid-October to mid-April.

May Bird lives alone with her mother and her cat, Somber Kitty (a Sphynx cat), on the edge of a wooded swamp in West Virginia. She loves to draw and make believe, but does not fit in at school. Most people are not very comfortable in the woods, but “The woods of Briery Swamp fit May Bird like a fuzzy mitten.” There, she is safe from school and the taunts and teases of the kids who do not understand her.

Rickmansworth Grammar School was the fifth grammar school to be built after the war. The school was built on the site of a house called Briery Close, which had been the residence of the vicar of Rickmansworth but had fallen vacant before the war. Because building at the site ran late, the first intake in September 1953 was housed in a school in Oxhey, until the Scots Hill premises opened in September 1954. The school was formally opened on 20 June 1956 by Countess Mountbatten of Burma.

Running northeast to southwest through Preston, Tucker, Barbour, and Randolph Counties, the ridge forms portions of the borders between them. It stretches for about from the Cheat River (near the town of Manheim) in the north to the Tygart Valley River (near the town of Aggregates) in the south. It achieves its highest elevation at the Eliot Benchmark (3,157 ft/962 m) about north of Pleasure Valley. The mountain is formed by the same structural fold in the Earth's crust which continues north from Laurel as Briery Mountains (north of Cheat River) and south as Rich Mountain (south of the Tygart Valley River).

The younger Smith, who was ordained and elected president of Hampden–Sydney on the same day his brother resigned, managed to revive the flagging enterprise, and, with the assistance of Trustee Patrick Henry, then Governor of Virginia, persuaded the General Assembly of Virginia to grant a charter in 1783 – bestowing the power to grant degrees and establish a self-perpetuating Board. Smith was also pastor in Cumberland and Briery, as these positions were part of the college presidency. At Hampden-Sydney, Smith also added the theology school. John Blair Smith resigned in 1789, accepting a call as pastor to church in Philadelphia.
