At Cinco de Cuatro, Buster knocks Herbert unconscious with his prosthetic hand after being told by Perfecto Telles (an anti-bullying squad member defending Maeby) that Herbert is a bully. His storyline in the fourth season ends with him being arrested for Lucille Austero's murder after being seen around the staircar where her body went missing. First appearing in "Masquerade", Clay romances Amanda, and briefly marries Sammy Jo. He is later involved with Leslie Carrington, but when it is revealed he may also be Ben's son (and Leslie's brother), he breaks it off and leaves town in "Shadow Play". ;Benjamin "Ben" Carrington (Christopher Cazenove, 1986–1987) :Blake's vengeful younger brother of Blake, who was cut off by Blake after the death of their mother.

Supervisory Special Agent Paula Cassidy (Jessica Steen) is a criminal profiler for NCIS, who first appears in the episode "Minimum Security". An expert on Middle Eastern terrorists, she works as an interrogator at Guantanamo Bay. During "Minimum Security", she is viewed with suspicion by Gibbs as the deceased victim in the episode had letters containing her name. She develops a romantic relationship with DiNozzo and the two seemingly stay in contact, but she breaks it off at the end of "Heart Break" after hearing nothing from him (or possibly due to her anger at Gibbs giving her grief).

James Martinez and new detective Adrienne Lesniak begin an affair, but Lesniak later breaks it off, because her last relationship with a fellow cop ended disastrously, and tells Medavoy (Martinez's partner and the squad gossip) that she is gay. After James is shot, recovers, and returns to work, and Lesniak and he get to know each other, she admits that the story she told Medavoy was a lie. Her resistance lowered, Rae becomes the lover of Paul, meeting secretly with him at a house near Paris that he buys.

Simi falls in love, and dances her heart out in the qualifier round, which leads to GNDU winning the ticket to the finals in London. The qualifier round results lead to a crowd clash between the two teams, and Jaggi gets injured in the leg while trying to break off the fights. Upset, Jaggi then ignores Simi, breaks it off with his team, and returns to his village, where he eventually reunites with the village Bhangra group, Pendu Club, run by his father. Pendu Club starts making dance videos and enters the competition in London through crowdfunding.

Each admits that they miss the other. They briefly reunite, but when Eddie reappears in Joey's life, she breaks it off with Pacey (ironically Pacey and Joey break up at another high school dance resembling the prom). After Pacey and Dawson have another falling out after Pacey's stocks tank and Dawson loses his entire investment, Joey decides that it's time they worked things out for themselves without her in the middle because it "is not her fight" and that it never has been, and never will be. After a heart to heart with Pacey on the dock, Joey brings everyone together to help Dawson make his movie.

Angela has long loved James Belford, who her Aunt Connie thinks unsuitable; when he goes away to work on a farm in America, she becomes engaged to Lord Heacham, but breaks it off on the return of her true love, in "Pig-hoo-o-o-o- ey".

In series three, Janet is promoted to Acting Detective Sergeant.

In "The Unrivaled Standard", his old flame Renee Royce returns to Chicago and asks to testify at a hearing of a fellow firefighter, much to Kidd's dismay. In "The Grand Gesture", after Royce kisses Severide, he breaks it off with her and goes to Kidd, when Kidd sees Severide on her bed.

The film is loosely based on the 1974 novel Los Andes no creen en Dios by Adolfo Costa du Rels and two short stories by the same author, La Misk'isimi (Sweet Lips in Quechua) and Plata del diablo (The Devil's Silver). The film is set in the late 1920s in the small and remote mining town of Uyuni in the highlands of Bolivia, lying between a vast salt desert and towering mountains. The hero is Alfonso Claros, a young writer who has been educated in France and who arrives in Uyuni seeking to make his fortune in mining. He begins an affair with the sultry mestizo Claudina, but breaks it off due to local prejudice.

Bobbie appears to enjoy the dominating treatment, and quickly signals her husband to apologize. Later, she comes to Don with a TV pitch called "Grin and Barrett", a Candid Camera-type show, featuring her husband using his insult comic skills as the host. The two resume their affair after a brief hiatus following the accident, but Don breaks it off completely and abruptly, when Bobbie reveals to him that she and other women with whom Don has had affairs have been discussing his prowess as a lover.

The second half deals with the girls' attempts to learn more about what happened during the summer, who "A" is, and how to bring Alison home. Meanwhile, Spencer begins taking amphetamines to help cope with the workload from school, but develops a dependency on them, igniting a drug problem that, unbeknownst to the others, occurred before. Aria grows closer to Ezra, whom the other girls believe is "A", but breaks it off after learning that he has actually been writing a book about Alison's disappearance and knew her when they met. Hanna mends her broken heart by pursuing a relationship with Travis (Luke Kleintank) and an interest in mystery novels, which lead to a friendship with Detective Holbrook (Sean Faris).

They have three young children—a boy, Zack; a girl, Alley; and an unnamed baby—to whom Beau is very close. Beth, who is emotionally unstable, eventually empties out their house in the third season, disappears with the children, and does as much as she can to prevent him from seeing his children. When Lt. Megan Russert is introduced in the first episode of the third season, Felton is already having an affair with her, although she breaks it off very soon after. When Beth leaves, Felton begins to drink heavily and his police work suffers as a result; Howard becomes disgusted with him following a binge in which he loses crucial evidence for a seemingly unsolvable case, assigned to her from the late Steve Crosetti's caseload.

Nikos' father, unaware of the switch and thinking that Nikos and "Vicky" (Stella) are just acting out, devises a plan to get them back together and pretends to be gravely ill to force them to reconcile and get married. Nikos travels to Australia to convince Stella to pretend they are back together and, moved by Lykourgos' "illness", she accepts and returns to Greece with Nikos (having become friends with him along the way) to prepare their mariage blanc. Soon, she and Sotiris consummate their relationship but he breaks it off since he believes Stella is the future wife of his brother. In the meantime, Grigoris lost track of Vicky for a few days and, thinking she went back to Australia, decided to go and search for her.

Once Layla figures out the truth about Fish's sexuality, though, she breaks it off with him. But a romantic relationship is non existent between Layla and Cristian at this point because after the messy break up with Fish, she declares she has sworn off of men, leading Cristian to back off, even though there obviously are still mutual romantic feelings between the two. Many weeks later the two share a kiss and Layla admits to wanting it as much as he did; but she also says it can't go any further because she feels like she's betraying Evangeline. Cristian moves out of the apartment and back in with his mom and has been miserable without Layla, his mom notices this and tells Cris to call Layla but he says he won't.

Whittlesey is introduced as the supervisor of the guards in Emerald City, Unit Manager Tim McManus' experimental cell block, first seen when a new group of inmates, including Tobias Beecher and Miguel Alvarez, arrive at Oz. She helps to keep prisoners' records and to stop any conflicts between inmates. Eventually, she and McManus form an attraction and even have sex inside an empty cell while avoiding the execution of Jefferson Keane. However, when the two receive flak from their fellow staff members over their relationship, particularly by Mike Healy, she breaks it off with McManus, who despite his reputation for bed-hopping and womanizing reacts poorly. Eventually, Whittlesey gets some bad news — Oz has made a contract with the Department of Corrections that, as a condition, will no longer allow officers to work overtime, severely impacting her finances.

When he tells Alan whom he bumped into, Alan warns Walden, but Walden interrupts and tells him she explained everything about what happened with Charlie and that when you're in love, it makes you do crazy things; however Alan knows she is lying. Walden later begins to see that Alan was right about her when she moves all of her things into the house after only mentioning staying. He goes to break up with her when Zoey reveals she would like to get back together, but Rose becomes enraged and orders her ferrets to attack him, even leaving them in his car to attack him, but instead attacks Alan. However Rose arrives at Zoey's apartment pretending to be pregnant, telling her that the baby is Walden's, so Zoey gets angry and breaks it off with Walden for good.

Don is heartbroken after Sylvia breaks it off, but she reminds him that he was happy with Megan once and can be so again. Nevertheless, Don becomes obsessed with Sylvia and of thinking of ways to get her back. In the Season 6 episode "The Crash", while all of SCDP has been injected with a stimulant so they can work through the night to come up with work for Chevy, Don works feverishly too, but it turns out he's focused only on thinking of an inspiration to get Sylvia back, not with inspiration for Chevy. Elements of Sylvia's physical appearance, such as her brunette hair and a facial mole, and her wearing a headwrap and kimono remind Don of his stepmother Abigail and of the maternal prostitute, Aimée Swenson, who forcibly initiated his first sexual act when he was a young teen.
