Samantha Kay Sault, the daughter of Kathy D. Sault and William J. Sault of Rockville, Md., was married March 11 to Matthew Jay Lauer, a son of Maribeth M. Lauer and Charles E. Lauer of Mount Pleasant, S.C. Deborah Braize, a civil officer for the Canton of Geneva, officiated at city hall in Geneva.

Braize is a commune in the Allier department in central France.

In the 1930s, Braize had a half dozen vineyards of 30 to 40 hectares. Currently, there are about a half dozen farms raising primarily cattle and sheep. Tourist activities include fishing and camping.

Map of Braize. At its widest point, the commune is 8 km across, stretching from the Cher department to the Rond des Landes Blanches. It lies in a valley oriented east and west from La Pacaudière to Les Ris, the lowest point in the commune. Much of the valley is swampy.

The D28 comes from Braize in the south-west to the town then continues north to join the D951. The D64 goes east from the town to Valigny. There are several country roads in the commune linking the villages and hamlets inside. These include Le Castinerie, Salvert, La Bete, Saint-Benin, Charnoux, La Moullin de la Riviere, and L'Amour.

Its oaks, planted by Louis XIV's minister Jean- Baptiste Colbert to supply the French Navy, constitute one of the principal stands of oaks in Europe. Within the forest boundaries are the communes of Braize, Cérilly, Isle-et-Bardais, Le Brethon, Meaulne, Saint-Bonnet-Tronçais, Urçay, Valigny and Vitray. It is mainly made up of sessile oak. It also contains of ponds and is deemed by many as the most-beautiful oakwood in Europe.

Bridge and 100 mm gun turret of Maille Braize Five ships – D'Estrées, Maillé-Brézé, Vauquelin, Casabianca and Guépratte – were modernised as anti-submarine destroyers in 1968–1970. D'Estrées had served as the trial vessel for French variable depth sonar in the early 1960s. The armament was modified to two Mod 53 guns, one Mod 1972 375 mm sextuple anti-submarine rocket launcher, one Malafon anti-submarine missile launcher and two 20 mm guns. The Malafon system was installed aft with the magazine located directly in front of it.

The forest constitutes the most part of the massif du Tronçais, a highland region which spans about and is part of the Massif Central. The massif is located in the Allier department of the Bourbonnais region. The oakwood spans the communes of Braize (776 ha), Cérilly, Allier (1,788 ha), Couleuvre (405 ha), Isle-et-Bardais (2,788 ha), Le Brethon (1,400 ha), Meaulne (112 ha), Saint- Bonnet-Tronçais (1,176 ha), Urçay (343 ha), Valigny (17 ha) and Vitray (1,728 ha).
