The Field Tack Works was established in leased space in Taunton beginning in the 1820s. Albert Field purchased this property in the 1850s, and soon expanded. Bradbray Apartment is a UK band originally formed in Stafford, England in 1987. Also known by their fans as "The Brads", the band are known for their unique mix of post-punk power along with vintage synths with big catchy choruses and a steady thumping rhythm section. Having separated in late 1989, the band reformed in the summer of 2014 after a local newspaper ran a 25th anniversary piece on their 1989 gig at Covent Garden in London. This prompted the lead singer to get in touch with his old bandmates which led to the reformation.

Partch tuned the Adapted Viola an octave below the violin and the brads inserted into the instrument fingerboard are placed at ratios commonly used in Partch's works. The museum opened on October 29, 1988 and is housed in what it calls its largest artifact, the former Columbia Mills Building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. When the mill opened in 1894, manufacturing cotton duck cloth (a canvas-like material), it was the first totally electric textile mill in the world. It was also the first major industrial installation for the General Electric corporation. On certain levels of the museum, the original flooring has been kept intact, distinguishable by hundreds of textile brads and rings (that carried the threads during the spinning process) that became embedded in the floor while it was still being used as a mill.
