" He went on to compare the film unfavorably to The Shining, a similar King adaptation, believing 1408 lacked that film's "lunging horror and dramatic architecture." Although he believed the film "conjures a wonderful anticipatory mood of dread in the first 30 minutes," he ultimately believed the film "then blows it to stylish smithereens". Rob Salem of the Toronto Star awarded the film two stars out of four, believing it to be a predictable, "hit and miss" production. Like Morris, Salem wrote that "Even as haunted hotel King movies go, 1408 is certainly no Shining.
However every time he gets close the wind blows it further away. Meanwhile, above him, the pilot is now involved in a dogfight with a German triplane while simultaneously struggling to keep control of his bear which keeps coming loose from its safe place in his cockpit. Below on the ground, the infantryman has caught up with his photograph, but he doesn't realise he has wandered into the sights of a German sniper.
A free-falling object without any adaptation to flight can only be sustained by the wind if it is very light and falls more slowly than the wind blows it upwards. A sufficiently light object can make use of updrafts and drift on the wind in this way for long periods of time. Many mould and bacterial spores, even live bacteria, are small enough to drift for long distances and to great heights on the wind. Some plants also use the wind for seed dispersal in this way.
In the first scene of Philip Glass's opera Akhnaten, the phrase "Open are the double doors of the horizon" is a quotation from the Pyramid Texts. More specifically, it seems to come from Utterance 220. The American death metal band Nile made a song, "Unas Slayer of the Gods" which contains many references to the Pyramid Texts, including the Cannibal Hymn. In the 2001 action-adventure movie, The Mummy Returns, when Imhotep gets a jar full of dust and blows it, he quotes part of the Utterance 373 and the dust turns into mummy warriors.

An example of a fire starting technique involves using a black powder firearm if one is available. Proper gun safety is to be known with this technique to avoid potential injury or death. The technique involves ramming cotton cloth or wadding down the barrel of the firearm until the cloth is against the powder charge. Next, the gun is fired upwards to avoid hitting oneself, then one proceeds to run and pick up the cloth that is projected out of the barrel, and then blows it into flame.

Wang Chong's (c. 80 CE) Lunheng "Discourse Balance" uses ganying once to criticize prognostications from the Fengjia 風家 "School of Wind". > In regard to the Six Passions [六情: cheerfulness, anger, grief, joy, love, > and hatred] the expositors of the wind theory maintain that, when the wind > blows, robbers and thieves set to work under its influence [感應], but the > nature of robbers and thieves cannot move Heaven to send the wind. When the > wind blows, it has a strange influence on perverted minds so, that robbers > and thieves do their deeds.

Feigenbaum recalled: > "Written and widely circulated before the outbreak of the World War, it had > an important influence on the American people. It struck with sledgehammer > blows, it marshaled facts and figures, seasoned them with irony and fierce > earnestness, and flung the challenge of its title into a world that would be > infinitely better off today if it had been heeded." The work catapulted Kirkpatrick to prominence in the ranks of the Socialist Party of America. In 1916, a mail referendum of Socialist Party members elected Kirkpatrick as the party's Vice Presidential nominee, topping St. Louis feminist Kate Richards O'Hare in the contest.
Drake, taken by religious fervour, dies atop his house as the King blows it up to create a fire break to prevent further spread of the fire. Soon after Drake's death, Newton and Daniel return to Cambridge and begin lecturing. A flashforward finds Daniel's ship under attack by the fleet of Edward Teach (Blackbeard) in 1713. Then the story returns to the past as Daniel and Newton return to London: Newton is under the patronage of Louis Anglesey, the Earl of Upnor, and Daniel becomes secretary of the Royal Society when Henry Oldenburg is detained by the King for his active foreign correspondence.
Ekman transport occurs when ocean surface waters are influenced by the friction force acting on them via the wind. As the wind blows it casts a friction force on the ocean surface that drags the upper 10-100m of the water column with it. However, due to the influence of the Coriolis effect, the ocean water moves at a 90° angle from the direction of the surface wind. The direction of transport is dependent on the hemisphere: in the northern hemisphere, transport occurs at 90° clockwise from wind direction, while in the southern hemisphere it occurs at a 90° counterclockwise.
The rhino's death in the original editions was one of several sequences in the early Adventures later described by Hergé as a "transgression of [his] youth". When Tintin in the Congo was first released by the series' Scandinavian publishers in 1975, they objected to page 56, where Tintin drills a hole into a live rhinoceros, fills it with dynamite, and blows it up. They asked Hergé to replace this page with a less violent scene, which they believed would be more suitable for children. Hergé agreed, as he regretted the scenes of big- game hunting in the work soon after producing it.

The album was met with positive reviews, David Jeffries of AllMusic said Let's Get It takes the lightheaded and lighthearted club hit "She Twerkin" and blows it up to an album, as "Stunt on Ya Haters" and "She Wanna Ride" come packaged in the same mix of stoned and slick. "Mexico" introduces the rapper's ridiculous Latino accent imitation, which pops up like a weird Speedy Gonzales character throughout the LP, while the well-chosen guest list of French Montana, Waka Flocka Flame, and Rich Homie Quan are all simpatico with the hardcore yet hedonistic world of Ca$h Out.

During the miniseries Identity Crisis, it was revealed that the main reason for this animosity was the opposing views that he and Green Arrow took on the mindwipe of Doctor Light, to the point that they came to blows. It appears, since his rebirth, that Carter Hall has integrated a lot of Katar Hol into his core being. He physically looks like a merger of Katar and himself, while also using the more rugged superhero attire that was a trademark of Katar Hol. Although he has Katar's dark hair, his voice and face appear to be his own as he is easily recognized by Jay Garrick upon return.

In February 2014, Taeyeon joined the roster of SM the Ballad, a ballad group initially formed by SM Entertainment in 2010, contributing her vocals to their second album Breath.
In 2005, the organization was criticized by some of Canada's gay press for failing to submit a brief, after indicating an intention to do so, to the Canadian House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights regarding the potential impact on LGBT communities of Bill C-2, a controversial piece of legislation that revised the age of sexual consent. Xtra! asserted that Egale was devoting so much time and effort to advocacy around same-sex marriage that it was missing the boat on other important issues.Gareth Kirkby, "Egale blows it on speaking out about dangers of Bill C-2" . Xtra!, July 14, 2005.

When he gets home from work, a friend is at his house for a drink which he doesn't recall arranging, and an attractive girl at the company swimming pool casts him a knowing glance. At bedtime he and his wife have a somewhat tense but amicable discussion about their recent lack of a love life. His wife also notices a mysterious silver car (a Lamborghini Islero) which she sees parked outside their house, but gives it no further thought. The driver of the car is then seen lighting a cigarette and snapping the match stick in half after he blows it out, exactly as Pelham does.
Shelley also mentions that when the West Wind blows, it seems to be singing a funeral song about the year coming to an end and that the sky covered with a dome of clouds looks like a "sepulchre", i.e., a burial chamber or grave for the dying year or the year which is coming to an end. Shelley in this canto "expands his vision from the earthly scene with the leaves before him to take in the vaster commotion of the skies". This means that the wind is now no longer at the horizon and therefore far away, but he is exactly above us.
A music video was made for "You Weren't There". The first scene depicts a girl waking up on a platform overlooking a lake with a picture in her hand, but when she steps up to the railing and looks at the photograph, the wind rips it out of her hands and blows it away, to her visible disappointment. It then cuts to Marlin singing the opening verse in a small, empty classroom, followed by the girl from the opening seen having romantic moments with the man in the photograph. During the chorus, the lovers are shown happily jumping into the lake, then sitting on dry ground sharing a kiss.
A young accountant named George is standing on an elevated train platform in the 1940s at New York City, holding a folder, when he is hit by a flying piece of paper. The paper is chased by a young woman named Meg who lost it to a gust of wind from a passing train. The same thing happens to George when a subsequent gust of wind from another incoming train dislodges one of the papers from his folder and blows it into Meg's face, leaving a lipstick- smudged kiss imprinted on the paper, much to her amusement when George retrieves it. He is entranced by the lipstick mark and Meg's beauty, and therefore misses her boarding the departing train.
Miho seems to look out for Kimiko, rescuing her from a building shortly before Ed blows it up and trying to frighten Dom off when he tries to badger Kimiko to join his company (although Kimiko is the one who succeeds in driving off Dom, Miho is still able to collapse his car with one hand). Miho later hides Kimiko in the Cave of Evil and asks her why she allows the fanboys to "devour" her. Kimiko explains that she needs to work on the "Sight" project to make Kotone become alive. Miho seems touched at this and helps her get back to the "Sight" offices along with alerting Piro to everything that happened.
During one of his many chases with the Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote is hit with a briefcase, thrown from a crook's car that is evading the police. The briefcase is actually a spy kit containing several gadgets, along with a black coat and spy hat that Wile E. wears throughout the cartoon. The gadgets Wile E. attempts on the Road Runner (which all result in failure as usual), include: # Sleeping gas: Road Runner dodges the gas and blows it back at Wile E., who sleepwalks off a cliff. # Do-it-yourself time bomb that Wile E. mails to the Road Runner (to nowhere particular), but is returned to the Coyote by Road Runner (disguised as a mailman) for insufficient postage.
He continues on, up into a tree, where he rips a vine off one branch and ties a loop in one end like a lasso. The looped end he allows to fall to the ground, but when the prehistoric Bugs passes by, he pulls on the string and Elmer falls down. Next, the prehistoric Elmer grabs a hollow stick, into one end of which he places a poisonous berry, but as he prepares to blow it at Bugs, he suffers the effects of the projectile's consumption as the rabbit blows it in his mouth first. Bugs asks him: "What's up, Doc?" whereupon Elmer blasts the "tweachewous wabbit" for not allowing him to hunt him and thus provide his killer's family with clothes and food.

Referring to the Park51 Muslim community center proposed for construction near the Ground Zero site of the September 11, 2001, attacks in New York City, Berry stated on his May 26, 2010, KPRC program that if the center were to be completed, "I hope that someone blows it up". The following day, he addressed his audience, issuing a statement which said in part, "I apologize to you, my listeners, for insulting your intelligence and saying something so stupid. I do not apologize, however, for my opinion that that mosque should not be built." In 2012, Berry was accused of using slur on Twitter during First Lady Michelle Obama's speech at that year's 2012 Democratic National Convention when he tweeted that black people are shooting each other during the speech along with the hashtag "#knuckadeads," in which some people allege is a substitute for "nigga".
When Dawg informs Henery that Foghorn is a chicken as they see the rooster doing pull-ups, Dawg convinces him to put Foghorn in a cooking pot and cook him. When Henery does so, the heat from the fire causes Foghorn to rocket out in pain and crash-land into some trash where the rooster quickly figures out Dawg was responsible for what had just happened ("I ju..., I say, I just know that marble-headed mongrel is back of all this."). Foghorn's next pranks after that end up backfiring on him. When he constructs an elaborate pipeline to blow a stick of dynamite out of Dawg's kennel with the intention of blowing him up, while he tries to light a lighter to ignite the dynamite ("this is gonna cause more confusion than a mouse at a burlesque show"), Dawg lights a match from his side and blows it over to Foghorn where it ignites the fuse on the dynamite just as he lights his lighter.
Beginning in the eleventh century, European soldiers and knights relied on chain mail for protection of their bodies, and chain armor "shirts" with wide sleeves that hung to the elbow were common. However, it wasn't until the twelfth century that chain mail shirts with longer, narrower sleeves began to be worn, and these on occasion had chain mail mittens or "muffs" resembling fingerless gloves and with a pocket for the thumb (though some of these did have complete fingers as well). These attached at the lower edge of the sleeve, and protected the wearer's hands from cuts and lacerations during combat but offered no protection against crushing blows. It wasn't until the early fourteenth century that armorers began to design fully articulated plate armor: along with this development of the use of plates as a means of protecting the body from blows was the development of hand protection in the form of gauntlets made of overlapping plates of steel.
Tom, now wearing a bowl as an improvised helmet, throws a stick of dynamite towards Jerry, who immediately throws it back to Tom; this continues until Jerry performs reverse psychology by taking it from Tom, provoking the cat to steal it back and this new cycle to continue until Jerry leaves Tom to witlessly hold the stick, which explodes. Jerry jumps into a tea kettle to escape the cat's wrath, but Tom sees him and throws another firecracker into the kettle; Jerry panics, but the oxygen has run out and the mouse escapes through the spout with no explosion. The puzzled cat opens the kettle's lid and sticks his entire head in just as the firecracker goes off, making him like a sunflower (the sunflower gag was removed on Cartoon Network in the late 1990s and early 2000s due to the short’s blackface reference). Continuing his attempts to blow up the mouse, Tom launches a Paper plane with a firecracker hidden on top, but Jerry blows it back beneath Tom, who barely spots the firecracker before it goes off and is again black in the face.
Faced with the apparent danger of the 2nd Armoured Division's disintegration which he perceived from its chaotic radio-traffic as it struggled to cope with the rolling blows it was receiving, he ordered the forces under him to fall back eastward in an uncoordinated fashion to avoid being cut off and completely destroyed by the sudden advance of the enemy. On 6 April 1941, while driving in a small convoy of vehicles to a newly established Headquarters, Neame and his travelling companions, Lieutenant- General Richard O'Connor (who had been rapidly dispatched to join Neame's Headquarters by General Archibald Wavell who was alarmed at the apparent collapse of Neame's forces) and Brigadier John Combe, were over-run and captured by a German advanced force led by Gerhard von Schwerin. Disaster was averted for the majority of the forces under Neame's command through a rapid retreat by the 9th Australian Division into the coastal town of Tobruk, where it was joined by 3 Indian Motor Brigade, and surviving remnants of 2nd Armoured Division (most of which had been over-run and captured in the rout), in hastily organising a defensive perimeter, which would go on to withstand the Axis Forces' subsequent extended siege.Mead (2007), p.
