Roth offers to betray the Templars and form an alliance with the Rooks, which Jacob accepts.

Pallet on the Floor is a 1986 New Zealand made drama/comedy, based on the final novel by Ronald Hugh Morrieson. Shot in 1983 at Patea, partly in a closed-down abattoir, the film was given limited release in New Zealand three years later. The main role of abattoir worker Sam Jamieson is played by veteran actor Peter McCauley. Pallet on the Floor is the only feature film directed by Lynton Butler, who earlier made One of those Blighters, a television production which fictionalised Morrieson's life.

Excerpts from Morrieson's writings were dramatised for 1982 television production One of those Blighters. The first feature film based on a Morrieson novel was The Scarecrow (1982), which was released in some territories as "Klynham Summer". Featuring American horror legend John Carradine as a mysterious stranger who arrives in 50s-era small town New Zealand, it was the first New Zealand film selected for the Director's Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival. The most successful film based on Morrieson's work remains the ensemble comedy Came a Hot Friday (1984), which became one of the most successful local films released in New Zealand during the 1980s.

That decade he won a New Zealand Feltex Award for playing aviator Richard Pearse in a television film of the same title, and was nominated again for playing a British general in the historical miniseries The Governor, the most expensive TV drama made in New Zealand in that decade. Sanderson's work as a screen director included a number of shorts featuring New Zealand poets, plus the 1989 feature Flying Fox in a Freedom Tree. Based on a work by Albert Wendt, Flying Fox is about a young Samoan caught between the values of his homeland and European colonisers. He wrote a documentary One of those Blighters on Ronald Hugh Morrieson and the screenplay for the 1986 film of Morrieson's last novel, Pallet on the Floor.
