Highway 33, also known since 1984 as the Loyalist Parkway, follows a pioneer colonial route on which the first segments were built two hundred years prior. The route connects several historical settlement sites in Prince Edward County, continuing east through Bath to what is now Kingston. Reeve Township was organized on 12 May 1817 at the first meeting of the Daviess County Commissioners. It was named for its earliest resident, South Carolina native Joshua Reeve, who had settled in the township in 1808. As the first settler in the area, Reeve lived in an isolated cabin in the forest; in order to obtain needed supplies, he was forced to travel to Vincennes. Desiring to simplify his travels, Reeve blazed a trail through the woods from his home to Vincennes; in later years, the route became a road, and by the early twentieth century it had become one of the county's leading highways.

In 1819, he blazed a trail that corresponds with the present-day Brookville Road. On March 2, 1819, he built a cabin for his family of seven where Michigan Street currently crosses Pogue's Run. Many aviation firsts occurred during this period. Long-distance flights by pioneers such as Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, Alcock and Brown, Charles Lindbergh and Amy Johnson blazed a trail which new commercial airlines soon followed.
