The first A-10s that deployed to the Middle East to fight the Islamic State in 2014 belonged to the 0003rd Fighter Squadron, or "Blacksnakes," which is part of the 122nd Fighter Wing of the Indiana Air National Guard.

The Blacksnakes finished fifth (last) in each half of the season, going a league-worst 3462 (.354) for the entire season. Attendance was a league-worst 30,244 (643 per game average). Following the addition of two new teams to the league and the cease of operations of the Coastal Bend Aviators, the Blacksnakes disbanded after the 2007 season.

In 2002, Al managed the Duluth–Superior Dukes of the Independent Northern League and stayed with the organization following its move to Kansas City following the 2002 season. From 2003 to 2006 he managed the Kansas City T-Bones in Kansas City, Kansas of the Northern League. On October 16, 2006, Al was fired by the T-Bones but quickly found work with the St. Joseph Blacksnakes of the American Association. He managed the Blacksnakes through the 2007 season, when the team disbanded.

This was purely a political initiated change. The word 'Marksmen' somehow reflected an aggressive undertone which some found offensive. Although this wasn’t the case at all, the squadron decided to change its name into 'Blacksnakes'. The tail scheme of the aircraft was changed accordingly.

The St. Joe Blacksnakes, in Saint Joseph, Missouri, were a member of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball. On December 16, 2005 the team announced that the primary owner would be Van Schley and that the field manager would be Chris Carminucci. On December 27, St. Joe acquired its first player -- outfielder Jake Whitesides from New Jersey. On Tuesday January 10th, pitchers Josh Jarman and Jason Navarro and infielder Josh Shaffer, all of whom played in the Golden Baseball League during the 2005 season, were added to the team. The team announced its name and logo on February 10, 2006, becoming the Blacksnakes.

In 2006, however, Bicknell set the League's single season loss record with 13. He won 7, led the league with 164 innings and only gave up 33 walks. He was slated to be a player/coach with Kansas City in 2007, but was picked up by the St. Joe Blacksnakes of the American Association.

The American Association was founded in October 2005 when the St. Paul Saints, Lincoln Saltdogs, Sioux City Explorers, and Sioux Falls Canaries announced they were leaving the Northern League. Around the same time, the Central Baseball League announced it was disbanding after four seasons. The Fort Worth Cats, Shreveport-Bossier Sports, Pensacola Pelicans, Coastal Bend Aviators, and El Paso Diablos joined the four former Northern League teams and the expansion St. Joe Blacksnakes to form the American Association as a ten-team league. The new league began play in 2006, with a 96-game schedule, which has since expanded to 100 games. 2008 saw the league lose the Blacksnakes and Aviators, with the Grand Prairie AirHogs and Wichita Wingnuts joining in their place. In 2011 and 2012 the league went through a significant shift.

Fireworks was an American garage rock band from Denton, Texas. Fireworks was founded by Darin Lin Wood, a former member of the bands Cop Shoot Cop, '68 Comeback, and The Blacksnakes. In 1993, he founded Fireworks with Chris Merlick. Merlick was an itinerant member, leaving the group and returning several times; its other members included drummer Janet Walker and guitarist James Arthur.

A pocket snake whip can be curled up small enough to fit into a large pocket, and ranges in size from in length. The pocket snake whip is primarily a whip for occasional use, such as in loading cattle. Both of these types of snake whips are made with a leather shot bag running approximately three quarters of the length of the whip. Blacksnakes are the traditional whips used in Montana and Wyoming.

Phil Welch Stadium was the home from 2006 to 2007 to the St. Joe Blacksnakes, a minor-league team competing in the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball. Since 2009 the stadium has been the home of the Saint Joseph Mustangs, a collegiate summer baseball team competing in the M.I.N.K. League. Phil Welch was also the home park of the Missouri Western State University Griffons until the 2011 season. Stadium dimensions are 320-420-320 (left to right).

During fiscal year 1996, the 122d FW was involved in a critical series of rigorous exercises designed to determine our operational readiness in mobility and war fighting capabilities. The 122d FW met every challenge and completed the Operational Readiness Inspection in September 1996 with outstanding results. : F-16s assigned to the 122nd FW and the 127th FW are captured in formation after a routine refuelling from a KC-135R Stratotanker in 2009. In 1997 the name of the squadron was changed from Marksmen to Blacksnakes.

The Sheiks and related groups, such as the Mississippi Mud Steppers and the Blacksnakes, recorded about a hundred sides in the first half of the 1930s, among them original compositions (probably by Vinson), such as "The World Is Going Wrong" and "I've Got Blood in My Eyes for You" (1931) (both recorded by Bob Dylan), and the topical "Sales Tax" (1934). Sam Chatmon made more recordings in the 1960s, and Walter Vinson contributed three selections (under the name of the Mississippi Sheiks) to Riverside's 1961 series Chicago: The Living Legends.

Following the end of the season, the Diablos announced that they would join with several fellow Central League members including the Coastal Bend Aviators, the Fort Worth Cats, the Pensacola Pelicans, and the Shreveport Sports and join with former Northern League teams the Saint Paul Saints, Sioux City Explorers, the Sioux Falls Pheasants, and the Lincoln Saltdogs to form the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball as an independent minor league. The league began play in 2006 with a 96-game schedule along with an expansion team in St. Joseph, Missouri known as the Blacksnakes.

The Undead live in Indianapolis, Indiana, 2000 Steele (then of the Misfits) and Natz had been playing with drummer Richie Matalia as a side project called the Skabs. When Matalia departed and Steele left the Misfits, the trio of Steele, Natz and Patrick Blanck formed the Undead in October 1980. In June 1982, the Undead released their first EP, 9 Toes Later, and were featured on the ROIR New York Thrash compilation. A few months later Natz and Blanck left the band; Natz later played in Virus, the Blacksnakes and Cop Shoot Cop. They were replaced by Brian "Payne" Aliano on bass and Bobby Savage on drums, and this lineup released the "Verbal Abuse" single in 1983.

LaCock managed the Niagara Stars of the Canadian Baseball League in 2003. After serving as the hitting coach for St. Joe Blacksnakes (now defunct) of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball during the 2007 season, he was hired in 2008 as hitting coach for the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association, resigning his position in mid-July. Since then, LaCock has journeyed as a hitting coach with the Tucson Toros of the Golden Baseball League in 2009, the North American League Schaumburg Flyers in 2010, and the Kevin Costner owned Lake County Fielders (also of the North American League) in 2011. In 2012, LaCock served as head coach of the Cronulla Sharks baseball club, in the New South Wales major league competition in Sydney, Australia.

F-16 Fighting Falcon and A-10C Thunderbolt II. Nicknamed the "Blacksnakes," the 122d Fighter Wing today is operationally gained by the Air Combat Command (ACC). The 122 FW operates from Fort Wayne Air National Guard Base, which is located on the east side of the airport in a secure area away from the publicly accessible facilities. A unit of the United States Air Force, in a national emergency, the 122d FW may be ordered to active duty by the President of the United States. The primary federal mission of the 122d FW is to achieve and maintain the level of operational readiness that will provide trained and equipped combat-ready tactical units, capable of global deployment, ready for immediate integration into the active Air Force to assure air offense, air defense, or joint action with ground forces.
