Later, the entire Benchwarmers team, along with the kids from Jerry's team, Number 7, Marcus, and even Carlos and Wayne, celebrate at Pizza Hut where Richie and Clark manage to get girlfriends, and Gus ecstatically announces that he is going to become a father.

Their success causes increasing frustration and bitterness amongst the mean-spirited teams of jocks, who start meeting to think of plans to defeat the Benchwarmers. At the semi-final game, around halfway through, the competing team's coach Wayne bribes the umpire by entering a 30-year-old Dominican man named Carlos into the league claiming him to be 12 years old. Carlos proves to be a professional, purposely stepping on Gus' hand at one point to injure it too much for him to pitch. But the Benchwarmers eventually manage to defeat Carlos by making him too drunk to actually pitch properly and they manage to win when Richie's agoraphobic and heliophobic brother Howie is hit by the pitch but forces the winning run.

Buttermaker, realizing that he has become as competitive as Roy, puts the benchwarmers on the field, thus giving everyone a chance to play. In spite of this, the finish-up brings up the best team-play from the Bears. After loading the bases with smart tactics (two walks and a bunt) they nearly recover a four run difference, with the last runner getting taken out at the last moment. After having narrowly lost the game 7 to 6, Buttermaker gives the team free rein of his beer cooler.

After multiple unsuccessful attempts to derail the trio and halt their winning streak, the Benchwarmers' adversaries finally find a weakness that they can exploit. They find evidence that Gus was a bully himself as a child, known for using name calling over physical force and had bullied one boy named Marcus so intensely that he had to be sent to a mental institution. Seizing this opportunity, the bully teams expose Gus' secret to the public, shaming Gus into resigning from the team. However, on his wife Liz's advice, Gus sincerely apologizes to Marcus just before the final game.

Anthony Simpson (Ant) & Anthony Toohey (Becks) started in regional radio with a show called The Benchwarmers, initially in the breakfast slot on Star FM in Gippsland. In 2007, they were networked in the drive shift on Southern Cross Media Group's Sea FM, Star FM and Hot FM stations, with Becks broadcasting from the Gold Coast and Ant based in Melbourne. In November 2009, Simpson & Toohey were poached by the Australian Radio Network to present Drive and commenced broadcasting in January 2010. In April 2012, Toohey announced that he had resigned from the show to pursue overseas projects.

He then beheads Wonder Woman, crushes the Flash's chest, and smashes John Stewart. He then defeats an assembly of responding heroes including the Justice Society of America, Booster Gold and Doctor Fate, all of whom he refers to as "a collection of second stringers, benchwarmers and amateurs". He heads to Metropolis and calls out Superman, who can no longer think clearly due to the Bizarro virus.

In return, Marcus forgives Gus in an incredibly moving speech in front of everyone right on the field at the beginning of the final game. Gus re-joins the team, announcing that Marcus is the Benchwarmers' new third-base coach. In the final game, Gus, Clark and Richie do not play; rather, they let a team consisting of Nelson and other non-athletic children play, to give them a chance to compete. The final is played against a team with their heartless coach, Jerry, who is the leader of all the mean bully jocks on the local little league teams, and was Richie and Clark's main bully when they were children.

Instead of walking him, he almost hits Engleberg, causing Ray to push Joey to the ground in anger. As revenge, Joey throws Engleberg an easy pitch which he smacks for a home run and leaves the game with his mother. Later, Buttermaker changes the lineup, putting the benchwarmers in and taking out some of the good players which causes the Bears to fall behind heading into the last half of the inning. With two outs, one of the Bears players, Garo, drives in two runs and tries to score to tie the game but is thrown out at the plate on a close call, causing the Bears to lose the championship 8–7.

Hyun, who only stepped inside the court in his second year, was mostly benched during his first year together with Seo due to the lack of skills. The two benchwarmers would end up going to the swimming pool to watch the game from outside the court. Later on, the pair led their high school team to winning basketball matches. In Hyun’s high school playing career, he is noted for setting the record for most points scored in a high school basketball game, a record that still stand to this days, scoring 63 points without playing full- time. In an episode of the SBS TV show Finding Genius (영재 발굴단) which aired on February 3, 2016, Hyun revealed that one time, basketball player Seok Joo-il (), a teammate in middle school and high school, called him and Seo and he told the two of them to quit basketball since they don’t have any talent in playing. After hearing Seok’s words, Hyun said that it became his motivation to improve.
