Homer is shown leaving the power plant and, as in the previous opening sequences, the green uranium bar falls into his clothing as he leaves. This time, in the background of this scene, Lenny Leonard is standing on a ladder trying to change the "days without an accident sign" from 2 to 3 days but then falls off the ladder onto Carl Carlson who is securing the bottom of the ladder.

Following an incident with the Yo-kai Watch Type Zero, Nate can switch between the different Yo-kai Watch models by putting his arm inside Whisper's mouth. In the anime, it is revealed he is secretly a Yo-kai named Nonuttin ( in Japan), whose belches cause people to claim to know all about things when they actually have no idea. ; : :Jibanyan is a Charming Tribe cat Yo-kai, specifically a nekomata, who is the ghost of a cat called Rudy ( in the Japanese version), the pet of a teenager named Amy (Emi "Emi-chan") until he died after being hit by a truck while crossing an intersection. He has since become a residual haunting and possesses people to make them cross the street without waiting for the signal so he can make another failed attempt to fight the cars to avenge his death.

The album was given a rating of 2 and a half stars at Allmusic.com. Reviewer Peter Fawthrop wrote: "Barry Manilow's soundtrack would have upped the mediocrity on a better project, but The Pebble and the Penguin as a film was conceived with such dismal effort from the then struggling Don Bluth studio that the songs and score work on a somewhat passing level". It said that Martin Short stutters through "Sometimes I Wonder", Tim Curry belches out "Don't Make Me Laugh", and James Belushi "squeezes in some very minor singing talent" in "Looks Like I Got Me a Friend." It said "Now and Forever" is a "sweeping opener", but suggested it was an "attempt to borrow from the lyrical format of "Belle" from Beauty and the Beast", and therefore added "it does not match up to its grand ambition".

The latter album featured a song titled "It's a Gas", which punctuated an instrumental track with belches (along with a saxophone break by an uncredited King Curtis). Dr. Demento featured this gaseous performance on his radio show in Los Angeles in the early 1970s. Mad included some of these tracks as plastic- laminated cardboard inserts and (later) flexi discs with their reprinted "Mad Specials". A number of original recordings also were released in this way in the 1970s and early 1980s, such as Gall in the Family Fare (a radio play adaptation of their previously illustrated All in the Family parody), a single entitled "Makin' Out", the octuple-grooved track "It's a Super Spectacular Day", which had eight possible endings, the spoken word Meet the staff insert, and a six-track, 30-minute Mad Disco EP (from the 1980 special of the same title) that included a disco version of "It's a Gas".
