Described in detail by eyewitness Thomé Lopes and chronicler Gaspar Correia, da Gama looted the ship with over 400 pilgrims on board including 50 women, locked in the passengers, the owner and an ambassador from Egypt and burned them to death. They offered their wealth, which "could ransom all the Christian slaves in the Kingdom of Fez and much more" but were not spared. Da Gama looked on through the porthole and saw the women bringing up their gold and jewels and holding up their babies to beg for mercy.

This historical event is called the "Kinderzeche" and can in some aspects be compared with the "Meistertrunk" in Rothenburg. The name is derived from the two German words for "child" and "the bill for food and drink in an inn", and is called such because of the legend that a child saved the town from massacre by the Swedes during the surrender. The legend tells that when the Swedish army besieged the town, a teenage girl took the children to the Swedish general to beg for mercy. The Swedish general had recently lost his young son to illness, and a boy who approached him so closely resembled his own son that he decided to spare the town.

Forming a crime syndicate, Wily sought to destroy Tadashi's work through the use of hacking and computer viruses, coming into direct conflict with Tadashi's grandson Lan Hikari and by extension MegaMan.EXE. However, after several failures, the realization he had been a poor father to his son Dr. Regal, and taking the role of a surrogate father for Baryl, Wily reformed at the conclusion of Mega Man Battle Network 6 and worked alongside Lan's father for the remainder of the series. Wily appears in the Wily Capsule from Mega Man 7 as an Assist Trophy in the crossover fighting game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He is able to be defeated, upon which he will beg for mercy as he always does when defeated in the original games.

During Tony Yayo's incarceration, G-Unit began a campaign called "Free Yayo", which involved wearing "Free Yayo" shirts advertising his situation; due to the mainstream prominence of the group, Tony Yayo began to receive increased attention from the Hip Hop community, becoming known as the "mythical 4th member of G-Unit", although Yayo himself was unaware of the coverage he attracted. The campaign received widespread publicity, even in countries such as Brazil and Iraq. At the 46th Grammy Awards, 50 Cent and Eminem performed whilst wearing "Free Yayo" shirts.

Young Buck (second from right) with G-Unit in 2006 After leaving UTP Records in 2003, Young Buck would link up with up and coming rap titan 50 Cent who was already making waves with his outfit G-Unit. Looking to broaden his empire, 50 Cent was quick to sign Young Buck to his G-Unit imprint and also welcome him as one of the newest members of the rap group G-Unit. Young Buck would first begin his career with G-Unit Records in 2003 when the rap group G-Unit released their first album Beg for Mercy. As the album was recorded, Tony Yayo was sentenced to jail on charges of gun possession, and so makes only two appearances on the entire record, on the tracks "Groupie Love" and "I Smell Pussy".

On December 31, 2002, G-Unit rappers Tony Yayo and 50 Cent were arrested for illegal weapon possession. Following a further background check, it was discovered that Yayo had an outstanding warrant for a previous such charge: as a result, he was sentenced for bail jumping, and spent the entirety of 2003 in prison at Lakeview Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility. During this time, G-Unit rose to mainstream prominence following the commercial success of 50 Cent's album Get Rich or Die Tryin (2003), which sold 872,000 copies in its 1st week on sale in the United States and contained the Billboard number 1 singles "In Da Club" and "21 Questions". The group also released their debut album, Beg for Mercy, in 2003, which featured the US top-15 singles "Stunt 101" and "Wanna Get to Know You".

Skolnick was hired in 2001 as senior producer at Hyperspace Cowgirls, a small interactive studio based in Manhattan that was moving from developing websites and CD-ROMs to developing video games. Here he learned more about video game development and oversaw the production of THQ titles such as Britney's Dance Beat for PC, Stuart Little 2 for PC, and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron for Game Boy Advance. In 2002 Skolnick moved upstate to work as a producer for the prominent video game developer (and Activision Blizzard subsidiary) Vicarious Visions, where he managed the development of titles such as Crash Bandicoot Purple, Shrek 2: Beg for Mercy!, Ultimate Spider-Man GBA, Over the Hedge DS, and Guitar Hero III Wii. Skolnick also served as the company’s unofficial editorial director, providing writing and editing guidance for numerous Vicarious Visions titles.

" A critic from Now commented that "his flow is generic and instantly forgettable and his lyrics are trite, inconsequential and full of self-importance", while Chris Willman of Entertainment Weekly gave the album an F, stating that the concept of it is "about squandering Britney Spears' fortune." Despite the album later getting an "Album Pick" award from the site, AllMusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine gave it 1/5 stars and panned it as bad in an uninteresting way, further adding that it is "too serious about being taken seriously to get unintentionally silly, and the album is a bore because of it. It's also a bore because he's a bore, writing endlessly about the same three topics: his alleged superstardom, his hatred of the media, his love of parties and dope." Jimmy Newlin of Slant Magazine said that none of the album's producers have credibility or are innovative, which resulted in "half-hearted beats, annoying musical tics, and enough bass to make your speakers beg for mercy.

Their plan was to market The Game as a devotee, or a loyal member of 50 Cent's "camp". The Game made his first appearances as a member of G-Unit on Lloyd Banks and Young Buck's debut albums, The Hunger for More and Straight Outta Cashville. Throughout 2004, The Game began working on his debut studio album, which was set to be executive produced by 50 Cent and Dr. Dre. In November 2004, the album's second single, How We Do featuring 50 Cent became a top 5 hit, as did the album's third single, Hate It or Love It, which peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, being held back from the top spot by 50 Cent's single, Candy Shop featuring Olivia.

Heels may in fact beg for mercy during a beat down at the hands of faces, even if they have delivered similar beat downs with no mercy, with Ric Flair in particular being well known for begging an opponent off, then hitting a low blow on his distracted opponent.

At the time of the album's release, rapper The Game was not in G-Unit therefore he is not photographed nor does he make an appearance on the album. He does, however, make cameos in the videos for Stunt 101, Wanna Get To Know You, and Poppin' Them Thangs. He was further mentioned in Poppin' Them Thangs when Young Buck states "You ain't no Crip like Snoop you ain't no Blood like Game". In its first week of sales, Beg for Mercy sold 377,000 copies, placing third behind Tupac Shakur's eighth posthumous release, Tupac: Resurrection, which moved 430,000 albums, and Jay-Z's The Black Album, which sold 463,263 copies.
