In nearby Golden Beach, hundreds of people became stranded in their vehicles, according to city officials. At the Biscayne Bay Campus of Florida International University, of rain was observed. A number of stalled vehicles and impassable roads were reported in North Miami, while 24 families were forced to evacuate due to flooding.

He was born in Ireland in 1780 and served in the Royal Navy during the time of the French Revolution. In 1802, he left the navy and worked on a merchant ship. When the ship became stranded in the Saint Lawrence River near Quebec City, he accepted the position of mate on the government ship Toronto.

The Thiesen Building was conceived and financed by Pensacola businessman Christen Ustrup Thiesen, designed by the Atlanta architectural firm of Morgan & Dillon, and constructed by Pensacola contractors Wills & Broughton. Christen Thiesen's career as a Pensacola businessman had begun through unusual circumstances. Born in Denmark, Thiesen was the navigator of a Danish sailing ship. Thiesen became stranded in Pensacola during the Pensacola yellow fever epidemic of 1882 when his ship left without him.

When the snowstorm cleared two days later, all 13 of the party had died from exposure. She broke adrift from the tow on 15 December 1958 and became stranded on the northern Spanish coast. She was then found and towed by two Spanish trawlers, the frigate Hernán Cortés and the patrol boat V-18 to Pasajes on 6 January 1959.

The treacherous conditions for ships around the island led to several shipwrecks. The British passenger vessel Tapley lost seven passengers when she became stranded on Flat Holm in January 1773 on its passage from Cork, Ireland to Bristol. On 23 October 1817, a British sloop, William and Mary, foundered after hitting the rock islands near Flat Holm known as The Wolves (Bristol Channel). The ship was en route from Bristol to Waterford and sank within fifteen minutes.

Velvet is a black lab-shepherd cattle mixed-breed dog, owned by Matty Bryant of Milwaukie, Oregon, who helped save three climbers, including Bryant, when they became stranded on Mount Hood, Oregon, on February 18, 2007. The three climbers and Velvet toppled off a ledge while descending from a climb of Mount Hood. Due to low visibility, they stepped off a ledge at about elevation during a storm, separating them from five other members of the party. The five reported the accident and were themselves soon rescued.

Shortly after its reopening following the collision with the James Prior, the bridge briefly attained national prominence on 20 January 2006 when a long female bottlenose whale became stranded at Battersea Bridge. A year later he joined the Shackleton expedition, where along with other members of the crew, he became stranded for 2 years in Antarctic after the loss of the ship Aurora. During this time he kept a regular diary across five volumes.

In 1949, amidst the Chinese Civil War, HMS Amethyst came under attack by People's Liberation Army forces while sailing on the Yangtze River. The frigate was heavily damaged by artillery fire and became stranded in the Yangtze River. Using his skills in Mandarin, Youde negotiated with the PLA commander to ask for the release of the Amethyst.

The 34th Infantry Regiment was ordered on May 24, 1864 on an expedition to Asheepo River, South Carolina to burn a railroad trestle across a marsh at that point. About 400 members of the black regiment were loaded onto the troop steamer Boston, including 1st Lieutenant George W. Brush and the men of his company. The men had been ferried out to the Boston by small boats and one was fastened to the ships stern. Sailing down the Asheepo River in fog and darkness the ship became stranded upon an oyster bed.

Summer camp of John Franklin south of Cape Felix John Franklin, another British explorer, made an Arctic expedition about a decade later; his two ships became stranded in 1846 when frozen in the sea ice northwest of the island. An army of robot soldiers was sent to the floating island on a military expedition, seeking to harness the Demon Crown as a weapon for wars on the surface. These robots slaughtered the Mimiga indiscriminately in their search for the crown, but were defeated when the Mimiga decided to eat the red flowers as a last resort. Shortly before the game begins, Professor Booster, the Sakamoto family, and various assistants formed a scientific party to research the island, but they became stranded when their medical doctor managed to acquire the Crown; he then forced the expedition to search for the red flowers.

By January 1906, Mountain Gem had been brought down the Snake River, to be operated by the Open-River Commission on the Columbia run between Celilo, Oregon and Wallula, Washington. On the morning of January 11, 1906 Mountain Gem sustained serious damage while running downstream through Umatilla Rapids, which were located two miles east of Umatilla, Oregon. The steamer first hit one set of rocks, and became stranded. The ship was wrecked in the Solway Firth on 25 November 1888 while carrying a cargo of steel rails from Whitehaven, Cumbria, to Rosario, Argentina. The ship first became stranded on a bank to the north of the Workington Bank; but floating free it later ran aground on the Robin Rigg Sand on which it became embedded. As the position worsened, and the ship filled with water, the crew sought refuge in the rigging and the first mate drowned after being knocked from the mizzen mast. The rest of the crew were rescued by the Maryport lifeboat which landed them safely there.

Curran shelter in February 1975 The Cairngorm Plateau disaster occurred in November 1971 when six fifteen-year-old Edinburgh school students and their two leaders were on a navigational expedition in a remote area of the Scottish mountains. When the weather deteriorated they adopted their emergency plan and headed for the Curran shelter, but they failed to reach it and became stranded for two nights on the high plateau in a blizzard. Five children and the leader's assistant died of exposure. A sixth student and the group's leader survived the ordeal with severe hypothermia and frostbite.

François Péron, a naturalist who was part of Baudin's expedition, visited King Island and was the last person to record descriptions of the King Island emu from the wild. At one point, Péron and some of his companions became stranded due to storms and took refuge with some seal hunters. They were served emu meat, which Péron described in favourable terms as tasting halfway "between that of the turkey-cock and that of the young pig". Péron did not report seeing any emus on the island himself, which might explain why he described them as being the size of mainland birds.

In 1810 he became stranded in Boston by the loss of his entire fortune in the Napoleonic Wars and the ensuing economic crash. Penniless, he resolved to take up his long-time avocation and become a professional violinist and conductor. The submarine hunts or submarine incidents were a series of several incidents involving foreign submarines that occurred in Swedish territorial waters during the Cold War, attributed in Swedish media to the Soviet Union. On October 27, 1981, the Soviet submarine U 137 became stranded deep inside Swedish waters. The Swedish Navy responded aggressively to these perceived threats, increasing patrols in Swedish waters, mining and electronically monitoring passages, and repeatedly chasing and attacking suspected submarines with depth charge bombs, but no hits or casualties were ever recorded. This incident encouraged development of incident weapons to increase security of future submarine incidents.

The rebels steam up the Paraná river, and near Paso de la Patria, Argentina, the government forces unleashed a series of airstrikes on the rebel flotilla, disabling Humaitá, which became stranded off Ituzaingó. Rebel personnel from Paraguay landed on the islands of Corateí and San Pablo, but they were eventually isolated and captured on 25 July by loyal troops carried by the transport ships Tirador and Capitán Cabral. Humaitá was afloat again by 13 August, when she and her sister ship tried to enter the Paraguay River. Forty-nine people were evacuated out of the Paracel Islands due to the threat of the typhoon. As Utor was traversing the South China Sea, a fishing boat became stranded near Langhua Reef in the Paracel Islands; the occupants were rescued by a rescue ship operated by the Hainan Maritime Bureau, though five were flown to hospitals for medical treatment. While sightings of Belugas have been reported in the temperate waters of the Atlantic Ocean at latitudes similar to that of the UK, the species is normally social, and it is unusual for an individual of the species to be found alone. Beluga sightings in the vicinity of the Thames are especially rare; the most recent appearance of the species in the area was in 1913. Various species of Cetacean have been found in the Thames over the years, the most famous of which being the River Thames whale, a juvenile northern bottlenose whale which entered the Thames in January 2006, and became stranded after travelling as far as Chelsea before dying from complications associated with its stranding.

On March 7, 1902, at 12:30 pm while en route to Bandon, Welcome became stranded on the north flats of the Coquille River during a very heavy squall, with the wind blowing at gale strength and a rough sea."Annual Report of the United States Life-Saving Service" (1903), at pages 134-135. The vessel was immediately spotted by the personnel at the Coquille River Life-Saving Station, who boarded the steamer and then passed a line to the steamer Favorite. Favorite however was not able to haul Welcome off the bank, and so the life-savers returned to the life- saving station in the surfboat, where they obtained an anchor, hawser, and cables, then rowed back to where Welcome was stranded.

After taking on a cargo of tea, Gravina became stranded in the Min River, Fujian, in late June 1854, but was hauled off with minimal damage and continued on to Deal, England, where she arrived 23 October. Proceeding on to London, Gravinas agents were advertising a voyage of the vessel to Shanghai from early December but in the event, she remained in port for another two months and did not sail until 2 February 1855, arriving at Shanghai mid-June. On one of her trips to China, Gravina was attacked by Chinese pirates in junks, who were driven off by the clippers two deck guns. From Shanghai, Gravina went to Manila, Philippines; Batavia, Dutch East Indies; and Amsterdam, Netherlands, where she arrived in March 1856.

Zem is an affable, yet quite staggeringly stupid, swamp dwelling mattress. The pocket-sprung lifeform flollops, willomies and glurries around Sqornshellous Zeta and tries his best to cheer up Marvin the Paranoid Android, who became stranded on the planet after having one arm welded to his side and one leg replaced by a steel pillar. Because of his limited intellect he has the same conversation with Marvin every day until the android leaves. After attempting to make conversation about the weather (Marvin: "The dew has fallen with a particularly sickening thud this morning... if I had teeth I would grit them at this point"), Marvin's life story, and the (formerly thriving) economy of Sqornshellous itself, Zem offers that Marvin should be more mattresslike in his outlook.

Tucker graduated from Harvard University in 1907 and attended Columbia Law School but dropped out to work for the American Book Company for five years. He then became business manager of the Washington Square Players. In 1917, while on his way to China and Japan with a friend, Austen "Billy" Parker, to study traditional Asian theater, he became stranded in Panama, unable to find passage on any of the ships transiting the Panama Canal because of shipping diversions due to demands of the First World War, he and Parker decided to head for France to join the war effort. On March 28, 1917, Tucker joined the French Foreign Legion, but only a few weeks later in April he transferred to the Lafayette Flying Corps.

Maxwell first gained recognition as one of the British captains involved in the successful Adriatic campaign of 1807–1814, during which he was responsible for the destruction of a French armaments convoy at the Action of 29 November 1811. As a result of further success in the Mediterranean, Maxwell was given increasingly important commissions and, despite the loss of his ship off Ceylon in 1813, was appointed to escort the British Ambassador to China in 1816. The voyage to China subsequently became famous when Maxwell's ship was wrecked in the Gaspar Strait, and he and his crew became stranded on a nearby island. The shipwrecked sailors ran short of food and were repeatedly attacked by Malay pirates, but thanks to Maxwell's leadership no lives were lost.

An electric tramway track extension from Church Street, Hartlepool to Seaton Carew was opened on 28 March 1902 linking Hartlepool and Seaton Carew. Trams travelled on reserved track along parts of Seaton Carew sea front, operating until 25 March 1927 when the line closed, ending tram transport in the Hartlepools. During a northerly gale in the early hours of 31 January 1907 the cargo steamship SS Clavering became stranded near North Gare breakwater in the mouth of the river Tees. During a 31‑hour joint rescue the Seaton Carew and Hartlepool lifeboats removed a total of 39 people from the vessel—the RNLI subsequently awarded Silver Medals to coxswain Shepherd Sotheran and John Franklin, coxswain superintendent of the Seaton Carew Lifeboat.

In November 1912, Mazama became stranded in the Wood River, when as a result of poorly constructed irrigation canal, most of the water in the river was diverted into the canal, flooding the surrounding area, and leaving insufficient water in the river for Mazama to navigate. The level of the river water was only a few inches, and the steamer would be stranded until the breach in the river bank caused by the diversion could be repaired. Sufficient depth of water would still have to be accumulated in the river to float the Mazama, and it was reported that this could be done by a temporary dam of sandbags, which would require construction of a substantial embankment. This was anticipated to be expensive.

Bush came under more criticism when Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast region during the early hours of August 29, 2005. In the wake of the hurricane, two levees protecting New Orleans from Lake Pontchartrain collapsed, leading to widespread flooding. In the aftermath of this disaster, thousands of city residents, unable to evacuate prior to the hurricane, became stranded with little or no relief for several days, resulting in lawless and unsanitary conditions in some areas. Blame for inadequate disaster response was partially attributed to state and local authorities, but public outcry in the disaster's early hours was largely directed at the Bush administration, mainly the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security alleging weak crisis management and coordination.

The M41s succeeded in knocking out several more attacking T-34/85s which became stranded on the narrow road and bottlenecked due to difficulties their crews encountered in skirting the existing wreckage. However, this success was short-lived: the unexpectedly heavy resistance encountered by Cuban armor ensured that by noon the following afternoon all the M41 crews had exhausted their ammunition. At one point American Defense Secretary Robert McNamara proposed using the US Navy vessels within the vicinity to move another eight M41s and their associated ammunition to support the exiles; however, without sufficient supplies or air support Brigade 2506 was unable to hold its positions against repeated Cuban armored attacks and was overwhelmed. The surviving M41s were abandoned on the beach near Playa Girón when the invasion ended.

Cottonwood Canyon is a canyon along the Fraser River in the North Cariboo region of the Central Interior of British Columbia, Canada. It is located west of the Cariboo Mountains on the Fraser River south of its confluence with the east-flowing West Road River and north of its confluence with the northwest- flowing Cottonwood River just northwest of the city of Quesnel, The first European explorer was Simon Fraser (explorer) who ran the rapids on the first of June, 1808. One of his canoes became stranded and had to be pulled out of the canyon with a rope. It was one of the obstacles for gold rush-era steamboats operating on the Fraser from Quesnel to Fort George and up the Nechako and Stuart Rivers to Stuart Lake.

However, due to poor weather Buttrose's water taxi became stranded, meaning she missed most of Studio 10. In December 2013, Studio 10 began airing on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Mahood speculated that, while vacationing in Death Valley on 23 July 1996, the family, short on time and wanting to visit Yosemite National Park on their way back to Los Angeles, attempted to take a shortcut to Yosemite on a route the difficulty of which they underestimated. Once their vehicle became stranded in a wash, the family traveled on foot southwards to seek help at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, where they may have expected to find a well-patrolled fenced perimeter, a common feature of military bases in Germany but not of military bases in the desert areas of the Southwestern United States. The family likely succumbed to heat stroke (average high temperature of 116.5 °F / 46.9 °C in July), dehydration and lack of shelter halfway to the base perimeter.

The ship first became stranded on a bank to the north of the Workington Bank but floated free and later ran aground on the Robin Rigg Sand from which it could not free itself. As the position worsened, and the ship filled with water, the crew sought refuge in the rigging and the first mate drowned after being knocked from the mizzen mast. The rest of the crew were rescued by the Maryport lifeboat who landed them safely there. The court of enquiry into the wreck, of 18 & 19 December 1888, found that Dorward misjudged his position but did not recommend the suspension of his certificate in deference to his record, diligence in the performance of his duties in difficult waters, and his ship having been cast off in a less than ideal position by the tug that towed the ship from Whitehaven.

Because of extremely heavy fire from Tobruk harbour, only two launches, MTB 261 and MTB 314, made it into Marsa Umm el Sciausc, the target cove. MTB 314 became stranded in the shallow water, but MTB 261 managed to land Sergeant 'Dusty' Miller and his group of Geordie Fusiliers and sail out.Smith, p. 111 The motor launches ML 353, Ml 352 and ML 349 and 17 MTBs were beaten off by boom defences and an Italian flotilla of torpedo boats and armed motor barges.

Located to the east of the confluence of the River Rea, Shropshire and River Teme, Newnham Bridge has appeared on the news during various flood events during which the River Rea overtops its banks. Despite widespread media attention the village itself is less affected by floods than is through traffic, given that the A456 on which the village sits is one of few major routes west from Birmingham. Only one house has ever flooded in the village but following the 2007 floods, a flood wall was constructed around the property and since then the property has remained unaffected by subsequent flood events. During the widespread floods caused by Storm Dennis and Storm Ciara in February 2020, Yvonne Booth of Birmingham was swept away at the Eastham Bridge to the south of Newnham Bridge, when the vehicle she was travelling became stranded.

The Kwai are one of the thousands of species Element Lad was ultimately responsible for the creation of after he became stranded a billion years in the past of the "Second Galaxy", in his indefinitely prolonged lifespan. They were an insect- like humanoid race, whose distinguishing features included slate-grey skin with black tattoo-like markings, dragonfly-like wings, retractable armoured exoskeletons and the ability to find any path if such existed, even without obvious tracks to follow. Their travels usually led them to follow "feral stars" - newly appearing stars in their path - which they considered good luck. When, in the 31st century, Element Lad's home time period, they followed a "star" which was in reality the Legionnaire Wildfire, it led them to encounter the Progeny, a xenophobic beetle-like race who began to hunt them down.

Le Petit Journal, showing survivors from Kowshing being rescued by sailors from the French ship Le Lion With tensions with Japan increasing over the situation on the Peninsula, the Chinese government chartered three steamers to carry reinforcements to Korea in late July to bolster their position in Korea. The three troopships were escorted by three naval vessels, the cruiser and the gunboats Kwang-yi and . A Japanese force consisting of the cruisers , and intercepted the three Chinese warships off Pungo Island, precipitating the action. Within one hour, the engagement which ended in a Japanese victory, Jiyuan was forced to flee, Kwang-yi became stranded on a shoal and Tsao-kiang had been captured. Although the first two of the three troopships arrived safely in Korea, on 25 July 1894, Naniwa intercepted the third, Kowshing, which was carrying 1,200 Chinese troops.

Roughly 1,000 passengers later became stranded in Bacolod after sea travel was suspended. The region of Western Visayas, which includes the island of Palawan, was raised a TCWS #1 on December 28, as 851 passengers were stranded in that region alone. As of 5 p.m. local time, the NDRRMC raised the "blue alert" status in much of the Western Visayas region, meaning that 50 percent of the RDRRMC personnel are on standby for emergencies and it is the second highest alert level. At this point, the number of passengers stranded from the cause of suspended sea travel rose to 13,000, where 6,000 of them were from the Bicol Region. In the city of Tacloban, their mayor ordered to suspend work in government offices and their local officials have set up 71 evacuation centres ready for displaced families.

MV Vikartindur was a German registered 8,633 ton container ship that became stranded on a beach on the south coast of Iceland on March 5, 1997, while en route from Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands, to Reykjavík. She suffered engine failure at 1200 in stormy conditions and, although able to restart her main engine, she was not able to generate enough power to prevent the gale force winds from blowing her towards shore. Her anchor took hold 1.7 miles off the coast but its chain broke at 1900 and attempts by the V/s Ægir of the Icelandic Coast Guard to attach a towing line were unsuccessful in the heavy seas. The Vikartindur ran aground at 2100 at 63 degrees 43.9 minutes north, 20 degrees 52.4 minutes west at 2100 and the crew of 19 were rescued by a helicopter of the Icelandic Coast Guard.

The MV Tampa. In the years leading up to 2001, increasing numbers of people attempted to travel to Australia by boat to seek asylum as refugees. Many of these arrived off Christmas Island, an Australian territory in the Indian Ocean, some 2000 km off the north-west coast of Australia and 500 km south of Jakarta, Indonesia. Hundreds of people arrived on tightly packed, unseaworthy vessels, and many paid large amounts of money to people smugglers for their passage to Australia. At dawn on 24 August 2001, a 20-metre wooden fishing boat, the Palapa 1, with 438 (369 men, 26 women and 43 children) mainly Hazara, became stranded in international waters about 140 km north of Christmas Island. On 26 August, Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC) Australia, which had been aware of the vessel's distress, possibly through Coastwatch surveillance, requested all ships in the area to respond.

Snowfall at the Belle Meade Plantation in Tennessee on January 22 Snow fell across a large portion of Arkansas on January 21–22, with a daily record of observed just outside Little Rock. Snowfall was confined to the eastern half of the state, with freezing rain amounting to observed in northeastern counties. Strong winds in excess of —with a gust of measured in Jonesboro—left more than 16,000 people in the state without power. One fatality near Hoxie was due to slippery roads. Early on January 22, heavy snow fell across parts of western Tennessee. Roads around Nashville quickly became impassable, including portions of Interstates 40 and 24, and local police reported more than 200 accidents. In Lexington, Kentucky, one accident led to injury; 17 other accidents were reported. Multiple accidents in Rockcastle County prompted the closure of of I-75 in Kentucky. Along a stretch of Interstate 75 in Kentucky, hundreds of drivers became stranded for more than 16 hours on January 22–23.

Each evening's schedule was arranged to present either a double feature (which, under FCC anti-siphoning rules then maintained to protect programming supply for broadcast stations until they were struck down by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in March 1977, tended to be releases dating no more than two years from their initial theatrical exhibition), or a combination of either a sports or special event and a theatrical movie, often bridged by a short film or other interstitial content. HBO's launch came with very little fanfare in the press; other than print advertisements promoting the launch in the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader, the service's debut lacked coverage from local or national media outlets. The city administrator of Wilkes-Barre declined an offer to attend the launch ceremony, while Time Inc. vice president J. Richard Munro became stranded in traffic on the George Washington Bridge en route from Manhattan, and was not able to arrive in Wilkes-Barre for the ceremony.

The earliest Chinese migrants in Denmark are believed to have been 34 men from Guangdong who came to the famous Tivoli Gardens amusement park in 1902 as travelling performers on contracts for the summer. Though the initial understanding was that they would return to China after their work had ended, half found other employment at the end of their contracts, or had entered into relationships with Danish women, and thus chose to settle down in Denmark. Similar forms of "coincidental arrival" would continue over the next few decades: some sailors jumped ship in Denmark or became stranded there during the 1904-05 Russo- Japanese War and later World War I, a few itinerant soapstone traders arrived from Qingtian, Zhejiang and ended up staying in the country, and other similar cases. By 1949, a total of 43 Chinese are believed to have become immigrants in Denmark; most of these were male, and among them were just four women married to Danish men.

Donald and his nephews are on a vacation away from Duckburg where Donald is happy for being away from his cousin Gladstone, they notice that there is a fishing contest (with first prize a fancy automobile), so Donald takes a boat and tries to catch the biggest fish. Donald quickly hooks a sixty pounder but meanwhile at the ticket office Gladstone enters the race, he gets a motorboat and enters the lake where he meets Donald and cost him his fish. Then, Gladstone hooks a seventy pounder so the nephews try to help Donald, they meet a(n) native chief (Indian chief) who helps them to catch an eighty pounder, they hook it to Donald's fishing rod but suddenly a speedboat collide with Donald's boat leaving Donald knocked out on its front and sending his fish into Gladstone's boat. Gladstone wins the contest but Donald manage to save a young girl that became stranded on the speedboat in the water after the collision and therefore receives a $10,000 reward from her father.
