The film portrays the life of a turbulent couple, Mozhdeh and Morteza Samiei, as they prepare for a vacation to Dubai the morning after Chaharshanbe Suri, a festival held on the eve of Wednesday before Nowruz. Morteza orders Rouhi, a maid and bride- soon-to-be, to help the couple clean their apartment, though Mozhdeh initially insists that she is not required. While she is doing her work, Rouhi learns piece by piece what is happening between the two: Mozhdeh suspects that Morteza is seeing their divorced neighbor, Simin, behind her back, after discovering Simin's phone number in the logs. Simin, meanwhile, is working as a beautician, which disturbs the neighborhood due to all the noises, eventually leading to a court order imposed against her to either quit or leave.

The musical Madame Aphrodite traces it origins back to a one- hour TV play of the same name, which was written in the early 1950s by playwright Tad Mosel, one of the leading exponents of that genre at that time. The play told the simple and fable-like story of a middle-aged beautician who manufactured and sold fake beauty cream to gullible woman. The beauty micrometer, also known as the beauty calibrator, was a device designed in the early 1930s to help in the identification of the areas of a person's face which need to have their appearance reduced or enhanced by make- up. The inventors include famed beautician Max Factor Sr. A 2013 Wired article described the device as "a Clockwork Orange style device" that combines "phrenology, cosmetics and a withering pseudo-scientific analysis". A photograph of Factor, using the device on actress Marjorie Reynolds featured in a 1935 article in science magazine Modern Mechanix and, when republished by The Guardian in 2013, the caption described it as being "a contraption that looks like an instrument of torture". Placed on and around the head and face, the beauty micrometer uses flexible metal strips which align with a person's facial features.

Eunuchs Lee Suk-gung (Wayne Lai), Dan Tin (Power Chan) and Chan Siu-fung (Raymond Cho) lived a peaceful life serving the Emperor and the royal family in the Forbidden City. Suk-gung worked in the kitchen as a cook and master carver, Tin worked in the Physician quarters and Siu-fung was a beautician who made the ladies in waiting presentable. After the fall of the Qing dynasty and eviction of all eunuchs and servants in the Forbidden City by the last Emperor of China Puyi, for constant theft of valuables, the three Eunuchs band together to survive outside the Forbidden City as civilians in Beijing. Life as civilians is harsh for the three as they face constant prejudice from revolutionists for being associated with China's imperial past while making a meager living working as kitchen help at an alleyway food stall and rent a small room living together in a dingy neighborhood.

The series begins with trio of single women living in Los Angeles - minorly successful writer Melanie Moretti, whose children are in college and who is going through a divorce, Victoria Chase, a soap opera and Lifetime movie actress best known for portraying Honor St. Raven on the recently cancelled soap opera drama Edge of Tomorrow, and British beautician and LA celebrity eyebrow specialist Joy Scroggs - boarding a plane headed for Paris for a vacation to do some actions outlined on Melanie's newest book "200 Things Every Woman Should Do Before She Dies". On the plane, Melanie runs into her estranged husband Anders, who is on vacation with his new fiancee, Kim, the woman he cheated on Melanie with during their marriage. As she sulks on the plane and is comforted by her friends, a lightning storm causes the plane to make an emergency landing in Cleveland. Upon arriving at a Cleveland bar, the women are fascinated when men look at and start hitting on them.

After her house is toilet papered and a rock with a vile note attached is thrown through her window in retaliation, Stella prepares to get even with those who would want her driven out of town. Hotel GB saw a group of Channel 4 personalities - headed by Mary Portas, Gordon Ramsay, Gok Wan, Kirstie Allsopp, Phil Spencer, Christian Jessen, Kim Woodburn and Piper - running a London hotel with the aim of training a group of young unemployed people for potential careers in the hospitality industry, with viewers able to visit the hotel as guests and use the facilities. Piper drew on her past as a beautician to run the hotel's salon/spa area, assisted by one of the apprentices, Manisha. In 2013, Piper took part in The Secret Millions, a Secret Millionaire spin-off which saw each of five C4 hosts--Piper, Gok Wan, George Clarke, David Fishwick and Jimmy Doherty--work with a charitable or public-service organisation, running a scheme or pilot with the aid of disadvantaged or unemployed individuals, with the aim of convincing the Big Lottery Fund to give up to £2million of funding (per scheme) for such projects to be rolled out more fully.
