Kelly first appears in Genoa City at a grief support group, telling the story about how her son, Sam, died after being struck by a car, leading it to the end of her marriage to her husband, Dean. Billy and Kelly continue to meet and discuss their grief outside of the group, as Billy finds Victoria hard to talk to. The band was originally conceived as a solo home studio project in 2007 by Euan Hinshelwood, who had previously played in several bands around Watford including garage rock bands CCTV and Noble Wilson, and folk outfit Kenton & Clarke before joining The New Shapes with whom he played bass. The New Shapes released 2 singles, got playlisted on XFM, received press attention via the NME and picked up for a Bacardi advert before splitting up. Hinshelwood released his debut digital-download single Could They be Jealous of Us in November 2009 via local label Culturedeluxe Records. The single was engineered by Peter Baker.

Frannie worries that Marcus may be jealous of her spending time with Jeffrey and his group.

The Big Oven is an 1899 Russian short storyТолстой, Лев Николаеви (1899) «Большая печка», viewed Russian original and electronic translation 30 July 2020 attributed to Leo Tolstoy about a man (in other tellings of the tale, a couple) whose house has a malfunctioning oven. Thinking his neighbour to be jealous of his large house, the character ignores out of hand his neighbour's suggestion to have the oven repaired. But even taking into account the ensuing Russian winter, he finds that the oven requires a disproportionately large amount of firewood to maintain a livable minimum temperature in the house...and ends up having to tear down his fences, outbuildings, and outer rooms for fuel to keep the oven going, until eventually he is left with nothing but the oven itself and has to go away and live with strangers. The story is a hypothetical fable decrying the folly of stubbornness and ignorance.

Resident Advisor described it as "one of those rare dance music albums that actually feels more comfortable listened to at home, by yourself, in a romantic yet solitary mood" and UR Chicago felt that it is "reveling in emotional abundance and wallowing in coarse electronics that even Olof Dreijer of The Knife would be jealous of" and that it is "easily a contender for one of the best [records] of the year". NME praised the band for making "disco so sexy and sultry that it almost makes you sticky", but criticized the album for rarely straying from "its glitzy formula". Drowned in Sound complimented the album for maintaining "a sense of cohesion throughout", but felt that this was done "at the expense of maintaining the listener's interest".
