The Kuiper belt is a relatively thick torus (or "doughnut") of space, extending from about 30 to 50 AU comprising two main populations of Kuiper belt objects (KBOs): the classical Kuiper-belt objects (or "cubewanos"), which lie in orbits untouched by Neptune, and the resonant Kuiper-belt objects; those which Neptune has locked into a precise orbital ratio such as 2:3 (the object goes around twice for every three Neptune orbits) and 1:2 (the object goes around once for every two Neptune orbits). These ratios, called orbital resonances, allow KBOs to persist in regions which Neptune's gravitational influence would otherwise have cleared out over the age of the Solar System, since the objects are never close enough to Neptune to be scattered by its gravity. Those in 2:3 resonances are known as "plutinos", because Pluto is the largest member of their group, whereas those in 1:2 resonances are known as "twotinos". In contrast to the Kuiper belt, the scattered-disc population can be disturbed by Neptune.

Chandrasekar explaining the physics of Prince Rupert's drops In 1994, Srinivasan Chandrasekar, an engineering professor at Purdue University, and Munawar Chaudhri, head of the materials group at the University of Cambridge, used high-speed framing photography to observe the drop-shattering process and concluded that while the surface of the drops experiences highly compressive stresses, the inside experiences high tension forces, creating a state of unequal equilibrium which can easily be disturbed by breaking the tail. However, this left the question of how the stresses are distributed throughout a Prince Rupert's drop. In a further study published in 2017, the team collaborated with Hillar Aben, a professor at Tallinn University of Technology in Estonia using a transmission polariscope to measure the optical retardation of light from a red LED as it travelled through the glass drop, and used the data to construct the stress distribution throughout the drop. This showed that the heads of the drops have a much higher surface compressive stress than previously thought at up to , but that this surface compressive layer is also thin, only about 10% of the diameter of the head of a drop.

Controversy ensued after the new school was built outside the town limits far into basically the middle of nowhere, instead of being built inside the town limits which would have boosted much needed heavy tax revenue into the town. The parcel of land it sits on now has long been rumored to be sacred native burial mounds according to the Ohio Historical Society, these religious mounds are not to ever be disturbed by outsiders. Many local townfolk were very disappointed at the wrong decision made to move the new high school outside the town limits, an informal phone poll showed that 98% were against the choice while the other 2% abstained or offered no comments, due to the very remote location, bus routes are often forced to start at the crack of dawn for pickups and to meet the time table of the opening bell for classes. The alternate location for the high school was said to be next to the former Rax fast food on Eastern avenue, which would have allowed for large tax revenues by school employees to be used for the town infrastructure.
