Inch Abbey has its own railway station, which opened in 2005. Located 200m from the Abbey itself, Inch Abbey station is the terminus of the Downpatrick and County Down Railway's North Line. The station is open on St. Patrick's Day, Easter, bank holidays and Summer weekends for heritage steam or diesel services to Downpatrick town.

Today, The Heath House continues to be inhabited by members of the Philips family who own and use the house and grounds as a private dwelling. However, The Heath House is periodically opened to the public for guided tours over the summer months and bank holidays. Great Central Railway is a heritage railway based at Loughborough Central Station, which is south of the town centre. It is operated largely by volunteers and trains run every weekend of the year and bank holidays, as well as daily during the summer. Every November, the street fair takes over the centre of the town, closing some roads. The fair runs from Wednesday afternoon until Saturday night.
The Foxfield Railway is a preserved standard gauge line located south east of Stoke-on-Trent. The line was built in 1893 to serve the colliery at Dilhorne on the Cheadle Coalfield. It joined the North Staffordshire Railway line near Blythe Bridge. It is open at weekends and operates trains on Sundays, Bank Holidays and some Saturdays from April to October and Santa Special trains in December.
Stansted Mountfitchet Windmill is operated on behalf of the Trustees by a voluntary organisation called 'The Stansted Millers'. They administer the public access and it is open from Easter to October on the first Sunday of each month, Bank Holidays and other special days from 1.30 - 5.30pm. The admission charge is £2 for adults, 50p for children 5-16 and is free to under 5s.
Radio 1 provides alternative programming on some Bank Holidays. Programmes have included 'The 10 Hour Takeover', a request-based special, in which the DJs on air would encourage listeners to select any available track to play, 'One Hit Wonder Day' and 'The Chart of the Decade' where the 150 biggest selling singles in the last 10 years were counted down and played in full.
To assist the elderly and disabled, many routes have low-floor buses. On 3 May 2005 Stagecoach opened a new coach station in Chesterfield (on the site of the old one) for their express routes, and also for National Express services. Although most routes operate all week, some do not operate on Sundays, and some only operate on Sundays. On bank holidays, a Sunday service is in operation.
Eaton has a public house, The Eight Bells,The Eight Bells Eaton which has a darts team and an Aunt Sally team. A ghost called Libby is reputed to haunt the pub. Oxfordshire County Council bus route 63 runs between Oxford and Southmoor via Eaton three times per day in each direction, every day except Sundays and Bank Holidays. The current contractor operating the route is RH Buses.
The house is now privately owned and is Grade I Listed. Parts of the house can be visited in the summer months and bank holidays between 2.30 p.m and 5:00 p.m. Apart from original painted frescoes and gilding (redone with an English Heritage grant in 2000) there is much to see including a Grinling Gibbons mirror, a William de Morgan jug and several mementos from the Battle of Trafalgar.
The Ongar railway station. Proposals have been made for restarting services to Epping. Since the closure of the Central Line branch between Epping and Ongar in 1994, there is no longer a commuter train service to/from the town. The Epping Ongar Railway operates both steam and diesel heritage services on the former Central line track, from North Weald Station on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays every hour to Ongar Station.
There are no large-scale patriotic parades, marches or other events, but shops and businesses are closed as with other bank holidays. The observation is generally overshadowed by the feast day of Our Lady of the Pillar (Fiestas del Pilar). This holiday was declared a religious feast day throughout the Spanish Empire in 1730. In recent years, celebration of the holiday has faced some opposition from various organizations.
The Clock Tower is open on weekends and bank holidays between Good Friday and the end of September. It also open under the Heritage Open Days scheme and is sometimes open during special occasions such as the turning on the St Albans Christmas Lights. Cambridge City Cemetery on the Cambridge City Council website Known locally as Newmarket Road Cemetery, the cemetery has unlimited pedestrian access everyday including Sundays and bank holidays. The facilities include a car park and a memorial chapel. In addition to the main burial ground, the cemetery also has a Jewish Section, a Muslim Section, a Roman Catholic section, a large Commonwealth War Graves Commission section and the Cantetebrigge Memorial Garden.
Other active operators include CentreBus, Blands and Peterborough Council. On Sundays and Bank Holidays from 16 May 2010, there are five journeys to Peterborough operated by Peterborough City Council, on routes via Wittering/Wansford, Duddington/Wansford, Burghley House/Barnack/Helpston and Uffington/Barnack/Helpston. There is a National Express coach service between London and Nottingham each day, including Sundays. Route maps and timetables are on Lincolnshire County Council's website.
The zoo is situated within a Northumberland College campus, which is also shared with Kirkley Hall. It is used solely as an educational training facility for students enrolled on animal care courses, except on weekends, bank holidays and school holidays when it also opens as a visitor attraction. The zoo houses over 200 species, including meerkats, raccoon dogs, bush dogs, binturongs, palm civets, small primates, fish, birds and reptiles.

A normal Saturday service or modified Monday to Friday service operates on most Bank Holidays On 18 December 2009 the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive (GMPTE) voted to approve funding for a one-year trial of Sunday trains from Walkden, starting on 23 May 2010. This proved successful and now runs twice per hour in each direction (one Blackburn to Southport train and a second between Wigan and Manchester Victoria).
During the late 1940s annual parades were held, with a procession of carts and lorries, one specially decorated for the West Marsh beauty queen. In 1956 the last tram ran from Corporation Bridge, however a bus route continued to serve the area. Buses only however run through the ward and not between community centres, which can be hard to access. At night, and on Sundays and Bank Holidays no buses run.
In 1977 it returned yet again, with punks fighting Teddy Boys at Margate, and revival skinheads fighting Teddy boys, bikers and rockers at Southend and Margate. This carried on until 1978. In 1979 and 1980, the resorts became major battlegrounds on bank holidays for young skinheads and mods together against Teddy boys and rockers. Some of the main resorts involved were Margate, Brighton, Southend, Clacton, Hastings and Scarborough.

The Eden Valley Railway (EVR) is a standard gauge heritage railway in Cumbria, England. It runs over a section of the original Eden Valley Railway in a north-westerly direction from the line's base at Warcop station. The line is run by the Eden Valley Railway Trust, formerly the Eden Valley Railway Society. The railway operates passenger trains from March to September on the weekends and Bank Holidays and some weekday workings in summer.
N.B In 2008, Easter Sunday fell on the Sunday 23 March, so most regions in England did not have its Easter Weekend inside its break. The term continued for another two weeks until the first Friday in April in 2008, in order to equal the school days in Term 2 and Term 3. The schools in England still closed on Friday 21 March and Monday 24 March 2008 as these were bank holidays.
Metrolink service is offered from Los Angeles Union station. Eastbound trains proceed to a staging yard next to the Perris-South station after departing. As of the October 2019 timetable, trains mostly operate during peak hours, with two trains per day, per direction on weekends and bank holidays. In addition to the main platform, a track pocket will be constructed to allow trains from the Southern California Railway Museum to turn around.
This is about a mile south of the site of the old Cliffe Park railway station. The Railway was purchased by the Leek and Rudyard Railway on 18 December 2015. This company owns the assets of the former Mull Railway and has plans to combine the two railways at Rudyard. Trains run at weekends and Bank Holidays from March to November, with more regular services from Easter to October and daily during school holidays.

The community- run Dynamo House Cafe adjacent to the Winding House is open the same hours. Bestwood Village has an active Women's Institute and is home to the Bestwood Male Voice Choir. The Bestwood Welfare Black Diamonds Brass Band has been running since 1947.
This was said to be a clear and comprehensive offer to patients. These urgent treatment centres were open for at least 12 hours a day, every day of the week, every week of the year, including bank holidays offering pre-bookable appointments. About 230 walk-in centres were opened in England in the 2000s. 51 closed between 2010 and 2014. 95 more were closed between 2014 and 2017 according to 38 Degrees.

The Bank Holidays were an Australian indie pop band from Perth, which formed in 2003 as Tunnelball by Nat Carson (guitar, piano, vocals), James Crombie (bass guitar, vocals), Wibekke (Bekk) Reczek (guitar, vocals) and Ian (Stafford) Chater (drums). Late in 2007 Chater was replaced by Stuart Leach. They have issued two studio albums, As a Film (15 October 2007) and Sail Becomes a Kite (17 July 2010). By late 2012 they had effectively disbanded.

Boulmer Volunteer Rescue Service was originally funded by the Duke of Northumberland and was run by the RNLI between 1825 and 1967 when the RNLI decided to withdraw the service. Re-established in 1967 when the community decided to buy their own private boat, it is now an independent lifeboat service, but currently only operates during daylight hours, weekends and on bank holidays due to a small crew and limited sea-traffic.
Construction of a two-level tunnel designed to solve these problems started in 2011 and was opened (in stages) by December 2016. In spite of several large underground car parks, parking in the city centre forms a major problem during weekends and bank holidays because of the large numbers of visitors. Parking fees are deliberately high to encourage visitors to use public transport or park and ride facilities away from the centre.

A LB&SCR; poster advertising the Isle of Wight Excursion trains from London to the South Coast and the Sussex countryside had been introduced in 1844,Turner (1977), p. 187. and were a feature of the LB&SCR; throughout its existence. Special fares to Brighton and other south coast resorts on summer Sundays and at bank holidays were regularly advertised in the press. Likewise, special trains serving the regular fetes and exhibitions at Crystal Palace during the summer months.
Before 2016, the physical rail link between Connolly Station and Heuston via the Phoenix Park Tunnel was usually only used for freight and rolling stock movements. Once or twice a year special trains operated, usually from Cork to Connolly for Gaelic Athletic Association matches at Croke Park. A more regular service along this route began on 21 November 2016. Apedale Heritage Centre The Apedale Heritage Centre was created at the site of Staffordshire's Apedale Mine and is run by volunteers. It is located just outside the village of Chesterton near Newcastle-under-Lyme in the Apedale Community Country Park. Attractions include mine tours and a museum which concentrates on the area's history, concentrating on industrial heritage. Opening times are 10:30 to 16:00 daily with the underground tours taking place at weekends and bank holidays.
The windmill is now a museum, detailing its own history, as well as the history of windmills in general. The museum is open at weekends and Bank Holidays from March to October. It features interactive exhibits, such as push-button models and grain-grinding activities, in addition to visitors being able to explore the layout and use of the actual mill. The windmill and the nearby cafe are situated on the Common adjacent to both open spaces and woodland.

On 1 April 2000, Freeman presented his last show and retired for health reasons, and the show was taken over by Dale Winton, who joined him on this edition. The station opened as "Barcombe" but was renamed "Barcombe Mills" in 1885 so as to avoid confusion with Barcombe station on the Lewes to East Grinstead line. Despite its name, the station is actually situated almost a mile to the south-east of Barcombe village. It was always a popular station for anglers who were able to fish for trout in the nearby River Ouse. On pre-World War II bank holidays as many as 1000 tickets were sold in one day.

Rye House Gatehouse still stands today, and is now a Grade 1 listed building, with high- quality diaper brickwork and a "barley sugar twist" chimney. The rest of the grass- covered site has the floor-plan of the house marked out. A new chapel of ease, dedicated to St Paul, was built in 1762.

Carlingford railway station opened on 1 August 1876, but finally closed on 1 January 1952 when the Dundalk, Newry & Greenore Railway ceased operations. In 1948 the film 'Saints and Sinners' used various locations around Carlingford including a scene at the beginning at the station of a DN&GR; train arriving. Bus Éireann route 161 operates Monday to Saturday, providing seven journeys to Dundalk via Greenore and four journeys to Newry via Omeath. This service does not operate on Sundays or Bank Holidays.
The market moved into the Mall shopping centre in 2011, and opens 6 days a week (closed on bank holidays). Major employers in Blackburn include: Blackburn College, Thwaites Brewery, BAE Systems (Samlesbury Aerodrome site, located at Samlesbury, northwest of Blackburn); Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council; and the East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (based at the Royal Blackburn Hospital). Wivenhoe station is served by an electric rail service to and from London Liverpool Street via Colchester currently provided by Abellio Greater Anglia. The town is connected by a seasonal foot ferry service which runs during the weekend and on bank holidays according to the tide from April to mid October across the River Colne, Essex to Fingringhoe and Rowhedge. There is a bus connection to Colchester. Wivenhoe is just over one hour from Stansted Airport and 30 minutes from Harwich International Port.
From 1986 Mercury operated public payphones in the UK, in competition with BT. These proved not to be profitable and this interest was sold in 1995. They were notable for their varied designs which imitated architectural styles. Mercury also operated the first GSM 1800 mobile phone service, launched in 1993 as Mercury One2one. The service was first rolled out in the London area bounded by the M25, and offered free mobile to landline calls at off-peak times, weekends and Bank Holidays.
With completion of modern infrastructure projects in the second half of the 19th century, the Elbchausee became popular as a local recreational area. On weekends and bank holidays, the new railway, tram and ferry lines brought large crowds to the Elbchaussee and its beaches. In the 1890s the management of the promenade was transferred to municipal authorities. The Elbe suburbs were merged into the town of Altona in 1927, which in turn was merged into the city of Hamburg in 1937.
British Railways closed the railway through Chinnor to passengers in 1957 and to goods in 1961. Cosmeston Lake view Cosmeston Lakes Country Park has been a popular attraction, throughout the years since it was developed in 1970. Apart from the lake and a wide range of water fowl there are acres of pleasant walks in woodlands and on the heath. Cosmeston Medieval Village is open daily and features historical re-enactments during the summer weekends and on bank holidays. The reconstruction of the historical village has been described as the best of its kind in Britain.
Cholsey railway station Cholsey is served by Cholsey railway station, a calling point for Great Western Railway stopping services on the Great Western Main Line between Reading and Didcot. The station was also the junction for a branch line to , nicknamed the "Wallingford Bunk", which the heritage Cholsey and Wallingford Railway now operates on Bank Holidays and some weekends. From Mondays to Saturdays Thames Travel bus route 136 links Cholsey with Wallingford and Benson. There is no evening, Sunday or bank holiday service.

Nowadays the Costurero de la Reina lodges the tourist information office on the ground floor. The opening times are 9-2 pm and 3.30 to 7.30 pm, on weekdays and 10-2pm during weekends and bank holidays. The building was restored in the spring of 2007 to repair the main structure and to arrange the interior in order to make it more functional. The first floor was refurbished recently and it is used as meetings and events room of the local government.
Miniature Steam Railway track The park includes a long miniature railway operating on a 5-inch gauge, which is open on occasional weekends and bank holidays throughout spring, summer and autumn. The railway is run by the Brighton & Hove Society of Miniature Locomotive Engineers, which was formed from part of Brighton Model Engineers in 1962. The track was upgraded to use concrete sections following damage caused by the Great Storm of 1987. Each separate section bears a plate detailing the name of the individual who sponsored it.
Weekdays (daytime) the line is served by two units, providing an hourly service each way (southbound to Wrexham Central and northbound to Bidston). After 18:45 (and all day on bank holidays) the service is provided by one unit, giving one train in each direction every two hours. On Sundays the service is roughly every 90 minutes. There is a connection at Bidston for onward travel for stations to via the Wirral Line and at Wrexham General for stations to and beyond and for Chester.

Davison's Mill, also known as Stelling Minnis Windmill, is a Grade I listed smock mill in Stelling Minnis, Kent, England that was built in 1866. It was the last windmill working commercially in Kent when it closed in the autumn of 1970. The mill is managed by the Stelling Minnis Windmill and Museum Trust, which came into being on 26 January 2010. It is open to visitors each year from Easter Sunday to the end of September on Sundays and Bank Holidays, from 2pm to 5pm.

This originated in the early 1960s with the mods and rockers fighting each other at places such as Brighton. The phenomenon returned in 1969 through to 1970 with skinheads fighting Teddy boys and bikers.

Today the airfield has a CAA Ordinary Licence (Number P681) that allows flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction as authorised by the licensee (Radarmoor Limited). It is primarily a general aviation (GA) airfield; see UKGA for details. Wellesbourne Mountford also has an annual wings and wheels event where military and classic cars meet with various aircraft including the in-house Avro Vulcan bomber XM655. The airfield holds a large market held on Saturdays and Bank Holidays on the eastern side.
In 1983, a Cessna 206 was purchased and, in 1988, the club moved to its current location at Clonbullogue Airfield. Most Irish skydiving records have been set at this location, including a 51 person formation in July 2008. There have been important developments more recently including the construction of hangars and other buildings and the purchase of a PAC P-750 XSTOL turbine aircraft. Averaging over twelve thousand jumps annually, the IPC operates on weekends and bank holidays, and offers tandem skydiving, accelerated freefall, and static line parachuting training programmes.
The fish ponds are fed by Moor Dyke, the only stream to flow through Elton. GB National Railway Timetable 2013-14, Tables 90 & 91 This service ceased to serve South Parkway in May 2018, reverting to operate between Liverpool Lime Street and Blackpool North only. TransPennine Express trains served the station with an hourly service to Scarborough from December 2010. This ended in May 2018 when TransPennine services were rerouted to use the Chat Moss route between Liverpool and Manchester via Newton-le-Willows. A shuttle bus formerly provided a link to the National Trust's property at Speke Hall, running weekends and bank holidays between April and September.

Le Val des Terres, a steeply winding road rising south from St Peter Port to Fort George, is often the focus of both local and international hill-climb races. In addition, the 2005, 2006 and 2007 World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx is a Guernseyman. The racecourse on L'Ancresse Common was re-established in 2004 after a gap of 13 years, with the first new race occurring on 2 May 2005. Races are held on most May day bank holidays, with competitors from Guernsey as well as Jersey, France and the UK participating.
In 1815, the two lightest bells were sold, and the 9th was recast by William Dobson of Downham. The tenor bell was recast by Taylors of Loughborough in 1902, and in 1947 they added two trebles to make a ring of ten again. Being a redundant church, there is no ringing for Sunday services, but there is a regular practice on Monday evening (usually 19:00 to 21:15), though it is advisable to enquire, particularly for Bank Holidays. The three-decker pulpit and choirstalls have been dismantled and put into storage.

In the United Kingdom the government website states that "If a bank holiday is on a weekend, a 'substitute' weekday becomes a bank holiday, normally the following Monday.", and the list of bank holidays for the year 2020 includes Monday 28 December as "Boxing Day (substitute day)", as 26 December is a Saturday. The process of moving a holiday from a weekend day to the following Monday is known as Mondayisation in New Zealand.
Wurster was born on 20 October 1895 in Stockton, California. His family encouraged him to observe, read and draw but Wurster often admitted later in life, to holding more of an intellectual gift, rather than a drawing gift. As a child, he held a close relationship with his father, a banker who, on bank holidays and weekends, would take Wurster to observe the life of the town to show him how it functioned. This, Wurster later reflected, was to show him the workings, rather than the structures of the city.
In 1969 Dougal was bought by the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway and was first steamed there in 1975. Although too small to operate the standard service on the railway it is steamed regularly at bank holidays and gala weekends, where it can often be seen shunting between Llanfair Caereinion and Cyfronydd. It is currently awaiting funding for a new boiler. In 2018, Dougal was shipped to Taiwan as part of a cooperation agreement between the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway and the Taiwan Sugar Corporation, which operates five short heritage railways at former mills.

Services to Wrexham are usually provided by a Transport for Wales, double-carriage, Class 150/2 "Sprinter" DMU. Though, in the past, services have been provided with an Arriva Trains Wales, single-carriage, Class 153 "Super Sprinter" DMU.
Steam train at Layerthorpe in September 1977 Until 1990, a small preservation group, the Great Yorkshire Railway Preservation Society, was originally based at Starbeck near Harrogate. When this closed, the society members relocated to the Yorkshire Museum of Farming, and started to rebuild approximately of track towards York, including the section under the York by- pass. A new station was constructed using the original station buildings from Wheldrake, and the railway re-opened in 1993. The line now runs a mixture of nine diesel locomotives on Sundays and bank holidays.
Depending on the season, two or three performances take place every day in the large arena. During the week, the dolphinarium is free-of-charge for visitors between performances (but not on Sundays or bank holidays). It regularly offers special treats, such as "An Evening with the Dolphins" or "Zookeeper for a Day" and weddings or children's birthday parties can be celebrated there. Dolphins have been born and bred in Duisburg several times: Duphi (1988; since died), Delphi (1992), Daisy (1996), Duke (2001; since died) and Dolly (2007, the daughter of Delphi).
The EKR operates on most Sundays and Bank Holidays between April and September and selected Saturdays in mid summer. The EKR also owns an extensive ancient woodland known as "The Knees". The railway uses The Knees as an educational resource, woodland walks - the bluebells in spring are a popular attraction and for special events such as halloween. The railway hosts other groups, including the Southern Electric Group, EKR Trolleybus Group and the 427 Locomotive Group and recently the Network SouthEast Railway Society as they have moved their Museum Container.
A very occasional bus service is operated on summer Sundays and bank holidays, between Hawes and Settle via Ribblehead (in 2019, one journey each way). At other times there are no onward services available from this station. Passengers for Hawes and Wensleydale generally alight at nearby Garsdale railway station, and use the regular bus service operated by Upper Wensleydale Community Partnership, branded as the 'little white bus'. The last train of the day from Leeds terminates at Ribblehead, but the station has no onward links for passengers leaving that service.
The airfield was used for flying aeroplanes out of the Cofton Hackett aircraft factory. Between 1939 and 1945, the factory produced mainly Hawker Hurricane fighters, Short Stirling four-engined bombers that were flown out over Rednal. In 1924, the Birmingham tram system was extended along the central reservation of the Bristol Road South to the new Rednal Terminus, with a branch to Rubery. The new line drew thousands of visitors from the city and all over the Black Country to Rednal and the Lickeys at weekends and on bank holidays.
The onset of the Great Depression in 1929 as well as bank holidays enacted by Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933 made it impossible for Wall Street investors to supply the major Hollywood film studios with the cash flow they needed. Studio executives cut salaries for their employees but took no cuts for themselves, leading to a mass spree of unionization in Hollywood. The executives retaliated by firing union members and picketers at a steady rate. In Hollywood, animators were originally unionized under the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees in 1914.
The Bombardier Flexity 2 trams now operate main services, with modified English Electric Balloon double-deck trams available if necessary. A 'heritage service' provided by unmodified, traditional trams operates on select weekdays, weekends, bank holidays and summer months, as well as on tours during the illuminations. They stop only at special 'heritage stops' next to normal tram stops at Pleasure Beach, North Pier, Cabin, Bispham, Cleveleys and Fleetwood Ferry. Temporary 'heritage stops' are also used for the traditional trams during select special events, such as at Starr Gate.
Services would always call when travelling to Lydney Junction (a necessity to operate the Bypass Level Crossing). After 2009 however services only called only on request heading towards Norchard, Lydney Town, Whitecroft, and Parkend until closure. In 1993, five services would operate each running day between April and October (a later service would run on Sundays, Bank Holidays, and other selected days). The first train would depart at 11:00 from the then new Norchard Low Level platform, with a journey time of 10 minutes to the Lakeside.
The NMES is a registered charity (No 532259) and the museum has received Accredited Museum status from Arts Council England, the government body responsible for museums policy. The museum is open most Wednesdays and Sundays between 10 am and 2 pm when visitors can view the engines statically when volunteers are working at the museum. Special Open Days are held each year on Bank Holidays weekends when the engines are working under steam power. However, visits by genuine enthusiasts or organised groups can always be accommodated by prior arrangement.

The New Year derby match has sometimes not taken place in recent years, due to a shutdown in early January being introduced to the schedule. Of the 94 Edinburgh derbies played at New Year, Hibs hold a slight lead of 32 wins to 30 wins by Hearts. During the 1940 New Year's Day match, Easter Road was covered with a thick fog that would normally cause a football match to be abandoned.

In the early 1960s, Rix was the highest- paid actor (along with Robert Morley) to appear on BBC Television. There are bus stops in Camp Road: at the east end of the village near the junction of Somerton Road, and at Heyford Park near the entrance of the former airfield. Buses run from Mondays to Saturdays, mostly at hourly intervals. There is no late evening service, and no service on Sundays or bank holidays.
Out-of-hours services are the arrangements to provide access to healthcare at times when General Practitioner surgeries are closed; in the United Kingdom this is normally between 6.30pm and 8am, at weekends, at Bank Holidays and sometimes if the practice is closed for educational sessions. Most Out-of- hours services in Scotland and Wales are provided directly by Health Boards. In Northern Ireland they are provided by the Health and Social Care Trusts. In England they are commissioned by Clinical Commissioning Groups, usually working together, as the contracts often cover large areas.
This currently only happens on special events and bank holidays, as it requires two signalmen, one at each end of the loop, to be stationed for the day as there is currently no signal box to control movements in and out of the loop centrally. The former Oddingly crossing box is currently being restored for use as a signal box at Shottle. Two-train operation should be able to happen more regularly once it is finished. An unusual piece of track work was installed at Wirksworth on platform 3.
The wakes holiday started as an unpaid holiday when the mills and factories were closed for maintenance. Each town in Lancashire took the holiday on a different week in the summer so that from June to September each town was on holiday a different week. In 1906, an agreement on unpaid holidays was reached which became the pattern for the Wakes holidays in Lancashire mill towns. It was implemented in 1907 and guaranteed 12 days annual holiday, including bank holidays — this was increased to 15 days in 1915.
The party has mobilised English nationalist sentiment brought on by English concerns following the devolution within the UK and the rise of Welsh and Scottish nationalisms. The party initially opposed federalism in the UK, criticising the establishment of the Welsh Assembly and Scottish Parliament. However, in September 2011 Farage and the NEC announced their support for the establishment of an English Parliament to accompany the other devolved governments. African tribes used costumed figures to represent elements such as fertility, witch doctors, and describing routes of commercial transportation, as well as having survived difficult times. In the Barbados Tuk Band, the regular costumed figures are Shaggy Bear (who is sometimes called the Bank Holiday Bear), the Donkey Man, Mother Sally, a masked man dressed up like a woman with an exaggerated behind, and the Stiltman. Shaggy Bear is said to represent an African witch doctor figure. Shaggy gained a reputation as the Bank Holiday Bear because he always shows up on island Bank Holidays.
The first direct services from West Kirby and New Brighton to Liverpool Central ran on 14 March 1938, the LMS operating the West Kirby services and the Mersey Railway running the New Brighton services. To keep LMS and Mersey Railway workers familiar with each other's routes, on Sundays the LMS worked the Rock Ferry services, and the Mersey Railway trains ran to West Kirby. The Mersey Railway also ran additional services to West Kirby on bank holidays to cater for day-trippers. During the Second World War, the Liverpool Blitz of 1940-1941 caused severe damage to the Mersey Railway.

Vulcan Drewry 0-4-0 diesel locomotive Elizabeth and former London Underground 1959 Tube Stock cars The Alderney Railway on Alderney is the only railway in the Bailiwick of Guernsey, and the only working railway in the Channel Islands. (There is a standard gauge railway at the Pallot Heritage Steam Museum in Jersey, but this provides no actual transport link, only pleasure rides.) The Alderney Railway opened in 1847 and runs for about , mostly following a coastal route, from Braye Road to Mannez Quarry and Lighthouse. The railway is run by volunteers and usually operates during summer weekends and bank holidays.

The Museum is run by The Solway Aviation Society Ltd and staffed by unpaid volunteers. The Society is a registered charity supported by entrance charges to the Museum, and public donations. In addition to normal opening (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays plus Bank Holidays from April until October end) the Museum hosts educational visits for school classes studying the Second World War and for Scout, Cub and Beaver packs achieving their Air Activities Badge. Following the closure of the RAF Millom Museum many of the artefacts were moved to Solway Aviation Museum for safe keeping and eventual exhibition when space permits.

The Cathedral at St. David's, Pembrokeshire These are the main holidays traditionally celebrated in Wales that are not shared with the rest of the United Kingdom. Except for those that fall at the same time as UK public holidays, none of these holidays are bank holidays. There is, however, much support for the recognition of St David's Day as a bank holiday in Wales, in the same way as St Patrick's Day in Northern Ireland, and St Andrew's Day in Scotland. Eskimo Joe's first gig was in August 1997 at the University of Western Australia, in a local heat for the National Campus Band Competition—they proceeded to the state final in Perth and then the national final in Sydney. For winning the national final, they were awarded a place at the 1997 Livid Festival in Brisbane and a studio recording session in Sydney. Freud's Pillow officially split within a few months of Eskimo Joes' win. Simon Leach eventually formed Little Birdy in 2002, while Stuart played drums for One Horse Town and later for The Bank Holidays.

In all, some 300 milk churns were handled daily at Waterhouses, and from 1919 a daily milk train ran from Waterhouses to London specifically for this traffic. Latterly milk tanks were used, carried on the transporter wagons. Passenger traffic was minimal – the settlements were mostly some distance from the line – except on Bank Holidays when all the line's rolling stock was used to run frequent services to handle the crowds. There was some talk of extending the line northwards, whereby Hulme End (and its engine shed) would become the half-way point of the line, but this never materialised.

In the Working Time Directive article 7 refers to paid annual leave of "at least four weeks", but does not directly define a "week", and nor do the regulations. Taybarns was a British low cost all-you-can-eat restaurant chain owned by Whitbread, modelled on the Golden Corral chain in the United States. Customers paid on arrival and could eat as much food as they liked from a thirty four metre long food counter. As with most buffets, there was a lower price at lunchtime than evenings, and a slightly higher charge was levied at weekends and during bank holidays. In March 2016, it was announced that following a strategic corporate review, all Taybarns Restaurants would close and convert to pub restaurants of Brewers Fayre.

Historical reenactors on the fort's parade ground From 2010, under a "Rescue Camden" banner, a community group of volunteers began reclaiming and restoring Camden Fort Meagher. With input from Cork County Council, Foras Áiseanna Saothair (the Training and Employment Authority), and other partners, the group began to clean, restore, develop and (ultimately) operate the fort as a tourism and heritage centre. Some of these works were covered in documentary programming by RTÉ. As of 2017, the fort and its surrounding 45 acre site were open visitors, but limited to weekends and bank holidays between May and September.
The 11-day weekend was the name given by the British media to the period of time between Friday, 22 April and 2 May 2011. As a moveable feast, the bank holidays for Easter (Good Friday and Easter Monday) can occur any day between 20 March and 26 April. In the late 19th century the Presbyterians began to embrace Christmas celebrations, and as sectarianism between the different ethnic communities decreased the holiday became widely observed by all New Zealanders—albeit as a low-key, private affair until the late 20th century. Christmas Day became a bank holiday following the Bank Holidays Act 1873, and all workers were entitled to a day off for Christmas as a result of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act 1894. The Public Holidays Act 1910 further established Christmas Day and "the day after Christmas Day" (Boxing Day) as non-working days.
Guildford's easternmost junction with the A3 trunk road is named The Burpham Interchange, despite the fact that it is a restricted junction, only providing access for traffic heading to or from the London direction. Burpham is on several bus routes that start or finish in Guildford. Routes 36 (Guildford - Burpham - Merrow - Guildford) and 37 (Guildford - Merrow - Burpham - Guildford), are circular routes both operated by Arriva, running at 20-minute intervals Monday to Saturday and hourly intervals on Sundays and Bank Holidays. In Scotland, Boxing Day has been specified as an additional bank holiday since 1974, by royal proclamation under the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971. Emergency certificates do not enable treatment against the will of detainees, except for urgent treatment, and there is no formal process of appeal against them. Unless a certificate is completed for someone who is already in a mental health hospital, both forms of detention are preceded by detention of up to 72 hours in what are called 'places of safety', while transport to hospital is arranged. Also, short-term detentions may be extended for periods of up to three 'working days', to facilitate applications to the Mental Health Tribunal for compulsory treatment orders. In healthcare, the weekend effect is the finding of a difference in mortality rate for patients admitted to hospital for treatment at the weekend compared to those admitted on a weekday. The effects of the weekend on patient outcomes has been a concern since the late 1970s, and a ‘weekend effect’ is now well documented. Although this is a controversial area, the balance of opinion is that the weekend (and bank holidays) have a deleterious effect on patient care (and specifically increase mortality)—based on the larger studies that have been carried out. Basford Beam Engine The Nottingham Industrial Museum is a volunteer-run museum situated in part of the 17th-century stables block of Wollaton Hall, located in a suburb of the city of Nottingham. The museum won the Nottinghamshire Heritage Site of the Year Award 2012, a local accolade issued by Experience Nottinghamshire. The Museum collection closed in 2009 after Nottingham City Council withdrew funding, but has since reopened at weekends and bank holidays, helped by a £91,000 government grant Nottingham Industrial Museum reopens after three years, BBC News, Nottingham, 17 March 2012. Additional evening services operate between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm on Wednesdays in July and August, and on Tuesdays in August only. One of the resident steam locomotives is in service wherever possible for each of the advertised operating days. When the line first re- opened services were also provided on bank holidays and public holidays, but this practice has been discontinued in more recent years. As part of the involvement with the Year of Railways in 1993 and subsequent anniversaries, the line has operated daily for periods of up to one week, the last being as part of Steam 125 in 1998 when visiting locomotives were in attendance.
BBC Weekend News is the national news programmes on BBC One at the weekend and bank holidays, although it is often referred to on guides simply as BBC News. It is called BBC Weekend News on all bulletins apart from being broadcast on Weekend at the 10:00pm hour, where it is named the BBC News at Ten. The United Kingdom weather forecast is at 15 minutes and 45 minutes past the hour throughout the programme, either from the BBC Weather Centre in Broadcasting House, or out on location. Short (approximately four minutes) regional news, travel and weather bulletins are done just before the hour and the half-hour throughout the programme. Once the BBC News Channel breaks away for its own programming (starting from BBC News at Nine) at 09:00, the programme is extended until 09:15 on BBC One. The show is abbreviated during bank holidays to just three hours but still features regional news updates, and is completely simulcast on the BBC News Channel.
Dixter Halt was opened before the reopening of the section of the Kent and East Sussex Railway (KESR) between Northiam and Bodiam. It was located at the point where the grounds of Great Dixter house adjoin the line. The station was ceremonially opened on 25 May 1981, the first train to call being hauled by a Peckett 0-4-0T Marcia and composed of a former District Railway coach and an ex-LNWR brake van. These services continued on Bank Holidays and other special occasions until the August Bank Holiday in 1983, the Thameside Area Group of the KESR using the halt for their Steam at Bodiam Events.
The need to change at Birkenhead Park was removed transforming the station into a through station. It was normal for the new LMS trains to operate the Liverpool to West Kirby route, and the older Mersey Railway trains to operate the Liverpool to New Brighton route, except for Sundays and bank holidays. From 1938 electrification of the Wirral lines integrated both the Mersey Railway and LMS (Wirral) railway services to New Brighton and West Kirby. However the former Wirral Railway branch to Seacombe was still operated by steam trains, not those of its owner the LMS but trains of the LNER from the Chester and Wrexham lines through Bidston.
Instead, Radio 1 shared airtime with Radio 2 FM, on Saturday afternoons, Sunday evenings, weekday evenings (10pm to midnight) and Bank Holidays, eventually having its own FM frequency starting in London in October 1987 on 104.8 MHz at Crystal Palace. Eventually in 1987 a frequency range of 97.6-99.8 MHz was allocated as police relay transmitters were moved from the 100 MHz frequency, starting in London before being broadly completed by 1989, where Radio 1 in London moved from the latter frequency to 98.8 MHz to the BBC's Wrotham transmitter. This followed the BBC Radio 1 FM frequencies being rolled out to the rest of the UK.
The two railway stations serve separate lines. Yeovil Pen Mill is on the Bristol to Weymouth line, served by Great Western Railway services, and Yeovil Junction is on the London Waterloo to Exeter line served by South Western Railway. Both are some distance from the centre of Yeovil: Pen Mill just under to the east and Junction just over to the south. During his tenure as Secretary of Commerce, Chapin was unsuccessful in persuading Henry Ford to provide financial help to avoid the collapse of the Union Guardian Trust Company of Detroit. Ford's refusal to aid the bank in averting a financial failure led to the Michigan Bank Holiday, an event that began a series of state bank holidays and ultimately to the passage of Roosevelt administration's Emergency Banking Act of 1933.
3 Cosas was a campaign led by outsourced cleaners who work at the University of London to improve working conditions. 3 Cosas, translated as 3 things, equates to the three demands that the outsourced cleaners were striking over. These demands were 22–25 days paid annual leave, in addition to Bank holidays, sick pay of up to 26 days a year depending on length of service, and adequate pension contributions. The strike was notable for gaining support from Natalie Bennett, then the leader of the Green Party, who wrote a letter of support, Jeremy Corbyn, MP for North Islington, John McDonnell, MP for Hayes & Harlington and Andy Burnham, MP for Leigh.

Henry Coxwell and James Glaisher were the first to fly from Hendon in a balloon called the Mammoth in 1862; and ballooning at the Brent Reservoir was a very popular spectacle for the crowds gathered on bank holidays late in the 19th century. The first powered flight from Hendon was in an long non-rigid airship built by Spencer Brothers of Highbury. It took off from the Welsh Harp Reservoir in 1909, piloted by Henry Spencer, and the only passenger was Muriel Matters, the Australian suffragette. The road is the major thoroughfare of Salento and contains many shops, mainly selling locally-made handcrafts.
By late 2003, reflecting a widespread decline in UK super club attendance, the Gatecrasher event changed from a monthly event to one held only on special occasions, such as Bank Holidays. In order for Gatecrasher to continue, the company began to focus on the nightclub market and not just single events. In 2003, the company re-branded The Republic, completely refitted the club, and renamed it "Gatecrasher One", in preparation for another ten new Gatecrasher venues around the UK. The Ashdown Forest Centre The Ashdown Forest Centre, situated opposite Ashdown Park Hotel between Wych Cross and Coleman's Hatch, houses a visitor centre and is the administrative base for the Board of Conservators of Ashdown Forest. Completed in 1983, it consists of three old reconstructed barns. The visitor centre has a permanent display about the forest's history and wildlife, details of walks in the forest and much other useful information for visitors, and an exhibition area for local craft and art work. It is open 7 days a week during the summer, weekends in the winter, and on bank holidays except Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Whitley Bridge has a limited service – Monday to Saturdays, one (early evening) train a day goes to Goole and two per day go to Leeds (one in the morning business peak and the other mid-evening). There is no Sunday service. Trains operate on Bank holidays. The routes serve City College Norwich, Anglia Square shopping centre, Sprowston Tesco, Sprowston Manor, the quays along the River Bure in Hoveton and Wroxham, Hoveton & Wroxham railway station and the Bure Valley Railway. The Pink Line operates every 10 minutes during daytimes from Monday to Saturday, reducing to half-hourly on Sundays and bank holidays and hourly during evenings. In April 2016, the Pink Line was upgraded, receiving nine brand new Wright StreetDeck Double Deck Buses featuring free WiFi on board and e-leather seats. For the 10/10A services for which has narrower streets, two Alexander Dennis Enviro200s and one Dennis Dart MPD are used.
Moorsbus is a network of bus services operating to and around the North York Moors National Park and surrounding areas. It was operated from the 1980s by the North York Moors National Park Authority, and linked places such as Malton, Teesside, Thirsk, York and Hull to the National Park. The Moorsbus connected those in major towns and cities in the region with the picturesque villages and attractions of the National Park on Sundays and Bank Holidays when there were no other public transport services. The network ceased operation at the end of October 2013 following severe budgetary constraints for the North York Moors National Park Authority, its sponsor.
The new English National Concessionary Bus Travel Scheme bus pass The English National Concessionary Travel Scheme is a national scheme by the Department for Transport in conjunction with local authorities across England. The scheme extended the provision of free bus travel within individual local authorities to allow travel throughout England from 1 April 2008. English residents who have attained the state pension age for women, which is gradually being increased from 60 to 66, as well as eligible disabled people, are provided with free off-peak bus travel on weekdays and all day at weekends and bank holidays. Certain local authorities offer extra benefits for use within their area.
British Rail Class 105 units were allocated to the depot from November 1958 having been transferred from Springhead which was acting as the local DMU depot whilst Botanic Gardens was being built. These operated the local Hornsea and Withernsea branches and on bank holidays it was not unknown for 8 car formations to be used on these lines. They were employed on other East Yorkshire lines from the late 1950s until the early 1980s. Similarly British Rail Class 101 Metropolitan Cammell Units were allocated to Springhead and thence Botanic Gardens in the late 1950s. They were still allocated to the shed in the mid 1980s where some 4-car sets were reduced to 3-cars.
The Network SouthEast brand was introduced to what had been the London & South East sector of British Rail on 10 June 1986. The railcard was then introduced on 29 September 1986, under the name Network Card. It offered a 34% discount on all off-peak fares for journeys wholly within the Network SouthEast area. Tickets valid at peak times, such as Day Returns and Open Returns, were excluded, as were First Class tickets (however, a supplement ticket could be bought to upgrade a discounted Standard Class ticket to First Class at weekends). On weekdays, journeys had to start after 10.00am, but there were no time restrictions at weekends or on Bank Holidays.
The violence and destruction by visitors to Bournemouth continued over the holiday weekend, causing more than £1 million worth of damage and injury to opposing fans and police officers. The town's Daily Echo newspaper reported that "spectators, including many young children, had to run to safety as missiles were hurled and riot police waded in to control the crowds." The matter was raised in Parliament by one of the town's MPs. Financially, the Leeds trouble affected the club for more than a decade, as Bournemouth were prevented by local police from staging home games on Bank Holidays (traditionally a popular day for football) until a game against Shrewsbury Town on 21 April 2003.
Bank and public holidays in Scotland are determined under the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971 and the St Andrew's Day Bank Holiday (Scotland) Act 2007. Unlike the rest of United Kingdom, most bank holidays are not recognised as statutory public holidays in Scotland, as most public holidays are determined by local authorities across Scotland. Some of these may be taken in lieu of statutory holidays, while others may be additional holidays, although many companies, including Royal Mail, do not follow all the holidays listed below; and many swap between English and local holidays. Many large shops and supermarkets continue to operate normally during public holidays, especially since there are no restrictions such as Sunday trading rules in Scotland.
There are records of crowds as far back as the Rose and Crown up Rose Hill on busy Sundays, as families queued for the trams to take them home. The trams were removed when the trams were replaced by buses in 1953, but the terminus turning circle and its extensive waiting shelter remained in situ until well into the 1960s, and it is believed that they continued to be used by the buses on bank holidays. The original tram station offices are now used as a Chinese restaurant. A small development of retirement homes and a carpark were built on the site of the terminus, but several short lengths of tramlines are still visible on front gardens and pathways.
Cartmel Racecourse is a small national hunt racecourse in the village of Cartmel, now in the Ceremonial County of Cumbria, historically in Lancashire. Nine racedays are held each year, starting on the Whit Holiday weekend at the end of May and ending on the August Bank Holiday weekend in August Bank Holidays. The three-day May race meeting actually takes place over five days – allowing a day off for racegoers to enjoy the Lake District countryside in between each day at the races. The racegoers arrive so early in the day and leave so late that, unlike most racecourses, there is not time to clear up and turn the racecourse around for consecutive days racing.
The elevated nature of the line (at Parsley Hay it is over above sea level) means that it affords good views, but it is exposed in poor weather. The trail runs gently downhill from Parsley Hay southwards, but about north of the cycle hire centre at Mapleton Lane, Ashbourne, the trail dips down and up where a viaduct has been removed; both slopes are about long with gradients of 1:9. Hartington signal box, beside the trail although some distance from the village, has been converted to an Information Centre, open in summer on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. The National Park Authority operates cycle hire at both ends of the trail.
In the United Kingdom, all general elections since 1935 have been held on a Thursday, and this has become a tradition, although not a requirement of the law — which merely states that an election may be held on any day "except Saturdays, Sundays, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Good Friday, bank holidays in any part of the United Kingdom and any day appointed for public thanksgiving and mourning." Between Lavernock and Penarth the track bed is a rural greenway and cycle track. When the rail link arrived at the start of the 20th century the bays of Swanbridge, St Mary's Well and Lavernock became popular summer time destination for day trippers from Cardiff, Penarth and the South Wales valleys particularly at weekends and on Bank Holidays. For nearly a hundred years there was a busy and profitable cafe and ice cream parlour, located at the St Mary's Well Bay end of the Swanbridge carpark, that was closed and demolished around 1970 when the through road was blocked off to traffic. Roads in the Imber area are also closed, as they lie within the Imber Range live firing area; it is possible to walk all of the perimeter of the range on public footpaths.

One of the earliest known depictions of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus (Rabbula Gospel illuminated manuscript, 6th century) The celebration of Easter Day is not fixed and is a movable observance. Easter Day, also known as Resurrection Sunday, marks the high point of the Christian year. It is a festival and holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial after his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary 30 AD. It is the culmination of the Passion of Jesus, preceded by Lent (or Great Lent), a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance. In the United Kingdom, both Good Friday and Easter Monday are bank holidays.
The railway through the site was opened on 1884 when the London Tilbury and Southend Railway was extended eastwards from Southend to Shoeburyness. Increasing traffic levels saw the need for an intermediate block signal box called Southend East to be provided in order that more trains could run and this was provided in 1896 on the down side east of Southend station. As central Southend developed and the resort expanded it became clear that better goods facilities would be required and a new goods yard was provided on the down side just to the east of the signal box in 1907. Southend was a popular seaside resort for Londoners and additional trains were run in the summer and bank holidays.
It is the second-oldest electric tramway in the United Kingdom, the first being Volk's Electric Railway in Brighton, which opened two years earlier and similarly runs on a reserved track along the seafront. These are also the two surviving first-generation town tramways in the UK, though the majority of services on the line have since 2012 been operated by a fleet of modern Bombardier Flexity 2 trams. A 'heritage service' using the traditional trams operates on Bank Holidays, select weekdays and weekends from January to December, as well as during the Blackpool Illuminations. Excluding museums, it is one of only a few tramways in the world to still use double-deck trams, others including the Hong Kong Tramways and the Alexandria Tram in Egypt.
Banking reform was perhaps the single most urgent task facing the newly inaugurated administration. Thousands of banks had failed or were on the verge of failing, and panicked depositors sought to remove their savings from banks for fear that they would lose their deposits after a bank failure. In the months after Roosevelt's election, several governors declared bank holidays, temporarily closing banks so that their deposits could not be withdrawn. Transport for West Midlands, as part of their options, allow residents in the West Midlands (County), as defined by Dudley, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Sandwell, Birmingham, Solihull and Coventry Council areas, to use local rail services (within the West Midlands) using their National Concessionary Passes for free after 09.30 on weekdays and all day weekends/Bank Holidays. No separate ticket is needed. Leicester City Council offer something similar, passes are also valid for free train travel at all times on train journeys between Leicester and stations in Leicestershire, and between Leicester and Derby, Nottingham, Grantham, Peterborough, Kettering and Nuneaton.
The Purbeck Mineral and Mining Museum exists to preserve and interpret the historic extractive industries in ball clay mining in the Isle of Purbeck. The museum is located adjacent to Norden station on the Swanage Railway and is open from the end of March to the end of September on weekends, some weekdays and Bank Holidays. A redundant mine has been relocated to Norden with a railway laid around the site, a new engine shed and the restoration of wagons that worked on the lines around Norden. The main future aim of the museum is to construct a new building at Norden to house Secundus, a 2 foot 8 inch steam loco, wagons and other artefacts not on display at present.
Originally part of a larger range of buildings with a courtyard in the centre, the building was subsequently used as a workhouse, hospital and school before being used for storing corn from 1829 until its conversion to a museum. The museum itself has exhibition galleries, café and a local history library, along with a Conference room which can be hired. Between Fakenham and Norwich city centre, the Yellow Line operates every hour during daytimes from Monday to Saturday (with additional buses during the morning and evening peaks), reducing to every two hours on Sundays and bank holidays.
