Released in November 1986, Famous Blue Raincoat is a tribute to Leonard Cohen, with whom Warnes had toured as a backup singer in the 1970s. The album's songs span much of Cohen's career, from his 1969 album Songs from a Room to his 1984 album Various Positions (on which Warnes sang), and even two songs ("First We Take Manhattan" and "Ain't No Cure for Love") from Cohen's then-unreleased album I'm Your Man. The idea for the album originated when Cohen assisted Warnes with the lyrics of "Song of Bernadette" while on tour in 1979. Warnes had suggested the album at Arista Records and later MCA Records with no luck.

Once again running from the law, the songwriter, with the help of a savvy backup singer, records his stolen song himself, and his version becomes an even bigger hit.
Penultimately, Clarence Clemons entered with a single rose between his teeth. Springsteen appeared last, dressed in trousers, a jacket and white shirt that departed from his past denim-and-bandanas look, matched the Annie Leibovitz-photographed look from the Tunnel album cover, and emphasized the greater formality of what was about to come.Marsh, Bruce Springsteen On Tour, p. 178. Once present, the band's traditional positions on stage were flipped: now Clemons was on the right, Bittan on the left, and so on; Weinberg moved from the center to the side, and backup singer Scialfa from the back riser to the front where Clemons had been.

However, the end of communism did not lead to a breakthrough for Silly. Although Danz had petitioned the East German government for change during 1989, and illegally read out petitions during the band's concerts, interest in East German bands plummeted after November 9, 1989, when East Germans were able to cross into West Germany and easily get their hands on western rock music. In December 1999, LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson tried to split with their manager, Mathew Knowles, claiming that he was keeping too much of the group's profits and that he favored Beyoncé Knowles and Kelly Rowland. A person auditioning for a role as a rhythm section member in some styles of music may be expected to be able to demonstrate the ability to perform as a backup singer. A performer auditioning for a solo or "lead" instrument role will typically perform prepared solos that showcase a range of skills, including the ability to perform a melody with sensitivity and expression; the ability to play virtuosic passages; and, in some styles (e.g., fusion jazz or blues), the ability to improvise a melody over a chord progression. In some popular genres, there is relatively less emphasis on "stage presence" and movement onstage, such as classic jazz or traditional 1950s-style country music.

Afterward, Sheila worked briefly as a backup singer for The Three Degrees and had two solo single releases in the early 1970s. A CD retrospective was released in late 2010 of all their MGM tracks including the 27 songs produced by Randazzo for the two albums plus another three originally released on a single.
A single, the co-written "We're Stranger's Again," did not crack the country Top 40. Haggard contributed four songs to the set, including two written with Williams. Highlights include the Freddy Powers song "It's Cold in California" and "Don't Ever Let Love Sleep," as well as the title track, but on a couple of songs, "Sally Let Your Bangs Hang Down" and "I'll Never Be Free", Williams contributions are reduced significantly, reinforcing the stifling image of her as merely Haggard's backup singer. In the late nineties, Williams initially agreed—and then declined—to be interviewed by Tom Carter for Haggard's second autobiography My House of Memories, which would be published in 1999.

" A reviewer considered that Prill set a new record for "the most abysmal entertainment event to ever take place in the Tampa area", and described her "unique way of handling a melody - a cross between the dulcet sound of setting one's hair on fire and sticking one's hand into a garbage disposal." At the finale of the show, Prill had honey poured all over her, in what seemed to be a literal interpretation of the lyrics to what she believed would be her breakthrough song, "Oh, You Sexpot Honey." Prill wanted to do the finale nude, but the performing arts center required her to wear a body stocking. Brinson M. For those who attended any of the concerts which were recorded to be potentially used as this live album, the band had pieces of paper at their merchandise booth where one could sign up to be registered as a "backup singer." While the final album used cuts from a variety of shows, all the people who filled out their names were mentioned in a large fold-out booklet that went with the album, listed under the title "backup singers.
There are many reasons that established bands and groups use offstage musicians and singers for concerts and concert tours. When heavy metal band Kiss hired an offstage keyboardist, it was to fill in the band's sound during the live concerts with backing chords and deep bass notes. However, one of the band members felt that only guitarists should be seen on stage, due to the group's reputation as a guitar-based heavy metal band. In other cases, a group has been a trio or a quartet for decades, and the decision is made that having a touring keyboardist, rhythm guitarist or backup singer appear onstage could lead to speculation that the band may be adding a new member; to avoid rumours, the extra touring musician or singer is instructed to play or sing offstage.
As with other Field Music works, Commontime features unique song structures, unconventional instrumentation, and unusual time signatures that occasionally shift mid-song. It also includes interweaving vocals and sophisticated harmonies, with more instances of the Brewis brothers singing together than past Field Music albums, as well as prominent use of strings and brass instruments. The album features a wider array of supporting musicians than on the band's previous works, including the band's original keyboardist Andrew Moore, Peter's wife Jennie Brewis on vocals, and backup singer Liz Corney from the band Cornshed Sisters. Commontime was the first album released by Field Music since David and Peter Brewis became fathers, and several of its songs are about parenthood and family, as well as the shift in responsibility and priorities imposed by children.
While they never intended to leave the group, when the video for "Say My Name", the third single from The Writing's on the Wall, surfaced in February 2000, Roberson and Luckett found out that two new members were joining Knowles and Rowland. Prior to the video premiere, Knowles announced on TRL that original members Luckett and Roberson had left the group. They were replaced by Michelle Williams, a former backup singer to Monica, and Farrah Franklin, an aspiring singer- actress. Shortly after her stint with Monica, Williams was introduced to Destiny's Child by choreographer Braden Larson aka "Peanut Orlando", and was flown to Houston where she stayed with the Knowles family. In March 2000, Roberson and Luckett filed a lawsuit against Mathew Knowles and their former bandmates for breach of partnership and fiduciary duties.
Since 2004, Roggen has been co-singer and one of the driving forces of the improvisational vocal ensemble Trondheim Voices, for whom she made the compositions. In 2009, Roggen and pianist Helge Lien formed the Norwegian-language duo Live/Lien that performs original music written to texts by Norwegian poets, cover songs and jazz tunes. In addition to her own bands and groups Roggen have sung with, among other Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Trondheimsolistene, Bugge Wesseltoft, Tom Steinar Lund & Trio de Janeiro, deLillos and Leieboerne, and she has since 1996 been a backup singer in the group Young Neils. In 2008 and 2009 she participated in four tribute concerts For Radka together with Arild Andersen, Jon Eberson and Jon Christensen, including in the Norwegian National Opera.
Written by the band and Martin Page and produced by Peter Wolf, the song reached the top 20 in the UK, Canada and the United States. Cox and Drummie appeared on Jim'll Fix It: Strikes Again in 2007, to re-create a popular 'fix-it' from 1986; in the original show, a fifteen-year-old girl had sung "We Close Our Eyes" with Go West as a backup singer. In November 2015, a compilation album called 80's Re:Covered featured two Go West covers of The Killers' "Human", including a remix, while a recording of a 2003 concert recorded at the Robin 2 in Bilston was released as Live Robin 2 - 2003 CD/DVD in 2016. The concert was previously released as the live DVD Kings Of Wishful Thinking - Live in 2004.
Linda Ellen November (born October 16, 1944) is an American singer who has sung tens of thousands of commercial jingles. She was the voice of the singing cat in the Meow Mix commercials, sang the jingle "Galaxy Glue" in the 1981 film The Incredible Shrinking Woman, the "Coke and a Smile" jingle in the classic Mean Joe Greene Super Bowl commercial, and has won many Clio Awards for her work on television and radio. Her voice can also be heard on many pop songs, as she was a regular backup singer for artists such as Frankie Valli, Burt Bacharach, Engelbert Humperdinck, and Neil Diamond. In the 1970s, she was one of the main singers in the disco group Wing and a Prayer Fife and Drum Corps, which charted with the Top 40 hit "Baby Face" in 1976.
In the span of two years, Haggard switched record labels, divorced Bonnie Owens, married backup singer Leona Williams, and moved to Nashville to record with Jimmy Bowen. In the CMT episode of Inside Fame dedicated to Haggard, Owens speculates that Haggard preferred climbing the ladder of success more than being at the top "'cause he did seem like he did everything he could to fall down again so he could climb back up." I'm Always On A Mountain When I Fall was released in June 1978 and performed a career worst chart wise (Capitol's 1977 collection, A Working Man Can't Get Nowhere Today, had only reached number 28 but had been released after Haggard had left the label), but the album did produce two hits: both the title track and "It's Been A Great Afternoon" reached number 2.
Throne to the Wolves is the fourth studio album by the post-hardcore band From First to Last. This was the only album by From First to Last to be released on the record label Rise Records and is the first and only album the band made without guitarist and backup singer Travis Richter (who left the band in 2009, returning in 2013 as part of their reunion). It is also the band's only release with guitarist Blake Steiner and the band's last release before their hiatus in 2010, until the band's reunion in 2013 whereupon they announced the recording of a new album. No song of the album has become a single, but "Going Lohan", "Cashing Out" and "I'll Inoculate the World with the Virus of My Disillusionment" were released in 2009, before album release, via MySpace for free listening.
Additionally, Field Music released an album of covers in 2012 called Field Music Play..., and worked with the band Slug on their 2015 album Ripe. David said of the hiatus: "As much fun as we might have had on our own or collaborating, we missed just spending time in the studio, the two of us, trying things out together." Commontime featured a wider array of supporting musicians than past Field Music albums, including the band's original keyboardist Andrew Moore, Peter's wife Jennie Brewis on vocals, and backup singer Liz Corney, from the band Cornshed Sisters. The album title Commontime refers to the common time signature referred to by musicians as "common time", and was intended as a joke by Field Music in reference to their reputation for using various types of time signatures in their songs.
The story involves many interweaving threads, relating to the power vacuum in the Ninja Mafia, Sam's pursuit by high-ranking "Blankface" Ninjas named Mr. Blank and Mr. Black, A love triangle between Sam, Noosehead's lead singer Sidney, and a backup singer named Nicole, and the apparent murder (but actual kidnapping) of Sidney. The current "era" of Sam and Fuzzy, which has been ongoing since 2009, comprises five volumes (so far): Sam and Fuzzy Fix Your Problem, Sam and Fuzzy are Very Famous, Sam and Fuzzy Under the Influence, Sam and Fuzzy Ruined Everything and Sam and Fuzzy Race to the Bottom. In the aftermath of the Noosehead series, Sam finds himself in charge of the Ninja Mafia, and attempts to use its resources to do good. Meanwhile, Fuzzy's origins are explored, as a mysterious figure from his past, the thief Hazel Kim, returns.
Managed by her father Mathew, Knowles first ventured into the music business in 2001 as the lead singer, backed by Destiny's Child, on the title theme song for the animated television series The Proud Family. She also was a featured performer on "Hey Goldmember" for the soundtrack to the 2002 film Austin Powers in Goldmember, as well as a backup singer on the track "Little Drummer Boy" on Destiny's Child's 2001 holiday album 8 Days of Christmas. In 2002, she was featured on Lil Romeo's second studio album Game Time, singing portions of Luther Vandross-penned "So Amazing" on the single "True Love", and on Kelly Rowland's debut solo album Simply Deep, for which she also wrote the title track, "Beyond Imagination" and "Obsession". In 2001 she appeared as Lil' Bow Wow's date in the music video for his single "Puppy Love".
Bette Midler included the song—with the original title restored, "Do You Want to Dance"—on her 1972 debut album The Divine Miss M. In contrast to the Bobby Freeman, Cliff Richard, and Beach Boys versions, which are uptempo rock and roll songs, Midler slowed the tempo of the song down to a sultry-sounding ballad. Midler's version was her first single release, reaching #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in early 1973 and the top 10 of the Go-Set National Charts in Australia during April 1973. In 1985, Ula Hedwig, a Bette Midler-soundalike and former backup singer, sang the song emulating Bette Midler's version for a Mercury Sable television commercial. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals held that using this sound-alike version in a TV commercial violated Midler's right of publicity.
In 2002 she appeared on the short-lived sitcom That '80s Show as Candy, an employee of a punk nightclub called Chaos. In April 2008, Tiffany starred in a national commercial campaign for AT&T; titled "Paradise by the GoPhone Light" for AT&T;'s GoPhone, which featured Meat Loaf. The ad, which parodies his "Paradise by the Dashboard Light", has been released in two versions, an extended music video version and a short commercial edit. Also in April 2008, Tiffany made a cameo appearance on the situation comedy How I Met Your Mother in the episode "Sandcastles in the Sand", playing herself as a backup singer in the 1980s-inspired music video by a fictional teen Canadian pop-star named Robin Sparkles who was inspired by real-life singers like Tiffany making a career out of performing in malls.
The series creator and executive producer later said that "a lot of our characters may not be in every episode this year". On July 30, 2014, it was announced that Tony Award winner Laura Benanti was cast in the recurring role of country star Sadie Stone who is Rayna's friend. On August 1, 2014, it was announced that the first episode of the season will be aired live, and will consist of musical performances broadcast directly from the Bluebird Café. This will be the first time in TV history that a scripted drama has attempted this musical feat. On August 11, 2014, it was announced that actress-singer Brette Taylor joined the cast in a major recurring role as Pam, Luke’s sultry, extroverted new backup singer, and Alexa PenaVega also was cast for a multi-episode arc as Kiley, Gunnar’s first love and who is now a single mother.
39 It was announced in November 1980 that Pistol Productions, owned by Taupin and Michael Lippman, would produce a feature film entitled Working Girl based on the title cut of Manchester's current album with the singer in a starring role.Billboard vol 92 #46 (15 November 1980) p.9 However Manchester's acting career would prove to be occasional with her only starring roles onstage, her onscreen feature film credit being a small role in For the Boys (1991) as a backup singer to the lead character played by Bette Midler (Manchester had begun her performing career as a member of Midler's Harlettes backing group). Despite the promo emphasis on the album's title cut, the choice for lead single fell to "If This Is Love" an easy listening ballad which charted on Billboards A/C chart (#19) but failed to reach the Hot 100 stalling at #102.
The song today is a staple of classic rock radio stations. It has long been speculated to be about singer/songwriter Laura Nyro or pop singer Linda Ronstadt, but more likely was inspired by sometime-Browne backup singer Valerie Carter. Fan website editor Russ Paris stated on his site that he believes that "most fans seem to consider Carter the inspiration for the song" and that: "There have been a number of occasions where Jackson has hinted that the answer is Valerie Carter. For example, during a concert, Jackson once referred to the person in the song by saying that he knew exactly where she was at that moment, and Valerie Carter was onstage singing backup for him at the time." After announcing Carter's death during a concert on March 4, 2017, at Castle Theater at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, Kahului, Maui, Hawaii, Browne played the song in tribute to her.
Hugh John McDonald (born December 28, 1951) is an American musician who is best known for his session work and for being the current bassist and backup singer of American rock band Bon Jovi, which he joined as an unofficial member in November 1994, before becoming an official member in 2016. Before joining Bon Jovi, he was the bass guitarist for the David Bromberg Band, touring extensively worldwide and playing on many Bromberg albums. He has played with many other artists, both live and in the studio, and has recorded with Willie Nelson, Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, Steve Goodman, Ringo Starr, Lita Ford, Michael Bolton, Cher, Alice Cooper, Ricky Martin, Gavin Whittaker, Michael Bublé, Bret Michaels, others and did a few dates during Shania Twain's the Woman in Me TV tour. He has worked with Bon Jovi in the studio since its inception and has been their bass guitarist since original bass guitarist Alec John Such's departure after Cross Road which was released in 1994, but was still regarded as an 'unofficial' member of Bon Jovi.
