The O series was built for the first electrified railway in Sweden, Malmbanan. ASEA started testing out technology with a test unit in 1908, and by 1914 the first Oa locomotive was delivered, along with the passenger hauling Pa. At first it was the northern part of Malmbanan, from Kiruna to Narvik that was electrified. The steam locomotives had been hauling 28 wagons at 10 km/h, but the new agreement signed in 1913 with LKAB meant that SJ had to haul 40 wagons at 30 km/h to transport enough ore. The solution lay in a joint production between Siemens of Germany and ASEA.
HŽ 1161 (Drawing by Vice Huljev) These two locomotives had different liveries. One had the red livery, reassembling the original "ASEA" colouring, and the other one had grey livery with blue stripes. The grey with blue livery was later chosen as Croatian Railways standard company livery.

In its press release on 10 March 2014, the Italian Competition Authority sanctioned 3 companies "for unfair business practices". One of them was ASEA Italy which was fined €150,000. According to the Antitrust case, "consumers are proposed to purchase products through mechanisms aimed in reality at recruiting other sellers who are asked for an initial contribution or a subscription to a programme of personal purchases ... It is a distributive mechanism considered incorrect by the Consumer Code for which the consumer cannot make a contribution in exchange for the opportunity to receive compensation that is derived primarily from the introduction of other consumers into the scheme rather than from the sale or consumption of products." It alleged that the position of Asea Italy is further aggravated by the fact that the company has attributed to their products curative properties that are not adequately substantiated and certified.

This led to the creation of the newly positioned, market leader in its segment, ASEA Brown Boveri, today known as ABB Group. In 1987, he took over two-thirds of the capital of Landis + Gyr from the family shareholders, as they could provide no successor for leadership. In doing so, Schmidheiny was aware that major changes were necessary, as the company was not doing well. Schmidheiny restructured the company.
Horváth received a BS degree in Electrical Engineering in 1963 from Malmö Technical Institute in Malmö, Sweden, after which he began working as a researcher at ASEA (now ABB), a Swiss-Swedish multinational corporation headquartered in Zürich, Switzerland. He also continued his postgraduate studies at University of Umeå in Sweden, receiving an MBA in 1967, a PhD in Management in 1972, and a PhD in Policy in 1976.
Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget (General Swedish Electrical Limited Company, ASEA) was founded in 1883 by Ludvig Fredholm in Västerås, Sweden as manufacturer of electrical light and generators. Brown, Boveri & Cie (BBC) was formed in 1891 in Zurich, Switzerland by Charles Eugene Lancelot Brown and Walter Boveri as a Swiss group of electrical engineering companies producing AC and DC motors, generators, steam turbines and transformers. ABB around the world.

It is situated on a hillside, north of the river Alfeios. iN 2011 Athinaio had a population of 82 for the village and 95 for the community, which includes the village Marmaria. Athinaio is 2 km southwest of Asea, 10 km east of Megalopoli and 16 km southwest of Tripoli.
Much of the site at Crewe was cleared in a major redevelopment in the mid 1980s. Crewe Works became a part of British Rail Engineering Limited when the former BR Workshops were set up as a separate business in 1969 and was privatised in 1989. This company was soon sold to ASEA Brown-Boveri, which merged with Daimler Benz in 1996 to form Adtranz. Adtranz was itself taken over by Bombardier in 2001.
The Addes Pavilion at the La Rural Fairground Exhibition in 1886 also showcased Sandvik steel, paper samples and Eskilstuna knives, and marked the kick-off for Swedish exports to Argentina. Sweden's industrial giants - Asea (ABB), Ericsson, AGA etc. - were in many cases initially represented by individuals, young entrepreneurs who settled down and set up companies in Buenos Aires, Rosario, Santa Fe and Córdoba. In 1900 10% of Argentina's engineers were from Sweden.
Dm and Dm3 is a series of locomotives used by Swedish State Railways () and later Malmtafik i Kiruna (MTAS) for pulling iron ore trains on the Iron Ore Line in Sweden and Ofoten Line in Norway. A total of 39 double-locomotives (Dm) were delivered between 1954 and 1971, built by ASEA. A further 19 center locomotives (Dm3) were later delivered. Norwegian State Railways also operated 12 similar locomotives, designated NSB El 12.
Murray 2 Power Station is located approximately south of Khancoban along the Alpine Way. Lamm was born in Gothenburg on May 22, 1904 to Fredrik Hjalmar Lamm and Aino Maria Lovisa Wilhelmina Wijkander. He obtained his master's degree at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm in 1927. After a short time in compulsory military service he joined ASEA, the Swedish electrical conglomerate, initially working in their training program. In 1929 he was made manager of the project to develop a high-voltage mercury arc valve.
This was a Chubb machine Asea Metior's Bankomat was the first ATM installed in Spain on January 9, 1969, in downtown Madrid by Banesto. This device dispensed 1,000 peseta bills (1 to 5 max). Each user had to introduce a security personal key using a combination of the ten numeric buttons. In March of the same year an ad with the instructions to use the Bancomat was published in the same newspaper.
From the headpond two penstocks transport the water down to a powerhouse containing two Escher Wyss vertical Francis turbines which are each directly coupled to an ASEA 11 kV 12.5 MW synchronous generator. The station produces on average 127 GWh per annum. The output from the generating units is discharged back to the river just below the falls. The generator size was based on the desire to meet the power board's load factor of 65%.
Mg is an electric locomotive used by Swedish State Railways () for hauling freight trains. It was built in 17 copies by ASEA and was in service until 1980. The Mg-series was built for the electrification of Norra Stambanan in the 1940s. It was steeper and more curved than the main lines in Southern Sweden, and single-track sections meant that long freight trains had to be used to make best use of line capacity.
Employing the men he considered most likely to oppose him (probably in an attempt to get them killed), he captured Heraea and Asea. He also brought in food for the citizens of Orchomenus—which the Achaeans were besieging—before camping outside Mantinea. This campaign exhausted his opponents, who asked to remain in Arcadia so they could rest. Cleomenes then advanced upon Sparta with his mercenaries and sent some loyal followers to slay the ephors.
The EMD AEM-7 is a twin-cab four-axle B-B electric locomotive built by Electro-Motive Division (EMD) and ASEA between 1978 and 1988. The locomotive is a derivative of the Swedish SJ Rc4 designed for passenger service in the United States. The primary customer was Amtrak, which bought 54 for use on the Northeast Corridor and Keystone Corridor. Two commuter operators, MARC and SEPTA, also purchased locomotives, for a total of 65.
The SL79 is an articulated tram built exclusively for the Oslo Tramway in two series with different specifications. The trams were designed by Duewag, who also built 10 units in Düsseldorf, Germany. Fifteen additional units plus the fifteen trams in the second series were built Strømmen outside Oslo. The motors for the first series was delivered by Duewag, while the second series was built by Asea Brown Boveri at their Norwegian subsidiary NEBB.
Shortly after, Curt Mileikowsky came in from ASEA. Mileikowsky knew nothing about cars and Rolf left to work at Volvo after 25 years at SAAB. At Volvo, Rolf saw what was to be the replacement of the Volvo 140, a huge car powered by a cast V8 engine. Rolf quickly formed a group to work on the new 200-series, Jan Willsgård designed a new front and the V8 was changed to an inline 4.
Competition for the contract was so fierce that it involved last-minute discounts, offers of free parts and allegations of sabotage. Metro-Cammell, Kawasaki and ASEA were shortlisted for the final round. Metro-Cammell based its design on the Hong Kong MTR M-Train EMU and proposed to use the GEC propulsion system had they won the contract. Metro- Cammell also delivered a concept mock-up and was originally the favourite to win the contract.
The maximum grade is 2.8% and the minimum curve radius is 400m. The catenary voltage is 25 kV with booster transformer. Three substations exist: in Tabriz, Marand and Jolfa with 4 or 3 single phase transformers from Alstom each having 15 MW of capacity supplying the power. The 8 locomotives used on this line with Bo-Bo configuration have been built by ASEA from Sweden based on RC4 type from SJ Rc family.
After leaving ASEA to pursue a career in academia, Horváth worked as a sessional lecturer at University of Umeå, teaching business administration students. He received his professorship at Umeå in 1972 along with his first Doctorate in Business Administration. In 1976 his academic career at York University started when he joined the Faculty of Administrative Studies as a visiting professor. One year later, he began to work as an associate professor at the same school.

The maximum transmission capacity of this pole is 312 megawatts and the transmission voltage is 260 kV. The stations Vancouver Island Terminal and Arnott Substation were designed and delivered by Swedish company ASEA (later ABB). The Swedish team of some 10 people were headed for the first phase by Ivan Hedlund and for the second phase by Gunnar Ahgren. In 1977 the HVDC Vancouver Island link was supplemented by installing a second pole.
The HVDC inter-island link was designed and built between 1961 and 1965 for the New Zealand Electricity Department. The major equipment suppliers were ASEA and British Insulated Callender's Cables. The original Cook Strait cables were installed in 1964, from the cable laying ship Photinia. When it was completed, the New Zealand HVDC link was the world's longest HVDC transmission scheme, with the highest power rating, and the largest undersea power cables.
Nicolin became vice CEO and technical manager there in 1953. Nicolin was CEO of STAL from 1955 to 1959 and of Turbin AB de Laval Ljungström from 1959 to 1961. In 1961, the Wallenberg family appointed Nicolin as CEO of ASEA, the crown jewel in the Swedish engineering industry. At the same time, the Wallenberg's lent him to clean up the loss- making airline Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) as its CEO from 1961 to 1962.
The Variotram was first developed by ABB Asea Brown Boveri at Henschel and a prototype was launched in 1993 for the Chemnitz tramway in Germany, operated by Chemnitzer Verkehrs- Aktiengesellschaft (CVAG). The serial delivery, with minor modifications, was made between 1998 and 2001—bringing the total number of units for Chemnitz to thirty. Of these, twenty-four were operated by CVAG and six by City-Bahn Chemnitz. In 1995, ABB's train division merged to become Adtranz.
Magazines could not print in four colours and keep them in register (alignment) as this depended entirely on manual braking by machine operators. Quality was poor and paper wastage high. Crosfield's former ASEA manager and friend, Niels Haglov, asked him if this could be resolved. Crosfield worked out a photo-electric control system to do it automatically on web-fed presses, thereby improving the quality of colour printing and reducing paper waste from 25% to 4 or 5%.
The SJ Class Rm is an electric locomotive operated by Swedish State Railways () and later Green Cargo. The six locomotives are variants of the Rc locomotive and built by ASEA in 1977. The difference is smaller wheels giving higher pulling force, but lower maximum speed. They were used in triple-unit configuration on Malmbanan as supplements to Dm3-units, but later moved to other parts of the Swedish rail network after the transport needs on Malmbanan were reduced.
Eriksson continued superconductivity research in Tampere, with an aim of utilizing superconductivity in energy technology. In the late 1980s, Eriksson established a development programme related to wind generators, which lead to the construction of a prototype generator based on permanent magnets. Wind power research has later yielded several doctoral dissertations at TUT. Between the years 1985–86, Eriksson worked as visiting professor at KTH in Stockholm, Sweden, and launched a hybrid car project in cooperation with ASEA (later ABB).
The largest industries are ABB Asea Brown Boveri (engineering firm), Norske Skog Union (a paper mill which was closed down in the spring of 2006), and EFD Induction (induction heating and induction welding). Other important places of work are the Telemark Hospital and the County Governor of Telemark. Agder Court of Appeal is located in Skien. Because the E18 highway lies outside of the metropolitan area of Grenland, Skien has lost many important companies to the cities in Vestfold.
Ancient Asea occupied a hilltop site and is believed to have been settled by the late Early Helladic period. Evidence suggests that this was destroyed by fire and that the site was reoccupied during the Middle Helladic (MH). Remains consist of much Black Minyan pottery of various types and a number of graves. The lack of evidence later than the late MH period could result from abandonment of the site at that time or just from natural erosion.
Lamm was appointed by ASEA in 1961 to work with General Electric on the Pacific DC Intertie project, which combined AC and HVDC transmission systems to move electrical energy from the hydroelectric generators of the Pacific Northwest to consumers in southern California. By the end of 1964 Lamm had moved to southern California. From 1967 to 1988 he served as an IEEE director at large. He died on June 1, 1989, aged 85, in Burlingame, California.
ASEA generators inside the Pointe du Bois generating station Pointe du Bois is a small community located northeast of Winnipeg, Manitoba, in an unincorporated section of Census Division No. 1. Pointe du Bois has a Manitoba Hydro generating station (at ). The area provides great fishing for pickerel, Northern pike and smallmouth bass. In April 2013 its owner, Manitoba Hydro announced that it will close the community by 2015 and level it to the ground at a later date.
The Siemens locomotives were designated Oa while the ASEA locomotives were designated Ob. The trains had 1200 kW motors. These stayed in service on the northern section until 1923 when the southern section to Luleå also was electrified, at which time they were moved to the southern section. A new series of Oe and Of locomotives were delivered. In the 1950s when larger trains were put into service, some of the Ofs were rebuilt to triple units, designated Of3.
Aubrey's squadron is successful in defending the convoy. The captain of the Pomone is haunted by the faces of the galley slaves who died when his ship attacked theirs; Aubrey reports he died cleaning his guns, and a new captain is assigned to Pomone. The convoy proceeds toward the Adriatic, stopping in Mahón. Asea, they encounter Captain Christy-Palliere, of the Royalist Caroline and an old acquaintance, who informs Aubrey about the French situation in the Adriatic before parting.

Eberhard "Ebbo" von Koerber (11 June 1938 – 3 August 2017) was a German manager. As a member of the Board of Management of BMW, he was responsible for sales and marketing from 1984 to 1986. Between 1988 and 1998, he was responsible for the activities of Asea Brown Boveri in Europe, the Middle East and Africa as Vice President of the Group Executive in Zurich. From 2007 to 2012, he was co-president of the Club of Rome.
This because a third and final expansion was anticipated for this low pressure boiler room. Boilers 7 and 9, both Babcock & Wilcox, were the first to be installed in this new space in 1924 and 1925 respectively. The third, boiler 11 – a Humboldt – was installed in 1928; since it used pulverised coal, it had its own coal mill. The machinery room didn’t undergo any change in size but inside, an 8MW generating set – number 4, a Stal-Asea – was installed in 1925.
ASEA Brown Boveri (ABB) was contracted to design the high-pressure turbine, intermediate- pressure/reheat turbine and generator. The HP/IP generator produces 900 MW and the Westinghouse LP generator produces 497 MW. The plant's feedwater pump is powered by a turbine, rather than electrical pumps like in many other plants. The feedwater turbine was designed by ABB and generates . The boiler, designed by Babcock & Wilcox, is a supercritical steam generator with a maximum pressure of about and temperature of about .
In July 1984, a joint venture of Clyde Engineering and Walkers Limited was awarded a contract to build 70 3500/3600 class electric locomotives with ASEA supplying the electrical equipment. These were ordered to operate coal trains on the Blackwater and Goonyella railway lines that were in the process of being electrified. The contract was later extended to 80. The bodies being built and assembled at Walkers's Maryborough factory with Clyde Engineering responsible for some of the electrical equipment and commissioning the locomotives.
Returning to San Francisco for further repairs and upgrades, she went asea towards the combat areas again on 9 March 1945. She arrived in the dangerous combat waters off Okinawa on 26 April, and on 4 May, she became the target of a determined Japanese suicide boat, which successfully rammed Carina. This ramming produced a violent explosion on her port side, knocked out one of her boilers, and flooded one of her holds. Six crewmen of Carinas were injured by the explosion.
After the success of the earlier Class 1042, and the success of the ASEA-made Class 1043 the Austrian Railways decided to acquire locally-made thyristor locomotives. The first 2 prototypes were made in 1976, both featuring different bridging structures: 1044.01 featured an 8-bridge structure and 1044.02 featured a 4-bridge structure. Series production started in 1977 with 1044.03, that used the bridging structure from the second prototype. Despite being the most modern locomotive of the ÖBB, it wasn't the most reliable.
X1 was a series of two-car electric multiple units operated by Greater Stockholm Transport (SL) on the Stockholm commuter rail. The X1 was operated in sets of up to five units, making ten-car trains, each unit consisting of one motor car and one unpowered car. 104 units were built by ASEA in 1967–75 and were replaced by the new X60. The X1 also served as the foundation for the later X10–X14 series trains, built in the 1980s and 1990s.
ASEA is based on technology developed and patented by Medical Discoveries, Inc, a publicly traded company (MLSC). MDI-P was a clear, colorless liquid generated by electrolysis of a sterile saline. It contained highly reactive chlorine and oxygen species, including HOCl, OCl−, Cl−, Cl2, and O3. It was tested for its microbicidal properties and was found effective against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Legionella pneumophila, and Candida albicans and is considered to be a very fast-acting, broad- spectrum microbicidal solution.
The 25 kV AC Class 11E electric locomotive was designed for the South African Railways (SAR) by General Motors (GM) while its thyristor traction technology was provided by Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget (ASEA) of Sweden. It was built in South Africa by General Motors South Africa (GMSA), whose corporate name was changed to Delta Motor Corporation two-thirds through the locomotive building process. Altogether forty-five locomotives were delivered between 1985 and 1987, numbered in the range from 11-001 to 11-045.
In the 1970s, Sweden began to see North Korea as a lucrative market. Swedish companies like Volvo, ASEA, Kockums, Atlas Copco, and Alfa Laval wanted to export their products to the country and held an industrial exhibition in Pyongyang. During that decade, North Korea imported various items, including about 1,000 Volvo automobiles that were never paid for, prompting Soviet diplomats to call it "largest car theft in the human history". These Volvos were a common sighting in Pyongyang until the 2010s.
He finished his secondary education in 1916 and took an engineering education in the Swedish company ASEA as well as at ETH Zurich in 1923. In 1927 he travelled to the United States to work with railroad electrification, going on to Mexico in 1929 to work as a telephone engineer for Ericsson there. Once there, he became immensely interested in the ancient culture and archaeological artefacts to be found there. He took a university degree in Mesoamerican archaeology in 1933.
Sunil Benimadhu is the Chief Executive of the Stock Exchange of Mauritius (SEM). He has spearheaded the project to enable the SEM join the World Federation of Exchanges, a key standard-setter in the stock exchange industry. Benimadhu was elected President of the African Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA) on the August 30, 2010. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the South Asian Federation of Exchanges (SAFE), and the Chairman of the Committee of SADC Stock Exchanges (CoSSE).
The initial order was for three Ua-locomotives to be built in 1926 with delivery the following year. The motors were built by ASEA while the mechanical components were built by Nydqvist och Holm (NOHAB). The locomotives worked well, but had problems with the sight from the cab in one direction, so further models were built with a center cab. The Ub series was built by both NOHAB and ASJ Falun. The first delivery was ordered in 1929, and from 1930 to 1950, 90 units were delivered.
In 1973 the company was acquired by Electrolux and Electrolux- Wascator was formed. The company provides laundry equipment for applications including homes, apartment houses, hotels, health care institutions, industrial laundry operations and coin-operated launderettes. In the 1990s, Wascator sold rebranded Asko ASEA front loading washing machines and driers under their name. Asko built Wascators have a yellow/black color scheme and a drain valve instead of a drain pump, in comparison to domestic Askos who have a pump and are colored in white or stainless.
October 1994, cited 31 March 2011. He has recently joined a band called A Storm of Light with Josh Graham (Neurosis, ex Red Sparowes, Battle of Mice, Blood and Time) on guitar and vocals, Domenic Seita (ex Tombs and Asea) on bass, and Pete Angevine (Satanized) on additional drums and percussion. They released their debut album in June 2008. Not many know that he made a guest appearance on 'MTV Downtown Julie Brown' playing drums for Londonbeat on the song "I've Been Thinking About You".
However, due to pressure from the Swedish government, Göteborgs spårvägar were forced to place an order with the Swedish ASEA instead. In Helsinki a further developed version of the Nr I, the Nr II class, was delivered by Valmet for HKL between 1983 and 1987. The Nr II class trams have an identical external appearance and very similar interior layout to the Nr I class. From November 1993 onwards, starting with tram number 45, all Nr I units were modernised by HKL into Nr I+ class.
KONE opened a purpose- built elevator factory in 1966 in Hyvinkää, Finland. The following year KONE was listed on the Helsinki Exchanges and started its international expansion through the acquisition of Sweden's Asea-Graham and its Norwegian and Danish affiliates. Numerous acquisitions followed during the 1970s and 1980s with only the most significant being listed here. The acquisitions of companies larger and older than KONE itself has been seen to have brought KONE respectability and lifted the company to a position of market prominence.
In December 1914 the tramway was opened on the two branches built by ASEA, one to Munkkiniemi and one to Haaga. There were two rides an hour and with 217 inhabitants in Munkkiniemi the traffic wasn't very lively, but during the summer season summer house owners and Sunday strollers made the cars sometimes crowded. Munkkiniemi and Haaga tramways were sold to the city in 1926. Many suburban communities had been founded in Helsinge municipality outside Helsinki during the beginning of the 20th century, e.g.

After this Schwindt returned to Finland through Sortavala and joined the White Guard. ASEA paid the saved amount to Hietalahti Shipyard and Engineering Works, but the sum saved to Branobel, over 1.1 million rubles, was lost due to the revolution. The collected money enabled paying the salaries of the white-collar personnel and a dividend to the owners. During the war, two icebreakers, Silachya and Stadt Reval had been docked by unwilling support of a yard supervisor the Red Guards had found and captured.
SICS is owned jointly, 60% by the Swedish government, and 40% by Swedish industry. The government owners are the Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE), Swedish ICT, and the Defence Materiel Administration (FMV). The industry owners are a consortium of Ericsson, Asea Brown Boveri (ABB), Saab Group, Green Cargo, Bombardier Transportation, and TeliaSonera. SICS research is funded by the owners, by national funding sources, often Vinnova (the Swedish Government Agency for Innovation Systems) and the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF), and by industrial collaboration partners.
The stronger long-term financial resources and strong domestic market enjoyed by Japanese robotics companies resulted in a greater worldwide market share for these companies, and Japanese robots came to dominate the international market. The few non-Japanese companies that have managed to survive in the market include Adept Technology, Stäubli-Unimation, the Swedish-Swiss company ABB (ASEA Brown-Boveri), the Austrian manufacturer igm Robotersysteme AG and the German company KUKA Robotics. This includes the assembly line robots used by the robot-based automative production plants.
He then attended a violinmaking school in Mittenwald, graduating four years later. In 1960 he immigrated to the United States,Prier sailed to the US on SS Hanseatic, arriving after 5 days asea at Pier 42 in New York City on 10 June 1960. (from the 40th anniversary interview on KBYU-FM, aired 24 September 2012) eventually settling in Salt Lake City, Utah. His first employment was as an instrument repair technician with the Pearce Music Company, where he met his future wife, Kay.
Stadler FLIRT RABe 524 EMU about to leave Satigny for Cornavin Initially, service was operated by five specially built two coach articulated railcars of class Bem550. These were built by Vevey Technologies (formerly Ateliers de Constructions Mécaniques de Vevey (ACMV)) with electrical equipment by Asea Brown Boveri in 1994. They ran under 1.5 kV DC wires, but were equipped with a diesel engine to enable them to reach the workshops. When the service frequency was expanded, some trains composed of RIO carriages hauled by BB25500 series locos.
Ronald Henry Bowden (born 20 July 1942) is an Australian politician. He was a Liberal member of the Victorian Legislative Council from 1992 until 2006, representing South Eastern Province. He was born in Sydney, and studied at PMG Engineering College and Sydney Technical College, before spending time in the United States studying at the General Electric Executive Staff College. Bowden worked with General Electric from 1965 to 1984, serving in several marketing, sales and management positions, and then as a state manager for ASEA Australia from 1984 to 1986.
After Cambridge, Crosfield joined the British Thomson-Houston Company (BTH) at Rugby as a student apprentice, where he worked in departments testing electric motors, turbines and generators, and in the drafting, design and estimating departments. Adjoining the turbine department, where the monotony of the production line exasperated him, was Frank Whittle's laboratory. Crosfield sneaked in to see the first prototype of a jet engine. Frustrated at being stuck for six months in the drafting department, Crosfield left BTH in February 1938 to continue his apprenticeship at ASEA, based in their headquarters in Västeräs, Sweden.
The summer of 1939 found him in Stockholm at one of ASEA's companies making electric lifts. He was on a painting holiday in the Skärgäden when he heard that the Luftwaffe had bombed Warsaw. After a false start he reached Newcastle by boat from Bergen and, as he had sailed in the Baltic, he volunteered for the Navy. He had to wait for his papers and ASEA gave him a job to install a newspaper drive at Manchester for Allied Newspapers, his first work on a printing press.
After the war, Crosfield writes, "We worked on a number of research projects at ASEA, some of which seemed very good to me, but they were not appreciated by management and very little was going into production. I was earning a good salary, but I felt that if I stayed there my life would be wasted. So I decided to start up on my own account." In 1947, Crosfield set up a laboratory in the attic of his house in Hampstead Garden Suburb, London to develop two new projects.
Crosfield was a keen sailor who bought his first boat in 1938, "an ancient sailing boat for about ten pounds", shared with a Dutch apprentice like himself at ASEA. They sailed her on Lake Mälaren. He bought another boat after the war and he chose a 25-foot catamaran, Orlando, because a catamaran's speed, unlike a monohull sailing vessel, is not limited by its overall length. For four years he sailed around the Solent and Isle of Wight, with his family and any friend who might be aboard as crew.
The bodies were built and assembled at Walkers's Maryborough factory with Clyde Engineering responsible for some of the electrical equipment and commissioning the locomotives.3500/3600/3551 Class Railpage The first locomotive, 3501 DF Lane, was delivered on 29 May 1986.
Murray 1 Power Station is located south-east of Khancoban along the Alpine Way. The conventional gravity-fed hydroelectric power station has ten vertical UK-manufactured Francis, Boving Engineering turbines, each fitted with ASEA-manufactured generators, with a combined generating capacity of of electricity. The power station was completed in 1967, and has rated head. Fed by natural inflow, supplemented by the pumped flows of the Snowy-Geehi Haupt tunnel from Island Bend Pondage, it receives water from the Geehi Reservoir on the Geehi River and discharges into the Murray 2 Pondage.
Skabo built the chassis for the NSB El 7 Skabo has built the chassis the NSB El 6 and NSB El 7 electric locomotives delivered to Rjukanbanen, for locomotives no. 5 and 6 on Thamshavnbanen, and for the multiple units type 62, type 65, type 66, type 67, type 68 and type 88. The electrical components for these were often built by Norsk Elektrisk & Brown Boveri or foreign companies like AEG or ASEA. Many of the wooden passenger cars delivered to both Norges Statsbaner and others are built by Skabo.
In 1967, Krishnamurthy joined Malnad College of Engineering as a lecturer. He was subsequently promoted to an Assistant Professor in 1972, and to Professor in 1979. During 1981-83 for 15 months, he was at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada as a Research Fellow, as well as a visiting professor during 1983 for about 11 months for continuing his research activities. He was with Asea Brown Boveri and the Department of Electronics for Industry and Traction in Baden, Switzerland during 1988-89, while continuing his research activities on Electric Traction.
During his career Lamm obtained 150 patents and wrote about 80 technical papers. He also wrote extensively on social issues in articles published in Swedish newspapers and magazines, often critical of the Swedish government. Lamm was described as a staunch anti- Communist who admired some of the positive features of the United States economy. During the Second World War, while required to travel to Nazi Germany to carry out ASEA business, Lamm was criticized by his supervisors for his anti-Nazi attitude, such as refusing to give the Nazi Party salute at patent hearings.
Kone and Schindler introduced their first escalator models several decades after the Otis Elevator Co., but grew to dominate the field over time. Today, they, Mitsubishi, and ThyssenKrupp are Otis' primary rivals. Kone expanded internationally by acquisition in the 1970s, buying out Swedish elevator manufacturer Asea-Graham, and purchasing other minor French, German and Austrian elevator makers before assuming control of Westinghouse's European elevator business. As the last of the "big four" manufacturers to emerge onto the global market, Kone first acquired Montgomery Elevator company, then took control of Germany's Orenstein & Koppel Rolltreppen.
It was the largest merger at that time. He held the position of CEO of ASEA 1980–87, was CEO of ABB from 1988 to 1996. He was Chairman of Sandvik 1983–2002, Chairman of Skanska 1992–1997, Chairman of Investor AB 1997–2002, Chairman of AstraZeneca 1999–2004, Chairman of ABB 1996–2002, Member of the Board of DuPont, USA 1991–1998 and Member of the Board of General Motors, USA 1996-2009. He was also a regular Bilderberg Group attendee 1992–2001 and belonged to the group's Steering Committee.
During his eight years as CEO of ASEA followed by the nine years as CEO of ABB, the company achieved an increase of stock value of 87 times or 30% average per year over the 17 years. Net profit increased 60 times and sales 30 times. Based upon these extraordinary results Barnevik received a one-off payment of 148 million Swiss francs when he retired as CEO in 1996. 2002, six years later under a second succeeding CEO, ABB stock market value plummeted from 54.50 francs in 2000 to just under 15 francs.
Bob Brown's own "World Music" programs from the 1960s onwards were built on the ideal of bi-musicality, which was an innovative approach to music education at the time. It proposed that students, after acquiring competence in the music of their native culture, study with master musicians from another culture, and thereby acquire competence in the musical performance and theory of that culture too. The result would be a person with musical competence in two cultures: bi-musicality. Brown was one of the organizers of the American Society for Eastern Arts (ASEA).
TCDD E52500 is a series of electric locomotives used by the Turkish State Railways, comprising 22 class 441-9 locomotives leased from Željeznice Federacije Bosne i Hercegovine in Bosnia-Herzegovina. They are used throughout the electrified parts of the Turkish rail network. The locomotives have a power output of 3,860 kW and are capable of 120, 140 or 160 km/h speed depending on the version. The locomotives were originally built from 1967 onwards for Yugoslav Railways by ASEA of Sweden and Končar in Croatia, then part of Yugoslavia.
Templestowe substation, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Built by ASEA in 1966, the unit is hydrogen cooled and capable of three phase power at 125 MVA. In electrical engineering, a synchronous condenser (sometimes called a synchronous capacitor or synchronous compensator) is a DC-excited synchronous motor, whose shaft is not connected to anything but spins freely.B. M. Weedy, Electric Power Systems Second Edition, John Wiley and Sons, London, 1972, page 149 Its purpose is not to convert electric power to mechanical power or vice versa, but to adjust conditions on the electric power transmission grid.
BBC Brown Boveri was established in 1891. The company was one of only a few multinational corporations to operate subsidiaries that were larger than the parent company. Because of the limitations of the Swiss domestic market, Brown Boveri established subsidiaries throughout Europe relatively early in its history, and at times had difficulty maintaining managerial control over some of its larger operating units. The merger with ASEA, a company which was praised for its strong management, was expected to help Brown Boveri reorganize and reassert control over its vast international network.
Port of Odense Odense is Funen's most important industrial and commercial centre, and the city's central location in Denmark makes it one of the national convention and congress centres. Enterprises include the Albani Brewery, ABB (Asea Brown Boveri), Kansas Workwear (clothing), Plus Pack (canning and containers) as well as manufacturers in the electrical sector such as Riegens / SG Lighting. In recent years there has been a general trend from manufacturing into the service sector. By 2002, 51% of the workforce was employed by the service sector while only 13% were working in industry.

US President Dwight D. Eisenhower Following the 1956 decision regarding Sweden's roadmap towards nuclear power, the civilian nuclear program began to outpace the military nuclear program. This was in spite of the fact that the “Swedish line” was adopted partially to maintain Sweden's Freedom of action with respect to nuclear weapons development. The two programs diverged for multiple reasons. Although AB Atomenergi was part of the nuclear weapons program, its primary goal was to develop nuclear reactors suitable for power production, in the process staying ahead of energy suppliers such as Vattenfall and Asea.
The company had receivables worth of 3,000,000 marks from the Russian Navy. As it was impossible to get the payment from the local military council, Schwindt travelled to Petrograd. With the help of Admiral Maximov he succeeded in obtaining the whole payment in rubles, but managed to change just one third of it into Finnish marks, which was then smuggled to Helsinki into a safe place. Schwindt had to leave the rest of the money in Petrograd, where he made deposit agreements with the local branches of Branobel and ASEA.
Inniscarra hydro-electric dam, River Lee, Co. Cork The Shannon Scheme was the start of the ESB's heavy reliance on German and Swedish electro-technology. Siemens, AEG and ASEA (Now ABB) equipment was used throughout the Irish generation and distribution system. The Irish system standardised on the 220 volt 50 Hz (now 230 volt) single phase and 380 volt (now 400 volt) three-phase supply systems which had been developed by Siemens and AEG in Germany. Residential installations followed a mixture of British (BS) and German (VDE) & (DIN) standards.
This series is originally based on a locomotive type built the Swedish company ASEA, later made with licence by the Electroputere Craiova works for the Romanian Railways starting in 1965, called the EA series, with a similar design made for the Norwegian Railways, the El 15. The 103 electric locomotives have been produced by Electroputere from Craiova in two subseries for Yugoslav Railway. First subseries, JŽ 461-0 consisted from 45 locomotives build from 1971 to 1973. Second subseries, JŽ 461-1 was built from 1978 until 1980 and it consisted from 58 locomotives.
The HEPP of the Atatürk Dam is the biggest of a series of 19 power plants of the GAP project. It consists of eight Francis turbine and generator groups of 300 MW each, supplied by Sulzer Escher Wyss and ABB Asea Brown Boveri respectively. The up to steel pressure pipes (penstocks) with a total weight of 26.600 tons were supplied and installed by the German NOELL company (today DSD NOELL). The power plant's first two power units came on line in 1992 and it became fully operational in December 1993.
The institute has performed fieldwork at a large number of sites in Greece. Currently the Institute conducts excavations at the Sanctuary of Poseidon at Kalaureia (Poros) in the Saronic Gulf, various forms of work at the ancient city of Hermione at the tip of the Argolid Peninsula and explorations at Vlochos in (Thessaly). Macra Come, Fthiotis, examined by the Institute since 2010.Former archaeological projects conducted by the Swedish Institute include excavations at Aphidna (Attica), Asine (Argolis), Agios Elias (Arcadia), Berbati (Argolis), Chania Kastelli (Crete), Dendra (Argolis), Malthi (Messenia), Midea (Argolis), Paradeisos (Western Thrace), and surveys at Asea (Arcadia), and Makrakomi (Phthiotis).
The inclusion of foreign manufacturers was in part due to the limited domestic experience with trainsets capable of such high top speeds. A total of three companies, ASEA, Brush Traction and GEC, submitted tenders for the design and construction of the Class 91 locomotive. On 14 February 1985, the BR board approved the substitution of the Class 91 for Class 89 for the ECML programme. The tendering process was relatively complex, but a decisive move appeared to have been GEC's offer of a sub-contracting arrangement to BREL for the construction of the locomotive's mechanical elements.
The destruction even crossed into Europe in what is now Bulgaria. The migration brought an end to Bulgaria's Early Bronze Age, with archaeological evidence showing that the Yunacite, Salcutza, and Esero centers had a sudden mass desertion during this time. From the Dardanelles, the refugee invaders moved into mainland Greece, and the Peloponnese saw burnt and abandoned cities on par with the much later Dorian invasion which destroyed the Mycenaean civilization. At this time, 1900 BC, destruction layers can be found at southern Greek sites like Orchomenos, , Hagios Kosmas, Raphina, Apesokari, Korakou, Zygouries, Tiryns, Asine, Malthi and Asea.
In its current form, most industrial robots are powered mechanical arms with the ability to perform anthropomorphic actions. Advancements in miniaturization of computers, mathematical control theory as well as improved sensory technologies have had great impact on the feedback control systems that drive robotics. The first industrial robot performed spot welding and die castings in a General Motors factory in New Jersey, USA in 1962. Soon, robotic arms were exploding within the large-scale manufacturing industry and several new companies came into existence including Kuka in 1973, Nachi in 1969, Fanuc in 1974, Yaskawa in 1977, ASEA in 1977, and several others.
In the 1960s the power station's existing Turell voltage regulator was replaced by an ASEA solid state voltage regular which meant that the station's voltage did not now require constant attention, allowing the number of operators at the station to reduced from four (on a 24-hour shift) to two people. By the late 1960s, Piriaka had been reduced to a single 300 kW generating unit. Mandeno Chitty & Bell were hired to design and oversee increasing the station's output. As a result, a modified Kaplan turbine driving a 700 kW generator was installed in February 1971 in a separate building.
At a later time, however, Asea belonged to Megalopolis, as we see from the descriptions of Strabo and Pausanias. The city was in ruins in the time of Pausanias (2nd century), who mentions its acropolis. In its territory, and at the distance of 5 stadia from the city, on the road to Pallantium, were the sources of the Alpheius, and near them those of the Eurotas. The two rivers united their streams, and, after flowing in one channel for 20 stadia, disappeared beneath the earth; the Alpheius rising again at Pagae, and the Eurotas at Belemina in Laconia.
The Electroputere LE 5100, otherwise known as CFR Class 40/41/42 is a family of electric locomotives (separated by 3 classes) built for the Romanian Railways (CFR) for use on the Romanian electrified network. Over 1000 Class 40s were constructed by Electroputere (EP) under ASEA license in EPs Craiova Works from 1967 to 1991. Entering service in 1965, the Class 40 also operated on private railroads after the repeal of CFRs monopoly on rail transport. The vast majority of all the engines are still in service, as of 2020, having become an icon for the Romanian Railways.

The idea of creating long- distance transmission lines in order to take advantage of renewable sources distantly located is not new. In the US in the 1950s, a proposal was made to ship hydroelectric power from dams being constructed in the Pacific Northwest to consumers in Southern California, but it was opposed and scrapped. In 1961, U.S. president John F. Kennedy authorized a large public works project using new high-voltage, direct current technology from Sweden. The project was undertaken as a close collaboration between General Electric of the U.S. and ASEA of Sweden, and the system was commissioned in 1970.
Edström was born in the tiny village of Morlanda, on the island of Orust, Bohuslän. He studied at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, where he graduated in 1891, and continued studying at ETH Zurich in Switzerland, and the United States. In his youth, he was a top sprinter, capable of finishing the 100 m in 11 seconds. He was the director of the Gothenburg trams from 1900 to 1903, where he was in charge of electrifying them, and of the electrotechnical company ASEA from 1903 to 1933, and president of ASEA's board from 1934 until 1939.
The Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon factory in Zürich (1930) Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon was a Swiss engineering company based in the Zürich district of Oerlikon known for the early development of electric locomotives. It was founded in 1876 by the industrialist Peter Emil Huber-Werdmüller, and occupied a large site immediately to the west of Oerlikon railway station. In 1906 the armaments business was demerged to form ', which evolved into the technology company OC Oerlikon and the armaments company Rheinmetall Air Defence (formerly Oerlikon Contraves). In 1967 Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon was taken over by Brown, Boveri & Cie, which in 1988 merged with ASEA to form ABB Group.
"HVDC TransmissionF" The nominal justification for the project was that, during wartime, a buried cable would be less conspicuous as a bombing target. The equipment was moved to the Soviet Union and was put into service there as the Moscow–Kashira HVDC system.IEEE – IEEE History Center The Moscow–Kashira system and the 1954 connection by Uno Lamm's group at ASEA between the mainland of Sweden and the island of Gotland marked the beginning of the modern era of HVDC transmission. Mercury arc valves require an external circuit to force the current to zero and thus turn off the valve.
In addition, he was asked to serve the U.S. State Department as a foreign policy consultant from 1990 to 1993. He also sat on European engineering giant Asea Brown Boveri's board from 1990 to 2001, a company that sold two light-water nuclear reactors to the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization for installation in North Korea, as part of the 1994 agreed framework reached under President Bill Clinton. Rumsfeld's office said that he did not "recall it being brought before the board at any time" though Fortune magazine reported that "board members were informed about this project".
In September 1937 the board gave approval for its consulting engineer Lloyd Mandeno to purchase a second machine. In 1938 the powerhouse was extended which allowed an additional 240 kW machine (G2) with a Boving & Co horizontal Francis turbine driving a ASEA generator to be installed which increased the total installed capacity to 624 kW. This generating unit was supplied via a dual end concrete diameter, long penstock with a capacity of up to 7.1 cumecs to G2. Eels were initially a problem at the power station, which was solved in 1939 by suspending an electrified rod in the surge chamber.
The ÖBB Class 1043 is a class of thyristor-controlled universal electric locomotives operated initially by the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). The ten members of the class were derived from the Class Rc operated by the Swedish State Railways (SJ). The locomotives were the first in Austria to use thyristors. After successful test runs on the Semmering and Tauern mountain railway lines, the first four members of the class built by ASEA entered service with the ÖBB in 1971 and in the beginning of 1972, and the remaining six followed after a short delay while other Rc2 were manufacured in 1973.
A Swedish X 2000 tilting train During the 1990s there were several investigations into the use of tilting trains on existing tracks. In January 1990 it was reported that the NSW government was considering upgrading the existing state railway lines to utilise tilting train technology under development by Swedish-Swiss engineering giant ASEA Brown Boveri. This was at the same time as the VFT was under investigation, and there was concern that two fast railways could end up being built, which would then both be financially unviable. The tilt train concept could potentially reach speeds of up to while using the existing tracks.
Driver's desk of a 1141 Starting with 1972, between Yugoslavia and Romania a convention was concluded for reciprocal delivery for locomotives. It also involved the Romanian companies Electroputere Craiova and UCM Reşiţa. Thus the Romanian party delivered to Yugoslavia a number of 103 Co’Co locomotives of the 461 JŽ series and sub- assemblies for 130 Bo’Bo locomotives of the 441 JŽ series, delivered to Romania and registered with CFR under the number 040-EC (Class 43) between 1973 and 1984. The Yugoslavian locomotives derived directly from the already renowned prototype ASEA RB1 improved in the mechanical construction under the RC1 series pattern.
By 1922 SJ had placed an order on the new Of-locomotives, yet NSB chose to base the El 3 on the older Oe. Build by ASEA, they were equipped with quill drive and regenerative braking; the latter only caused problems though, excessively increasing the current that caused damage. They only served on the Norwegian lines until 1949, after which they were where put into through trains to Kiruna. In 1950 LKAB decided to increase the mine output, requiring trains now to haul . In 1953-54 the locomotives were rebuilt to three triple-engine sets and supplemented with eight El 12.
So, finally, the design team chose to place the engines back-to-back in the centre of the train. The two engines would be identical and both would carry a pantograph to pick up power, but in normal operation only the rear of the two engines would raise its pantograph, and the other engine would be fed power through a coupling along the roof. Power was converted to direct current by ASEA thyristors, supplying four DC traction motors mounted in each power car. The traction motors were moved from the bogies to inside the car body, thereby reducing unsprung weight.
There is no tax on dividends or capital gains. Major developments took place through the establishment of a new electronic clearing and settlement system and the introduction of daily trading (at the end of 1997). Future planned developments include the introduction of a new electronic trading system and the listing of new financial products on the stock market. The SEM was recently promoted from the status of corresponding exchange to that of affiliated securities markets within the Fedération Internationale des Bourses de Valeurs (FIBV) and it is also a founding member of the African Stock Exchange Association (ASEA).
Much of the poor fuel economy of the gas turbine in the traction role was due to the hot exhaust, which essentially represented lost energy. In order to reclaim some of this energy, it is possible to use the hot exhaust to pre-heat the air from the compressor before it flows into the combustion chamber, using a heat exchanger. Although not common, these recuperators are used in a number of applications today. W. Hryniszak of Asea Brown Boveri in Heidelberg designed a recuperator that was added to the otherwise unmodified GT 102 design to produce the GT 103.
But they were soon discovered, and chose to move to Skjenalddalen. On 31 October 1943 the group planned to blow up one British Westinghouse locomotive and one rail car at Løkken and one ASEA at Orkanger and one rail car and two Westinghouse locomotives at Thamshavn. But not all the locomotives were located where the saboteurs thought they were and only four were blown up. This was not good enough for Deinboll, and it was decided that a new sabotage was to be performed at Klinghåmmår'n where they were to stop the train, chase the staff and blow up the train and track.
Single Line Diagram of Inga-Shaba HVDC The Inga–Shaba EHVDC Intertie (officially: The Inga–Shaba Extra High Voltage D.C. Intertie; nickname: Inga–Shaba and also referred to as Inga–Kolwezi) is a -long high-voltage direct current overhead electric power transmission line in the Democratic Republic of Congo, linking the Inga hydroelectric complex at the mouth of the Congo River to mineral fields in Shaba (Katanga).Compendium of HVDC schemes, CIGRÉ Technical Brochure No. 003, 1987, pp136-141. It was primarily constructed by Morrison-Knudsen International, an American engineering company, with the converter equipment supplied by ASEA. Construction was completed in 1982 and it cost US$900 million.
John Fothergill Crosfield CBE DSc MA (22 October 1915 in Hampstead, London - 25 March 2012 in Hampstead, London), inventor and entrepreneur, was a pioneer in the application of electronics to all aspects of colour printing and the inventor of the acoustic and subsonic mines during the Second World War. Graduating with a degree in mechanical sciences from Cambridge University in 1936, Crosfield was working on electrical lifts for ASEA in Sweden when war was declared. He joined the Admiralty, where with a team of mathematicians and engineers he was charged with developing sonar, to detect midget submarines, and new types of mines. In 1947, Crosfield founded J F Crosfield Ltd.
The first generation of electric trams in Turku were built by the Swedish ASEA. The new traffic form gained high popularity, and passenger numbers grew steadily until the beginning of World War I. During World War I the Grand Duke of Finland (aka Tsar Nicholas II of Russia) ordered all German- owned possessions within Finland to be confiscated. Therefore, between 18 August 1914 and 15 June 1918 the Turku tramway was under control of the Turku and Pori County under the name Turun Sähkölaitos. The war resulted in unprecedented growth in passenger numbers, to the extent that there was not enough capacity to carry all potential passengers.
3rd- generation S-train, 2006 The third generation (DSB class FC-MC-MC-FC) were built by the Swedish industrial firm ASEA from 1985 to 1986. Despite possessing a much improved level of passenger comfort as compared to the previous two generations of rolling stock, it suffered a much higher rate of failure as compared to its predecessors. Twelve trains in 4-car formation (48 cars) were built (a further 32 4-car trains were not realised), and it first entered service in 1986 on the Vestbane and the Nordbane (B service) between Holte and Høje Taastrup. They were the first S-train rolling stock to feature electronic chopper control.
During the band's break between 2000 and 2003, Spencer moved to California where he formed a new band with Curran called The Cutthroats 9 and released an album on Man's Ruin Records. Curran formed J.J. Paradise Players Club and Signorelli opened a tattoo shop in Middle Village Queens. Signorelli later formed A Storm of Light with Josh Graham (Neurosis, ex-Red Sparowes, Battle of Mice, Blood and Time) on guitar and vocals, Domenic Seita (ex-Tombs and Asea) on bass guitar, and Pete Angevine (Satanized) on additional drums and percussion. A Storm of Light spent most of the spring touring with Neurosis and they released their first album in 2008.
The control room of the Ågesta Nuclear Plant The nuclear power station Ågesta (ASEA) was the first Swedish commercial nuclear power plant. Also known as R3, it was the third nuclear reactor built in Sweden. Construction started in 1957 and ended in 1962, operations began in 1964 and continued until 1974. The station was built underground, used heavy water moderation and was fueled with natural uranium. The station primarily provided district heating (initially 60 MW then increased to 80 MW) for the Stockholm suburb Farsta, as well as a small amount of electricity, 12 MW. It is widely assumed that the underground reactors had military purposes, being able to produce plutonium.
He left Glasgow to join the multi-national Swedish engineering group ASEA (now ABB) and worked with them in Denmark, Sweden and South Africa. In 1965 he came back to take an MA degree at Strathclyde in Management, then won a UK Government Fellowship to study Management on a 1-year tenure at the University of Chicago. He was then appointed to a Lectureship in Engineering Management at Strathclyde (1967–70), where he also graduated with a PhD degree, before becoming Senior Lecturer and Head of Department of Production Management at the University of Glasgow (1970–73). In 1973 he was appointed Professor of Manufacturing Organisation at Loughborough University.
Bjørnfjell on the Ofoten Line in 1970 After the electrification of Ofotbanen in 1923 NSB had been using El 3 and El 4 stock on the line. But in the 1960s these were getting worn out, and NSB decided that it needed to get new stock. NSB first acquired the El 12 stock parallel to the Swedish acquisition of the Dm3 locomotive. But unlike Statens Järnvägar, NSB chose to instead buy a newer technology locomotive from ASEA, based on the Romanian CFR 060 EA. Thus NSB managed to get the same power out of their two-engined El 15s as the Swedish got out of their three-engined Dm3s.
The workshop is still in use. After having been bought by Norsk Elektrisk & Brown Boveri, the Norwegian subsidiary of Brown, Boveri & Cie (BBC) in 1978, it was later transferred to Asea Brown Boveri in 1988 when it merged with Elektrisk Bureau to form EB Strømmens Verksted, Adtranz in 1996 when it was named Adtranz Strømmen, in 1999 sold to Daimler Chrysler changing the name to Daimler Chrysler Rail System Norway and then to Bombardier Transportation, changing the name to Bombardier Transportation Norway. The division is mainly occupied with maintenance and modernizing of rolling stock for NSB. The new Norwegian Royal Train is one of the last cars built at Strømmen.
Siemens' proposal for the former was branded Dovresprinter and was a cooperation between Kværner and NSB's workshop at Sundland in Drammen. Siemens would deliver the overall design and electrical components, Kværner would build the mechanical components and the assembly would occur in Drammen. The final offer was from Asea Brown Boveri (ABB), and SLM (which by delivery would be sold to become Adtranz) for "Lok 2000", a modification of the Swiss Re 460. Dombås on the Dovre Line Prior to the final negotiations, union representatives for the train drivers stated that Lok 2000 was their preference, and that NSB could expect a dispute if they chose a different model.
The GF6C was an electric locomotive for freight duties built by General Motors Diesel in collaboration with ASEA of Sweden. Seven of these locomotives were built in 1983 and 1984, for use on the BC Rail's electrified Tumbler Ridge subdivision. Similar to EMD's GM6C testbed locomotive, the GF6C used a frame and running gear that was identical to that of EMD's popular SD40-2 diesel- electric locomotive, but had a wide cab and carbody similar to that of GMD's SD40-2F. BC Rail chose electrification for the Tumbler Subdivision because of the long, non-ventilated tunnels, as well as steep grades and sharp curves.

The first commercial nuclear power plant Oskarshamn 1 was commissioned in 1972 and was followed by another eleven units sited at Barsebäck, Oskarshamn Ringhals and Forsmark in the time period up to 1985. The twelve commercial reactors constructed in Sweden comprise 9 BWRs (ASEA-ATOM design) and 3 PWRs (Westinghouse design). In 2004, Studsvik Nuclear (an institute established in 1958 for the Swedish nuclear program with research reactors) decided to permanently shut down the two research reactors (R2 and R2–0) at the Studsvik site. They were closed in June 2005. “The decision was taken on economical grounds, the licenses had recently been extended until 2014, subject to certain conditions.
The first HVDC Cross-Channel scheme was built by ASEA and went into service in 1961 Compendium of HVDC schemes, CIGRÉ, Compendium of all HVDC projects between converter stations at Lydd in England (next to Dungeness Nuclear Power Station) and Echinghen, near Boulogne-sur-Mer, in France. This scheme was equipped with Mercury arc valves, each having four anodes in parallel.Cory, B.J., Adamson, C., Ainsworth, J.D., Freris, L.L., Funke, B., Harris, L.A., Sykes, J.H.M., High voltage direct current converters and systems, Macdonald & Co. (publishers) Ltd, 1965, p175-218. In order to keep the disturbances of the magnetic compasses of passing ships as small as possible, a bipolar cable was used.
Mercury arc valves of ASEA design, with four anode columns in parallel, in the HVDC Inter-Island scheme in New Zealand. Mercury- arc valves are prone to an effect called arc-back (or backfire), whereby the valve conducts in the reverse direction when the voltage across it is negative. Arc-backs can be damaging or destructive to the valve, as well as creating high short-circuit currents in the external circuit, and are more prevalent at higher voltages. One example of the problems caused by backfire occurred in 1960 subsequent to the electrification of the Glasgow North Suburban Railway where steam services had to be re-introduced after several mishaps.
Pupu Hydro Powerhouse turbine room Following 7 years of negotiations from 1981 to 1987, an agreement was signed between the Tasman Electric Power Board and the Pupu Hydro Society to take on a loan and fully restore the Pupu Hydro Power Scheme as a working "museum". The water race and penstock were partly rebuilt, a motorised filter and new control gates were installed, and a spillway weir was constructed. The powerhouse was renovated and all equipment was either restored, refurbished or replaced. The 250 kVA 400 V alternator from 1929 was rewound and reinsulated by the ASEA New Zealand branch, the original supplier of the generator.
Nicolin was its chairman until the merger in 1991, the same year he became honorary chairman. After ASEA's merger with Brown, Boveri & Cie, Nicolin was chairman of the board of ABB Asea Brown Boveri from 1988 to 1991. He was also chairman of the Business and Industry Advisory Committee at OECD (BIAC) from 1984 and chairman of the board of ESAB AB, Fläkt AB and SILA. Furthermore, Nicolin was Swedish chairman of the board of SAS from 1973 to 1991, vice chairman of AB Aerotransport's working committee and of Swedish Match as well as board member of a number of Swedish and foreign companies and organisations.
While it was not the first such line in the board's area it was the first that they contracted out for construction and as such delays were incurred in obtaining some of the equipment that required. After its construction loan was secured in 1959 tenders were issued for construction and supply of equipment. Fletchers Construction won the contract to undertake the civil works with a price of £295,000. English firm Boving & Co won the contract to supply the turbines and other hydraulic machinery, Swedish firm ASEA won the contract supply the generators, while local company Turnbull & Jones were awarded the contract to supply the control panels and install the electrical equipment.
In addition to her two-term presidency at OCG, Kotsis takes an active role in the Editorial board of the OCG Book Series, in the working group Fem-IT (Association of Female University Professors in IT) and in the OCG award committee. From 2007 to 2015, she served as vice-rector for Research at JKU. Her responsibilities included the development of R&D; strategies and policies in the university, coordination and interaction with national and international governmental organizations and funding bodies, and the establishment of collaborations with other research organizations and business partners. Since 2016, Gabriele has been JKU's representative in the ASEA-UNINET academic research network, which promotes cooperation among European and south-East Asian public universities.
At the time of her disappearance, Falck, who was employed as a reporter for the Swedish public service television news programme Rapport, was investigating a major scandal comprising the Swedish company ASEA and smuggling of weapons to communist states in Eastern Europe. Another theory has been that Falck had information about the Swedish armaments company Bofors and that they sold weapons to countries with embargoes through intermediaries. On the 8th anniversary of the disappearance, Ulla Jones came in contact with someone who claimed to know a Säpo (Swedish Security Service) employee with information about the death. The man claimed that the women had been drowned prior to being put in the water, possibly using a hose.
ASEA/AEG- built tram number 4 from 1908, photographed 1952. Due to the city's population increase, the idea of building a tramway in Turku resurfaced during the first years of the 20th century. Building an electrically powered tramway for the city was first proposed in 1905, but due to the lack of local experience in constructing such a system, foreign companies were selected to construct the service. Germany-based AEG, who also owned the electricity plant in Turku, eventually reached an agreement with the city for building a tram network and operating it for forty years, the city having an option to buy the operations after ten years and thereon between five-year intervals.
The Foundation was established in June 1919 by initiative of a number of scientists, businessmen, politicians and other prominent Swedes at the time. The Foundation is under the patronage of the King of Sweden, Carl XVI Gustaf. The founders and first Board members included the Nobel laureates and Professors of Chemistry Svante Arrhenius and The Svedberg, the Swedish Arch Bishop and Professor of Theology Nathan Söderblom, the Managing Director of ASEA, J. Sigfrid Edström, the industrialist and banker Jacob Wallenberg, the chairman of the Social Democratic Party Hjalmar Branting, the author and Nobel laureate Selma Lagerlöf, and the artist Anders Zorn. The Foundation administers thirteen permanent scholarship funds of which twelve are used for the Fellowship Program.
Glete spent his entire academic career at Stockholm University, where he had taken his bachelor's degree and where he defended his doctoral thesis Kreugerkoncernen och Boliden in 1975. Having been born in Västerås, Sweden, where his father was employed by ASEA, he went on to write the history of this corporation. Glete also developed a passionate interest in maritime history, which he combined with an interest in the state-building process in the early modern period, publishing several books on this topic in English using a comparative perspective. He served as vice-chairman of Sjöhistoriska Samfundet from 1993 until his death from cancer at the age of 61 in July 2009, Stockholm, Sweden.
Later, when Strömsholm Canal was finished, it was used to ship finished products to Västerås and Stockholm for export. This restructuring process appears to have been driven by the need to secure access to hydropower and timber for the forges since both the mines and blast furnaces used up considerable amounts of resources in the production of pig iron. Over time, the mills specialised and in Ramnäs the key product became iron chains – in modern days for the off- shore industry – and in Surahammar wheel-sets for the rail road industry and electro steels, both with ASEA as a major customer. In Surahammar, Gustaf Eriksson developed the first combustion-engine automobile built in Sweden in 1897.
To provide rolling stock for the electrification of the Ferny Grove and Darra section of the Brisbane rail network, in 1976 Queensland Rail issued a tender for 13 three-carriage electric multiple units.EMU Contract Sunshine Express September 1976 p. 113 Bids were received from Clyde Engineering, Comeng, General Electric, Goninans and Walkers, with the latter awarded the contract with electrical equipment to be supplied by ASEA.Tenders Close for Electric Rail Cars Sunshine Express February 1977 p. 18Electrics for Brisbane Rails April 1977 p. 8Walkers-ASEA to build Brisbane thyristor EMUs Railway Gazette International August 1977 p. 288 The first was delivered in May 1979, entering service on 17 November 1979 with all in service by October 1980.Delivery of First Electric Train Electric Traction August 1979 p.
This scheme, equipped from the outset with thyristor valves provided by Swedish subcontractor ASEA, was designed to transmit 560 megawatts, in the first phase, at a symmetrical bipolar voltage of ±500 kilovolts. Although not the first 500 kV HVDC project in operation (the ±533 kV Cahora Bassa scheme having been completed in 1977) it was the first such scheme to use only a single twelve-pulse bridge per pole. Consequently, its thyristor valves were the highest-rated in the world (in terms of voltage) at the time and remained so until the completion, in 2007, of the ±450 kV, single-converter NorNed scheme.Skog, J.E., van Asten, H., Worzyk, T., Andersrød, T., Norned – World’s longest power cable, CIGRÉ session, Paris, 2010, paper reference B1-106.
In 1972 Rupert Hamer became Premier of Victoria, promising new trams, which had been highlighted as needed in the 1969 Melbourne Transportation Plan. Comeng, in anticipation of a tender, dispatched workers to Europe who, knowing of the fondness within the MMTB of the Swedish tram design, acquired the plans for the Gothenburg M29 tram from Hägglund & Söner. It was understood that ASEA would supply the electrical equipment, as they had been involved in the supply of equipment for the Gothenburg M28 which was almost identical to the Gothenburg M29 trams, and had recently acquired the rolling stock division of Hägglund & Söner. Tenders for 100 trams based on prototype PCC 1041's design were called for in 1972 with Comeng awarded a contract in 1973.
10 locomotives were made by ASEA after an agreement was reached in 1965. The locomotives were numbered from 060-EA-001 to 060-EA-009, and another unit, 060-EB-001 fitted with experimental electrical equipment (regenerative braking and thyristors) was delivered, though it was proven to be faulty and expensive to maintain and rarely used until 1991, when it was rebuilt into a regular 40 class unit. The 10 units were basically a SJ Rb but with heavy modifications (longer wheelbase, 6 axles), that were made until 1966. Out of all the 10 units that were delivered, only a few survive up to this day, 060-EA-001 being destroyed in an accident at Apața in 1990, whilst a number of them have been renumbered/refurbished.
Anders Björgerd (Bjoergerd) (8 November 1920 – 18 July 2017) was a Swedish businessman who was deputy CEO of Sweden's largest publicly listed utility, Sydkraft AB (now E.ON Sverige AB), between the years 1970-1987. He started his career as a trainee with Siemens AG, and later gained employment with Swedish engineering firm ASEA before embarking on his career path with Sydkraft in Malmö, Sweden. Björgerd was also the Chairman of the Board for Sydgas AB, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sydkraft and one of Scandinavia's largest suppliers of LPG. He is one of the founders and former owner of Swedpower AB, Scandinavia's largest energy consultancy firm (now operating under the name Vattenfall Power Consultant AB, a wholly owned subsidiary of Vattenfall).
In January 1990 it was reported that the NSW Government was considering upgrading the existing state railway lines to use tilting train technology under development by UK engineering giant ASEA Brown Boveri. Although at 200 km/h they would be somewhat slower than the VFT, the tilt trains would avoid the need for a completely new rail corridor. There was concern that two fast railways could end up being built, which would then both be financially unviable. The VFT joint venture argued that the proposed upgrades would cost the state $1.45 billion and provide 1,700 seats daily between Sydney and Melbourne, while the VFT would cost the state nothing (the estimated $4.5 billion cost was to be privately funded) while providing 16,000 seats.
Youth exchange program binds ASEA, Japan . Accessed February 02, 2010. The student government at PLM is the Supreme Student Council (SSC), governed by a student elected as president. Aside from the SSC, which acts as the central student government body within the PLM, there are college-based student councils as well. Traditionally, there are only 2 university-wide student political parties, namely Bukluran Party and Partidong Tugon , that annually participate in the student council elections. Tracing its roots from the former Sandigan Party, Bukluran was founded in 1995, while Tugon started in 1991 and AYOS! emerged in 2002. A longstanding goal of some members of the student government and political parties is to create a student designated seat on the Board of Regents, the university's governing body.
The power station commenced commercial generation in December 1925, with 80 customers receiving a supply in Aria and Piopio and surrounding districts by January 1926. The new power station was officially opened on 27 May 1926 by Prime Minister Gordon Coates with a single generating unit (G1) which had a Boving & Co horizontal Francis turbine driving a ASEA generator which gave an original installed capacity of 480 kW, which was generated at 6.6 kV. The generating unit was supplied with water via a concrete and steel diameter, long penstock with a capacity of up to 3.1 cumecs. By 1936 the Wairere Power Board had an annual revenue of £5,000, with the power station supplying about 350 consumers via approximately 120 miles of transmission line.
Björn Stigson Björn Stigson was until 2012 president of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), a CEO-led, global association of some 200 companies dealing exclusively with business and sustainable development. He began his career as financial analyst with the Swedish Kockums Group. From 1971-82 he worked for ESAB, an international supplier of welding equipment, in different positions, being responsible for finance, operations and marketing. In 1983 he became president and CEO of the Fläkt Group, a company listed on the Stockholm stock exchange and the world leader in environmental control technology. Following the acquisition of Fläkt by ABB Group, in 1991 he became executive vice president and a member of ABB Asea Brown Boveri’s Executive Management Group.
Merger approved Railway Gazette International December 1995 page 818 A few months after the July 1997 Asian financial crisis, ABB announced plans to accelerate its expansion in Asia. The company also acted to improve the productivity and profitability of its Western operations, taking an $850 million restructuring charge as it shifted more resources to emerging markets and scaled back some facilities in higher-cost countries. In 1998, ABB acquired Sweden-based Alfa Laval's automation unit, which at the time was one of Europe's top suppliers of process control systems and automation equipment. As a final step in the integration of the companies formerly known as ASEA and BBC, in 1999 the directors unanimously approved a plan to create a unified, single class of shares in the group.
Curran held positions as Chief Operating Officer & Chief Technical Officer of ServerVault (a federally oriented secure hosting company acquired by Carpathia Hosting), Chief Technical Officer of XO Communications, and Chief Technical Officer of BBN. Curran also worked for Combustion Engineering/Asea Brown Boveri and Control Data Corporation. Curran provided technical leadership to BBN's commercial Internet efforts, including working on the early Internet research networks (CSNET and NEARNET) and the NSFNET Network Service Center (NNSC) coordination center for the pre-commercial Internet. John Curran has served as Area Director for Operations and Network Management Area of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), as member of the IP Next Generation (IPng) area which led IPv6 development, and co-chaired the IETF Uniform Resource Name working group.
After leaving school, Kamanga first worked as a clerk at Bank of Credit and Commerce in 1985 before proceeding to university. He joined accounting firm Price Waterhouse after graduation in 1991 and briefly worked for Meridian BIAO Bank in 1994 before crossing over to auditing firm KPMG. In 1996, he joined electrical engineering firm Asea Brown Boveri and two years later, joined the newly established Zambian Energy Regulation Board (ERB) as Head of Economic Regulation. In 2001 Kamanga established ENFIN Solutions, which operates as an energy and financial advisory firm and in 2007 he founded North Western Energy, a private power utility company involved in distribution of electricity to Lumwana Mine, parts of Solwezi and Kalumbila Mine in the North- Western Province of Zambia.
The economic history of Sweden has since the Iron Age been characterized by extensive foreign trade based on a small number of export and import commodities, often derived from the widely available raw materials iron ore and wood. An industrial expansion in the latter half of the 19th century transformed the society on many levels and initiated the evolution of a broad export-oriented engineering industry with companies such as LM Ericsson, Asea, Alfa Laval, Aga, Electrolux, SKF and Volvo reaching well established positions on the global market and becoming drivers of GDP growth. In addition to engineering, the pulp and paper, steel, and chemical industries developed to reach international prominence. By the 1970s, Sweden had become one of the wealthiest nations of the world.
A lot of Jan G. Smith's original drawings for the Volvo ÖV4, the gearbox, the main chassi components and technical papers that he had collected in America in the form of a private design book, are saved in the archive of the National Museum of Science and Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. After the Volvo project he was employed by ASEA in Västerås and later worked for the same company in Stockholm. Jan was replaced in the Volvo project by engineer Henry Westerberg that stayed with Volvo as a designer until 1980 at the age of 79 when he was retired. Jan G. Smith was awarded a gold medal in 1929 by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA), together with Gustav Larson, "for their contribution to the national automobile industry in Sweden".
With construction of the Mass Rapid Transit system underway in 1983, Contract 151 called for the procurement of rolling stock—150 cars in Phase One and an option for 246 cars in Phase Two. In what Financial Times described as "a time when manufacturers were begging for orders" for the global rolling stock market, competition for the contract was intense. At least eight companies from around the world submitted bids for what they had nicknamed the "Big One". Bidders included Metro-Cammell with Singapore Automotive Engineering, Kawasaki Heavy Industries with three Japanese manufacturers, MAN AG with AEG, Siemens and Brown, Boveri & Cie, Francorail with Alsthom-Alantique, SOFRETU and Singapore Shipbuilding and Engineering, ASEA with Sembawang Shipyard, and a Bombardier Transportation-led consortium with Hawker Siddeley Canada and Brown Boveri Canada.
For many years this effect limited the practical operating voltage of mercury-arc valves to a few kilovolts. The solution was found to be to include grading electrodes between the anode and control grid, connected to an external resistor-capacitor divider circuit. Dr. Uno Lamm conducted pioneering work at ASEA in Sweden on this problem throughout the 1930s and 1940s, leading to the first truly practical mercury-arc valve for HVDC transmission, which was put into service on the 20 MW, 100 kV HVDC link from mainland Sweden to the island of Gotland in 1954. Uno Lamm’s work on high voltage mercury-arc valves led him to be known as the "Father of HVDC" power transmission and inspired the IEEE to dedicate an award named after him, for outstanding contributions in the field of HVDC.

A tender for 100 new trams was called by the MMTB in early 1977, Ansair, Comeng and Siemens tendered. Although Comeng originally planning on using ASEA control equipment, as in the Z1 and Z2-class, they opted to give the MMTB a variety of options, leading to 28 different possible configurations of control equipment, bogies, and suspension types. Comeng were ultimately selected, and between 1979 and 1983, 115 Z3-class trams were built. Although superficially similar to the preceding Z1 and Z2-class trams' externally, they had significant design differences - and were a significant improvement on the Z1 and Z2-class trams. They are fitted with AEG control equipment and Düwag bogies, have an additional door each side (for a total of three rather than two for the Z1 and Z2), drop down (as opposed to top sliding) Beclawat windows and improved headlights.
In order to manage the sharp increase in traffic on its network after the opening of the Vereina Tunnel, the Rhaetian Railway joined in 1989 with Swiss Locomotive and Machine Works and ASEA Brown Boveri, to develop a new generation of electric locomotives, the drive train of which was to be based upon AC technology with GTO Thyristors. The original plan for a six axle variant of the Ge 4/4 II, which would have had benefits on the nearly straight section of line through the tunnel, was rejected, in favour of a universally deployable locomotive with four axles, which could also be used on sections with tight radius curves. The result was the Ge 4/4 III class. On 7 December 1993, the first Ge 4/4 III machine, no 641, was officially put into service.
In 1920, soon after the city took over the tram operations, an explosion at the electric plant resulted in the death of seven people, as well as large-scale damage to the plant itself. As a result, the distribution of electricity was disturbed, and the tram network was inoperative due to lack of power for 87 days. Plans were made during the earlier half of the 1920s for expansion of the tram network, but the poor post-war financial situation meant these could not be realised.Sirkiä [2003]. p. 15. ASEA/AEG built tram 18 from 1933. The last trams of this type were retained in use until the close of the system in 1972. The first privately owned bus lines appeared in Turku in 1923. During the rest of the decade the number of bus lines grew, resulting in dropping passenger numbers for the tram system.
During the 1950s SJ saw the need for a new universal locomotive, since the D-series was aging. In 1955 the Ra-series had proved successful with bogie wheels. At the same time there was interest to make a locomotive that could be exported abroad. The result was an agreement between ASEA and SJ where six test engines were delivered. The testing of the Rb was successful, so it was sent to Romania for trials in 1965 for the Brasov-Predeal mainline (at the time it was electrified since 9 June 1963 and 3 more manufacturers tested their locomotives there the previous years), and later in Yugoslavia in 1967, and based on this exports were made to the Yugoslav Railways (JŽ class 441 and 461), Căile Ferate Române of Romania (CFR Class EA and EC) and for Norwegian Railways (NSB El 15, derived from the EA class of CFR).
In 1985, ASEA, Brush and GEC Transportation Projects tendered for the design and construction of the Class 91s. GEC subsequently won the bid and the fleet was built by sub- contractors British Rail Engineering Limited's Crewe Works between 1988 and 1991. The Class 91s began passenger service on 3 March 1989, when 91001 worked 1P26 17.36 London Kings Cross to Peterborough train. This train was formed of InterCity 125 Mark 3 coaches and a Class 43 power car, which had been converted for use as a DVT as the Mark 4 coaches were not then ready. The Class 91s then began service on King's Cross to Leeds trains on 11 March 1989, when 91008 with a rake of Intercity 125 Mark 3 coaches and power car 43068 worked the 1D32 06:50 Kings Cross to Leeds service. The set then worked 1A12, the 10:00 Leeds to London Kings Cross service.
In the 1970s NSB was faced with a challenge on the steep and wintry Bergen Line and the El 14 was not adequate for the task. The solution seemed to be thyristor locomotive that had successfully been tested by ASEA and Canadian Pacific Railway with possibilities to pull 50% heavier trains than equivalent diesel electric locomotives were capable of. This was partly due to a system of dynamic slip control, where speed of traction motors was controlled and adjusted to avoid slippage and loss of adhesion. The Swedish Rc4 locomotives were tested on the Northeast Corridor with success and NSB also chose to try the units on the Bergen Line. In 1976 NSB ordered six unites of a modified Rc4 design, with dynamic brakes, increased traction power (from 4x900 kW on Rc4 to 4x1100 kW on El16) and a pointed nose which is able to force through the occasional snowdrifts.
The Inga–Shaba HVDC represented one of the United States' most important third world commitments of the 1970s and 1980s. However, construction progress was plagued by rebel insurgency in Southern Zaire, massive logistical challenges, large cost overruns, and financing delays. By utilizing the hydroelectric potential of the Inga Dam and by constructing one switching station near Kinshasa at Selo, the Government of Zaire under Mobutu Sese Seko was theoretically able to control the flow of power to secession-prone Katanga, then Shaba, province, but never actually exercised this option. It was reported in La Libre Belgique, a Brussels newspaper, that Tractionel, a Belgian electrical contractor, had argued that more economical alternatives were available nearer Shaba, using low-head generator plants, but had been overlooked in favor of the American consortium, consisting of Morrison-Knudsen International as a prime contractor, and Swedish ASEA, Italian Sadelmi-Cogepi and Irish GE subsidiary as sub-contractors.
Though the rocks did yield substantial quantities of hot water, to reach a temperature to generate steam hot enough to drive a turbine would have required drilling a further kilometre or more into the granite, an option which was too expensive to pursue at that time. Rosemanowes Quarry and the assets of CSMA, including intellectual property, were acquired by Asea Brown Boveri in 1997. In 2004 Schlumberger acquired the intellectual property and some of the staff most closely associated with microseismic monitoring and the quarry was sold off. An industrial building for ASEA was set up in the city of Jaroslav north east of Moscow with a number of other buildings. However the Russian business came to a sudden stop in 1916 due to internal company problems just before the Russian Revolution broke out in 1917 when all subsidiaries whose main company was outside Russia were forbidden to have any activities in Russia, and all foreign property was confiscated. In 1932 when the Kreuger Crash came, most parts of the holding company went bankrupt but Kreuger & Toll Construction AB survived, but suffered from the bad reputation that the name 'Kreuger' had got. Paul then changed the company name to just Toll Construction AB and continued to work with new projects. The construction company's most famous projects, going back to early 1910, were the NK warehouse (1913–14), the Stockholm Olympic Stadium (1911–12) and the Södersjukhuset hospital (1944) in Stockholm.

The locomotive is known for its simplicity in operating - in the cab, original versions have a dashboard with a panel for gauges and switches, a throttle/dynamic brake wheel and brake levers, alongside with a knob for the horn, which has low/high and soft/hard tones and Hasler Bern speedometers (mostly replaced by Softronic IVMS speedometers). Subsequently upgraded versions changed that, with the ICOL cabs featuring a throttle/dynamic brake lever, the dashboard is higher and features an on-board computer, and 2 buttons that remove the horn's ability to use the soft/hard tonnes. Certain modernizations (such as by PROMAT but in lower numbers) maintain the "wheel" but have a renovated dashboard, somewhat similar to the CFR Class 46. Inside the machines' hall, electric current enters into the oil-cooled transformer, where it is converted from 25 kV AC to 1.5 kV, passing through silicon diode rectifiers where it is converted into DC current for the ASEA LJE 108 traction motors.
Contact between Sweden and the Indian subcontinent dates from at least the 8th century CE and the era of the Vikings. In 1954, a small bronze Buddha statuette was discovered during archaeological excavations of an 8th- century Viking ship on Helgö, Sweden; now on display at the Swedish History Museum, the statue is thought to have been made in present-day Kashmir around the 5th century CE In March 2015, PostNord Sverige released a postage stamp depicting the statue. During the mid-18th century, the newly established Swedish East India Company attempted to gain a trading foothold in India through ports in Bengal and at Surat in Gujarat; though a few of the company's ventures in India were profitable, the already long-established competition from the rival British, French and Dutch East India companies soon forced Sweden to focus on trading with China. Several Swedish firms established branches in India during the early 20th century, notably Ericsson, Swedish Match and ASEA (now part of the ABB Group).
Fitting the ASEA M28 equipment into the Z-class body, which was heavily based on the M29, posed a problem due to the extra doors, tapered ends, and second cab Comeng had added to make them able to operate in Melbourne, this necessitated lengthening the design to accommodate the equipment. Construction started at Comeng Dandenong in 1974, with Dandenong's workforce tripling to cope with the order. The first Z1-class tram was delivered in December 1974, and the last in May 1978. Major construction was carried out at Dandenong, with bogie frames fabricated at Granville, and final fit out and commissioning occurring at the MMTB's Preston Workshops. After being unveiled to the press on 30 April 1975, the first entered service on route 64 on 5 May 1975 and the second on route 72 two days later."Melbourne's new trams" Trolley Wire issue 158 June 1975 page 35 As more were delivered, the first 15 were concentrated at North Fitzroy depot to operate route 96 from 30 June 1975.
Amtrak 904 westbound at Harrison, New Jersey in June 1975 In 1968 the PRR with its 119 surviving GG1s merged with the New York Central Railroad to form Penn Central. After its creation in 1971, Amtrak purchased 30 for $50,000 each, and leased 21, of which 11 were for use on New York and Long Branch commuter trains. Amtrak renumbered the purchased GG1s #900–929 as a solid block, later renumbered with a prefix "4". The leased units with conflicting numbers were then renumbered 4930–4939, except 4935 which kept its old PRR/PC number. Amtrak attempted to replace the GG1s in 1975 with the General Electric E60, but they were not a success: a derailment during testing had to be investigated (the E60 used the same trucks as the P30CH diesel then in service with Amtrak), which delayed acceptance, and the hoped-for service speed was never achieved (timetable limit was 90 mph, then 80, then 90). It was not until Amtrak imported two lightweight European locomotives – X995, an Rc4a built by ASEA of Sweden and X996, a French design – that a replacement was found.
