Lulu is diagnosed with aplastic anemia and needs a bone marrow transplant but none of her family members are a match. Laura's son by Stavros Cassidine, Nikolas, donates his bone marrow at a hospital in Switzerland. Nikolas arrives in Port Charles with his uncle Stefan (Stephen Nichols) where they decide to stay, creating tension in the Spencer family, especially when Stefan begins to romance Bobbie. Stefan had been Laura's only friend during her captivity.

Sonny, who is now Kate's lover, sees Trevor as a major threat in light of Trevor's connections to Ric, Kate and mob boss Anthony Zacchara.

In exchange for Edward dropping the charges, Emily agrees to break up with Zander. Zander attempts to return to his roots as a drug dealer, but realizes how much he loves Emily. The two reunite, and make love for the first time on her prom night. Emily is then shocked when Skye Chandler arrives in Port Charles and reveals she is Alan's illegitimate daughter from a dalliance with Dr. Rae Cummings, making Skye the eldest Quartermaine child.

Nathan encourages Maxie to fight for Georgie, then covers for her, lying he threw her summons away by mistake. When the judge discovers Nathan lied for Maxie and she loses custody of her daughter, Nathan suspects Levi tipped off the judge, and tries to prove it. Meanwhile, Nathan is reunited with Nina, who arrives in Port Charles. Levi later frames Nathan for tipping off immigration about Levi's expired visa, leading to Maxie throwing Nathan out of the apartment.

She wanted to get rid of Nina's baby, and accidentally put her own daughter in a coma. Madeline tells Nathan that Nina has died, but later says that she only had Nina declared dead to get the inheritance that was left to Nina by Madeline's late husband. Nina first appears onscreen in May 2014, waking up from her coma. Roughly a month later, Nina arrives in Port Charles, and shocks a bewildered Silas with her presence.

In 1991, Harlan Barrett arrives in Port Charles to save the sunken vessel, the SS Tracy. Harlan notices Bill Eckert has the initiative to raise the ship with a unique invention and quickly hires Bill as the chief engineer for Barrett Industries. Harlan is quite the ladies man and brags quite often that he could have any woman he wants. Currently he sets his sights on Tracy Quartermaine who is very taken with the exuberant Harlan.

Elizabeth is introduced as the granddaughter of Steve Hardy, one of the original General Hospital core characters. She is the daughter of Jeff Webber and Carolyn (maiden name unknown), and the sister of Sarah Webber and half-sister of Steven Webber. At age fifteen, she arrives in Port Charles in August 1997 to stay with her grandmother, Audrey Hardy (Ames), the stepmother of Jeff. She follows her sister Sarah (then Sky), who had come to live with Audrey a few months prior.

There was often speculation the character would have a relation to fan favorite Brenda Barrett (Vanessa Marcil), but it is eventually stated on-screen there is no relation. Gerhardt appeared on the General Hospital spin-off General Hospital: Night Shift as Cooper in 2007. He was let go from the series in 2008 and the character was killed off. Cooper arrives in Port Charles in February 2007 as "Three," one of the seven assailants that take the Metro Court Hotel hostage.

Casey Rogers, an alien from the planet Lumina, arrives in Port Charles to be found and befriended by Robin Scorpio. He is searching for the missing part of a crystal that will send him back home. The crystal is discovered to be on Spoon Island with enemy Cesar Faison, who is using the pseudonym P.K. Sinclair. Robin convinces Frisco Jones and her mother Anna Devane that Casey is an alien and together they recover the crystal and Casey is able to return home.

Susan Moore, the flirtatious cousin of Heather Webber, arrives in Port Charles in 1978 and catches the eye of Mitch Williams much to the dismay of Tracy Quartermaine. Mitch and Susan would soon begin an affair which continues when Mitch marries Tracy in 1979. In 1980, Tracy, fed up with Susan and Mitch's rendezvous, donates two million dollars to Mitch's campaign for governor in exchange for him breaking things off with Susan. Meanwhile, Susan gets involved with mob boss Frank Smith.

In October, Téa thinks she might be pregnant with Victor's baby; a pregnancy test further confirms that Téa is indeed pregnant. On January 13, 2012, it is revealed that Téa's husband Victor Lord Jr. is alive and is secretly being held captive by Allison Perkins. In May 2012, a heavily pregnant Téa arrives in Port Charles, the setting of General Hospital, to provide legal counsel to Starr, who had held mobster Sonny Corinthos at gun point. Téa quickly discloses that she was hired by Blair.

When Julian takes a bullet meant for Duke, a distraught Victor decides to hold Duke to the deathbed promise he made to Julian, to legitimize the mob. Meanwhile, Victor's daughter, Olivia (Tonja Walker) arrives in Port Charles and immediately causes trouble when it is revealed she put the hit on Julian. In October 1988, it is revealed that Victor and Julian agreed to fake his death to throw Olivia off. When Olivia is shot and left in a coma, Anna is believed to be the prime suspect.

When One Life to Live ended January 13, 2012, John was happily reunited with Natalie, and planning on raising their son together. However, commercials aired that John would be heading to Port Charles General Hospital for a crossover event with Starr Manning, Todd Manning and Blair Manning. It was not clear how his relationship with Natalie and his son would be resolved as they were not announced to be a part of the initial crossover. Viewers soon find out when John arrives in Port Charles, he is still in a relationship with Natalie.

John McBain arrives in Port Charles after Blair calls him to inform him Todd has jumped bail to come there. John comes to the courthouse, where Todd is holding a gun on Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), threatening to kill him because he believes Sonny is responsible for the car crash that killed his granddaughter Hope and her father Cole. John arrests Todd and takes him back to Llanview to stand trial for the murder of Victor. He is released, and comes back to Port Charles when Starr is arrested for trying to kill Sonny.

This condition caused the infection he was fighting to spread, which resulted in massive organ failure. His parents had him baptized in the hospital and soon after he died surrounded by his parents. In May 2014, after nearly twenty years in a comatose state, Nina awakens and is transferred to a different facility to undergo rehabilitation and treatment. Roughly a month later, Nina arrives in Port Charles and shocks a bewildered Silas with her presence when she arrives at a birthday party for Danny, the son of Silas's new girlfriend, Samantha Morgan.

Three beggars operate in the port of Papeete on Tahiti. They are Herrick, a failed English businessman; Davis, an American sea captain disgraced by the loss of his last ship; and Huish, a dishonest Cockney of various employments. One day an off-course schooner carrying a cargo of champagne from San Francisco to Sydney arrives in port, its officers having been killed by smallpox. With no one else willing to risk infection, the U.S. consul employs Davis to take over the ship for the remainder of its voyage.

In 2012, Todd jumps bail and arrives in Port Charles upon learning that Starr has been involved in a car accident that resulted in the deaths of Cole and Hope. Todd thinks local mobster Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) is responsible for the deaths and seeks revenge. The charges against him for Victor's murder are dropped, due to a claim of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following his years in captivity, but Starr faces attempted murder charges for trying to kill Sonny. A pregnant Téa, who has been sought out by Blair to represent Starr, gets the charges dropped.

While traveling, Laura has Luke's son Lucas Lorenzo Spencer, Jr., whom they nickname Lucky (played by Jonathan Jackson). From prison, Frank Smith (then played by Mitchell Ryan) tracks them down and bombs a truck in the parking lot of the Triple L Diner in Canada where the family had been hiding, killing one of their friends. Lucky arrives in Port Charles alone and meets Luke's aunt Ruby Anderson (Norma Connolly) and is shortly joined by his parents. Frank's son Damian Smith (Leigh McCloskey) convinces Luke his family will remain unharmed if he joins Frank's protege Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) in a scheme to smuggle in illegal aliens.

Now a private investigator, Marco arrives in Port Charles in 1992, much to the intriguing delight of heiress Tracy Quartermaine Hornsby (Jane Elliot), who was in the middle of marital woes. Tracy preceded to engage in an extramarital romance while hiring Marco to investigate the mistress of her husband, Jenny Eckert (Cheryl Richardson), a distant cousin of Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary). Marco, as a side venture, becomes a boxing promoter managing high school student Jagger Cates (Antonio Sabàto, Jr.). Jagger, who was dating at the time Brenda Barrett (Vanessa Marcil), had an obvious romantic attraction to classmate Karen Wexler, much to the displeasure of Brenda.

Captain Warrington finds the Governor at the casino, where Le Grange's girlfriend, Yvonne, is an entertainer ("We're the Love of Old New Orleans"). When Warrington asks Le Grange for permission to search for the French pirate Bras Piqué, who has been robbing American ships, the Governor refuses the request and orders Captain Warrington and his men to leave New Orleans. Meanwhile, the pretty and vivacious Marietta has joined the casquette girls who have come to New Orleans, each with a dowry of 500 francs from the King, to marry the colonists. When the ship arrives in port, the casquette girls are eager to leave the ship and meet their future husbands.

A ship arrives in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Four of the alighting passengers are: Major H. O. Jones (Alec Guinness), a British businessman with a letter of invitation to do business with the government; Mr. and Mrs. Smith (Paul Ford and Lillian Gish), an elderly American couple who wish to set up a vegetarian complex for education and nutrition for the locals; and the central character, a cynical, washed-up hotel owner named Brown, portrayed by Richard Burton. Upon arrival, Major Jones presents his credentials to Captain Concasseur (Raymond St. Jacques), a law enforcement officer, who notices that the official who invited Jones has been deposed and imprisoned.

Plagued by creditors, but with no money to pay his debts, Lord Loveland (Arthur Maude) leaves England and sails to the United States hoping to find a wealthy heiress to marry. During the voyage, he makes friends with a lady playwright named Leslie Dearmer (Constance Crawley), whom he likes, but believing her not to be the wealthy heiress he seeks, he is reluctant to develop their friendship further. Leslie likes Loveland also and tries to help him after the ship arrives in port. Unfortunately, they part unexpectedly when Loveland joins a theater troupe and suddenly leaves town, hoping that he can make some quick money as the troupe tours across the country.

It is during this final battle that Sparrow's and Elizabeth's contrasting, yet also similar, underlying characters emerge: Jack shows heroism and loyalty by returning to the ship to save his crew; Elizabeth becomes more pirate-like to save herself and the others. Even Sparrow acknowledges this by calling her "pirate" in an almost admiring tone, as if praising her cleverness and heralding her passage into his realm. Norrington arrives in Port Royal and presents the heart and the Letters of Marque to Cutler Beckett in a bid to reclaim his commission. Meanwhile, Will, Elizabeth, and the grieving crew make their way upriver to Tia Dalma, the voodoo priestess who helped Sparrow find the Dead Man's Chest.

Johnny Zacchara arrives in Port Charles and meets Lulu Spencer and the two begin a flirtatious relationship. His guardian is his father's lawyer, Trevor Lansing, who covered up the fact that Johnny's father Anthony murdered his mother Maria because Anthony was jealous of the bond between mother and son. Although Lulu's friends disapprove, they continued to see each other, and Johnny proved his love for her when he protected her against his father at the Black and White Ball. After Anthony is paralyzed, Johnny takes the throne of the Zacchara empire, until Trevor calls upon Johnny's sister Claudia to town, and the siblings join forces and fight Sonny Corinthos's organization, which leads to Lulu being caught in dangerous situations.

Eider arrives in port covered with ice. On 24 March 1923, Eider arrived in Seattle to have her original gasoline engine replaced with a 140-horsepower (118-megawatt), 6-cylinder Atlas- Imperial solid-injection, reverse-gear diesel engine. Her new engine was more efficient and proved to be very reliable in the coming years, and with it Eider averaged 8.75 knots during the summer of 1923, an improvement over the 8 knots she could make with her old engine. Beginning in 1923, BOF employees embarked on Eider for several weeks each summer to inspect the salmon fisheries at various canneries and spawning streams; BOF employees who made these deployments aboard her included Dr. Charles H. Gilbert, Willis H. Rich, and Dennis Winn.
