The character gains new skill training only through spending a feat for that purpose, though these may be chosen regardless of class. In 5th Edition, the skills are more tightly tied to the ability scores, with each skill being seen as an area of specialization within the ability. One month after the murder of gay University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard, Kaufman and ten company members travelled to Laramie, Wyoming to interview people in the town torn apart by the crime. The play forged from these interviews was created collaboratively by the members of the company over a long workshop process in which the participants were encouraged to operate outside their area of specialization: actors and designers became writers and dramaturgs, directors became designers and actors, and the company uncovered a new way of creating a theatrical event, in the form of The Laramie Project.

Sadiq Jalal Al-Azm ( Ṣādiq Jalāl al-‘Aẓm; 1934 – December 11, 2016) was a Professor Emeritus of Modern European Philosophy at the University of Damascus in Syria and was, until 2007, a visiting professor in the Department of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University. His main area of specialization was the work of German philosopher Immanuel Kant, but he later placed a greater emphasis upon the Islamic world and its relationship to the West, evidenced by his contribution to the discourse of Orientalism. Al-Azm was also known as a human rights advocate and a champion of intellectual freedom and free speech.

The DMA combines advanced studies in an applied area of specialization (usually music performance, music composition, or conducting) with graduate-level academic study in subjects such as music history, music theory, or music pedagogy. The DMA degree usually takes about three to four years of full-time study to complete (in addition to the master's and bachelor's degrees), preparing students to be professional performers, conductors, and composers.

Using research methodology to solve problems is one of the most important aspects of design, it enables the designer to properly assess the clients and audience needs. Abelson was outspoken and well known for his opinions on science. In a 1964 editorial published in Science magazine, Abelson identified overspecialization in science as a form of bigotry. Jutta Maria Jokiranta (née Miettinen; born 14 April 1971 in Salla) is a Finnish theologian and, since 2018, a Professor in Hebrew Bible and cognate studies at the University of Helsinki. She is a former university lecturer of the Hebrew Bible at the University of Helsinki and an Academy Research Fellow of the Academy of Finland. Her area of specialization is Qumran studies and Second Temple Judaism. She is currently leader of the team in "Society and Religion in Late Second Temple Judaism" in the Academy of Finland Centre of Excellence in "Changes in Sacred Texts and Traditions" (2014–2019, directed by Martti Nissinen).

The core body of knowledge that defines an area of medical specialization is referred to as the core competencies for that specialty. Core competencies are developed through detailed review of the medical literature combined with review by recognized experts from established medical specialties, experts within the new area of specialization and experts from outside the medical profession. Padraic Jeremiah Kenney (born 1963) is a professor of history and International Studies at Indiana University. Previously, he was Professor of History at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He is the author of several books on East European (particularly Polish) history and politics; his area of specialization is social change and political change in the contemporary world, in particular civil resistance to authoritarian regimes and democratic revolutions. His most recent book, Dance in Chains: Political Imprisonment in the Modern World (Oxford, 2017), examines political prisoners and imprisoning regimes from the mid-19th century, in particular in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Poland, and South Africa, as well as the men detained at Guantanamo Bay.

In addition to education and experience, Board-Certified Environmental Engineers and Scientists must have passed written and oral examinations and reviews by an admission panel of the Academy. The Academy's certification program is accredited by the Council of Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards. Requirements for board certification include a baccalaureate or higher degree in engineering or science from an accredited university, not less than eight years of professional engineering or scientific experience, and an examination on the practice of environmental engineering or science in a particular area of specialization. The Iloilo Science and Technology University (also referred to as ISAT-U or ISAT) is a state research university located in La Paz, Iloilo City, Philippines. Founded in 1905 under the American colonial government of the Philippines, it is mandated and chartered as a polytechnical university by the Philippine government to provide undergraduate and graduate courses in technology education, agriculture, fishery, engineering, arts and sciences, forestry, business, health, computer, criminology, nautical and short-term vocational-technical and other continuing courses. It attained its university status in 2013 renaming it to its present name, the Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U). As a public research university, ISAT-U is also mandated to promote research, advanced studies, extension work and progressive leadership in its area of specialization.

Hierarchical law as a model for understanding the structural description of the process of understanding and applying the law was central for Kelsen and he adopted the model directly from his colleague Adolf Merkl at the University of Vienna. The main purposes of the hierarchical description of the law would be three-fold for Kelsen. First, it was essential to understanding his celebrated static theory of law as elaborated in Chapter four of his book on the Pure Theory of Law (see subsection above). Students are required to complete 240-hour Policy Internship in an agency or organization related to the student’s area of specialization and must be completed prior to the second semester of the second year. Such agencies may be in local, state, or federal government; nonprofit organizations; the private sector; or an international experience in a non-US setting to prepare for foreign service after graduation. The internship provides a perspective on how the methods and theories learned in the cases studied in the classroom may find practical expression in non-textbook and complex real-life settings. It is expected that most students will complete their Policy Internship during the summer between the first and second years, although provisions are made to allow it to overlap the academic year.

Her area of specialization is Guatemalan literature and she has published works on Cardoza y Aragón, Miguel Ángel Asturias, Rafael Arévalo Martínez Enrique Gómez Carrillo, Rafael Landívar and written an anthology in collaboration with Aida Toledo, evaluating short stories of Guatemalan women writers called Mujeres que cuentan, which was published in 2000. The GSC in Buenavista was the main college grounds of the College and referred to as GSC Salvador while the one in Jordan was referred to as GSC Mosqueda Annex; [and the one in San Lorenzo was referred to as GSC Baterna Annex—an expansion during Dr. Rogelio T. GSU has had a mandate, from its very inception, to offer undergraduate and graduate courses in technology education, agriculture, fisheries, engineering, arts and sciences, forestry, business, health, computer, criminology, nautical and short-term vocational-technical and other continuing courses that may be found to be needed and relevant.
