Frederica von Stade was "excellent throughout", and notably sang a "Non so più" very different from the exuberant performance on her bel canto recital disc,Mozart & Rossini Arias with "the voice caressing and yearning to an accompaniment of gentle murmurs and subdued ardours and excitements". Anna Tomowa-Sintow alone was something of a disappointment, sometimes lapsing into "tremulous" singing that was unexpected from an artist with such a high reputation.

He recorded an album of his early poems, The Not Forgotten Association, in 1973 before recording with members of Back to the Front, including an album, Party in The Rain, which was recorded in 1976, but not released until 1982. On the rise of punk, he left the music scene in 1977 and wrote film scripts. He then wrote a film score for a BBC TV film, with Phil Ryan, who had been in a late Piblokto! line-up. They collaborated for 12 years, and Brown formed his own label Interoceter, which issued two Pete Brown/Phil Ryan albums: Ardours of the Lost Rake and Coals to Jerusalem.

After Man's breakup, Ryan started working with Pete Brown again and also toured with Gallagher and Lyle, including a 1978 BBC "In Concert" session,Mannerisms II "Man & roots/offshoots Information Booklet" by Michael Mycock, P19 Ryan moved to Denmark in 1980, where he met and married the writer and director Bolette Bernild. In the 1980s he wrote the score for the BBC Play For To Day, Red Shift. Although now living in Denmark, Ryan continued a productive songwriting partnership with Pete Brown, producing two Ryan/Brown albums, Ardours of the Lost Rake and Coals to Jerusalem. They began touring in 1993, and a compilation of the two albums was issued on CD as The Land That Cream Forgot.
