Aylmer is a scientist and husband to Georgiana. Robert B. Heilman suggests that Aylmer has taken science as his religion and that Aylmer’s views on "the best that the Earth could offer" is "inadequate". Heilman further says that "the mistake Aylmer makes" is the "critical problem" with the story, in that he has "apotheosized science". Georgiana is the wife of Aylmer and, as Sarah Bird Wright puts it, the "doomed heroine" of the story.

As discussed above, the death of Hitomaro appears to have already taken on some legendary characteristics. In his Japanese preface to the tenth-century Kokin Wakashū, Ki no Tsurayuki referred to Hitomaro as Uta no Hijiri ("Saint of Poetry"). In the Heian period the practice of Hitomaru-eigu (人丸影供) also gained currency, showing that Hitomaro had already begun to be apotheosized. Hitomaro's divinity status continued to grow in the Kamakura and Muromachi periods.

But Polish society back in the 1940s supported mostly the difficult decision and political fight of Stanisław Mikołajczyk. Hadrian and Sabina as Mars and Venus Hadrian and Sabina as Mars and Venus is a 1.73m tall marble statue of 120-140 AD (with restorations of c. 170-175). The male figure originally represented the emperor Hadrian, but its head has later been restored to that of Lucius Verus. Shown in the guise of Mars, this makes Hadrian one of the first emperors to be portrayed as a god during his lifetime rather than be posthumously apotheosized. The female figure, in the pose of the Capuan Venus, arms him.

Caledonian Antisyzygy was first coined by G. Gregory Smith in response to the view - especially that espoused by figures such as T.S. Eliot - that there is no value in Scottish provincial literature, noting an absence of coherence and an anchor in a single language. Smith argued that such diversity or the union of opposites forms the basis of Scottish literature. While merging of opposites is not a unique cultural or racial trait, it is said that such contradiction became apotheosized among the Scots.
