Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi Home of Lobi Stars F.C. Aper Aku Stadium is a multi- use stadium in Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria. Construction of the stadium was initiated by the Second Republic governor Aper Aku. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of the Lobi Stars. Aper Aku Stadium has a capacity of 15,000 people.

The story is ostensibly about the struggle for power in Ancient Rome, but actually about the universal struggle between love and duty. Delphia, a prophetess, foretells that Diocles, a footsoldier, will become emperor after he kills a "mighty boar" and marry Delphia's niece Drusilla, who is in love with him. Diocles takes the prophecy seriously, and starts slaughtering pigs. As it turns out, a soldier called Volutius Aper (Aper=boar) has murdered the old emperor, and Diocles kills Aper in revenge.

Trosius Aper was a grammarian of ancient Rome who served as one of two Latin tutors for the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, along with Tuticius Proculus. He was from Pola (modern Pula) in Istria, and was assigned to Aurelius as a tutor around 132 or 133 AD. As a tutor, Aper would have Aurelius read classical works out loud, and memorize them, later commenting on stylistic matters, and drawing philosophical lessons from the text for his pupil. While we know Aper's colleague Tuticius Proculus was rewarded handsomely with a senatorship and consulship, little is known about the life of Aper.

There seems to have been a large family by this name at Nemausus in Gallia Narbonensis. They probably held a hereditary priesthood, as several of them bear the title of flamen or flaminica. What is incontestable is that when Numerian (who was by that time the Emperor following the death of his father) died as the Imperial comitatus returned from its victorious campaign in Persia. The traditional story is that Aper hid the body in a closed litter, told everyone that the emperor was irritated by the dust and light during the retreat, and issued orders in the emperor's name until the scent of the rotting corpse exposed his scheme. Aper was accused of his murder by the army and put on trial at Nicomedia (Izmit, Turkey). The suspicion of murder evidently arose because Aper had attempted to conceal the fact of Numerian's death, perhaps while he prepared the ground for his own accession to the Purple.

General Ibrahim Babangida appointed Lt. Colonel Fidelis Makka as Military Governor of Benue State on 21 July 1988, a post he held until 2 January 1992. He was an energetic and determined administrator committed to transparency of government. He systematically completed abandoned projects that the Aper Aku civilian administration had started. He re-designed and completed the Aper Aku Stadium, built the IBB Square, Fidelis Makka Library and Pauline Makka Women's Centre, and completed six general hospitals.

Officially National Children's Library named after Khnko Aper ( (Khnko-Apor Anvan Azgayin Mankakan Gradaran)) is a national children's library in Yerevan, Armenia. To this day, the Late Governor Aper Aku is regarded as the best governor to ever govern Benue State. Professor David Iornem once referred to him as a visionary leader ahead of his time. Buhari jailed Aku and most of the other Governors, setting up military tribunals to investigate their conduct while in office. Aku's health was broken by the harsh conditions in jail, and he died in 1988 shortly after being released.

The modern name derives from the ancient Cumbric Peartoc (as in the modern Welsh word perth, meaning "bush or thicket"). This was adopted into Scottish Gaelic as Peart(h)aig, giving modern Gaelic Pearraig or Pàrtaig (the latter is used on signs at Partick railway station). Saint Geminianus (also known as Saint Geminian, or Saint Gimignano) was a fourth-century deacon who became Bishop of Modena. He is mentioned in the year 390, when he sent a delegate named Aper to participate in a council called by Saint Ambrose in Milan. The dialogue itself, set in the 70s AD, follows the tradition of Cicero's speeches on philosophical and rhetorical arguments. It is set in the home of Curiatius Maternus, one of the speakers, to whom two leading lawyers of the day, Marcus Aper and Julius Secundus, have come to discuss a recent event; the fourth speaker, Lucius Vipstanus Messalla, arrives later. The castle is built into an overhang on a cliff on the north side of narrow point in the valley and the Landquart River. In addition to the castle, Fracstein included a rectory and the church of St. Aper east of the castle along the cliff and a tower and toll station along the river, with a wall that stretched from the cliff to the river across the valley. Only the palas of the castle still remains. It is about long and three stories tall.

While they patrolled inconspicuously in the palace and major buildings, the others were stationed in the towns surrounding Rome. Hunting became popular among young Romans starting from the third century BC. Hunting was seen as a way of fortifying character and exercising physical vigour. The boar was known as aper, feri sues or singularis on account of the animals supposedly solitary habits. According to Pliny the Elder, Fulvius Lippinus was the first Roman to create a reserve for wild boar, where he would breed them for hunting in his land in Tarquinia. In Greek mythology, the Erymanthian boar (Greek: ὁ Ἐρυμάνθιος κάπρος; Latin: aper Erymanthius) was a mythical creature that took the form of a "shaggy" "tameless" "boar" "of vast weight" "and foaming jaws". It was a Tegeaean, Maenalusian or Erymanthian boar that lived in the "glens of Lampeia" beside the "vast marsh of Erymanthus". It would sally from the "thick-wooded", "cypress-bearing" "heights of Erymanthus" to "harry the groves of Arcady" and "abuse the land of Psophis". The fourth labour of Heracles was to bring the Erymanthian boar alive to Eurystheus in Mycenae.

Religious men in the late antique period wrote letters (epistles) to each other forming a fertile social network of debate. Women, such as Therasia were also part of that network of discussion, and also included: Melania the Elder, Paulina the wife of Pammachius, Amanda the wife of Aper, Galla wife of Eucherius. Educated women had huge influence in the expansion of the Christian church, particularly in encouraging husbands to convert. Many ascetic communities were managed by "husband-and-wife" or "spiritual brother/sister" partnerships in the Late Antique period.

The first of the family known to have held public office at Rome was Publius Salvius Aper, praetorian prefect in 2 BC. About this time, the Salvii achieved equestrian rank, and thereafter held various positions in the Roman state for the next two centuries, before falling back into obscurity. The most illustrious of the Salvii was probably Marcus Salvius Otho, proclaimed emperor in AD 69.

At first, he was overwhelmed by the magnitude of the work he would have to do and fled. A man of God named Aper convinced him to return and devote himself to tending his flock. He became famous, among other things, for his extreme devotion. During his episcopate, which lasted about twelve years, he did not hesitate to devote himself to many manual tasks, sometimes in a field where he himself worked with a plough, sometimes at a building site where he carried stones even when the other workers were having their meals.

Whilst Therasia of Nola embraced religious life alongside Paulinus, Amanda and Aper's partnership was different. In their case, Aper took a religious life, whilst his wife Amanda took on the 'worldly responsibilities' so he could focus on the spiritual. By supporting her husband's spiritual life practically, Amanda was also living a holy life, being “a safe tower on a steady rock [she] would defy the tempests” (Epistula 44, Paulinus of Nola). The form this took was being the manager of both their estates, a position of power for women during this period.

She also had sole responsibility for the raising of their children. Amanda also provided "moral edification" to Aper and the religious purpose their marriage had moved to, through chasteness, and providing public support. Through her practicality Amanda enabled spiritual growth for her husband so he could become a religious leader - Paulinus wrote to them both in praise stating: "You have passed from your bodies into Christ's". Amanda is held up as an example of how valuable secular support for religious life was and how women in the Late Roman world had financial agency within marriage.

296 Numerian headed with his army for Rome, where a triumph was awaiting him, leaving the Persians astonished by the inexplicable retirement of a victorious army. However, Numerian's health was broken by the climate, and being unable to bear the heat of the sun, was borne on the march in a covered litter. Arrius Aper, the Praetorian prefect, assumed the conduct of affairs in his name, but his ambitious temper excited the suspicion of the troops. At Heraclea in Thrace they broke into the Imperial tent, and Numerian was found dead.

Steven H. Rutledge in his essay, "Delatores and the Tradition of Violence in Roman Oratory," provides a different point of view. He points out the violence in both the republican accusers and delatores speech under the Empire. On the other hand, Marcus Aper and Vipstanus Messalla had different opinions regarding oratory and its contemporary state in ancient Rome. But in the Dialogus de oratoribus of Tacitus, these two men are unanimous at one point in stating that Cassius Severus has had no contribution on the change in oratory from the days of Cicero.

After the death of Gallienus the Protectores seem to have evolved into a military unit. It was as commander of this body that the future Emperor Diocletian made his successful bid for the purple in 284 AD, challenging the Praetorian Prefect Aper whose power-base was the Praetorian Guard. However, membership of the corps still seems to have continued to be reserved for young soldiers marked out for rapid promotion. Constantine I was probably a member at the court of Galerius and Ammianus Marcellinus got his first step on the ladder of promotion in this capacity.

The scholar Michael MacKinnon writes that "Pork was generally considered the choicest of all the domestic meats consumed during Roman times, and it was ingested in a multitude of forms, from sausages to steaks, by rich and poor alike. No other animal had so many Latin names (e.g. sus, porcus, porco, aper) or was the ingredient in so many ancient recipes as outlined in the culinary manual of Apicius." Pigs have been found at almost every archaeological site in Roman Italy; they are described by Roman agricultural writers such as Cato and Varro, and in Pliny the Elder's Natural History.

It is the habitat for many deep sea fish and was first investigated in the summers of 1868 and 1869 by Charles Wyville Thomsons H.M.S. Porcupine expedition. Other notable fish include the basking shark, ocean sunfish, conger eel, hagfish, boarfish (Capros aper), large-eyed rabbitfish, lumpsucker, cuckoo wrasse, and the thresher shark.

The name "Horus Sa" always appears within the inscription Ḥwt-k3 Ḥrw-z3 ("House of the Ka of Horus Sa"), regularly found together with the names of Inykhnum and Ma'a-aper-Min, two high-ranking officials who served in the Ka-house. During the Early Dynastic Period of Egypt, the House of the Ka was a forerunner of the mortuary temple, a place where a cult to the Ka of a deceased ruler was performed. A further inscription, Ḥwt-k3 Ḥrw-z3, was found in the 1980s at Saqqara in the area of the tomb of Maya and very close to that of Meryra- Meryneith.

There is no way of knowing the specific circumstances that had led the Imperial Authorities to give Aper this posting, but the most likely reason was that the local situation required a man with military experience and that no suitable senatorial could be found. As in the case of Aper's earlier appointment in Poetovio, the prevailing disorder made this a problem that increasingly confronted the Imperial government and that, increasingly, the solution was to appoint an equestrian officer pro temp. By 283 it had been possible to find a senator able/willing to do the job in Pannonia Inferior. He took to politics in 1979 at the age of 28 under the tutelage of his political mentor – the first Governor of Benue State, Apollos Aper Aku. In 1983, he contested and won elections as a member in the Benue State House of Assembly under the platform of the then ruling National People's Party (NPN) where he was the House Committee Chairman on Finance and Appropriations. His job as a lawmaker was interrupted after three months when the military on 31 December 1983 seized power and suspended all political activities, a situation which made him took appointment at the Benue Cement Company (BCC). During the 1998 political transition of General Abdulsalami Abubakar, Mku ran as a favourite for the office of the Governor of Benue State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) and came second in the primaries, despite being the most popular candidate in the 1999 General Elections.

The traditional etymology is from the verb aperire, "to open", in allusion to its being the season when trees and flowers begin to "open", which is supported by comparison with the modern Greek use of άνοιξη (ánixi) (opening) for spring.
