Manchester scored early on a goal from Cristiano Ronaldo, but Milan answered back through a brace from Kaká, ensuring a 1–2 lead at half-time.

After several early failed drives in the opening quarter, Ole Miss became the first team to score on Alabama in the first quarter, as well as the first to have a lead against the Crimson Tide. However, the Crimson Tide answered back on their next drive with a touchdown, giving Alabama a 7–3 lead to end the first quarter. Ole Miss had limited offense in the second quarter as the Tide defense held a shutout for the remainder of the half. However, the Tide offense scored 17 points with a 2-yard rush touchdown, a 41-yard field goal, and a 30-yard touchdown pass. Alabama led the Rebels 24–3 at halftime.

After his training in Japan, Bluming received a letter from the Netherlands in which Schutte asked him to come back and teach at the old dojo and the Amateurs Association for a year on contract. Bluming went back to teach his old friends, make some new ones, and participate in the 1961 World Judo Championships in Paris in December. However, around this time he entered in a public enmity with Anton Geesink, who badmouthed Bluming in the press but refused several times to meet him on the tatami. Bluming answered back, claiming that Geesink was unworthy of his accomplishments and that Blumin himself was going to "bend him over like a folding chair" when they fought.

The Ottawa Braves of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference began the game winning the conference two of the last three seasons and three consecutive post-season appearances. When the game got under way, Baker scored first with a 12-yard field goal by Steven Stewart with 8:13 left in the first quarter, but not after losing starting quarterback Jake Morse to injury for the remainder of the game. With 4:45 left in the first, Ottawa answered back with a touchdown and kicked the extra point to make the score 7-3\. One more field goal by each team put the score 10-6 at halftime.

The Rams were the first to score, with a 1-yard run by fullback Dick Hoerner in the second quarter. The Browns answered back with an NFL Championship record 52-yard field goal by Lou Groza. They later took the lead with a 17-yard touchdown pass from Otto Graham to Dub Jones, and the Browns led at halftime, 10–7. In the third quarter, Ram Larry Brink landed a hard tackle on Graham, causing him to fumble the ball, which Andy Robustelli picked up on the Cleveland 24 and returned it to the two-yard-line. On third down from the one, "Deacon" Dan Towler ran the ball in for a touchdown to give the Rams a 14–10 lead.

Both teams struck in the 4th inning, putting 1 run on the board each. SK went ahead 3-1 in the 6th, as young 3rd baseman Choi Jeong hit a 2 run home run on the first pitch of reliever Lee Jae-woo. Doosan answered back with a solo home run from relief catcher Choi Seung-hwan in the 7th, but SK held onto their 1-run lead to close the game up and take a 2-1 lead in the series. Doosan very nearly came back in the 9th inning, as closer Chong Tae-hyon loaded the bases with 1 out, but Kim Hyun-soo hit into a double-play, allowing SK to take the win and giving Chong the save.

The camp was being held in preparation for the 7-a-side Football Ciutat de Barcelona in June of that year. At the camp, he played in a pair of friendlies against England with his team losing both games 2-1 and 3–2. Hensley scored a goal in the second game that made the game 2 - 2 before England answered back. He was part of the United States team that participated in the 2014 Americas Cup. Hensley scored his team's second goal in the bronze medal match against Canada on the way to the team's 3 - 0 victory. Hensley was the 2015 U.S. Soccer's Young Disabled Player of the Year, winning the award the first time he was nominated.

Rays unable to finish off Red Sox Game 6 began well for the Rays, with B.J. Upton continuing his postseason emergence with a solo home run in the 1st inning and giving the Rays the first lead of the night. The Red Sox returned that with a solo home run by Kevin Youkilis, leveling the score at 1–1. Youkilis gave the Red Sox the lead in the 3rd inning by grounding out, but scoring Dustin Pedroia from third base. In the 5th inning, Jason Bartlett hit his second home run of the entire season, another solo shot which tied the game at 2–2. Again, Boston quickly answered back, with a solo home run by captain Jason Varitek, his first base hit of the ALCS, Boston now having a 3–2 lead.

Kingston answered back with a clothesline, a series of suplexes and two Backfists to the Future, after which he covered Quackenbush and scored the win to become the first ever Chikara Grand Champion. Following the match Oliver Whybrow, the brother of the deceased Alex Whybrow, better known as Larry Sweeney, and Amy, a close friend of Alex's, entered the ring to present Kingston with the Grand Championship belt. Kingston, who was trained at the Chikara Wrestle Factory with Whybrow and who had referred to him as his best friend, appeared emotional as he received the belt, while the crowd chanted for Sweeney. Kingston then got on a microphone and proceeded to challenge wrestlers from WWE and TNA, including John Cena, CM Punk, Triple H and A.J. Styles, before claiming that no one can touch Chikara.

Casters: Anders Blume & Semmler VP started off strong against Liquid with a 6-2 lead, but Liquid went on a 7-round streak and closed the half at 9-6, shutting down VP in the closing rounds. VP answered back with the pistol and anti-economy rounds to tie the score at 9-9. Liquid soon regained the lead at 12-11 but would not get another round after that and VP claimed the first seed of the group 16-12. Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev and Nicholas "nitr0" Cannella had 27 kills and 24 kills, respectively, but their teammates struggled, especially Hiko with just 11 kills Snax and Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas had 23 kills and VP captain Filip "NEO" Kubski had 20 to overwhelm Liquid in the last few rounds.

The Kings finally answered back in game four with a 7–4 win. Game five in Boston saw a game where the Kings were badly out-shot, but in the words of Boston goalie Gerry Cheevers, "Vachon did everything but stand on his head to make great save after great save." The Kings ended up winning 3–1. Game six at home saw the Kings fall behind 3–0 only to tie the game in the third period, but the comeback would end on a sour note as Kings defenseman Dave Hutchison went to clear the puck on a Boston power play but broke his stick on the ice and turned the puck over; and Boston scored to win the game 4–3 and the series four games to two.

The Rams answered back when Van Brocklin connected with halfback Volney "Skeet" Quinlan for a 67-yard touchdown, pulling the Rams to within 3 points, 10–7, and giving the large crowd hopes of an upset. But late in the second period, Van Brocklin threw his third interception of the half; defensive back Tom James, who had been beaten on the Rams' Tom Fears' title-winning touchdown on the same field four years earlier, grabbed the errant pass and took the ball back to midfield with time running out. The next play turned a close game into a rout; Otto Graham found Dante Lavelli with a 50-yard touchdown pass along the sideline and the Rams, who moments earlier were driving to take the lead, went to the locker room down 17–7.

Cliff Floyd added an RBI double, followed by a Dioner Navarro RBI single in the 4th inning put the Rays ahead by 4 runs. Paul Konerko put the White Sox on the board with a solo home run in the 4th inning, but was answered in the 5th inning by a Carlos Peña single that scored one run, giving the Rays a 5–1 lead. Jermaine Dye had a solo home run in the 6th inning, but once again the Rays answered back with another RBI single by Peña in the 7th inning. Grant Balfour came in to close the game and struck out Ken Griffey, Jr. to end the game, and in their first playoff series in franchise history, the Rays took the series three games to one, and advanced to the American League Championship Series.

The Oilers led 4-1 at one point in the first period, but due to penalty trouble and undisciplined play, the Kings answered back with four consecutive goals, three of which came on the power play, and would never trail the rest of the game. After the Oilers managed to tie the game 8-8 early in the third, a costly turnover by Oiler defenseman Charlie Huddy led to a rebound goal that bounced off the leg of Charlie Simmer as he was being pushed into the boards. This goal with just 5:02 left in the third put Los Angeles in the lead for good, and the 10-8 win for the Kings in front of a stunned crowd at Northlands Coliseum would be cemented by an empty net goal by Bernie Nicholls. The 18 goals is still an NHL record for most goals scored in a Stanley Cup Playoff game.

The Oklahoma Sooners line up for the ill-fated onside kick in the third quarter. Oklahoma came back in the second half early with a field goal, followed by a goal line touchdown run by Chris Brown. The Sooners went for a 2-point conversion after the touchdown, but Bradford's pass was incomplete, leaving the score at 20-15. The Mountaineers answered back with a 17-yard run by Noel Devine for the touchdown to put the Mountaineers up 27–15. The Mountaineers scored again to end the third quarter, this time on a 30-yard reverse run by Darius Reynaud, to put the Mountaineers up 34–15 going into the fourth quarter. The Sooners scored early again, off of a Bradford pass to Quentin Chaney, but yet again failed a 2-point conversion attempt. West Virginia continued to roll however, as White hooked up with receiver Tito Gonzales for a 79-yard touchdown pass to put the Mountaineers up 41-21.

The drive was highlighted by a 55-yard completion from Alouettes' quarterback Anthony Calvillo to Jamel Richardson. Sandro DeAngelis answered back in the second quarter with a 44-yard field goal to put the Calgary Stampeders back on even terms at 3-3. However, the Montreal Alouettes responded when Montreal linebacker, Reggie Hunt intercepted a Henry Burris pass, giving the Alouettes the ball near midfield. The Alouettes offence drove the ball deep into Calgary territory before running back, Avon Cobourne scored the game's first touchdown in the second quarter on a 16-yard run. Then, special teams standout Larry Taylor gave the Alouettes great field position again with a 42-yard punt return. Duval again stepped in and made good on his 19-yard attempt to extend the Montreal lead to 13–3. With momentum on the home team's side, the Calgary Stampeders responded late in the first half when Henry Burris threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Brett Ralph, cutting the Montreal lead to 13-10 heading into halftime and taking momentum away from Montreal. In the second half of the game, it was all Calgary Stampeders.

After finishing the 2008 season with a dismal 4–8 record (including 3–5 in the conference), the Bobcats were able to make a comeback, finishing this season 9–3 with a 7–1 record in the conference. In the preseason media poll, the Bobcats were selected fourth in their division, receiving only 116 votes, in comparison to Buffalo, who was selected to win their division, earning 155 points. Along with the Chippewas, the Bobcats began their season with a loss, theirs coming 16–23 in the hands of UConn. However, they were able to win their next two out-of-conference games. In a contest against North Texas, the Bobcats were able come back to a 20–20 tie at the end of regulation. In the first overtime, both teams managed to score field goals, putting the game at 23–23 before the second overtime. In the second overtime, North Texas was able to score first on a 7-yard Cam Montgomery touchdown. Ohio answered back on a 15-yard pass from Theo Scott, however instead of a tradition extra point attempt, Ohio went for two points, once again a pass from Scott to wide receiver Taylor Price to seal the victory.
