Thomas Crawfurd of Cartsburn, 4th Baron of Cartsburn, invited Robert Burns to stay at his country estate at Cartsburn. Burns himself writes of Thomas Crawfurd of Cartsburn's "ingenious, friendly, and elegant epistle". In his Preface to the Memoirs of Sir Ewen Cameron of Lochiel, Chief of the Clan Cameron, James Macknight describes Thomas as "a person of superior literary attainments", who "collected a considerable library". Thomas Macknight Crawfurd of Cartsburn and Lauriston Castle, 8th Baron of Cartsburn was credited with a number of ameliorations to the grounds of Lauriston Castle, a property which he acquired in 1871.

Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes - a medieval castle in the town of Szczecinek, for the Pomeranian Dukes. The southern wing of the castle was built in the early fourteenth century, in the location of a former Slavic gord. Due to reconstructions in the sixteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries the castle has not kept its original characteristics. Formerly, the castle was located on an island in the Trzesiecko Lake, however after the lowering of the water (two land ameliorations had been made in the town in 1780 to 1784 and 1866 to 1868) the castle was located on a peninsula.

He obtained a captaincy on 12 March 1838 and was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in the 1838 Coronation Honours.
