Omnium was retired to Saint-Alary's Haras de Saint Pair du Mont breeding farm at Le Cadran in Calvados, Normandy where he proved to be an important sire.
She made rapid progress in the closing stages without ever looking likely to win, finishing third behind Mrs McArdy and Freeze The Secret. On her return to France she was moved up in distance and finished third to Madelia in the Prix Saint-Alary on 22 May. She raced in England for the third time when she contested the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot in June but ran poorly to finish fourth behind Orchestration. She was subsequently revealed to have been in season at the time of the race.

Apart from Tamarisk, he sired the winners of over 1,000 races, including Oasis Dream, Desert Prince, Sheikh Albadou and Cape Cross, the sire of Sea the Stars. Tamarisk's dam Sine Labe was unraced but came from a good family, being a half sister of the Prix Saint-Alary winner Treble and a close relative of the multiple Group One winning racemare Triptych.
In October, Petrushka was sent to France for the Prix de l'Opéra at Longchamp. Although the opposition in the Group One race did not appear to be as strong as at York, the distance of 2000m was short of Petrushka's best and an unfavourable draw did not help her chances. Murtagh predictably held the filly up before moving her to the wide outside to challenge in the straight. Petrushka produced a sustained run to take the lead inside the final 200m and win by three quarters of a length from the Prix Saint-Alary winner Reve d'Oscar.
He also evaluated the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's India AIDS Initiative for which his project received the Avahan Recognition Award. On her first appearance of the season the filly contested the 197th running of the 1000 Guineas over the Rowley Mile at Newmarket Racecourse on 2 May and started at odds of 12/1. After racing down the centre of the wide course she weakened and was eased down by Dettori to finish sixteenth of the seventeen runners. She kept on strongly in the closing stages and won by half a length from Colour Chart with Moon Cactus a further half a length back in third place. After an inquiry by the racecourse stewards Colour Chart was disqualified for hampering the fourth-placed finisher Air de Rien.

His research in the early 1990s indicated that amoxycillin was an appropriate treatment for genital infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis in pregnant women. He compared amoxicillin and erythromycin in a double blinded and randomized study. The results from the experiment led to the inclusion of amoxicillin as one of the recommended treatments for Chlamydia trachomatis as whereas cure rates were similar in both groups when treatment was completed, there were more women stopping their treatment with erythromycin because of side effects. From 1996 to 2003, Alary led the Omega Cohort Study on HIV infection in men who have sex with men (MSM) in Montreal.
Sarafina did not race as a two-year-old and made her debut in a maiden race over 1600 metres at Chantilly Racecourse on 3 May 2010. Starting the 6/4 favourite she took the lead 200 metres from the finish and pulled clear of her seventeen opponents to win in "impressive" style by six lengths. Three weeks later the filly was stepped up sharply in class for the Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary over 2000 metres at Longchamp Racecourse in which she was partnered by Gerald Mosse. The French Demarcation line was the boundary line marking the division of Metropolitan France into the territory occupied and administered by the German Army (Zone occupée) in the northern and western part of France and the Zone libre (Free zone) in the south during World War II. It was created by the Armistice of 22 June 1940 after the fall of France in May 1940. The path of the demarcation line was specified in the Articles of the Armistice. It was also called the green line because it was marked green on the joint map produced at the Armistice Convention.Éric Alary, The line of demarcation: 1940-1944, éd.

During his post-doctoral fellowship at Institute of Tropical Medicine from 1991 till 1992, Alary performed an epidemiological study on HIV infection in European female sex workers (FSWs) and presented population data to show that the use of petroleum-based lubricants was associated with a higher prevalence of HIV infection. His research outcomes led to the reinforcement of prevention programs aimed at FSWs in Europe regarding the promotion of water-based lubricants. During his Fellowship, he also conducted research on the STI-HIV interaction and the low and middle-income countries (LMICs). His research indicated that other STDs increase the risk of HIV sexual transmission, and that HIV incidence can be decreased by controlling the STDs.
Ridden by John Reid she was one of very few runners able to stay in contention with the strong pace set by Leap Lively. She eventually finished second, seven lengths behind Blue Wind, but ten lengths clear of the other runners. Madam Gay was still without a win in seven starts when she was sent to France to contest the Group 1 Prix de Diane (French Oaks) over 2100 metres at Chantilly Racecourse eight days later. In the Irish Oaks at the Curragh on 11 July the filly started the 9/2 second choice in the betting behind the Henry Cecil-trained Yashmak who had finished fourth in the Epsom Oaks before winning the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot. The other nine runners included the French-trained Brilliance (winner of the Prix Saint-Alary), Strawberry Roan (runner-up in the Irish 1,000 Guineas) and Etoile (fifth in the Epsom Oaks). She bucked exiting the starting stalls and raced at the rear of the field before beginning to make progress in the straight.
The following year at York he also won the Lonsdale Cup on Montaly, trained by Andrew Balding. Also in 2017, he won two Group races on Havana Grey - the National Stakes at Sandown and the Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. His most famous connection, however, is with the Karl Burke trained Laurens who was runner up in the 2018 1,000 Guineas, before winning two French Group Ones - the Prix Saint-Alary and Prix de Diane. However, after being thrown from a horse in the parade ring at Newcastle, he fractured his heel and ankle, and missed several weeks of the season during which Laurens won two late season Group Ones under Tudhope.
The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe was first run on Sunday 3 October 1920. The inaugural running was won by Comrade, a three-year-old colt owned by Evremond de Saint-Alary. The winner's prize was 150,000 francs. In 1935, the event secured state funding by the means of a lottery, which awarded prizes according to the race result and the drawing of lots. The system was first used in 1936, and it continued until 1938. The "Arc" was cancelled twice during World War II, in 1939 and 1940. It was run at Le Tremblay with a distance of 2,300 metres in 1943 and 1944. Government funding of the race resumed in 1949, with money obtained through the Loterie Nationale.
In French racing, horses in the same ownership are usually "coupled" and treated as a single entry for betting purposes. The favourite for the race was the five-year-old mare Allez France, winner of the race in 1974. The other leading French contenders included the three-year-olds Ivanjica, (winner of the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches and Prix Vermeille) and Green Dancer (Observer Gold Cup, Poule d'Essai des Poulains), who were coupled in the betting as both were owned by Jacques Wertheimer and trained by Alec Head. Nelson Bunker Hunt was represented by the multiple Group One winner Dahlia and the three-year-old filly Nobiliary, the winner of the Prix Saint Alary and runner-up in the Epsom Derby.
Alary's research about HIV prevention and intervention in the sex work environment in Benin and other West African countries, contributed to the understanding of the central role played by FSWs, their clients and other male sexual partners in the spread of HIV in most developing countries. In early 2000s, Alary conducted a research in Benin, about the management of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV prevention in men at high risk. He studied the level of effectiveness of outreach methodology used in contacting sexual partners of FSWs in order to prevent HIV or STDs. His research contributed in convincing the global HIV community about the importance of HIV prevention programming in the sex work environment for maximum impact on the overall HIV epidemic.
Lester Piggott took over from John Matthias as Mrs Penny's jockey when the filly was sent to France and moved up in distance to contest the Prix de Diane over 2100 metres at Chantilly Racecourse. She started at odds of 8.2/1 against twelve opponents which included the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches winner Aryenne and the Prix Saint-Alary winner Paranete. She took the lead in the straight and held off the sustained challenge of Aryenne to win by a short neck, becoming the first British-trained winner of the race since Highclere in 1974. Mrs Penny was then aimed at Britain's most prestigious all-aged race, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot Racecourse in July.
Vereva made her racecourse debut in a minor race over 2000 metres on soft ground at Chantilly Racecourse on 30 April in which she was ridden by Dominique Boeuf and won by a length from Street Lina. Mosse took over the ride when the filly contested the Prix de la Seine on 25 May 1997 at Longchamp Racecourse and came home three lengths clear of her stablemate Tashiriya. In the Prix de Diane over 2100 metres at Chantilly Vereva was coupled in the betting with her stablemate Darashandeh and started the 2.7/1 second favourite behind the Prix Saint-Alary winner Brilliance. The other nine runners included Always Loyal (Poule d'Essai des Pouliches), Queen Maud (Prix Vanteaux), Mousse Glacee (Prix des Réservoirs) and Ryafan.
On her first run as a three-year-old Sagawara was stepped up in class for the Group 3 Prix Vanteaux at Longchamp on 29 April and started the 5/2 joint-favourite. Racing on heavy ground she kept on well in the straight but was a beaten a neck into second by Trois Lunes. Four weeks later at the same track the filly started the 9/4 second favourite in an eight-runner field for the Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary over 2000 metres. The undefeated La Peinture headed the betting while the best of the others appeared to be Rjwa (third in the Prix Penelope): with no previous Group race winners, the field appeared substandard for a top level event.
On 4 October Covert Love was sent to France for the Prix de l'Opéra over 2000 metres at Longchamp Racecourse and started the 4/1 joint-favourite alongside her fellow British raider Jazzi Top (Prix de la Nonette). The other eleven runners included the Group 1 winners Queen's Jewel (Prix Saint-Alary), We Are (winner of the race in 2014), Star of Seville, Diamondsandrubies (Pretty Polly Stakes) and Odeliz (Prix Jean Romanet). Covert Love took the lead soon after the start and maintained her advantage into the straight where Jazzi Top emerged as her only serious challenger. Jazzi Top took the lead in the last 200 metres but Covert Love rallied "tenaciously" to regain the advantage and win by a head.
She started a 25/1 outsider but exceeded expectations as she came from far back in the field to finish second behind Treve despite hanging left in the straight. The unplaced runners included Silasol (Prix Marcel Boussac, Prix Saint-Alary), Esoterique and Flotilla (Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, Poule d'Essai des Pouliches). Chicquita was then sent to Ireland and moved up in distance for the Irish Oaks over one and a half miles at the Curragh Racecourse on 20 July, with the ride going to the experienced local jockey Johnny Murtagh. The Ribblesdale Stakes winner Riposte (trained by the widow of the recently deceased Henry Cecil) started favourite ahead of The Oaks winner Talent with Chicquita the 9/2 third choice in the betting.
An individual who prefers a certain payoff strictly smaller than $10 over a bet that pays $20 if the color of a ball drawn from urn A is guessed correctly and $0 otherwise is said to be risk averse but nothing can be said about her preferences over ambiguity. On the other hand, an individual who strictly prefers that same bet if the ball is drawn from urn A over the case where the ball is drawn from urn B is said to be ambiguity averse but not necessarily risk averse. A real world consequence of increased ambiguity aversion is the increased demand for insurance because the general public are averse to the unknown events that will affect their lives and property (Alary, Treich, and Gollier 2010).
Vazira is a bay mare with no white markings bred in France by her owner, Aga Khan IV. She was sent into training with Alain de Royer-Dupré in France and was ridden in all but one of her races by Christophe Soumillon. She was from the first crop of foals sired by Sea the Stars who won the 2000 Guineas, Epsom Derby and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in 2009. His other major winners have included Harzand, Taghrooda, Stradivarius and Sea The Moon. Vazira's dam Vadaza showed good racing form, winning one race and being placed twice at Listed level before becoming a very successful broodmare whose other foals included Vadapolina (Prix de Psyché) and Vadawina (Prix Saint-Alary).
Sarafina is a bay mare with a faint white star bred in France by her owner, Aga Khan IV. She was sent into training with Alain de Royer-Dupré in France and was ridden in all but two of her races by Christophe Lemaire. She was probably the best horse sired by Refuse To Bend, who won the 2000 Guineas, Queen Anne Stakes and Eclipse Stakes but was not a conspicuous success as a breeding stallion. Sarafina's dam Sanariya showed no racing ability, failing to win in five starts but did better as a broodmare, producing several other winners including the Prix Saint-Alary runner-up Sanaya and the Group 3 winner Sandagiyr. Her grand-dam Santalina was a half- sister to the Grand Prix de Paris winner Sumayr.
Valanour began his second campaign in the Group 2 Prix d'Harcourt over 2000 metres at Longchamp on 7 April and was made the 2.9/1 third choice in the betting behind Gunboat Diplomacy (Prix Noailles) and Marildo (Prix Ganay) in a six-runner field which also included Housamix and Carling (Prix de Diane).
