The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is an initiative of the Australian Federal Government, managed by the Department of Social Services (Australia). The target group of the CVS is isolated residents of aged care homes whose quality of life would be improved by the friendship and companionship achieved by having volunteers visit them on a one-to-one basis in aged care facilities. This interactive robot will be located within Whittlesea Library and be available to local aged care facilities and socially isolated residents. Funding for this project came from the Whittlesea Bowls Club who donated $5,200 and Whittlesea Community House which donated an iPad air. In February 2017, the Australian Government introduced Increasing Choice in Home Care reforms. These reforms are designed to give older people more choice and control over their home care. Recipients of government funding to cover the cost of aged care services are now able to choose their preferred provider of in home aged care services. They can also choose to change their provider at any time. Once a person’s application for funding is successful, they will be allocated their funding based on how long they have been waiting and also on their individual care needs and personal circumstances.

In 1985, Patterson was elected as her local party branch delegate to the Liberal Party's State Council. The Royal Australian Air Force Association runs the Vivian Bullwinkel Lodge aged care facility in the northern suburbs of Perth. Monash University (Melbourne) and Eastern Health (Melbourne) have named the chair in palliative care nursing after her. Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE redeveloped the old nurses quarters on its Fairfield campus in 2010 for residential student accommodation.

The nurses became known as the "Angels in Blue" because of their blue uniforms. The first purpose-built government home for the aged, named "Eventide", was opened at Charters Towers in 1929, providing accommodation for 150 inmates. Unlike the Dunwich asylum, which housed inmates in large dormitories, Charters Towers inmates were provided with "single and double huts, each having its own small garden plot". In the 21st century, with more and more lay people involved in management, the sisters began collaborating with Sisters of Mercy Hospitals in Melbourne and Sydney. Jointly the group operates four public hospitals; seven private hospitals and 10 aged care facilities. The Sisters of Mercy arrived in Auckland in 1850 and were the first order of religious sisters to come to New Zealand; they began work in health care and education.

John West was an Australian poet and the author of numerous books of poetry published in Australia between 1994 and his death in 2009. He died just before his Selected Poems was finalised for publication. Several hundred of his individual poems were published in his lifetime, mostly in Australia but also in the UK. Tennant Creek had a town council headed by a mayor until 1 July 2008, when it became part of the Barkly Region. The main Aboriginal body within the town is the Julalikari Council Aboriginal Corporation which plays a major role in providing training and employment services for the Aboriginal people in Tennant Creek. It has developed a construction capacity and provides contract services to the Town Council such as recycling. Julalikari also provides community services within the township such as Homemakers, aged care, and the night patrol.

Heritage Kamesburgh Gardens in Brighton, Victoria Named for the Australian war veterans once housed there, ANZAC is Star of the Sea's Year 9 campus. Located in the Kamesburgh Gardens on North Road, Brighton, the forty- room mansion was built in 1874 and presented as a gift to the Repatriation Department in 1919. It served for a time as ANZAC Hostel before the aged care home relocated to an updated facility in 1996. The mansion was then leased by the college, and opened as a Year 9 campus in 1997.

RSL Care grew from Queensland War Veterans Homes, which opened its first home for veterans in Brisbane, Queensland in 1938. It brought with it a strong asset base in Queensland and New South Wales and significant experience in the operation of residential communities. Volunteers make pizza in the community wood fired pizza oven. The town has a range of local businesses including hardware store, cafe, hotel, chemist, hairdresser, supermarket and petrol station, and is surrounded by rural land used mainly for cropping and cattle and sheep grazing, although some horse studs are present. The town's Bush Nursing Centre provides residential aged care for up to 64 people.

Opie established twice weekly interactive music workshops at Melbourne's immigration detention centres that have been running since 2014. He has also created custom music demonstrations for members from Vision Australia. Opie was also involved in Elisabeth Lowry’s Music2Go Program which involved performing in schools, aged care facilities, hospitals and community outreach programs in the Bay Area of San Francisco. Like many central Logan suburbs Loganlea is experiencing significant population growth. Between 2006 and 2011 the population grew by 16.6%. At the the suburb had a population rate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of 5.8%, more than double the national average of 2.5%. A greater proportion of families are composed of one parent at 28.1%, almost double the national rate of 15.9%.

Prior to being elected, he was Executive Officer to the Lutheran Church of Australia, overseeing 85 schools, 45 aged care facilities and 60 early learning centres. Ruthenberg was elected to the Legislative Assembly in the 2012 landslide, winning a usually safe Labor seat with a 17% swing. The first major project completed by Youngcare was a building of 17 individual apartments for people with significant physical disabilities. This project was in response to the number of people with disability living in residential aged care due to the lack of alternative housing options. With community and corporate support, the Youngcare Wesley Mission Queensland Apartments in Sinnamon Park, Queensland opened its doors in 2007. Along with housing young people with high care needs, the aim of the apartments was to provide a replicable model of care as an alternative to institutionalised housing.

The Youngcare At Home Care Grants program began in 2009 and provides grants between $2000 and $10,000 for young people with high care needs that are deemed to be at high risk of entering an aged care facility. Youngcare has facilitated over $5,000,000 of funding, with successful applications for items such as essential home modifications, equipment and in-home support. By 2013 the Youngcare At Home Care Grants program had grown to include application rounds for Queensland, New South Wales, Tasmania, Northern Territory, South Australia and Victorian Residents.

United Voice was a large Australian trade union, with over 130,000 members. United Voice members worked in a wide range of occupations including hospitality, childcare, teachers' aides, aged care, property services (cleaning, security, maintenance etc.), health, manufacturing, ambulance workers (in some states) and community services. The union was established in 1992 as the Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Union (LHMU) (the "Missos") following the amalgamation of the Federated Miscellaneous Workers' Union of Australia (FMWU) and Federated Liquor and Allied Industries Employees' Union of Australia (LTU). Upon leaving Gordonvale, Bond gave a joint five-year lease to the Hobart Walking Club and the Launceston Walking Club. The clubs were to be responsible for the maintenance of the homestead buildings. After Gordonvale, Bond conducted a fruit stall at Austins Ferry (a suburb of Hobart), and died at St. John’s Park, an aged-care facility, on 1 May 1962, aged 70.

William John McCann (25 January 1879 - 1 December 1961) was an Australian politician, member of the Victorian Legislative Council. Born in Kerang to farmer David James and Isabella McCurdy, both Irish-born, McCann became a dairy farmer at Lake Charm, where he helped to establish an aged care home to which he later retired. In 1918 he was organising secretary of the People's Party, and he was a Victorian Farmers Union councillor from 1922 to 1927, serving as chief president from 1924 to 1925 and founding president of the Primary Producers Union in 1926. On 9 January 1926 he married Edith Emily Taylor.

Mueller College is a coeducational independent Christian school located in Rothwell, a suburb within the Moreton Bay Region in Queensland, Australia. The college was established in 1990 as a ministry of the Mueller Community Church, which is a member church of Christian Community Churches of Australia that also operates an Early Learning Centre, Bible College, Retirement Village and Aged Care Facility. The Mueller community is named in reference to George Müller, a Christian evangelist who established 117 schools and offered Christian education to more than 120,000 students. During her time as head of Medicare, Briggs worked alongside Finn Pratt and Carolyn Hogg to integrate Medicare Australia, the Department of Human Services, Centrelink and CRS Australia into one department for better service design and delivery outcomes for Australians. Australian Medicines Handbook (AMH) is a peer-reviewed medicines prescribing guide for Australian health professionals. The handbook is available in paper and digital formats and is supplemented by the AMH Aged Care Companion and the AMH Children's Dosing Companion. The AMH was first published in May 1998 driven by the need for a local, independent and up-to-date source of drug information to foster rational prescribing. Reflecting contemporary Australian clinical practice and adhering to the principles of the quality use of medicines, it is generally considered the Australian equivalent to the British National Formulary on which it was partly modelled.

With the greater need to improve the delivery of healthcare services to the elderly, MOH invited Dr Samuel Charles Scherer, an expert on step-down care, to share his experience with the healthcare community in Singapore under the Manpower Development Programme in March 2004. Dr Scherer is a geriatrician from Melbourne, Australia. He is the chairman of the Policy and Planning Committee of the Australian Society for Geriatric Medicine. In collaboration with the Association of Community Aged Care Physicians and with the funding provided by MOH, St Luke's became the first community hospital to host Dr Scherer.

Grey Power (or Greypower) was an Australian political party and lobby group, first registered in 1983. At the federal elections of 1984 and 1987 it ran candidates, but on both occasions these candidates (who included former Liberal cabinet minister Bill Wentworth) did poorly. The Human Rights (Sexual Conduct) Act 1994 provided that sexual conduct involving only consenting adults (18 years or over) acting in private would not be subject to arbitrary interference by law enforcement. This applies to any law of the Commonwealth, State or Territory. As of August 2013, the Australian federal Commonwealth Government under law does provide protections for "marital or relationship status, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or intersex status" at the federal level at various levels that cover aged care, employment, health services, goods and services, accommodation, etc. in the Human Rights Commission Act 1981 (Commonwealth legislation).

Wednesday, 25 July 2018 The club was formed by the Queensland Community Care Network to highlight one of the unique aspects of ageing – the large number of people aged 100 years or over. During the QCCN’s work in aged care facilities in Queensland, large numbers of people aged 100 years and older were identified, many with few peers to reminisce with. These rare and unique people were largely isolated in age care facilities, frequently with no social activities, despite having good general health. Many of them felt, because of their isolation, that they were alone as centenarians.

In the 1930s with increasing numbers of young women wishing to enter the order, an extensive new Novitiate building was built in 1936-7 designed by Scott, Green & Scott. A building known as Marian House on the Chepstow Street side was built for extra accommodation. By the 1970s, the number of young women wishing to enter the Order had declined dramatically. In 1982 the Little Sisters of the Poor proposed selling Aston Lodge to developer Beinda P/L for $3.1m to raise funds to rebuild and upgrade their aged care facilities nearby at Mount St. Joseph's.

On 14 August 2016, Premier of Queensland, Annastacia Palaszczuk announced that Australian Unity had won the tender for the redevelopment, and there were expected to be 700 construction jobs and 1000 ongoing jobs on the site. In 1968, the administration of the reserve was transferred to the Davenport Community Council. The children’s home closed in 1995 when its superintendent retired. Land use within Davenport is residential, however planning regulations do permit the establishment of facilities for recreation, "small scale light industry" and community use which are consistent with the historical character of the community living within the suburb. Davenport includes the Wami Kata Old Folks Home, an aged care facility, and the former Umeewarra Mission building which as of 2014 was scheduled for demolition despite calls for its retention by former occupants.

In July 1933, the "Law for the Prevention of Hereditarily Diseased Offspring" prescribed compulsory sterilisation for people with conditions thought to be hereditary, such as schizophrenia, epilepsy, Huntington's chorea and "imbecility". Sterilisation was also legalised for chronic alcoholism and other forms of social deviance. The law was administered by the Interior Ministry under Wilhelm Frick through special Hereditary Health Courts (), which examined the inmates of nursing homes, asylums, prisons, aged-care homes and special schools, to select those to be sterilised. It is estimated that 360,000 people were sterilised under this law between 1933 and 1939.

A books on wheels program was first established out of Rosanna Library in 1977 when volunteers delivered books to housebound people. In 1979 the service was expanded with the purchase of a van and employment of a library staff member to reach people who could not get to the library.Smaller than the Mobile library, the outreach vehicle service visits aged care accommodation and retirement homes where residents who would not otherwise be able to easily access a branch can choose their own materials and enjoy the social experience of a library visit. A new vehicle was launched in November 2005.

The dominating feature of Kanwal is the Wyong Rugby League Club to the northeast of the suburb. The Grove Street Pensioners' Cottages, constructed from 1953 to , are important in demonstrating the widespread movement to provide affordable housing for old aged pensioners in the 1940s-50s in Queensland. Pensioners' Cottages schemes, which were built by local authorities with the aid of a State Government subsidy offered from 1945, were an important social welfare initiative that allowed pensioners to lead independent lives in their local districts, and were an alternative to aged care homes and institutions.

Baptcare's work began when Strathalan Community opened in 1945 as Australia’s first Baptist home for elderly people. The Baptist Church bought the Strathalan homestead in 1944. The Victorian Baptist Women’s Association (VBWA) suggested that Strathalan become a home for the elderly. The VBWA raised 4,000 pounds over four years to re-open the homestead as Strathalan Home for the Elderly. In 1945, the first of Baptcare's aged care homes, Baptcare Strathalan Community opened. In 1959, Baptcare Karana Community was constructed. In 1960, Baptcare Northaven Community was opened. In 1966, the Hedley Sutton Community Hostel opened and the nursing home was developed later with the proceeds of a legacy.

Prior to 1 July 2008, Urapuntja Aboriginal Corporation was the local government authority responsible for service delivery to the people who live on the Angarapa and Alyawarra Land Trusts. On this date, there was an amalgamation of councils into a new shire framework, but the Corporation remains the peak representative body for residents. provision of services to Utopia is split between several bodies: Barkly Regional Council ("Shire" until 2014) has responsibility for aged care and night patrol services, while the neighbouring Central Desert Regional Council has responsibility for road maintenance, and Urapuntja has responsibility for administering mail and Centrelink. This arrangement has led to some confusion on occasion.

In the 1970s, the scope of local government services expanded to encompass the provision of nursing homes and other forms of aged care. During the late 1980s, and early 1990s a bi-partisan reform process led to the Local Government Act 1995, which amongst other changes, established for the first time a clear separation of responsibility between elected councillors and local government administration. Other key changes included a significant reduction in the number of decisions requiring ministerial approval which allowed for streamlined decision-making and greater local government autonomy. In 2017 the McGowan government initiated a review process to reform the Local Government Act 1995.

The role of the Department of Health has continued to expand and further federal responsibility for health was authorised by the passage, at referendum, of a constitutional amendment in 1946. From 1987 until the establishment of the current department in 2013, the department controlled by the minister had various different names – Department of Community Services and Health (1987–1991), Department of Health, Housing and Community Services (1991–1993), Department of Health, Housing, Local Government and Community Services (1993), Department of Human Services and Health (1993–1996), Department of Health and Family Services (1996–1998), Department of Health and Aged Care (1998–2001), and Department of Health and Ageing (2001–2013).

Prior to the opening of Fiona Stanley Hospital, Fremantle Hospital and Health Service provided 575 beds across all campuses, which included Rottnest Island Nursing Post and Kayeela Hospital in East Fremantle. Facilities included 24-hour acute care, emergency department, a paediatric ward, a 66-bed psychiatric and psychogeriatric service. The Hyperbaric Medicine Unit has provided support services for divers in all of Western Australia and clinical services to residents mainly from the immediate area for over 20 years. With the opening of Fiona Stanley Hospital, Fremantle Hospital has become a 300-bed hospital focused on services such as mental health, aged care, secondary rehabilitation, palliative care, and planned surgeries.

From 22 July in Victoria, announced on 19 July, visitations in aged care/ health care settings will be restricted to carers only and a limit of one hour per day. In late July, billionaire businessman Clive Palmer claimed that the closing of the borders by the Western Australian government was unconstitutional and he launched a legal challenge in the Federal Court. In response the Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan labelled Palmer an enemy of the state. Palmer also claimed that the border closure would "destroy the lives of hundreds of thousands of people for decades" and compared the death toll of COVID-19 with that of road accidents and influenza.

While still a Member of Parliament in 1961 he authored a book with brief biographies of all leaders of the Federal Parliamentary Labor Party until that time.Norman Makin (1961), Federal Labour Leaders, Union Printing, Sydney, New South Wales He retired at the 1963 election, following an amendment to Labor Party rules that introduced a mandatory retirement age of seventy, though Makin unsuccessfully appealed the decision to the federal executive. He remained active in Labor affairs for many years following his retirement. He died in 1982 at the age of 93, at Glenelg, where he had spent his last years in a Uniting Church aged care home, and was cremated.

During the outbreak of COVID-19 in Victoria, a facility managed by Heritage Care Pty Ltd; the Epping Gardens Aged Care home, experienced a sudden surge in cases. Families of the residents of the home publicly accused the company of serious mismanagement in attempting to stop the virus outbreak. While the Epping Gardens facility had passed accreditation audits in the years before the outbreak, the regulator found that the facility was operating in breach of requirements relating to risks, clinical care and infection. It was reported by Guardian Australia, that the federal department of health had ordered control of the company's Epping Gardens facility be handed to Austin Health.

In June 2020, Sullivan was announced on the Queen's Birthday Honours list to receive the honour of Officer of the Order of Australia, general division. Promoting his official title to Francis Sullivan AO. Sullivan received the honour for his numerous services to the community throughout his career "particularly through social justice and legislative reform initiatives, and to health and aged care". Speaking to Australian newspaper, the Guardian, Sullivan spoke on his honours, stating the acknowledgment was "wonderful", furthering to say “if my efforts have been recognised here, what’s really happening is the plight of those I’ve worked for, and their value in society, is now being recognised”.

Darling House is a heritage-listed seniors living property and former residence located at 8-12 Trinity Avenue, in the inner city Sydney suburb of Millers Point in the City of Sydney local government area of New South Wales, Australia. The property is owned by Dr Shane Moran through his luxury seniors living and aged care group Provectus Care Pty Ltd. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. The Georgian-style Old Colonial sandstone building incorporates parts of an original to dwelling house, the existing sandstone house was constructed in 1842 under the ownership of Joseph Farris.

Anglicans have played a prominent role in welfare and education since Colonial times, when First Fleet chaplain Richard Johnson was credited by one convict as "the physician both of soul and body" during the famine of 1790 and was charged with general supervision of schools. Today the church remains a significant provider of social welfare with organisations working in education, health, missionary work, social welfare and communications. Welfare organisations include Anglicare and Samaritans. The Anglicare network comprises 9000 volunteers beyond paid staff, who assisted some 940,000 Australians in 2016 in areas such as emergency relief, aged care, family support and assistance for the homeless.

Libraries and archives faced different situations, from maintaining a full service with some restrictions, through providing minimal services, to complete closure. The Institute of Museum and Library Services noted that the risk of coronavirus transmission from paper was low, according to medical journal publications. Therefore, the International Federation of Library Associations noted that some libraries had imposed a wait period before handling returned books, while others have made it clear that no-one is expected to return borrowed books until things return to normal. Librarians for whom providing continued services became even more important during the pandemic included those managing medical libraries, in prisons, and in aged care facilities.

Catholic Health Australia is the largest non-government provider grouping of health, community and aged care services, representing about 10% of the health sector. In 1968, nuns or priests were the chief executives of 770 of America's 796 Catholic hospitals. By 2011, they presided over 8 of 636 hospitals. As with schooling, women have played a vital role in running and staffing Christian care institutions in Methodist hospitals, deaconesses who trained as nurses staffed the hospitals, and in Catholic hospitals, through religious institutes like the Sisters of Mercy, Little Sisters of the Poor and Sisters of St. Mary and teaching and nursing have been seen as "women's vocations".

Bibliotherapy has been studied by Jennie Bolitho (2011) in relationship to libraries, health and social connection for the elderly. Bolitho set up a pilot reading program where she read the text aloud to a group of participants at a local aged care hostel. (She described "being read to as part of the nurturing experience".) Her evaluation at the end of the 12-week program described all responses as positive and participants commented that they "look forward to the group as it made them think for themselves and gave them something to think about aside from their ailments and the monotony of the day" (p. 90).

Newly appointed ministers included Ken Wyatt , as the first Indigenous Australian to serve as a minister for an Australian Government department, appointed to the role of Minister for Indigenous Health and as Minister for Aged Care. Greg Hunt was appointed to Ley's former portfolios in Health and Sport; Arthur Sinodinos was appointed to Hunt's former portfolio as Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science. Scott Ryan was given additional responsibilities as the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Cabinet.

Gavin Wayne Jennings (born 18 April 1957) is an Australian politician. He was a Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Council from 1999 to 2020, representing Melbourne Province (1999–2006) and then the South Eastern Metropolitan Region (2006–2020) . He was Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council and Special Minister of State in the Andrews Ministry from 2014 to 2020. He previously served as Cabinet Secretary (1999–2002), Minister for Aged Care (2002–2006), Minister for Aboriginal Affairs (2006–2007), Minister for Community Services (2006–2007), Minister for Environment and Climate Change (2007–2010) and Minister for Innovation (2007–2010) in the Bracks Ministry and Brumby Ministry.

Near the end of her life, she became a resident at the Wanarn Aged Care Facility, which offers a weekly painting program in conjunction with the Warakurna Arts Centre. Her style at this time became looser and more abstract. In addition to work produced through this program, Bates also painted on the materials around her at the facility, including pieces of cardboard and pillowcases. Bates' works, including these later works, were displayed posthumously as part of Songlines: Tracking the Seven Sisters, a collaborative exhibition between senior custodians of Aboriginal lands in the Central and Western deserts and the National Museum of Australia, among other partners.

The union officially came into existence in 1991 with the amalgamation of two existing unions, the Hospital Employees' Federation (HEF) and The Health and Research Employees Association (HREA). But its origins date back to the early years of the twentieth century when organisations of hospital employees were first formed in Australia. Over the years the membership of the unions that eventually came together to form the HSU has been based around a nucleus of hospital staff and psychiatric care staff. But it has gone much further to include ambulance, aged care, community health, disability sector, hospital scientists, mental health and drug and alcohol workers.

Kenneth George Wyatt (born 4 August 1952) is an Australian politician who has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2010, representing the Division of Hasluck for the Liberal Party. He is the first Indigenous Australian elected to the House of Representatives, the first to serve as a government minister, and the first appointed to cabinet. Wyatt was appointed Minister for Aged Care and Minister for Indigenous Health in the Turnbull Government in January 2017, after previously serving as an assistant minister since September 2015. He was elevated to cabinet in May 2019 as Minister for Indigenous Australians in the Morrison Government.

The National Aquatics Center, Beijing PTW Architects is an Australian architecture firm founded in Sydney in 1889. In 2013, PTW was acquired by Chinese architecture and engineering consulting firm China Construction Design International (CCDI). PTW has become a highly diversified architectural practice with its design leaders specialized in a broad range of sectors including residential/mixed use, infrastructure, aged care, the arts (education/culture) and sport. Rylstone's newly renovated and extended small rural hospital known as a Multipurpose Service provides emergency services, acute and subacute medical inpatient services and low and high care residential aged care services. HealthOne Rylstone is collocated with the Multipurpose Service providing General Practitioner services. In 1975, the Whitlam government introduced Medicare (then named "Medibank"), and the roles of voluntary health insurance funds changed dramatically. As in Britain with the introduction of universal health insurance in the 1940s, voluntary health insurance fund membership dropped to a fraction of former numbers, and the friendly societies had to reduce the size of their businesses and concentrate on other forms of services for their members. As in Britain, these were generally investment services, insurance services, and provision of aged care facilities (colloquially known as "Old Folks Homes"). When the Grand Lodge of Victoria registered "IOOF" as its trading name, the Grand Lodge of South Australia changed its trading name to IOOF(SA).

The Royal Melbourne Hospital provides acute tertiary referral services at its main site on Grattan Street between Flemington Road and Royal Parade and ancillary services such as aged care, rehabilitation, ambulatory care and residential and community services through its Royal Park site. It has one of the largest Emergency Departments in Victoria and is, with the Alfred Hospital, one of Victoria's two major trauma referral centres. The emergency facilities include: 2 trauma bays, 7 resuscitation cubicles, 25 general cubical beds and 17 short-stay beds. There is also a helipad on top of the hospital so that urgent cases that need to be airlifted from regional areas can be transferred to the Royal Melbourne.

Jerilderie is an irrigated farming centre, the area around Jerilderie produces a quarter of all tomatoes grown in Australia, as well as being a prime Merino stud region. Additionally Jerilderie has a diverse number of crops such as rice, wheat, canola, mung and soybeans, onions, liquorice, grapes and a number of cattle farms. The town has two primary schools, Jerilderie Public School and Jerilderie Catholic School, an 18-hole golf course, three pubs, and a hospital which was the first in regional Australia to operate with solar power. This hospital has now been rebuilt as a multi purpose medical centre that incorporates an emergency room, aged care beds and a palliative care bed.

In 1991 he fell ill and failed to secure his resignation from Pope John Paul II. The pope instead decided to appoint a coadjutor bishop who would have the right of succession in case Otunga either died or otherwise. In 1992 he suffered a stroke and sent a second resignation letter which was accepted in 1997; after he retired he moved into an aged care home and lost his power to vote in papal conclaves after he had turned 80. Otunga died on 6 September 2003 at 6:45am of cardiac arrest in the intensive care unit of the Mater Misericordiae Hospital in Nairobi. Otunga had been hospitalized there for about two months.

When Notaras retired he restored his grandfather's house in the village of Frilinianika, on the island of Kythera, Greece. He also became involved with the Kytherian community there, helping to fund the purchase of equipment needed by the local hospital and aged care facility. From 2004 to 2008, Hatfield Dodds was a member of the ACT Community Inclusion Board, serving as Chair from 2006–2008. From 2005 to 2009 she was President of the Australian Council of Social Service, the peak advocacy body representing people affected by poverty and inequality. From 2012-13 she was Chair of the Australian Social Inclusion Board, the main advisory body to Government on ways to achieve better outcomes for the most disadvantaged people in our community. Hatfield Dodds has contributed to numerous government advisory bodies, including the Aged Care Sector Committee, the National Place Based Advisory Group and the National Youth Advisory and Consultative Forum, which advised the then Federal Minister for Children and Youth Affairs.

On 8 March, an 82-year-old man died, becoming the second death at the Dorothy Henderson Lodge aged-care facility and the third death in the country. On 9 March, the principal of Carey Baptist Grammar confirmed that one of the teachers at their Kew campus was infected with the virus. This teacher, a woman in her 50s, was confirmed to be the partner of an individual who was on the same flight from the US that the GP of Toorak Clinic was on.

The Rural Health Education Foundation has produced several hundred health-themed educational television programs covering a broad range of subjects including Aged Care, Obstetrics, Infection Control, Child and Adolescent Health, Continence, Mental Health, Oncology, Nursing, and health issues for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People. Foundation-produced programs are designed to address the unique education and information needs of medical practitioners, health workers and communities in rural and remote Australia. The programs, which are all accredited by relevant professional organisations, feature presentations from medical and health professionals, usually including at least one rural health professional, who are leaders in their disciplines, and allow for input from the target audience on material presented.

In practice, those facing discrimination on the basis of gender identity have faced difficulties in pursuing anti-discrimination claims – in its 2013 annual report, the Anti-Discrimination Commission of Queensland noted that a single gender identity claim – 0.2% of its work – had been upheld. Trans men and women potentially face years waiting for their claims to be resolved, with little support available for people outside south-east Queensland and Cairns. Australian federal Commonwealth Government under law does outlaw discrimination based on "marital or relationship status, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or intersex status" at the federal level at various levels that cover aged care, employment, health services, goods and services, accommodation, etc. since August 2013.

Former South Australian mental health minister Leesa Vlahos was severely criticised by the ICAC Commissioner. His report painted a picture of life for some of the most vulnerable members of society who were “poorly cared for, forgotten and ignored”. Oakden closed in 2017 after it was revealed that a patient with Parkinson’s disease was beaten by another resident at the Oakden nursing home at least thirteen times between December 2016 and March 2017 and did not receive recorded medical care, despite that the matter had been reported to the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency. On 25 July 2016, ABC News 7.30 television current affairs program broadcast hidden video camera evidence of a September 2015 incident.

There has been criticism over the underutilisation of these facilities following the redevelopment works, however the New South Wales Government maintains that this is because the hospital has been designed to accommodate regional growth. In addition to obstetrics, specialist care provided by the hospital includes a mental health unit, an overnight stay aged care unit, diagnostic services such as pathology and medical imaging as well as a pharmacy. Dental and allied health services can also be accessed at Queanbeyan District Hospital, with many providers at the hospital operating in conjunction with the ACT Government Health Directorate due to the hospital's close proximity to the Australian Capital Territory. A Renal Dialysis Unit was established and opened in January 2014.

In 2003 an annual tour of the Melbourne Cup trophy was initiated to provide communities across Australia and New Zealand with an opportunity to view the Cup trophy and highlight the contribution the Melbourne Cup has made to Australia's social, sporting and racing culture. Each year, communities in Australia and New Zealand apply for the cup to tour their community and the tour also takes in cities around the world as part of the Victoria Racing Club's strategy to promote the Melbourne Cup and the Melbourne Cup Carnival internationally. The Tour has visited schools and aged-care and hospital facilities, and participated in community events and celebrations including race days across Australia and New Zealand.

In April 1954, fundraising began for a new Mater Hospital. The 50 bed hospital was opened in Fulham Road, Pimlico in 1962. Another wing was added in 1967, and further extensions in 1979 and 1983. In the meantime the sisters also ventured into aged care with the establishment of Villa Vincent in the suburb of Gulliver in 1964. Villa McAuley retirement accommodation was established nearby in 1979 and was extended in 1980 and 1982. Bishop Ryan retired in 1967 having overseen dramatic changes in the Townsville Diocese since 1938, including a doubling of the population of Catholics, which was reflected in the number of priests, brothers (from 15 to 38) and nuns (from 143 to 211) in the community.

The Health Services Union (HSU) was officially formed in 1991 by the amalgamation of the Hospital Employees' Federation (HEF) and the Health and Research Employees Association (HREA). The specialist trade union had around members working in all areas of healthcare across Australia as at 2013. The membership of the union includes doctors, nurses and allied health professionals such as physiotherapists and radiographers, ambulance officers, clerical and administrative staff, managers and support staff in the health and aged care sectors. The HSUeast branch, covering New South Wales, Victoria, ant the Australian Capital Territory, was controversially formed in 2010, following years of factional fighting between leadership teams from the HSU New South Wales, HSU Victorian No. 1 and No. 3 branches.

Bywaters received the Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) — Australia's highest honour — in the 2005 Queen's Birthday Honours for "service to the international community, during an unsafe and dangerous period in Uganda, through the provision of humanitarian aid and nursing care to improve the lives of the sick, poor and dispossessed and to the Salvation Army". At the time of the award, she was living in retirement at Seaforth Gardens, a Salvation Army aged care facility in Gosnells, Western Australia. Born in Victoria in 1919, Bywaters died in Armadale, Western Australia on 19 June 2009. An obituary by Torrance Mendez in the West Australian carried the headline, "Amin feared Salvo lioness".

Richard Ross Sinclair Tracey (18 August 1948 – 11 October 2019) was an Australian military and civil judge and barrister, who was Judge Advocate General of the Australian Defence Force from 2007 to 2014, and a judge of the Federal Court of Australia from 2006 to 2018. Following his retirement from the Federal Court, Tracey was appointed as a commissioner of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, however he died of cancer before the commission provided its interim report. In the 2014 Australia Day Honours Tracey was made a Member of the Order of Australia for "exceptional service in the field of military law, as a consultant for the Director of Army Legal Services, and as Judge Advocate General of the Australian Defence Force".

In Australia, the tool has been successfully implemented at Maurice Zefferet Home in Perth and it is also being utilized in the work and research of doctoral student Julie Gross McAdam, founder of MacArt: McAdam aged care art recreation therapy, in Melbourne. The topic of creative expression and dementia is gaining interest in conferences, workshops, art exhibits and in research in the academic world. Presently, there is no known cure for this condition and the Society urges the medical model of dementia care to be reinforced with approaches that promote social and creative well-being. The work of the Society is of interest to researchers in gerontology and dementia, to the arts community, to creative expression facilitators, medical doctors, formal and informal caregivers.

Modbury Hospital is a hospital that provides inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to a population of nearly 200,000 people living primarily in Adelaide's north-eastern suburbs. Modbury Hospital opened in 1973, with the Education Centre built in 1979, followed by the Woodleigh House mental health unit in 1980. In 1995, Modbury Hospital management was transferred from public sector management to the private organisation Healthscope, and was later returned to public sector management on 1 July 2007. Under South Australia's Health Care Plan 2007–2016, Modbury Hospital has become one of three general hospitals in metropolitan Adelaide, providing services to its local community with an emphasis on general medicine and general surgery, and a specific focus on rehabilitation, aged care and palliative care services.

Ryan was promoted to Shadow Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Opposition in 2003, and rose rapidly after the 2003 state election, becoming Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party in the Legislative Council, Shadow Minister for Community Services and Shadow Minister for Disability. As the Shadow Minister for Disability he advocated to have young people with disabilities removed from aged care nursing homes. The campaign bore fruit in 2006 when the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) agreed to a $244 million five-year program to move hundreds of people aged under 50 out of nursing homes across Australia. He successfully campaigned against savage budget cuts to day training programs for school leavers with disability that were introduced by the NSW Government in July 2004.

On 10 March, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews warned Victorians to expect "extreme measures" in the wake of the federal government updating the travel advice for Italy. These could include cancelling major sporting events, requiring entire economic sectors to work from home, and calling recently retired health professionals to return to work. A state of emergency was declared on 16 March, which was extended on 12 April, with existing directions remaining in place including staying at home, restrictions on particular activities, detention, restrictions on airports and cruise ships, aged care, hospitals and isolation for people diagnosed with COVID-19. It was extended further on 11 May, and again on 19 July to 16 August. On 22 March, the school holiday was brought forward from 27 to 24 March.

An old man at a nursing home in Norway Elderly care, or simply eldercare (also known in parts of the English speaking world as aged care), is the fulfillment of the special needs and requirements that are unique to senior citizens. This broad term encompasses such services as assisted living, adult day care, long term care, nursing homes (often referred to as residential care), hospice care, and home care. Because of the wide variety of elderly care found nationally, as well as differentiating cultural perspectives on elderly citizens, it cannot be limited to any one practice. For example, many countries in Asia use government-established elderly care quite infrequently, preferring the traditional methods of being cared for by younger generations of family members.

Liverpool Hospital is located in the south-western suburbs of Liverpool, New South Wales, Australia and is a 50-minute drive from the Sydney CBD. It is the largest hospital in New South Wales and one of the leading trauma centres in Australia. It has a maximum capacity of 960 beds, 23 operating rooms and 60 critical care beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care. As at 20 September 2012, the Buckland Convalescent Hospital is of a high level of significance due to its close association with a notable philanthropist in Sir Thomas Buckland. It is also of heritage value by virtue of its design as a seemingly seminal example of a totally "private" roomed establishment, and for its adaptation of the "Georgian"/Colonial Revival style to institutional buildings. Staff of Heritage Care at the Epping Gardens Aged Care home have been publicly accused of abusing residents. It was reported in The Age that a family member had claimed a staff member had yelled at her 95 year old mother so badly, that she had retreated to her room and 'vomited violently'. The Age also reported that a deceased resident had been left to lie on the floor for 26 hours, while mishandling phone calls from a funeral director arranged by the resident's son; while the son was only offered a 'half-hearted' apology by staff. The son also described a situation where his family members would often find their mother in a state of unwash and undress, when visiting.

In August 2020, it was reported by Sydney Morning Herald's Michael Bachelard; that the company also runs a home in Sydney, Heritage Botany, that scored zero out of eight in a September 2019 quality assessment audit by the Commonwealth Aged Care Safety and Quality Commission. The 'scathing' audit had found that nutrition, hydration, injuries, falls, and pains were inadequate; food was poor and culturally inappropriate, and residents who were unable to feed themselves were neglected. The audit had found that staff had been cut, leaving residents uncared for. Heritage Care was allowed by the regulator to continue operating the facility, yet by January 2020 the company had still failed to comply with one of the eight standards within the audit.

Slim Dusty, Australian Senior of the Year Maggie Beer, Senior Australian of the Year 2010 The Senior Australian of the Year award initially had no connection with the NADC. When the United Nations declared 1999 the 'International Year of Older Persons,' the Minister for Aged Care Bronwyn Bishop approached National Seniors Australia with a plan to increase the prominence of the award. The Department of Health and Ageing took over responsibility for the program and Prime Minister John Howard presented the award to veteran country music star Slim Dusty in October 1999. Bishop arranged for the NADC to administer the program on behalf of the Department of Health and Ageing, but the award continued to be presented in October, with no discernible link to Australia Day.

The company introduced a new policy, called "Respecting Night Time for Residents - Etiquette Guidelines" in 2018 so staff no longer look in on residents overnight. The company says this is "a very positive initiative as part of our dementia strategy," and is "based on clinical best practice and have been developed in response to resident and family feedback". The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation say it is "obviously just a mechanism to cope with a reduction in staff". The company lost about a sixth of its value in September 2018 when the government announced a public inquiry into misconduct in the aged care sector and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation produced a two-part documentary focusing on alleged neglect and abuse of older people.

Arguably the most significant reform in the transgender space was a November 2017 ruling from the Family Court of Australia which allowed transgender children to access cross-sex hormone treatment (known as "stage 2 treatment") without court approval needing to be sought, in cases where there is no dispute between a child, their parents, and their treating doctors, hormone treatment can be prescribed without court permission. In the relationships recognition space, federal law would be critical. The Federal Parliament's reforms of de facto recognition in 2008/09, spearheaded by the Rudd Government, would amend 85 pieces of Commonwealth legislation to allow same-sex couples equal access to a range of areas including taxation, superannuation, health, social security, aged care and child support, immigration, citizenship and veterans' affairs.

In introducing federal discrimination protections for LGBTI people, the Gillard Government promised that religious bodies would be exempt, unless they were aged care providers receiving Commonwealth funding. The main exemptions are in sections 37 and 38 of the Sex Discrimination Act 1984, which include the ability for religious educational institutions to discriminate against LGBT students and teachers "in good faith in order to avoid injury to the religious susceptibilities of adherents of that religion". In 2017, Perth teacher Craig Campbell was dismissed from a Baptist school after he revealed his sexuality on social media. The Greens promised to repeal religious exemptions to LGBT anti-discrimination protections before the 2016 election, while in January 2018 the Labor Party announced it had no plans to act upon the issue.

There has been a strong push towards mutual recognition of qualifications, with VET or Higher Education courses recognised towards other courses (and for those under 21 towards an SSCE). A process of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) has been implemented to allow competencies gained through work and other experience to be assessed and recognised. For instance, a Diploma of Agriculture might be recognised as the equivalent of the first year of the Bachelor of Agricultural Science degree; a unit of Letter Writing in a Certificate IV of Writing might be recognised as a unit towards a Bachelor of Business degree; experience in aged care might be recognised towards a Certificate in Community Services. All students doing nationally recognised training need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

The incorporation of the oral health therapist into the residential aged care facility, as part of a multidisciplinary approach with nursing staff, is suggested to demonstrate an effective and efficient use of health resources. The oral health therapist can provide individualized oral hygiene care plans, routine dental care, and help provide education, preventative programmes and ongoing support and motivation to nursing staff. Having the oral health therapist implement and manage an oral health training programme that is then executed by a registered nurse, who is the oral health leader, and who has received oral health education by the oral health therapist. They are then able to carry out and enforce the programme whilst the oral health therapist is not there.

Lota House has an important association for the local community with the establishment and development of European settlement in the Manly-Lota district: the name of the suburb is derived from Lota House, a number of the nearby streets have been named after Lota House occupants, and the place features prominently in the published history of the area. The place has a special association with the life or work of a particular person, group or organisation of importance in Queensland's history. Lota House is significant also for its association from 1860 until 1960 with prominent Queensland pastoralist families, the William Duckett White family and the Graham Douglas Mylne family. Since 1960 it has had a strong association with the work of the Anglican Church in aged-care.

Much change has occurred to Kawaree's landscape since 1987's construction of the Kawaree Retirement Village and subsequent expansion of that with an Aged Care Facility. Kawaree, at the time the Colmans lived there, had open horse paddocks, chicken runs, vegetable gardens and fruit orchards. Open space was a vital part of the Kawaree way of life, providing as it did for the transport and dietary needs of its occupants. The town today includes a K-12 central school, police station, two churches, the Grace Munro Centre (a state of the art aged care facility), an agricultural supplies store, garage, hotel, sporting club and golf course, rural transaction centre (with Centrelink access), community technology centre, general store/bottle shop/newsagent/gift shop and a takeaway store that is open seven days a week. Today, Port Elliot is a quiet township with two hotels, three churches, six coffee shops, no fast food chains, and is a popular holiday destination close enough to Adelaide for day trippers and even commuters. The continuing expansion of the Greater Adelaide metropolitan area together with ongoing improvements to the road links between the Fleurieu Peninsula and Adelaide has brought an influx of "seachange retirees", driving up house and land prices, and adversely affecting the ability of local young people and families to remain in the area. Employment prospects are largely limited to hospitality work, aged care and the building trades which continue to benefit from rapid growth in the region. In 2007, Port Elliot became the focus of unwanted media attention due to the murder of 15-year-old Carly Ryan at Lady Bay.

In 1990 Podger went on to hold the position of Deputy Secretary in charge of Acquisition and Logistics in the Department of Defence, where he stayed until 1993. In April 2005 Premier Rann and Health Minister Stevens opened six new operating theatres, a new Emergency Department, new medical imaging facilities and women's health consulting and treatment facilities. Key elements of the Stage B redevelopment, include a 50-bed, acute and aged care mental health facility, a Radiation Oncology unit, enhanced medical and palliative services, the establishment of an extended emergency care unit, day surgery and ambulatory services and the expansion of support services. In December 2018, a year after Australia legalized same- sex marriage, the former Liberal Attorney-General Phillip Ruddock released a report saying that he couldn't find much evidence that anyone's same-sex marriage had caused "actual material discrimination" against anyone who objected to same-sex marriage on religious grounds. Nonetheless, Australia is proceeding with legislation, led by Attorney-General Christian Porter, to prevent discrimination against religious people. Religious hospitals and aged care providers will be allowed to discriminate against LGBTQI employees, as the government announced in November 2019. In February 2019, Rachel Colvin was pressured to resign an English teaching position she'd held for ten years at Ballarat Christian College because the administration knew that she supported same-sex marriage, even though she offered to keep her beliefs private.

Independently from this application, Heritage Advisor Deborah Kemp (employed as a consultant by Benalla Rural City) assessed the site's historical significance as part of the Benalla Airport Redevelopment Plan, ahead of the World Gliding Championships to be held on the site in 2017, and found it to be of local, and most likely also state heritage significance. The Sisters of Mercy have provided education in the region since 1878, building many schools across the Townsville diocese including establishing the oldest operational high school for girls in St Patrick's. The chapel in the southern wing regularly received novices into the order, and the ritual celebrations at these events attended by the sisters' friends and families served to publicly acknowledge and promote the role of the Sisters of Mercy in Queensland in the upkeep of Catholic traditions. The sisters established the Mater Hospital in Townsville, as well as aged care facilities, to fulfil their mission of providing for the poor, the sick and the uneducated. The convent occupies a prominent position within the campus of St Patrick's College, Townsville, demonstrating the ongoing commitment of the Sisters of Mercy to their mission in Queensland.

Scott was best known for founding the truck organisation Scott's Transport in Mount Gambier, South Australia, which has since grown to be one of the biggest freight companies in Australia, rivalling Linfox. In 1988 Scott purchased local rival transport company K&S; Freighters and then listed it on the Australian Stock Exchange. He was President of the ANU's Postgraduate and Research Students' Association (1990–91); associate to High Court Justice Mary Gaudron (1995); Deputy Registrar of the High Court of Australia (1996–98); a senior executive in the Australian Attorney- General's Department (1998–2010); the first Australian Freedom of Information Commissioner (2010–14); a Senior Member of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (2015–17); and Principal Reviewer at CPM Reviews Pty Ltd (2018). He has been a member of the Council of Burgmann College, ANU since 1985.

On 24 April 1996, then Health Minister Kevin Prince announced an expansion of the old Wanneroo hospital into a health campus. The tender to operate the facility was won by HealthCare Australia while the facility would be built by John Holland. The agreement to operate would last for twenty years. The agreement would provide care for both public and private patients with the current 84-beds increase to 330-beds of which 70 would be private beds. It would provide for an upgraded emergency service, 25-bed psychiatric services, aged care restorative unit, improved surgical, medical and obstetric services, expanded intensive care and coronary care, a 26-bed day surgery and endoscopic unit and a 24-bed paediatric unit, day oncology, renal dialysis, St John Ambulance depot, a medical centre, community health centre and hydrotherapy pool.

Howard proposed a First Child Tax Refund, to support families with new-borns and increased funding for aged care and a Tough on Drugs programme to improve "education and law enforcement and rehabilitation" (but which would not adopt the Labor Party proposal for heroin injecting room safehouses). Following the Australian Human Rights Commission's report Same-Sex: Same Entitlements, and an audit of Commonwealth legislation, in 2009, the federal Rudd Government introduced several reforms designed to equalise treatment for same-sex couples and their families. The reforms took the form of two pieces of amending legislation, the Same-Sex Relationships (Equal Treatment in Commonwealth Laws-General Law Reform) Act 2008 and the Same-Sex Relationships (Equal Treatment in Commonwealth Laws-Superannuation) Act 2008. These laws amended 85 other existing federal laws to equalise the treatment of same-sex couples, and any children raised by those couples, in a range of areas including taxation, superannuation, health, social security, aged care and child support, immigration, citizenship and veterans' affairs. For instance, in relation to social security and general family law, same-sex couples were not previously recognised as a couple for social security or family assistance purposes.

Bipolar disorder is uncommon in older patients, with measured lifetime prevalence of 1% in over 60s and 12-month prevalence of 0.1 to 0.5% in people over 65. Despite this, it is overrepresented in psychiatric admissions, making up 4 to 8% of inpatient admission to aged care psychiatry units, and the incidence of mood disorders is increasing overall with the aging population. Depressive episodes more commonly present with sleep disturbance, fatigue, hopelessness about the future, slowed thinking, and poor concentration and memory; the last three symptoms are seen in what is known as pseudodementia. Clinical features also differ between those with late onset bipolar disorder and those who developed it early in life; the former group present with milder manic episodes, more prominent cognitive changes and have a background of worse psychosocial functioning, while the latter present more commonly with mixed affective episodes, and have a stronger family history of illness.

An outbreak in Victoria at a meatworks, later revealed to be Cedar Meats, was announced on 2 May with eight cases. By 8 May, the cluster of cases linked to Cedar Meats in Victoria was 71, consisting of at least 57 workers and 13 close contacts, including a nurse, aged care worker and high school student. The number had increased to 75 by 9 May, 88 by 13 May, and 90 by 14 May. Adelaide's Myer Centre food court closed due to the pandemic. On 9 May, two Victorian cases were announced to be related to McDonald's Fawkner. By 18 May, this had increased to 12 cases, and on that day it was revealed that a delivery driver had tested positive, prompting the closing for cleaning of 12 more McDonald's locations: Melton East, Laverton North, Yallambie, Taylors Lakes, Campbellfield, Sunbury, Hoppers Crossing, Riverdale Village, Sandown, Calder Highway Northbound/Outbound, Calder Highway Southbound/Inbound, and BP Rockbank Service Centre Outbound.

The privatisation of Commonwealth Bank of Australia was soundly justified at time as it operated in the private market, with competition from private banks who offered cheaper products to consumers. Australian economist, John Quiggin, reveals that despite the sensible rationale in privatising the Commonwealth Bank, it represents a net loss to the taxpayer. Profits in the company have grown which explains the CBA Chief Executive Officer's highest salary package of $16.2 million in 2010. Financial deregulation has improved some aspects of CBA's operations as it is projected to become Australia's leading digital bank, while raising fees, reducing services, and in recent years, unethical conduct in the sector, were revealed by the Banking Royal Commission. A report from the People’s Inquiry in 2017, reveals the overall experience of Australian privatisation has been largely negative, citing job losses, reduced services and rising prices in various sectors across aged care, prison systems, railway and social service.

Australian-born residents made up 74.7% of Busselton's population, followed by those born in England (7.7%), New Zealand (2.5%), South Africa (1.0%), Scotland (0.7%), and the Philippines (0.5%). English was the only language spoken at home by 88.4% of residents, with the next most common languages being German and Afrikaans (0.4%), Italian and Hazaragi (0.3%), and Tagalog (0.2%). The most common industry for employed people in Busselton was listed as "accommodation" at 4.1%, compared to the national average of 1.1%; others were "supermarket and grocery stores" (3.4%), aged care residential services (3.1%), "cafes and restaurants" (3.0%), and "primary education" (2.6%). As at June 2018 the estimated population of the Busselton statistical area was 27,584, having increased by 1.2% in the preceding 12 months.

The agency was first announced by Prime Minister Scott Morrison on the 26 May 2019 after the return of the Liberal-National Coalition to government at the 2019 Federal Election. Prime Minister Morrison announced a ministerial reshuffle and machinery of government changes which elevated Minister for Aged Care and Indigenous Health Wyatt into the Cabinet of Australia as the Minister for Indigenous Australians and the creation of the National Indigenous Australians Agency within the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, replacing the Department's Indigenous Affairs Group. The National Indigenous Australians Agency was listed in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette on the 29 May 2019 as the Order to Establish the National Indigenous Australians Agency as an Executive Agency under the Public Service Act 1999 to be formally established on the 1 July 2019. The inaugural Chief Executive Officer is retired Vice Chief of the Defence Force Ray Griggs, and Deputy CEO is Professor Ian Anderson PSM.

The township of Bacchus Marsh is serviced by the Djerriwarrh Health Services (Bacchus Marsh Hospital) formerly, Bacchus Marsh War Memorial Hospital, and several general practice medical centres, including Bacchus Marsh Medical Centre located opposite the hospital in Turner Street and The Elms Family Medical Centre located at the Bacchus Marsh Village Shopping Centre on Main Street near the Avenue of Honour. The Elms Family Medical Centre was established in 1994 and is actively involved in the teaching and mentoring of future general practitioners. Doctors from both practices provide comprehensive medical care to patients at the Bacchus Marsh Hospital, as well as at the local Providence Aged Care Hostel and Grant Lodge Nursing Home. Both clinics have affiliations with the Deakin University School of Medicine through the hosting of third year medical students as part of the Integrated Model of Medical Education in Rural Settings (IMMERSE) program, with The Elms first having a medical student in 2011 and the Bacchus Marsh Medical Centre in 2014.

Frank McGuire is Victoria's first Parliamentary Secretary for Medical Research and is also Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business and Innovation. Frank has driven Victoria's medical research strategy since December 2014 to lead Australia in a bigger and bolder fashion globally. He called for a partnership with America in President Barack Obama's ‘Moonshot’ quest to cure cancer, leading to US Vice President, Joe Biden's visit to Melbourne for the opening of the billion dollar jewel in Australia's medical research crown, the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre. Frank has paved the way for other international collaborations and assisted Health Minister, Jill Hennessy in developing Victoria's International Health Strategy, Partnering for a Healthy and Prosperous Future 2016–2020, and Victoria's Health and Medical Research Strategy, Healthier Lives, Stronger Economy 2016–20, designed to create economic benefit through global leadership in healthcare, health education, aged care and medical research while creating jobs and economic growth by boosting investment, industry development and exports.

A coroner will investigate a death where the identity of the deceased is not known; the death was violent or unnatural, such as accidents, falls, suicides or drug overdoses; the death happened in suspicious circumstances; a cause of death certificate has not been issued and is not likely to be issued; the death was a health care related death; the death occurred in care or custody (such as an aged care, correctional, mental health, or juvenile detention facility); or the death occurred as a result of the operations of Queensland Police. A coroner may decide to hold an inquest which has the powers of a court, compelling witnesses to give evidence before the Court, and in making findings can make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths. Cultural and family concerns are typically considered as part of any coronial investigation. Decisions made by the Coroners Court may be heard on appeal to the District Court of Queensland; and the Coroners Court has appellate jurisdiction where the investigating coroner declines a request for an inquest.

In March 1988, Persson resigned from the NSW Public Service in order to lead the federal housing policy review initiated by Minister for Housing and Aged Care, Peter Staples. However, his appointment came under criticism from the Federal Leader of the Opposition, Alexander Downer, who took issue with Persson's Labor background. Persson's review, which was completed by March 1989, rejected the idea raised by the Liberal opposition of an allocated housing allowance instead of specific public housing, and identified four major problems in the housing market: lack of appropriately zoned and serviced land, high interest rates, the declining availability of low-cost rental housing, and inadequate links between housing and support services for special needs people. In late 1989, when Frank Walker looked to transition to federal politics, Persson was recruited to work for Government of Queensland by Minister for Housing and Local Government Tom Burns as Director-General of the Department of Housing and Local Government, which had been created by the amalgamation of the Public Works Department and the Local Government Department.

Back in the Netherlands, he worked for the aged care home of Blaricum and for the Shell-laboratorium of Rijswijk (1969). After finishing a commission for Lisse (1970), he produced one of the most controversial of his pieces: the sculpture at the Spui 'Piramide' (1976). The pyramidal shape of the piece looked for providing the walker with a roof under which sit down and rest, but the aesthetic of the piece led to discontent in the neighbourhood and it was finally re-placed to the outskirts of the city (1987) to the Gaasperplaspark. More assignments succeeded (Gemeente, Amsterdam, 1972; Royal Building Service, Zuidwolde, 1974),'East Jesus County Revisited' next to the Ir. Otten bad in Eindhoven (1975), 'Septum, in gesprek met de vorigen' Stadswandelpark Eindhoven (1982),'Running Squares' for Rosmalen (1988). The fountain-like sculpture next to the Maas’ bridge in Heusden 'Maasbeeld' was finished in 1994, 'Tree of Learning'(1998) in front of the Carolus Borromeus College in Helmond and his last piece 'Donjon' (2002) you can find in Vlijmen (Heusden) in front of the Rabobank. The artist worked as well as lecturer in the Mollerinstituut in Tilburg (1976–1989), and became a member of the B.B.K. ’69 Amsterdam and of the Dutch Circle of Sculptors Amsterdam (1975–1981).

At its meeting of 20 January 2000, the Heritage Council provided its general terms of approval to an amended integrated development application. On 9 June 2000 delegated conditional approval was granted to the subsequent section 63 application. On 6 October 2000 delegated conditional approval was granted to a further section 63 application under the Heritage Act. Since 2006 one residential allotment facing Manor Road (known as Lot 2 in DP 1181742), outside the NSW State Heritage Register curtilage boundary, has been subdivided off the property.

The government in the south-east area of the state, consisting of three local councils, amounted to a single administration. In consequence, many residents of Victoria used to look across the border to Mount Gambier as their centre. Consequently, during the 1970s many elderly locals relocated to Victor Harbor and Moonta, both rural areas but with more resources available to cope with an ageing population. A 1976 study found that less than 10 per cent (around 160 people) of residents aged over 65 had lived in the area for less than 5 years, leading to a lack of specific aged-care facilities. According to the 2006 Census the population of the Mount Gambier census area was 24,905 people, making it the largest urban area in the state outside Adelaide, and the 50th largest urban area in Australia. Approximately 51.7% of the population were female, 84.9% were Australian born, over 91.5% of residents were Australian citizens and 1.6% were indigenous. The most popular industries for employment were Log Sawmilling and Timber Dressing (8%), School Education (4.8%) and Retail Trade (3.8%), while the unemployment rate is approx. 7%.
